    I'd like to suggest that locating that plate so it fit up close to the back edge of the cutting edge would virtually lock it in place.

    Mr. Ed ,This "fix" is on the right track.Had a similar devise; that did "everything WRONG". lt twisted, shifted, buckled ( never bent) but "luved" to almost FALL OFF!( wrenched on the "wing-nut" constantly).
    Rather than "Tweak IT" & DRILL the loader bucket & "Bolt-action" it all altogether & "Unitize it" for a ridged & SAFE application; l SENT IT BACK.
    Then "proceeded" to the drawing-board fer a "Real-Safe Miricale Wonder Devise".
    The "unit" consists of 3 parts, is strong( moves my 5400lb 22' 900lb tounge weight deck-over tilt trailer; uphill through the mud constantly). It only takes 10seconds for "on & off" efforts.
    Were as your "unit" might work for you & others; l would not trust this "quicky-universal, Wing-nut" devise with more than 45 ounces!
    Thank you Sir for the Excelent vidio and happy safe tractor toteing. Best wishes with all your endeavours.
    The only "klinker" is that the "3 piece unit" weighs 62pounds.

    Nice fix it, Ed. Now that it's too late, could you have aligned the front of the rectangular plate so that it meshed with the back side of the welded on bucket edge? That would make it even more resistant to twisting.

    Great fix, now to find me some steel. I have a lot of welding to do. Bought an old used JD 1209 MoCo that needs the bar that the tongue bar connects to repaired. It had cracked and was poorly welded, and completely busted, so have to pound it back straight and weld in some new steel behind it. While I'm getting the steel for that might as well for this hitch too.

    Much more better Ed. I was thinking of doing the very same thing to the top of my bucket. I have some weld on hooks I bought a while back, I also have a pice of plate that is 4"s wide by 60"s long and 3/8"s thick. If I add a hook to the center of my bucket I will first tack weld the plate to the bucket and weld the kooks to the plate. This should strengthen the top so it don't get all crinkled up. Good video and a great idea you had.

    Thanks for the video! I have one and did not have any bending problems; thicker bucket I guess. I did have a problem with twisting on the hitch when a turn was made. I solved the problem by welding on a tab to the hitch so that I could put a bolt through the cutting edge of the bucket. cutting edge already had holes so didn't have to make new ones in hardened edge. No twisting now and very solid.

    I used to live in a town that had a welding shop that if you went in there and asked for something oddly specific they would just give it to you if you told 'em what it was for. Got an improvised takedown rod for a Mini-14 with beautifully beveled ends just for the asking.

    I've been looking at getting a receiver mounted snow plow, and thought putting a receiver on the loader would allow me to use it on the tractor as well. That would be a fairly significant shock load and torque, though. This looks like a great improvement.
    One thing that amused me, though, is worrying about dents in the bucket. I've had my tractor for 35 years now and the bucket is scraped, dinged, dented and bent... still works though with no detectable problems.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d recommend something like a set of pallet forks with a built in receiver for something like that. I don’t mind dings and debts, but I like to avoid them when possible. Thanks for watching! -Ed

    • @Arfonfree
      @Arfonfree 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MyClutteredGarage I came across another improvement to make: 2 pieces of angle iron welded to the sides of the receiver that rest against the cutting edge to take up the twisting moment. I'm going to get going on this. Even without the snow plow, this will make moving trailers around much easier.

    1) There's no real need to grind off the little rectangular key. Just weld the big flat piece up next to it and save yourself some work.
    2) You might want to measure the rectangular flat piece and size/place it so that the front edge (the one facing the front edge of the bucket) is up pretty close to the back of the cutting edge of the bucket. That gives the whole rig something to slide up to and butt against if you start pulling on a trailer that's stuck. The clamp screw likely won't keep you from pulling the hitch rig off your bucket if you pull hard. Tack everything first to make sure it will go on and off OK.
    3) My bucket (L35) has some wide reinforcing ribs underneath running front to back, so the rectangular added piece should be sized to fit and not just random or they might overhang.
    4)
    5:54 - "You really should clamp your work down."
    6:20 - Keeps right on drilling without clamping.
    5) I never drill steel dry.

    • @acdii
      @acdii 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a flaw in the PDI, not the lube. The axles get an air bubble when filled, and have to be worked a bit to break the bubble, then filled some more. It's due to the shape of the housings where the gears run through at right angles to reach the wheel, the lube sits there and doesn't fully run down into the lower hubs until the wheels are spun and turned back and forth a few times so it appears full when it's not. Not much different than purging the air out of a power steering system.

    Nice mod, send it to the manufacturers.
    Please though, put your guard back on your disc grinder. One day a disc will grab and shatter and you may lose all your fun bits !!
    Seriously; it's a bad example to those who don't know any better.

    Could that fit on three draw bar in the rear? I want to mount a whinch plate on the draw bar.

      I wouldn't trust it for that. I don't think it would clamp on tight enough. I would look into a 3-point hitch receiver like this: th-cam.com/video/hcnwB93bNGc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tH8c2rwxRitRGhfV
