This brings back memories of our Doberman Darth (as in Darth Vader) who used to jump and swim in the pool with us; she would even jump off the diving board on command. I have noticed owning my Kubota B8200 for 35 years now, that these are not automobiles or trucks, and the parts are smaller and cannot handle the abuse or torques we put on the cars. So. I'm more careful with the repairs! I found this out repairing a universal joint on the front wheel drive where I was bending the yoke in the press! Easy big boy!!
Eric, you feed my OCD. Great video, you are a good teacher, clear, concise without filler words or off topic comments. Even though you did not have to grease bearings you demonstrated greasing each fitting. For me that locked into my mind the location of each fitting even though I could not see all of them.
Kudos to Mrs. O for air drying laundry…I don’t see that so much anymore. I miss the fresh air dried sheets on clothesline smell! Thanks for your homestyle videos.
Love the extra content. That mower deck looks like a maintenance nightmare. With a MSRP of $3200, that deck cost more that half of my commercial 60” Toro Zero Turn. I have a tractor as well and considered a finish cut mower, but love having the dedicated zero turn with same cutting swath and more maneuverability. Keep living the good life Eric O!
@@TheRealEricO Yep…makes perfect sense for your situation. Thanks for all the content over the years…lots of entertainment and real world knowledge you have passed on to thousands of others…most appreciative!
@@TheRealEricOYeah I just got a zero turn cause it seemed ok on the hills at the dealer, but turns out mine are steeper and it is super sketchy going uphill...
Well he just showed you how it is not bad at all for the Kubota. If your zero turn has three blades, then taking them off the sharpen is a wash. Fact is, the Kubota tractors with the diesel engines won't even know or care if the grass is tall or wet (though generally nobody is gonna mow with it tall and wet to avoid heavy clumping killing the grass). And you can just buy the tractor to use as a mower, but with the TLB you have the loader and the backhoe, something the zero turn can't possibly do.
I believe blade rotation is to even out the wear on the lift portion of the blade. The right hand blade sees more grass clippings and other debris from the left and center blades and the lift portion of the blade will wear out. I have a ton of oak trees and the acorns would do a number on that left portion of the blade.
I have a BX2680, with the 60" mower deck...the top spindle shields are now plastic, as well as the discharge chute. I have the non-drive over deck, with them, you turn the gauge wheels 90 degrees to the deck, and roll the deck out from under the tractor...to move my deck around I use the pallet forks on my tractor too.
How much more American can you get. A great auto mechanic working on his tractor in his spare time then relaxing with his dog with stick and a pond. And as a bonus a great wife as a partner. Eric for Pres.!
Lucky Eric, a great shop, a great yard, a great tractor/mower a beautiful wife and family....! Not everything in New York sucks.... someone likes the water...!
I knew that I recognized your voice and realized that it was from your garage's channel. Nice to see that you are into tractors as well and your videos are extremely helpful!
I don't know Eric, for not being a "lawn mowing weenie" your grass looks pretty good! 😊 Glad you started this other channel, you're my favorite TH-camr 👍
Haven't seen the pups in a long time. I always remember your daughter putting Weston through his paces at the shop. Don't own a mower myself, but enjoyed watching the video regardless.
When I sharpen/change mower-blades. I put the BEST blade nearest the discharge-end of the deck. That blade has to deal with ALL the clippings from the other two blades so it gets the most wear.
Makes you wonder who won this year's manufacturer's contest for hardest and messiest oil change! Extra points if you can make a bigger mess with less oil.
Have watched you for a while on South Main Auto- awesome content! But now an after hours showing me how to service the same mower deck on the same tractor that I have?!?! Much appreciated! God bless you and all the O’s!
When I used to use a tractor with a mower deck I had 2 extra sets of blades. When the blades were dull I just swapped in a sharp set. When I had a few minutes in the garage I would sharpen and balance the dull blades, I used a bench grinder.
