As a 51 year old father, I almost cry when I watched your video. I used to play with my son when he was basically 3-4 years old. I had the Sega CD and actually the 32X add-on too. You have brought me back to the early 90s and appreciate how this console actually paved the way for the DVD/Bluray based consoles. My daughter went the Nintendo way, and I taught her how to play, she gave up gaming for years and his boyfriend bought her a switch, she beat me frequently in Mario Kart 8. :) As of today my son and I are still gaming buds, now online due to distance. I play online almost everyday. I really loved your video... thanks
These videos really make me feel good. Your childhood was kinda similar to mine. I was born in 87 and my grandfather was just like your dad we both loved video games and he also used to capture a lot of stuff on camera like playing games and days out and stuff so I could always look back on it all. He was sort of like a pre internet blogger too just like your dad lmao. That’s why these videos make me so happy, your dad fully just reminds me of my grandad. I lost him to suicide in August 2007, after my grandmother passed in December 2006. He was blown away by how fast consoles were changing towards the end of the 90s and i remember the one he was most mind blown with was the first Xbox. Last console we got together was the PlayStation 3. I really hope your dad is doing well up there Tyler, he was one heck of a guy from what I’ve seen ❤️

That werewolf game looks awesome, I have no idea how I've missed that one all my life. See, your dad is helping some random guy find a game all these years later. Talk about leaving your mark. I hope my kids talk about me the same way, I raised them all with games. Me and my son still play together, though he's much too busy for it most of the time now, being away at school. Christmas day, going to relatives house just and dreaming of getting back home to play my new games. Wow, you had Snatcher! Totally jealous now. I didn't get to play that until I was in my 30s.
I remember buying multiple Sega cd games in the bargain bin in a store called Tower Records back in 95. Most games were $10. I ended up with Dune, Eternal Champions, Mortal Kombat and a couple others I can’t remember. Your videos are a real blessing Tyler, I really mean it. 🙏

I only played my cousins Sega CD a few times.. luv that ur dad played games with u. My dad bought me a super nes with zelda and we played it together it took us a year to beat it
I had the tower of terror. I had the Genesis, Sega CD underneath it, and then the 32x. What made the Sega CD so great was the sound effects and music. It was a look into the future. I remember having NHL 94 on Sega CD, and I was blown away. The opening of the game with actual video, the music, and then actual crown sound and organ music was amazing.
My father, who died in 2010, played the Master System but never showed much interest in the Genesis or Sega CD (he still gamed well into the 2000s but on various laptops). The one slightly amusing anecdote I have about him with the Sega CD was that he was holding a week-between-Christmas-and-New-Years party for a few of his friends in the living room upstairs in 1993 or 1994 and I guess he wanted to put on a CD but the Radio Shack Realistic CD player that he had bought the best part of a decade earlier in late 1985 was no longer playing discs all that reliably. So he came downstairs to the family room, possibly while I was playing something on the Genesis or Sega CD (or maybe I was just watching television) and started to pick up the Sega CD unit. I had to inform him of one major flaw with his plan, namely that there were no external CD player controls on the Sega CD itself and you kind of needed it to be attached to the Genesis which, in turn, needed to be attached to a television to be able to play music CDs properly (and there wasn't any TV to hook it up to in the living room since it was a fairly small living room as far as living rooms go, just a component stereo system). I suppose he could have had hooked up the Genesis and Sega CD to the stereo anyway and blindly fumbled around with the Genesis controller until a CD started playing but it would have been blind luck.
Man, your dad is absolutely awesome. I myself am 42 years old with two kids of my own. And funny enough my Mega Drive and Sega CD add on is connected to my old tv. I love playing on the Sega CD and it has some great gems.
man your videos just transport me back to my childhood. i miss it so much. getting the sega genesis on my birthday, and just fell in love with sonic. and that christmas when my brother was moving out he gave me all his previous systems. playstation, 64, dreamcast and a super nintendo. and a year later my parents (santa) got me the PS2. i will never forget those years. and holy moly FLASHBACK? man i never got to play that one but i did get a free game from one of my brothers friends called "fade to black" that is supposedly the sequel. i didnt get to far in that game, i was too scared lmao the death animations had me shook.
