Dude. I'm single with no kids and looking to buy one? You just sold me on it better than the sales guy I'm dealing with. Thanks for the video and i freaking love it.
Agree w everything but the G sitting in your garage looks way better than all that other stuff in your driveway. That will always be the case. The rest will always turn to junk. The G will keep chugging gas and hold its value.
My 2016 G63 was an absolute beast off road (by far the best off roading SUV I have ever owned and that includes the land rover) - that was one of the FEW benefits. Apart from that: The front space sucked, the cornering was abysmal, rear seats were like a prison cell. But what should we expect from a military truck? The other benefit: these guys are only second to tanks and hold their value EXTREMELY well. I was able to sell for 81K and upgrade to the 2020 and what do you know: With all the upgrades on tech, suspension and comfort, it is now the VERY BEST SUV I have ever owned (on or off road). Oh yeah: it'll get you the looks and more respect than any non-supercar on the road.
@@ikeben400”Uh work?” Such a helpful and positive response... I think what they actually wanted to know is a bit about your field of work or profession, which has enabled you to afford such a vehicle.
So I've owned one of these for just about 3 years now. We had Sahara and my wife wanted one of these without doing any research. We traded it in and she immediately regretted it. Long story short, I took over this car as a project and we got her an x7. We got it before covid for a great price and I plan on keeping it because it truly does keep its value, if you find the right buyer. I have a 13, g63 and the only difference is the size of the navigation screen. We got it for 71k plus tax. My whole fleet aside from the x7 are cars that maintain value My gripes with the car are as follows. The space sucks, it creaks on every bump, gets horrible gas mileage... but those aren't my major concerns. I've found rust under the windshield, and I've done just about every seal and gasket on the car at 60k miles which includes passenger valve cover, oil pan, and now my turbos are leaking likely from the couplers. Otherwise I've replaced cam sensors and steering dampener. But, with all that being said... once it became my project car it has totally stolen my heart. I've since put offroad tires on it and lifted it by two inches. I'm planning on putting some fox shocks and raising it another 2 inches. It is tremendously tall and menacing looking now and I feel like the king of the road when I drive it. Offroad guys love it, car guys love it, and it definitely attracts attention which feels good when you drive it. You begin to love the car despite its every day issues which adds to its nuance. In conclusion, family car definitely not. Project car... full send! It's definitely not a daily driver for me but I feel as though it's a future classic and a great car to have in the case of heavy snow or need to offroad. It's our backup family car thst I feel safe putting my kids in. If you have the money to buy one of thse instead of a jeep, land cruiser, or tacoma as a project it'll put a smile on your face.
They're great off road/project cars for sure and honestly the resale value on these is strong. That's crazy that you found rust by the windshield, do you live in the north?
The 2013 is nothing like the 2019+. It’s literally a completely different vehicle. The 19 forward is much larger, has better handling and braking, has more power, rides smoother and is more comfortable.

I wish that he would of covered the interior to see what if he has some of the complaints that you have, but you both make good points, the complaints that you have are definitely something to think about - for myself the Build Quality and the MPGs are things that make me hesitate, but I am a good candidate for this car because I don't have a family, I drive solo, so this car would work for me - well, assuming that I can afford one someday that is.
I bought a 2002 G500 in May 2022. I love it. It looks new, it's been 100% reliable and its worth more now than I paid for it. I don't drive far to work and I have several other cars that get better fuel economy for longer trips so its fuel use is not a big deal to me. That said, I've taken it on cross country trips from Chicago to Montana and from Chicago to Georgia to Texas and back to Chicago where it has averaged 15 to 16 mpg. Not great but still about the same as most pick up trucks and just a tad lower than what a boring Toyota 4Runner would get.

But we are on our way to Jack-in-the-Box for breakfast and when we get our order of 2 cokes we put our coffee cups in the door next to the bottle of water so our cokes can be up front and coffee cup available as we eat in our breakfast Jacks in the car. As a father of 4 under 10, it sounds like a used LX570 is the way to go. The G Wagon has always been my dream overland rig but it looks like ill be waiting until they are in college.
Seat posture thing is so real on these. If they allowed more tilting for the seat angle that alone would help a ton, add some leg support too and it would be great. It's a pretty bad driving position which is a shame, and such an easy fix.
I used to drive Jeep Wrangler and I replace it with 2013 G63 AMG. Good truck. I love it . Of course it is not Lincoln Navigator, but I do not need Lincoln Navigator, I get what I wanted.
About sitting I.m having same problem with my Volvo Xc90 I (2014). I.m 1,90 tall and it.s a very common issue on the SUV. The only "solution" is to lower the seat, then you will have your legs more extended... and the problem will be at your hip 😂. Did you try?