I have a B7200HST (1986 vintage) and the difference between metal parts vs the plastic parts on the newer models is significant. Not that it affects operation and longevity, just the difference. This one will outlive me, but wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one.
LOL It seems all the Kubota experts on You Tube recommend " not changing the deck in the grass " well you did fine, and it worked for me also on my BX the boggy wheel axles are set up for side removal.
Mr. O, my zero turn torque is 110 pound feet it's a 5/8 bolt. I accidentally hit an abandoned power wire tie down. The 1/4 inch thick blade was only slightly damaged to my surprise. Enjoy the videos.
Hi Eric. That is one smart bye. Diesel longevity motor . Easy service. Your meadow is larg . I’m not a gardener on our small lot we keep the grass at. 3” helps to chock the weeds. But let’s stop right there this is not a garden show .👍🔧🛠⚔️⚒💥PS love the dogs 🐕 Huskies & shepherds 🐕👍
Great video really enjoy the instruction on these I have Massey Ferguson very similar in size and have not serviced my mower deck, I will now. Thanks Mr O !
Belleville washers, used either your arrangement or could be used in opposing arrangement depending on what their application is. be aware how they are removed as mentioned. Appreciate the home maintenance tips you do as well.
we always put a bar in the front mount (or use the link) lift it up from there and drained it from the fill hole. then you are right there at the blades. fwiw kubota branded oils are made at valvoline last i knew. check the oil in that gearbox often. the design makes it hard to see a leak and last gearbox i did was about 700.00 for just gears and brgs no labor. with the driveshaft make sure the outer lock collar is even or flush with the center drive hub. all it takes is a small piece if dirt under a lock ball to not latch in place. a bad day is a driveshaft. a really bad day is a transmission housing. done a few of those.
Have not seen a double belt drive deck. I use 2 - 90 inch rear mount finish mower decks, they use a single belt, never had slipping issues, even in 12 inch grass. 👌
It is a single serpentine belt that drives all three spindles. Maybe you missed that it has a tensioner pulley that has the belt going the opposite way, but it is all one belt.
I have a ebike with huge tires like that 4.8”. I freaking love riding my ebike. 52V 1500W mid drive, full suspension, carbon fiber frame, carbon fiber wheels. Best thing ever! Luv me sum SMA…oops….I’m not saying that one
I have a Kubota Z231 zero turn that I use to mow. I have had Simplicity,Wheel Horse and others made by MTD over the years and the Kubota far exceeds them all in my opinion. I’m thinking of buying a new BX series for maintaining my property. Thanks for the video Eric.
Eric.. If you take your wheel pins and just grind a little chamfer on the end, it will start in the hole 10x easier. Doesn't take much. I assume your spring loaded deck pins are already that way- if not, pull them off and grind their tips also. Makes life so much easier.
Nice tractor though, Mr. O... From the videos I see here in TH-cam, my personal opinion is that these with the straight mechanical PTOs are more efficient than the hydraulic driven ones.. I hope this 'll serve you well.. Thanks for this video Eric !!
Hoi Eric, the most important, besides they are sharp enough is the balance. (So the bearings surviving longer) I worked a lot on grass mowers and we balanced every time after we sharpen the blades. Good videos! Greetings from the Netherlands
Hey Eric I am a bit of a lawnmower guy. Nice machine, I used to drive a Steiner 430 max had the mower deck snowblower and a plow. I used the 48” deck to mow soccer fields and schools. They bought a bigger one after I left and it had a kabota diesel.
After years of listening to the neighbor mow his lawn we finally see Eric mow his.
Love the dogs.
lmao His shop neighbor is a mowing monster
Watching your dog make that leap into the pond is a beautiful thing!
Hey Eric, another good option for extracting your gear oil is a pump from a shampoo/body wash bottle down the fill hole.
I use that method for brake masters 🙃 Hello from Down under 😉
@@mag1vl we are both from Oz then!
Won't you get soap in your oil😂😂. Sorry, but sometimes I crack myself up with my humor. 🤣🤣🤣
Yup. I actuall use them filling gearboxes and rear ends too👍
That’s genius.
Glad to see Eric working on a vehicle that has no plastic parts.
the Olympic dive team on the phone, for the best pond dive ever 10 out of 10🐕👍