The 90's were absolutely unique. People think it's just another historical relativism, but it's NOT. Just think how many consoles there were fighting for our money mid 90's (over 10!). 3DO, Saturn, PC FX, Jaguar, PlayStation, Pippin, CDi, Nintendo 64, Amiga... all just a couple years apart from each other. It was literally one revolution after another. The 90's were the beginning of the two greatest events in gaming history: 3D graphics and online play. When the Sega CD was released we were all blown away (don't even get me started on the 3DO! It was like alien technology!!!). Videos like this make for an unvaluable historical record. This is history in the making before our very eyes. Never to be seen again. 😥
I realy miss the 90's gaming, like game devs was innovative and they did not fear anything. No mather how bad an idea something was, atleast they tried it to see if there was a market, and i remember thinking how cool it was that you could upgrade etc :) Nintendo Power and Computer&Video Games was my favorite magazines, as u get older i now understand why the adults said "wish i was a kid again". Those days where the best
Snatcher is Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima's first game before the Metal Gear Solid game because the song from Snatcher is in the beginning of MGS when the Konami and KCEJ logos appear
Your dad was a great man! I was stricktly a Nintendo fan as a kid, but there was one game for the Sega CD that I had to have. I remember working my butt off mowing lawns and anything else, just so I could buy a Sega CD console. The game I'm referring to is WWF Rage in the Cage. When I finally got it, it was worth the year long wait. I loved the LJN 16-bit WWF games, and Rage was the biggest one they developed at the time. So cool.
Your dad was so awesome . I shed tears at the happiness of it all . My parents had no interest at all in video games after the Atari 2600 . I can remember excitedly running to my dad to tell him that I beat Mr. X in Kung Fu on the NES or that I beat Kid Icarus and got barely a response from him even though it ment the world to me . I am lucky to still have my dad at 75 years old and I love him dearly , but we had virtually nothing in common while I was growing up . Your dad was VERY special !!!!
Thanks for making this video...dear ol' Dad was the one who got our family the Magnavox Odyssey^2 way back when I was a little kid, starting a love for video games. It's great that you have all that old footage saved to help cherish those times. I loved the SEGA CD as well, with Snatcher easily being my favourite -- it's still in the collection!
It’s seems like you lived a good life like me and my wife me being from Hewlett Harbor NY and wifey from Bronxville NY my nonno/grandfather literally bought me and my brothers every console and tons of video games from the 1980s 1990s and 2000s still have them all and he’s alive too always enjoy what you do
They had a promotional video of the Mega CD here in Australia before it came out...The video showed games and went for about 20 minutes, I think I watched that vid about 200 times..I never did get the Mega CD until I got older like in my mid 40's I proudly display my Mega CD now..I also got a Victor wonder mega great work bro 🙏🏽👍🏾
I like these videos. My dad loved Sega CD and 32X too...its a fond memory for me because that was the last real system we played together, .... about that time he got hooked into drugs and alcohol, and we never really connected with video games again. The summer we borrowed the Sega CD and 32X for my summer vacation, always makes me smile. I don't care what anyone says, we had a blast with Sewer Shark.
Both my parents are still alive (thankfully) but I can’t get either of them to play an action game 😂The only video game my dad plays are their patience sans freecel games and other sorts of abstract strategy games (sudoku he lives it, I loathe it). And the 81 year old is bloody brilliant at them. We once played a racing game with mum on my VideoPax (Odyssee) and she was steering against the track. And my friend was shouting the other way the other way! Follow Ray, she’s turns and crossed the line and ‘pink won’. That was the first coding logic bug we had found! When you crossed the line turned around and crossed it again was seen as a full lap 😂I was so angry about that 😂
Your videos remind me of the first video game I played with my dad. It was river raid on my atari 2600. He also loved duck hunt on my nes. My dad wasn't big into games like yours. When my nephew was born I always loved playing video games with him. We bonded so much playing video games. Keep doing your great videos.
I’m probably going to say something everyone has said before but I remember finding your videos years ago on Amazon! I couldn’t stop watching these chronicles of your childhood and family! I relate to sooo much of your childhood, but I never had as many games as you lol! Sometimes it’s just nice to take a break from this crazy world and go back to the 80’s and 90’s to relive so many similar experiences through your videos! So while I obviously never got to meet your dad, he seems like he was awesome and I know he’d be proud of you for passing on one of his hobbies to his granddaughter lol! Thanks for sharing these with us! It takes me back to a simpler time!