That's true of anything that's expensive but the G holds its value so well because many guys understand how well-made it is and how capable it is off road. The thing is an heirloom unlike any Jeep or Escalade. As for the ride, this guy should've avoided the AMG because it has much stiffer suspension, less wheel travel and larger wheels (which means less tire sidewall to soak up bumps). That's in addition to the solid axles front and rear which are built for strength not for a pillowy ride with the kids. Anyone who has a problem with the ride never understood the first thing about the vehicle in the first place.
absolutely agree with every single word u said, it's just a fridge with weels, nothing more, there is no charisma, no uniqueness, nothing! sell it asap and take a look on GLS!
I know why you hate it, but if you drive the newer G Wagon, you will change your mind. It drives soo much smoother and it feels like a modern car, like it should be
Had a sit in the newer G from 2019 and was highly disappointed. Sitting position was not nice neither was the comfort. Can only assume older ones are slightly worse .Same experience you have in yours. However i still want one , either one with the OM606 engine or the M113/K (for me the best Mercedes engines) . They can be had for 60/70k$ and you will not lose money if you decide it’s not for you.
This is the rich guy's fun SUV, This is the fifth or sixth vehicle in the garage for the super-rich that they probably have Rolls-Royce to carry the family around and go to drive through for ice cream. The G63 is probably only for towing stuff, go off-road or just a weekend fun vehicle for the rich people
Thanks for your honest review, it really helps my decision. I wonder, between this and a 200 series land cruiser, which is better and more reliable? Im thinking the LC but I could be wrong because like you said these were created to be military vehicles and go through wars
Land Cruiser 100%! I worked at a Toyota dealership and Land Cruisers are designed to last 25 years in a third world country without any issues or rust. That’s why you see Land Cruiser in Africa being used for safaris and not a Gwagon.
@@LextasyNation Gotchya, thank you so much for responding. I just hate that the 200 LC is so big, I like smaller vehicles. That's part of the reason why I like G-wagons, but I would rather be in something more reliable at the end of the day that can tow the large travel trailer I have.

Thank you for the content. I'm looking for a capable off roader and torn between old land cruiser or higher milage g wagen. I don't commute to work so gas milage isn't big concern. I am a little worried about all the computers and wiring in the Mercedes
It’s all about image. Nobody is off-roading these things, it’s soccer mom’s drive them around shopping in Beverly Hills and Greenwich. Can’t believe they’re willing to put up with all of the compromises to look “cool”.
I tried that version of the G-Wagon and had the same feeling. At that time, I drove a Range Rover, and the Mercedes-Benz salesman tried to convince me that the G-Wagon was a better drive than my Range Rover.
Bro next time before you buy car do little bit more research about car you are buying , buy something close to your preferences and buy something that can fit best to your needs and wishes, you clearly bought wrong car for your preferences and your needs and than you blame car bla bla bla, it wouldn’t surprise me if I see you making video about Porsche 911 and complaining about same things ( I got family of 5 and there in no space in my 911, what a stupid car!!! ), get your self Toyota highlander or Honda pilot, you complain to much about price (160k$) I’m sure there are even more expensive cars 200k$+ that fit your needs even less than 160k$ g class.
I laughed all the way through this. I watched Mercedes video of the new 2025 all electric G Wagon and I reckon they watched this video and agreed with every point made and put it into the new one. 😊
I have been in the market for one of these for a while now, though, I have friends that own them and I cannot get over how much more practical and comfortable my full size Range Rover is... Still though, want a G... But this video definitley makes you think
Thanks for the candid review...I've contemplated getting a pre-2017 G-Wagon, but I think I'll hold off. I currently have a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe, have had done 4000 mile road trips on it, and it's been really comfortable, even with solid front and rear axles. I think now, if I get a G Wagon, I'll wait a few more years and see about getting a 2020 or newer. I'd really like to get one and use it for camping and overlanding.
Take a look at the G55 AMG or G500. These are more reliable than the later G63 and way cheaper. The M113/M113k engine and the 5-speed transmission are bulletproof.
I think that what you are looking for is a RAM TRX or maybe a Raptor R because the G wagon is the Jeep Wrangler of Germany so its not exactly the dream road vehicle
One of the most entertaining car reviews I've seen, and a candid one too. Thanks you! I guess it'll have to be the GLS to keep my family and my own body happy.
The worst about this model is the noise The hood noise the dashboard background noises is killing Especially when u drive in small quite town u can hear all the funfair noise coming from fronts Others all good for me
This guy doesn't know what quality is. He's focused on aesthetic items but is clueless about the running gear and the frame. The thing is better built than anything else on the road. As for the lack of tech features it still has way more than I need or want. Some of us don't need electronic nannies to help us drive.
