    I came here coz Wembanyama is being compared to him a lot these days. And boy it was right. It's really possible to be 7'4" and mobile. It just sounds like a myth to me until I saw highlights of Sampson.

    Injuries robbed us from one of the greatest dynasty & big men combo ever!
    Ralph Sampson and Olajuwon running the C and the PF was a thing of beauty.
    I vividly remember Ralph Sampson flying from the free-throw line at the dunk contest... 1984 if I recalled correctly! It was great to see!

      I agree Dave. Sampson was a very unique player for his size. The things he could do were amazing. I believe they would have been true contenders for the NBA title in the 80s and early 90s for sure.

    Great player.. very agile and excellent ball handling for his height. He could run like a guard back and forth. Some said too weak and thin, but maybe if he had been a little stronger he wouldn't have been that fast. I remember him well in 1986 Western conference and NBA finals. Crucial for the Rockets' success in that period. Ask the Lakers..

    I hope Wemby learns from Sampson and his experiences, both good and bad. Wemby is basically an updated version of Ralph Sampson with almost exactly the same size, build and athleticism (though Wemby's probably even a step above what Sampson was athletically). The main lesson I hope he learns is to do EVERYTHING he can to stay healthy, including not coming back from injuries too soon, though that's less of an issue in today's NBA. Sampson's career was famously derailed by injuries, a common problem among big men and a special concern for athletic big men since the torque and pressure and wear and tear on joints is tremendous. I really hope Wemby watches his diet, stretching, weight training, etc. to be what Sampson wasn't.

    • @jcpenny3606
      @jcpenny3606 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sampson was very athletic. He participated in the 1984 slam dunk contest. He did a 360 dunk and the free throw line dunk too. Even though Sampson was considered thin back then, he was still a physical player and had no problem playing against the stronger rougher and meaner bigs back then. Wemby wouldn't survive.

      @@jcpenny3606 yeah Wemby is lucky in today's NBA type of game. If the game is still of the old, he'll have a hard time. That's one factor why Sampson got injured many times.

    Don't let the highlights fool you, Ralph Sampson was a bad shooter. For a guy with that size, speed, athleticism, agility, and coordination to shoot way below 50% is just wrong. The guy was all hype, it was always about what He could be not what he actually was. Even in college and the NBA before injury he was never close to as good as the hype.

    • @anthonymuex8387
      @anthonymuex8387 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sooo.., he didn't win 3 straight Player of the Year in college, and 4 All-star teams in NBA (one of those MVP)?

    • @jcpenny3606
      @jcpenny3606 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He could make jumpers but bigs back then play closer to the basket. He only had 3 full seasons before he got injured, and his field goal percentage were 53%, 50%, and 49% in those 3 years. His percentage started dipping because he was moved to the power forward position. He still managed to average 18.6 ppg, 10.6 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game in a career badly affected by injuries.
      Bro you have no idea what you're talking about.