We were dirtbag poor and I remember watching a nes some old man was outside the old Walmart had bought his grandkid a nes with a bunch of games and the kid didn't want it but he couldn't return it since he had been buying everything over the course of the year so they would have it for Christmas. He asked if we wanted to buy it and all I had was my Christmas money. 20bucks. My mom and stepdad said if the guy would sell it for 50 they'd get it. The 30 extra was supposed to go to something important I forget what. The old guy agreed and told us how to hook it up. I remember it had TMNT Mario/duckhunt captain Skyhawk bionic commando and a few others.
After having watched several of your videos now, I have slowly built this picture of your channel not really being about your childhood in gaming EXACTLY, but actually it's a shrine to your father. I see now that this man is sadly no longer with us. What a wonderful tribute to the man, and to carry on his legacy too. I never met him, but it's clear that he would adore what you've done here with this channel, and clearly, from reading down here in the comments it strikes a powerful chord with many others too. The kind of dad it's sad everyone can't have. Best wishes.
Hey My Retro Life I genuinely love your content but I'm not the average fan that you might expect I am only 15 and enjoy hearing about my favourite hobby retro games when they were new and seeing your series is surreal.
Wow that’s so cool! Love hearing from young retro gamers. You’re around the age I was when I started really getting into the retro scene on the internet. Back then in 2000 / 2001 it was more about the Atari generation! Thanks for watching
There was a moment in a video of you as a kid with flashback and you said you didn't even know it was out yet. I miss those moments. Now we are connected to everything and so many little surprises like that are gone in our current reality. Le sigh... either way I enjoyed your sharing friend. got my sub and bell.
I wish I had a dad who was into video games as much as yours was. Only thing my dad played was the Atari 2600 on rare occasions and some ancient pong game he had from the 70s.
Dude I've just found your chanel and I'm loving what I'm seeing, I'm having the best flashbacks 🤣🤣🤣, as a 40 year old man I started playing video games in 1987, and I've had every system since lol apart from Xbox one, can't wait to see what games and stories you have for us, ps love the longer videos 👍
Man, thank you for showing the Sega CD some love. I see so many people bashing it, calling it a huge failure, but in my eyes it was an amazing console. It introduced me to my favorite genre of games; point and click adventure games. I received Secret of Monkey Island for Christmas in '93 just because my mom thought the case looked cool. I hadn't even heard of it, honestly wasn't even all that hyped about it after reading the back of the case. Of course I played it up a little when I opened it, I'd never tell my parents I was disappointed with a gift. We are a family of 5 and living off of just my dad working so money was ultra tight. But my parents did everything they humanly could to make us happy. So I ended up opening up Monkey Island thr day after Christmas and trying it out, really more looking forward to playing Prize Fighter, but those plans changed about an hour into playing Monkey Island. I was so engrossed in it, the music, the setting, the offbeat humor. It became my obsession and to this day I still play it.
I totally forgot about Wolfchild, great game. Your dad rocking out to the Wolfchild soundtrack is crazy to me. An adult appreciating game music in the 90s would have put me in a coma.
I love my sega cd... I'm 44 now and still have the original one I bought... still in perfect condition with the box..? Sega cd is still my all time favorite console
Back in 1994 I found out one day after school my friend had gotten a Sega Genesis Model 2 that was on sale at Toy R Us that his Dad had bought. Now back in 1994 most of my friends still were playing NES or the newer SNES, only one other friend I had had a SEGA but it seems like NES/SNES were more popular back than. I don't know why my 10 year old self made such a big deal about it back then but I really wanted a SEGA maybe it was because i hadn't really played the system or that the new Sega Channel had just come out. Anyway I basically pleaded so bad. I was surprised one day when I received the newer Sega CDX that sold for $500! a lot of moola back then. I thought about selling it over the years but I guess it holds sentimental value for me and I've held on to it for 28 years.
Good thing you held onto it after all these years. They’re priceless now and take up so much less room than a model 1 or a model 2. They’re really sought after
Love the channel mate it brings back so many nostalgic memories.Your father was a legend . Iam doing the gaming stuff with my kids and got them into old skool gaming and collecting
Really cool video man, truly the best timeline. Video games have just not been the same for me since Sega stop making hardware. I really miss these times.