Sorry about your dad. He did a good job with you guys.
The way country life is meant to be! By the way Eric, what a great photo of you and the family! Have a great day young fella!
What makes for a successful after-hours video? Puppy dogs running with the newly fixed equipment!
Nice maintenance video, those dogs are beautiful!
Great video Eric with my favourite combination of wrenching, dogs and grass mowing🤣🤣🤣
I like the way your GS just dive bombs into the water. Absolutely ZFG about the water.
He will do it for hours on end too 😂
KA-BLOOOSHHH!!! I laughed out loud when the dog hit the water. That fella loves the water!
He spends half his day at the pond. Right up till the day it freezes over.
Eric, you feed my OCD. Great video, you are a good teacher, clear, concise without filler words or off topic comments. Even though you did not have to grease bearings you demonstrated greasing each fitting. For me that locked into my mind the location of each fitting even though I could not see all of them.
Looks like a pretty easy mower deck to service 13:43 always nice to see the Pupps @Eric O - After Hours
Kudos to Mrs. O for air drying laundry…I don’t see that so much anymore. I miss the fresh air dried sheets on clothesline smell!
Thanks for your homestyle videos.
Nice video on explaining How to work on the mower love the dog at the end going in the water

I tried a zero turn on our property and it just didn't work. We need 4x4 for a lot of it just because of the side hills and the way the terrain is.
@@TheRealEricO Yep…makes perfect sense for your situation. Thanks for all the content over the years…lots of entertainment and real world knowledge you have passed on to thousands of others…most appreciative!
@@TheRealEricOYea, they can be finicky with slope and especially if there is even a hint of moisture on the grass.

You sure do take good care of that thing. If only everyone did this. A guy would feel good buying a piece of equipment from you
Beautiful view around the cabin and the pond 28:02 @Eric O - After Hours

Reason why I do a back and forth pattern , even the wear and tear
13:15 Ayeee there are the pups, haven't seem 'em in awhile
Belleville washers are really good lock washers.
that pup hits the water better than i ever have!!!!!
I love it cranking out videos giving the people what we like

Wow, a land keeper does a lot more mechanical work than I thought.
Great video on a side note I don’t think I ever seen a video with out the famous SMA SWAG on
You got some really nice dogs Eric.
That was awesome, thanks for sharing!
Eric O - After Hours.. Another great video with some awesome scenery. Thanks for sharing it with us Eric.
Glad you enjoyed it
Summertime, mowing with the Kubota, playing with the pups. Sounds like my summer too. Life is good. Cheers.

What a great location!!! A great place for the family.
Damn, running over gravel is how I sharpen my mower blades
You got a really nice little piece of heaven there
So many awesome toys!😜

Loving these videos.. I love the wrenching SMA videos too but these feel more relatable.
Solid build looking unit, should be good for years of use!
You have a very nice piece of property love the pond and cabin
hopefully an interview of the shop neighbor who mows will soon come!!
Nice mower--nice property. This is the first time I've understood why you haven't left PRNY.
It really is a beautiful part of the state!
Mr. O, my zero turn torque is 110 pound feet it's a 5/8 bolt. I accidentally hit an abandoned power wire tie down. The 1/4 inch thick blade was only slightly damaged to my surprise. Enjoy the videos.
Yeah these blades are really robust
I don’t even know what my torque spec is but my mower uses a 15/16” nut. I just use a 3/8 cordless impact for putting them on and off.

With your German Shepherd this has to be your best video so far. LOL
Found your extra channel through a commenter on one of Rays video that I thought was a scammer. Cool
Watching you fiddle with the deck install made me appreciate my JD quick connect deck. I can have it off and back on in 30 seconds.
But then you have a JD and its green.
Great video really enjoy the instruction on these I have Massey Ferguson very similar in size and have not serviced my mower deck, I will now. Thanks Mr O !
Thanks Eric, great place 👍

That's how you keep nice things nice. I'll neve own one of those but still interesting to watch. Time for another pit barrel video now...

Nice set up. Hard work does pay.
One of the most important things when sharpening lawnmower blades is to keep them balanced.
Pulling them and sharpening is not just to cut the grass more efficiently, its good for balancing the blades!
