  • This is our first hand experience as a tire shop with brands that are commonly used at the track.
    The 200 treadwear segment is one of the most competitive and disputed sectors in the tire market. It's a tire category with street tire looks and race tire performance, but also has the ability to be driven to and from the racetrack.
    We cover the slower longer lasting standard 200 treadwear tires plus the extremely quick and faster wearing super 200 treadwear tires.

    Solid video, personally have the sur4g and I like them. I'm not super fast or anything but they held up through each session at thunderhill west around 85F ambient temps, as mentioned in video they do seem to be quite wide comparatively to other tires of same sizing. Hard to get tires that check off every box on the list, this helps instead of browsing through tons of forum comparison post.

    Some info about sizes would be great! Showing somewhere on screen the sizes available would be awesome, but if that's too much, just a general overview, i.e., Sized more for sport compacts, available in muscle car sizes, not many choices for rims more than 19", that kind of thing.

I really liked those tires, they were very quiet on the street as well! Much as id like to get another set I think ill stick with RS4s at my skill level for just putting around in HPDEs 👍

    • @TPMparts
      @TPMparts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are looking for a higher level of grip compared to your Michelin PS4 with the ability to drive to and from the track, it would be a good choice. For double duty street and track we have many clients with that power level driving on 200 TW. Miatas, civics, 86/BRZ, S2000 are all similar power and run on 200 TW.

    So this is pretty much where I spend most of my thought and money on racing. I've used them all except the ao52. Right now I'm running rt660 and rivals s 1.5. The rt660 is faster than the re71r in all cases on my 2016 camaro ss in a 305 square. I just ordered a set of the rt660 in 315 cause they're going to be know as the fastest tire soon. I think the data shows the ao52 but idk when I compared apples to apples I think the rt660 is faster and last longer. If you are racing in hot climate. Ao52 literally gets greasy half way through runs in 100 degree weather and on time attack is like 3 corners and I greasy. Okay to be 100 percent fair. I was not driving the ao52 car but was same car and riding in it. I was driving the rt660. Two friends trying to compare and the rt660 305 was .5 a second on 1:30 lap road course and .7 auto x. We're very equal drivers and both felt the tr660 was better in hot Temps. But it worked amazing in the cold too. By cold I mean 45-50 degrees. I have so much tire tire it's crazy. Going to get more this weekend

    • @TPMparts
      @TPMparts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great to hear! We have tested both the Falken and the A052, and the A052 produces more lateral G’s, however the Falken does have much better steering response from a stiffer sidewall construction. That would make perfect sense why the Falken works better on the heavier Camaro platform.

      How long would you guys say the rt660’s last? In terms of # of track days and time off track. I’m hoping to find a street and track tire that is slightly more leaning on track use. But don’t have spare wheels to swap after a track weekend. I track about 10 days a year and ready to try something other than MPS4S

    • @TPMparts
      @TPMparts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@magikmastr 3 track days usually. Keep in mind it is still a super 200 treadwear so it's tradeoff for quick times would be faster wear. If you want something that is fast and longer lasting I would go Nexen SUR4G or if you want something longer lasting than a super 200, go with the Hankook RS4.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@magikmastr it's probably a good option but the Hankook rs4 would be better. Not as much data on the rt660 as far as wear but the thought as of now is the rs4 will have less grip but better wear. Still a good track tire though. Actually to be completely honest the rt660 wears really good like I'm still running a set I said were done 2 events ago. No matter which you use out of the good 200 none will last very long with street driving. I did the same thing you're doing for a year or two and wasted enough money on killing track tires on the street I could have bought spare wheels and a set of firestone firehawk indy 500 for the street. Or buy new track wheels from apex and use whatever you got for street tires

      It depends on which category you are going to run the tire. The continental should be an extremely good endurance compound. However for ultimate time attack & autocross use it won’t be ideal.

      A lot of our guys like the Hankook RS4 for that since it lasts long, has good street manners and is good on track as well. I know they baselined off the RS4 so we’ll see how well it does!

      @@TPMparts I find that weird because they don't perform all that well compared to others such as the A052, RT660, or Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect. they are nosier, and don't handle nowhere near as great either 🤷‍♂️. maybe tire longevity is all it has to offer than. but I know contis typically last long, and the ECS is something that handles like a track tire very close to it. so the ECS Force version should be even better at 200 vs 340 treadwear

    Eric’s tire categories are incredibly confusing and without context or even maybe a visual it’s hard to get a good idea of where tires are in the lineup

    “Fast paced” is not a technical specification. The word you’re looking for is “low rolling resistance.”

    • @TPMparts
      @TPMparts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fast paced will be describing the tires on track in comparison to lap times. Also the rolling resistance of super sticky tires will be high, so consumers that use this type of tire will not be looking to maximize fuel economy. Hope that explains our descriptions a bit better!

    615KT+ do you mean 615K+? If thats a typo what was the laptime compared to the RS4? I know you said the RS4 is quicker but im curious how long the lap was and what the time difference is.

      We found they are more than 1 second quicker on a 2 minute course.