I’m speechless. Amazing content. Thank you for sharing this part of your life. Although i didn’t own a console in the 90s I will never forget the times I spent watching my dad play pc games on his DOS and windows 95 pc. From Road Rash to Duke Nukem and everything in between. Such great memories. Thank you!! ♥️♥️♥️
This is my first time watching one of your videos. Subscribed. Some of my favorite sega cd games are the lunar games, shining force cd, nhl 94, snatcher, space adventure cobra, road rash, eternal champions, sonic cd and dark wizard. Lots of great games on the system.
Hearing about your Christmases as a family brings a smile to my face, whether it's because of the narration, the video footage, or even how crazy the hauls can get. However, if you're uploading extended cuts of older videos, could you upload your Disney Afternoon retrospective? I'd love to see that again. On another note, I strongly feel like your father would have LOVED the Jeff Fowler Sonic movies.
Good Afternoon Tyler another awesome trip down nostagia/memory lane. I remember my favorites for the Sega CD were Prince of Persia, Flashback, Dragons Lair, & Snatcher. Its so cool that guys played a lot of the same games I played. Games in general is life long love and passion i pour countless hours into. It seems to me you guys did much of that too.
@@MyRetroLife Oh Really I actually have every game in the series and am awaiting the newest one Return to Monkey Island. Your welcome Tyler Watching these home movies just brings my childhood back so much and brings so much joy to my day. I have you and video games to thank for that.
That's SO COOL your dad was able to appreciate Snatcher back in the day! Amazing classic. 😎
man your videos just transport me back to my childhood.
i miss it so much.
getting the sega genesis on my birthday, and just fell in love with sonic.
and that christmas when my brother was moving out he gave me all his previous systems.
playstation, 64, dreamcast and a super nintendo.
and a year later my parents (santa) got me the PS2.
i will never forget those years.
and holy moly FLASHBACK? man i never got to play that one but i did get a free game from one of my brothers friends called "fade to black" that is supposedly the sequel.
i didnt get to far in that game, i was too scared lmao the death animations had me shook.
Playing through Snatcher with your dad is legendary. It's so great.
I still cant express enough how happy I am that you have all this footage and these memories. Thank you so much for sharing :)
Honestly this makes my heart warm , I remember times like this with my dad from the Nintendo to the ps1 it’s crazy how times have flown by
That's interesting to see what games your dad liked. Snatcher is definitely a classic
You had a very special dad! And this channel is a gem that deserves waaaay more subs and views. Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us
So friggin rad your dad is getting a top list!
Yes hopefully the start of much more like this
Snatcher is Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima's first game before the Metal Gear Solid game because the song from Snatcher is in the beginning of MGS when the Konami and KCEJ logos appear
So cool.
Man ur dad reminds me so much of mine esp on Xmas morning. You had the coolest dad in the world buddy
Your dad was a heck of a good father. So fun to relive your memories. Thank you.
Sega CD was sooo awesome when it came out! It was cutting edge
💯 TRUTH
Thank you Tyler for introducing me to Wolfchild on Sega CD. I beat it yesterday and the soundtrack is one of my favorites of all time now!
It’s seems like you lived a good life like me and my wife me being from Hewlett Harbor NY and wifey from Bronxville NY my nonno/grandfather literally bought me and my brothers every console and tons of video games from the 1980s 1990s and 2000s still have them all and he’s alive too always enjoy what you do
I had the same experience with my dad jointly playing through Dragon Warrior in the 80's. Those shared experiences mean so much as we age.
Flashback was one of my favorite games such a great game. Blackthorn was awesome as well
They had a promotional video of the Mega CD here in Australia before it came out...The video showed games and went for about 20 minutes, I think I watched that vid about 200 times..I never did get the Mega CD until I got older like in my mid 40's I proudly display my Mega CD now..I also got a Victor wonder mega great work bro 🙏🏽👍🏾
"Snatcher! What's that?" I don't know, just one of the greatest games of ALL TIME!
When you crossed the line turned around and crossed it again was seen as a full lap 😂I was so angry about that 😂
Always enjoy these, man. Your Dad's footage makes me very nostalgic I just want to go back to that time😢 If only for a little while lol.
