Restoring the graphics was probably the single-most difficult modding project I've ever taken on, but I got to check off a bucket list item of restoring a Satellaview game!
Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets was restored similarly. Originally, the inside areas, including dungeons, were completely corrupted, so they guessed at what it would be like and redid it. Then recordings released, so the team could redo it 100% faithfully. The original fan-made dungeons are now used as a Master Quest mod, since they turned out to be harder than the official ones.

We have gotten quite a few questions on the music, and incorporating the new music from the original broadcasts. First off, thank you for your interest! The goal of BS F-Zero Deluxe was preservation and recreation of the rom data. The music used in the broadcasts was streamed over satellite. It was never part of the rom, and wouldn't be present even if the rom were found. That put it out of scope for this project. Instead, we took cues from BS F-Zero 2 Practice, which re-used 5 of the 10 songs from the original game. Forest and Metal Fort re-use the remaining 5 songs, so that each song is used once in the BS-1 and BS-2 Leagues. As soon as BS F-Zero Deluxe released, other members of the community started looking into an MSU-1 patch, which is awesome. Accurate preservation was just the first step. Improvement is now in the hands of all of the fans.

I played the mod today and it was an incredible experience. I'm so grateful for the dedication and hard work that the team has put in for the F-Zero community to recreate something that we all considered lost to time. Thank you.
That's awesome to see dedicated fans that preserve old video game content, and channels that do talk about it. People may not care about F-zero, but with F-zero 99 and this, it's a small win for the community, and I hope there's gonna be more.
Really cool and informative video about the lost BS Grand Prix 2 tracks! Crazy how we’ve had such talented creators remake the tracks from the ground up to play again! Interestingly enough, I’ve brought up to light on the community on Twitter that one of the secret tracks in F-Zero 99 brought back the same damage fields that are in Sand Storm I from BS GP 2 so I wouldn’t say that we’re out of the woods yet from getting the Ace League or Forest/Metal Fort back in F-Zero 99.
BS Grand Prix 2 has been available for years and I've enjoyed it thoroughly. I always knew of the five *other courses that were lost, Forest, Metal Fort, and the other. The video we got a few years back showing the tracks is incredible. I always wondered if, at the very least someone could recreate the courses. While unofficial, it'd be better than nothing. It's not just better than nothing - it's probably the definitive way to play F-Zero on SNES going forward. Having all of the original game's content included - and being able to use any vehicle on any track - is a massive bonus
Just amazing to see such a level of dedication, painstakingly recreating a game just from watching a grainy old VHS footage. Kudos to the fans for doing the hard work to preserve stuff, which game companies themselves just refuse to do.
Funny, I remember the commercial but of course had no idea who Paul Rudd was at the time. Apparently this was his acting debut. I remember being annoyed that they advertised A Link to the Past with a sneaky text disclaimer that it wasn't ready yet.

The awesomeness of fans should ALWAYS be rewarded. And Nintendo needs to get off of their collective butts to bring those games back to the world at large. I don't care if it's just a "Satellaview Collection" or a program that faithfully recreates the experience. Seriously, what is the deal with Nintendo? Anything they consider a flop just... Disappears. Virtual Boy, Satellaview, 64DD... No modern representation. Hell, I don't even think they're representing the Famicom Disk System as much as they could.
Zero racers (cancelled but finished virtual boy game), bs f zero gp 2 tracks in f-zero 99, AND the expansion kit for F-zero X? sign me up! though.... whats on the famicom disk system that hasn't been released or remade? I don't know I'm just curious.
@@brandonmatys Not sure, honestly. Just speculating based on some vague recollections which may or may not be linked to games for another Famicom accessory that allowed for 3D games. kudos to all those who made this mod possible, game companies may not care about their past, but we do and we do not want Gaming's past to become lost to the ether. for better or worse, what happened in the past was important to us. for them it was lost profits and something to be buried, nothing more and certainly nothing less.
I'm surprised to learn that a rom for BS2 has never been discovered. In fact, back in 1999 I used to play the pants of that very ROM, I believe, on an emulator of the time (ZSNES? Win98SE). I have downloaded and applied the IPS patch and will give BS2 a run to see if memory serves (which judging by the first stage, it does. I used to die a lot on those big flashing arrows) and if so, I'll check for files of that era on my backups. There could be a chance it might be intact. Feel free to correct me if that level existed in BS1, btw.
If you find it, go claim that 5K bounty. Because last I checked, all that was available for BS2 F-Zero 2 was Practice mode. No version involving those tracks has been found. And by "those tracks" I mean Metal Fort and Forest.

