I enjoyed. Kenyan Church photographer using nikon D3500 and Canon eos 2000d and learning we need much to learn and improvise. Mostly .... the narrow shot if it exists. Recordings are for sermons but with such knowledge, looking Forward to expansion by the Grace of God. Baraka
Thanks for the great video and awesome suggestions. The next angle I want to try is the side profile stage angle. Our church is more traditional and conservative in approach so I can’t have camera ops on stage but I’m hoping to achieve this and some POV angles with some new PTZ cameras soon. I’m looking at the new PTZ Optics 4K Move.
My church, Hoboken Grace, just moved into our own building and I am taking in as much as I can with these tips to let my cam ops know some angles we can use in the space. I might be able to convince our pastor to look at getting a cable cam also watching this video lol. As the Director/Switcher of my church, these videos have been amazing for me and my team. Thank you!
Just picked up two new cameras and wireless transmitters to add to our current 2 camera setup. Love your motorized slider shot behind the drums so I’ll probably try that and maybe a down low shot. Not sure where the second will end up yet but excited to try some of these out. Thanks for your hard work Ryland!
Ive loved your cable cam from you first released the video. Ive spent many hours trying to work out where I could put a cable cam in our auditorium, but alas, I don’t think it can be done!!! I just have to be content watching the awesome shots your cable cam gives you.!!!
Hey Ryland, you mentioned that every church should have the two most basic shots for their stream and it got me thinking: is there any way you could potentially put together a video for a most basic web stream setup? I'm working with a church of barely 100 people and have only two cameras at my disposal - a Canon camcorder tripod mounted in the back of the sanctuary for an establishing shot, and a remote iPhone upfront for a side angle. I feel that we could do better, but would love any advice. Even if you don't have time to put together a video, Id love it if we could connect through messaging. You're an awesome dude and I appreciate everything you do for the kingdom.
Side angle is where we are trying to move to next since we currently have 3 "straight forward" camera views. The wireless tech is a big investment especially since we would want to go with TeraDek, so for now we are toying with the having another PTZ mounted on the side wall. Thanks for the great tips!
I’m just a volunteer on camera . I love it but I don’t know all the angles and the best way to use the camera. I’m only on weekends but I know there is more to make our live stream more interesting and feel like they are there… any help would be 😊
Hi. Some great ideas here, but you seemed to have missed the most-used shot on TV and live streaming, which is the Mid Shot. This shot is from the waist up of the worship leader, preacher etc and is the mainstay of talk shows, news broadcasts etc. For preachers, this may also mean the operator needs to pan with them as they walk up and down. Be good to add this to the video.
Whoops - missed that completely. I was expecting it to be one of angles you covered with a caption, etc. After you covered the wide-shot, I saw the MS as the next logical one. I think it needs more detailed coverage. Apologies.
Ah... "includes this automatic paralaxing effect.." I think you meant to say that it includes a way to "automatically pan" the camera. Paralax is what a slider gives you - it shows the foreground moving faster than the background. But good stuff.. I recently changed churches because I served on the media team for over 2 years and no-one would listen to me in terms of doing things better. Simple things like - the establishing shot you mentioned! Or when handheld get as close to the subject as possible at the shortest lens length (widest) as possible to reduce jarring handheld movement that produces a feeling of anxiety in the viewer (which is why action movies and such use heavy handheld techniques.) Etc. etc. The team was largely in their early 20's where I'm in my 50's and I've been doing video work since I can remember, but professionally since I worked out in LA in the early 90's. Still would not listen to anything I had to say. I pray for them though..
@@puppet022 thanks. Yes, I went through that thought process and checked myself. Changed a couple things and made sure I was not being confrontational or overbearing or critical. It is what it is at this point. Funny thing though, my daughter is friends with the head Pastors daughter and has apparently told her about my experiences and how their live stream is so... unprofessional looking. I have a feeling they will buy all new gear and see that the problem still exists before anything changes. The kids in that ministry have been explaining the issues are due to old equipment. But me, I'm involved in my new churches media team already, much more so than my old church after 2 + years of serving. I've been able to a few suggestions and felt like I was heard.
You may have said it in one of your videos but what is your streaming setup from when it leaves your video switcher until it reaches its online destination? And if you've covered that already, I'd love to see that video. Thanks.
So we are upgrading from a cell phone to a black magic pocket 4k. I just don't know what lens to get. The cell phone is terrible.... and we will address lighting issues after we buy the camera and lens. The camera will be 60 feet from the stage. Can you recommend a lens in the $500-$800 range for that distance? We would like a wide-angle view for worship and a more zoomed in for preaching.
Hello Ryland, question for you. If we are running HDMI cables to our cameras from the ATEM switchers. What HDMI brands do you recommend? Could we acquire any on Amazon or are we looking for specific requirements to give us the best quality when we run 1080p! 🙏🏽
We have them sitting on our FOH wall, which is above everyone's head. We do not have that band disabled, i will reach out to our IT guy to have it disabled. @@RylandRussell
Thank you again for a great video. We are upgrading our cameras this year and your videos are super helpful. We were using a wireless MEVO camera for a side angle until we just couldn't get it to work right. There was always some freezing of the image, the lagging, and sometimes it just quit working during the middle of the show. My next video is about the budget wireless options.
@@RylandRussell Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about a used G85 and a 35-100 IOS for handheld. I've been using an EOS-R and 70-200 f2.8 IS and it is a bit heavy and more expensive.
What video switcher do you use? We currently have the BMD ATEM 1 ME and are looking for something that will allow 1080p60 fromn the wireless transmitters. The ATEM 1me does not accept 1080p60
