I’ll never forget talking to my 84 year old uncle when I was 10 (he seemed ancient) and he told me that he learns new things all the time. As a kid, I was dumbfounded that old people still learn. Never stop learning! 😄
I had a B2601 with a backhoe. I used that extra power to bring the front tires off the ground while the backhoe stabilizers lifted the rear tires off the ground. That hidden function is very beneficial for tractors with backhoes.
After watching your first video, I found that my B2710 has a similar function. The only difference is I have to feather the control to the right in order to not raise the front tires and the bucket is level to the ground. When the control stick is moved to the right limits, it will have full power to lift the tires. Great video. I would never have realized how much of a difference this makes when digging into a pile.👍
The extended dump position on my John Deere 1025R is the quick dump. Never tried leveling the bucket by using the quick dump... but will give it a try. Informative video, thanks!

@@MyClutteredGarage No snow yet Ed but I have seen snow in October. Hoping it holds off until November this years. I still have a lot to get done before winter.
Thanks. I have a JD 4052R and will see if that has it or not later. However I no longer use ramps to drive on a trailer. I drive up to trailer with a flat bucket and tires close or touching. Lower the bucket until the front wheels are even with the trailer. Then curl the bucket down till the front wheels roll onto the trailer. Raise the bucket and drive forward in low gear. The weight of the tractor lowers the back of the trailer enough that the tires catch and drives right on. Reverse the procedure to back off the trailer. Depending upon if there is a low guard in front of the front wheels, you may be able to back off the trailer just making sure you raise the bucket enough to clear the trailer.
Thanks for the tip about finding the level.... Being a newbie, that's one of the challenges I have finding level to the "ground" I'm at... I have a level indicator for level but that sometimes does not help out in the field. My quick dump is all the way to the right.
After watching your first video about the hidden feature, I was excited to try it out. Unfortunately, I have an older Kubota L3130 which does not have this hidden feature…or if it does, it’s still hidden from me. Thanks for the update.
Good piece of information Ed. I was aware of the float of the up and down of the loader, but was not aware of this. I'll have to check my John Deere for this procedure. Hopefully, it'll be like your B 2601. I like that ability in the curl and dump availability. Thanks buddy.
Just wanted to follow up, I just got done moving a large mound of dirt and rock, and tried your method, it works good, thank you. Note that mine did lift the front of the tractor some, but I only have 3 hours on my brand new B2301. Also note I am new to tractors, so your tips in several videos have helped me - a lot Knowing this feature and knowing the purpose of it, I have to tell you it worked well. Thank you!
Great idea on the update video Ed, I hope it does as well or better than the original. Very well put together and informative video as always. When you get your forks maybe see if you can use this feature to easily level the forks on the ground. -Richie
Awesome tip, I just came over from your old video to this new one, I appreciate the update - now to go see if my brand new B2301 has that feature. I was actually looking for how to use the "float" feature, which I learned. Quick question, i see everyone with the t hooks welded to the top of the bucket - why? Do you have a video on that one?
Thanks very much Lance. Indeed I do have a video about the grab hooks. Check out both video #3 and #5 on my channel. th-cam.com/users/MyClutteredGarage
Does the k2501 with la525 loader have it? I could have sworn it did. Got a 3rd function added other day and got a grapple this morning and it doesn't do it. Anybody know?
I just checked with a friend who has the L3901. It does not have the function, so I would assume the L2501 does not have it either. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the grapple! -Ed
the "new tip" is nice, but im confused, doesnt sound like your using the "R2" function but the "R1" function. I thought the point of this video was a piratical use for the "R2" slower/strong curl function?
The R2 function is helpful after using R1 to quickly level the bucket. Then use R2 to slightly angle the bucket down to dig in a bit. Thanks for watching! -Ed
That Grapple controller should be variable speed! It's a crappy design if it's not! That would be like a thumb control or boom swing on an excavator. If it's not variable then it's garbage! But they probably have a preset speed that you can change with a knob or wrench adjustment. Unfortunately some of the big hi-lift telehandlers have that bad design on the fork angle and stabilizer controls also. I still cannot think of any reason why that extra function would be like that on there. That is a crappy design. Every loader I've ever been on you could raise the tires by dumping the bucket. You did not have to push the boom down. I can do all those things on every tractor I've ever been on without that extra function. I do like the heel on that loader bucket for back dragging and grading. Lots of loader bucket are too rounded to do that.
The 'extra function' ie: third function, is for a front-end implement that takes a third hydraulic hookup like a grapple. You have raise/lower and curl/dump AND open/close the claw. Without the third function you cannot run a claw/grapple.
@@thekobaz if I remember the way it was explained, that 3rd function is not variable. It was just like an on and off switch/momentary switch like some tractors have on the thumb! Those are a really crappy design. Any hydraulic function should have a variable speed! A similar crappy designers is on the paddlewheel scrapers that have the rocker steering wheels, those steering wheels have two position going each direction. If you turn it approximately 10 degrees either way it'll move slowly in that direction. And if you move it to the second position which is approximately 20° it'll turn faster that direction. When you let go it snaps back to center position. It's like steering with a 5 position electric switch. It totally sucks! Some off road forklifts have an electric switch to adjust the angle of the forks. And some of them have electric switches to operate the hydraulic stabilizers. These are all due to crappy designs! Some of those forklifts that operate the forks on a switch also have a curl rate adjuster operated by a knob. Similar to the drop rate controller on a farm tractor for lowering the three-point hitch at a preset speed. On a forklift it's still a pain in the ass. But like I said before that third function should be variable speed! I never said that it wasn't needed. Maybe I didn't phrase it right before. Every tractor I've ever been on that had a front loader had variable-speed operation on every feature. Even on the clam bucket. And having to use an extra power feature to raise the front wheels means it's a crappy design! It should be easy to raise the front wheels off the ground easily by either pushing the bucket down normally or curling the bucket down. On big machines that have an extra power function that means that they have a way of connecting two or more pumps together to increase hydraulic pressure for one specific function at a time. I reread my other comment and the extra function that I was talking about was the stupid function of having to push the bucket lever down farther to race the front wheels. You should not need extra power to raise a front wheels off the ground. That is a totally normal function that every front-loader should be able to do easily!
I just tried it on my B2650, it keeps dumping and lifting the front end. The far right position lifts it with more power. I can’t use that function to level the bucket. I like my B2650 but that is one thing I liked better on my John Deere 4200, it had a precise leveling indicator, not so with the Kubota.