UNBELIEVABLE WORK!!!! Thank you SO MUCH from one F-ZERO super fan to another!!
Incredible effort, congratulations to anyone involved! Absolute retro gaming heroes the lot of them!
Not to mention that the Disk System AND the later Nintendo Power kiosks in Japan used rewritable media AND had some exclusives.
@@silversonic1 that's fair
The dedication from gaming fans is always admirable, will be funny if Nintendo ask to use the rom for switch online
So cool! I love what fan communities and modders are capable of. It's absolutely incredible to see.
kudos to all those who made this mod possible, game companies may not care about their past, but we do and we do not want Gaming's past to become lost to the ether. for better or worse, what happened in the past was important to us. for them it was lost profits and something to be buried, nothing more and certainly nothing less.
Just tried the patch and this works great! so damn cool! Works great on FXPAK Pro
Amazing feat to revive a game from VHS!
@@Teknanam dug up a 25y old laptop, was surprised it still booted into windows and that I remembered the password. That being said, it was formatted and found running win2k. Gotta dig up an equally old external drive. Money is great I m doing this for my sanity’s sake.
Reverse engineering a game back to life is just as interesting to me.
A small mistake in the presentation of the Satellaview: it does NOT connect the Super Famicom to the Internet. It connects the SFC to a one-way satellite broadcast that is completely different and independant from the Internet. There's no relationship to the Internet whatsoever.
Thank you. Hopefully they post a correction.
it would be crazy if nintendo redid the satellaview games on switch online some day
Makes me wonder if Nintendo will put the Satellaview courses in F-Zero 99 since we have yet to see a switch online release of them.
Nope.
@@ChiefMedicPururu Has Nintendo confirmed it themselves?
@@AA-tj7wt No. But they never acknowledge the device either.
Some tracks are on 99 now
@@cyburntwentytwelve2455 I know! I got excited when I've learned the news. Now we have to wait for the other tracks to release presumable after the mirror and classic version of Ace cup gets released.
F-Zero on Virtual Boy? No. No thanks. Red and black mode7 graphics is more than enough to induce a migraine.
...
Satellaview F-Zero? Now this I can get behind. I'm a huge fan of the Satellaview LoZ games, and I'm more than curious to know what other Satellaview titles there are...
You know Nintendo should really release a collection of all the Satellaview games. We've been doing this whole charade for decades at this point, just give us the damn games.
i can't thanks enough for the people that did this, it was a huge love work to preserve history, they deserve the best (y)
Really cool to see H4G on here, long time watcher of him and his mates stuff
using their TAS program to rebuild and visually reverse the game's courses is fucking cool.
It is so cool to see what awesome projects the archival community is committing to! I hope we fill that bounty someday
When I hear that Tony say them words I go ballistic on the like button.
Games are hard,
But I'm hard for games.
(❤ U Tony)
Wow. That is amazing. Fzero is a great racing game.
i’m just casually listening and all of the sudden i realize, this is hard4games!! what a collab!!
Nintendo is not gonna like this since they want you to remember stuff they want you to, but more F-Zero means more cool stuff. Keep up the good work.
Was not expecting to hear Tony from H4G as the VO for this episode, that caught me off guard!
Nice! Keep inviting Tony back
Though not the original program, it’s cool to have this in some form.
How did you know (gaming)? I am hungry for more F-Zero
It's been a while since I've heard Tony from Hard4Games dubbing on here, but it makes sense given his own preservation efforts. 😁👌
I want to thank everyone who's been a part of these projects and I think many fans have been waiting for years. Still I'm hoping there's a way to create own hacks or tracks with it.
And thanks again to all involved. 👍