Your videos remind me of the first video game I played with my dad. It was river raid on my atari 2600. He also loved duck hunt on my nes. My dad wasn't big into games like yours. When my nephew was born I always loved playing video games with him. We bonded so much playing video games. Keep doing your great videos.
Your Dad sounds like a real bro ,love your videos.
I love seeing Sega CD gets it's due. Might be one one of if the not THE console that I have the most nostalgia for.
4:30 my man had 2 setups before having multiple setups was even a thing!
My favorite sega cd game and I still have my original copy is rise of the dragon. Man I loved that game
I was born in 85 and I remember all of these games. I also remember sewer shark, sonic cd, lunar, and many others lol. Good times. 👍
Man,i always wished my dad played video games with me when i was a kid. Your dad seems like a cool guy.
I was right along side ya in 94 jamming in Sega CD!
For me it was WWF Raw on Sega CD. I loved it.
Your dad truly had good taste ,thank you for showing us this, what a beautiful time.
Your so lucky to experience family like that. Incredible story! Made my day🙂
Oh 100% and never take it for granted
You’re Dad, owned Snatcher! Wow was he awesome!
I totally forgot about Wolfchild, great game. Your dad rocking out to the Wolfchild soundtrack is crazy to me. An adult appreciating game music in the 90s would have put me in a coma.
P.O.P reminds me of the game flashback on the, Panasonic 3DO.
I love my sega cd... I'm 44 now and still have the original one I bought... still in perfect condition with the box..? Sega cd is still my all time favorite console
I’m 42 this brings back some cool memories
Glad you connected with it!
They’re really sought after
Don’t open it kid, don’t open it! 14:12
Just be like me and surf the seven sea's.
Love the channel mate it brings back so many nostalgic memories.Your father was a legend . Iam doing the gaming stuff with my kids and got them into old skool gaming and collecting
Yes! I was hoping to see you cover Snatcher. Really awesome stuff.
I love your dad! ♥️ your videos are so amazing and heartfelt. I’m very proud to be a subscriber.
Why thank you! Love this
I went right to eBay and ordered mansion of hidden souls for Sega cd. I didn’t realize my Saturn version was a sequel!!!
Really cool video man, truly the best timeline. Video games have just not been the same for me since Sega stop making hardware. I really miss these times.
Mansion of hidden souls... I remember this, I always got stuck at the room with the candles and said screw it
I’m speechless. Amazing content. Thank you for sharing this part of your life. Although i didn’t own a console in the 90s I will never forget the times I spent watching my dad play pc games on his DOS and windows 95 pc. From Road Rash to Duke Nukem and everything in between. Such great memories. Thank you!! ♥️♥️♥️
Great video as always, I remember the first time I play Road avenger and slam city
So cool. I had no idea The Terminator had that kind of animation. Actually looks great to this day.
It really does. Definitely check it out
This is my first time watching one of your videos. Subscribed. Some of my favorite sega cd games are the lunar games, shining force cd, nhl 94, snatcher, space adventure cobra, road rash, eternal champions, sonic cd and dark wizard. Lots of great games on the system.
Thanks for subscribing!
Beautiful episode. Thanks for sharing! 🍻
Did he play wing commander sega cd? Me and my dad loved that one.
This channel deserves more love!
Another absolute favorite of Dad’s that didn’t make this video was Secret of Monkey Island! Thanks for commenting Michael
@@MyRetroLife Oh Really I actually have every game in the series and am awaiting the newest one Return to Monkey Island. Your welcome Tyler Watching these home movies just brings my childhood back so much and brings so much joy to my day.
I have you and video games to thank for that. I remember 1987 When my dad & I went to Circuit City around christmas time and we picked up our first Nintendo Entertainment System and a new 27" JVC TV to play it on.
It pains me to know that you lost your father & I give you my condolences. He seemed like an amazing person & cool game partner. Thank you again Tyler. Keep up the Great content because I know he would be so proud of you.
This was a really heartfelt and personal vid and I totally loved it!
Thanks! Glad you did
Can't believe I've never heard of Wolfchild. IT looks great. I'm going to have to look for that on SNES or Genesis
Highly recommended!