I’ll take one over a jeep.. way better on the road and can go off road too if needed. No death wobble. No leaking roof when it rains. No explosions. Actually offers value. I actually wanted a wrangler and it’s like I’m forcing myself to get one because everywhere I look it’s bad news. I don’t care about status. I care about quality. I’m actually pissed that I could be mistaken as a dude looking to show status if I ever own one. Because I could care less about that. If wrangler offered half the f what the GWagon offers then I’d buy a wrangler. Sadly they charge way more than what they offer. The whole purpose of a vehicle is to drive and wrangler made a vehicle that can’t drive properly on a paved road.
every thing you complained about as far as exposed and easy to take apart is why we bought one. it sounded like most of your issues were due to having it as a daily. We bought ours cause we have multiple cars and this just filled a purpose. some points you made i totally agree, some are cause you have a family, some are cause your a large dude. but overall i did not go into this vehicle thinking it was a luxury vehicle, it's a purpose built truck with some leather.
You should've gotten a Range Rover, full size that is not the little minion ones. I have both and Range Rovers have everything you complained about. Go test drive a 2010-2012 (L322) Range Rover 5.0l Supercharged if you still want some ruggedness but supreme comfort and soft suspension. Then try the later model 2013-2020 (L405) they're lighter, better handling and much more gadgets too. L322 is a better Range Rover L405 is a better car. I love my G63 for its uniqueness simplicity and capability.
I heard the Arabs in Saudi Arabia buy that G Wagon, prob the AMG version, some go crazy on their sand dunes all day, up the steep sand hill and if it flips over, roof or side caves in when the truck flips over or something, they just buy a new one and do it all over again. Apparently a disposable truck in Saudi Arabia 👀 lol
Every time I've seen one in real life, I'm shocked at how small they are at least in width. I would love one, but I have an old beater 2000 F150 4x4 long bed that I keep under my porch. It seems to be a better option in every way. MPG, room, width, handling in snow/offroad minus the issues you would have with length on narrow trails... Yeah, things break from time to time, and I have to fix them. It seems expensive when I do given it's market value in comparison to the costs, but it's probably way less than you spend on maintenance alone. I want to buy a dumb weakened car, but it seems you have to be particularly dumb to dump even $50-70k on a slightly older one. I can't believe the leg room is that bad. That's unimaginably worse than a 2 door wrangler I had years ago(maybe not the back seat, but honestly I'm not sure even there). I'm honestly shocked how these are seen in any positive light. I'm also shocked that any military would use them unless they are a nation of small people.
No offense but this car just seems very boxy and unattractive. I simply don't see the appeal. Am I the only person that thinks this car is kind of ugly?
This is by far the most honest review of a G-Wagen that I’ve ever seen. People never stop sucking up to this thing like it’s listening. I used to absolutely love these things… until I drove them… and I was so disappointed. It’s an extremely high quality Jeep Wrangler. That’s it.
@@LextasyNation Why do people buy them? I remember in slavic countries I lived in there were fleets of them driven by people who had max $450/mo apartments to live in - and no discernable jobs! Such a mystery across all decisions! Befriending them for years led to no further clarity into their decision making or motivations; I'm seriously baffled by Belarus/Ukraine/Russia, though some aspects I really enjoyed. Honestly it reminded me of living in "an older version of the matrix" (reference from the 2nd Matrix film). Clearly the Germans aren't going to be able to compete with Japan, but hopefully all of this G Wagon lust in Slavic countries motivates some local car brand to compete - and there is plenty of opportunity to do so!
I don't get it. You complain about "build quality" because it is easy to do your own repairs. You buy an AMG version of a tank of an SUV and complain about the gas mileage. You focus on stupid shit like where to put your coffee or phone when the vehicle was designed before people were running around with fast food drinks, coffee and phones. This vehicle was built for a very specific purpose that doesn't seem to fit your use case. Complaining about the $160k price tag makes you look dumb instead of making the vehicle look bad.

There is actually two more cup holders in the glove box once you let it down. Ha. So a total of 5 cup holders.
Where the side exhaust pipes?!?
absolutely agree with every single word u said, it's just a fridge with weels, nothing more, there is no charisma, no uniqueness, nothing! sell it asap and take a look on GLS!
I know why you hate it, but if you drive the newer G Wagon, you will change your mind. It drives soo much smoother and it feels like a modern car, like it should be
I need to try one for sure
You have to, i work for G-Class and I got to compare yours with the newer model, it really is a big difference.
Good review not for me. Ashville NC. Do you know Lake Junaluska, NC in Waynesville, NC?
I sure do
@@LextasyNation I lived there. I know the area pretty well.
damn...were you awake when you test drove the Wagon?
Sure was! Didn’t like it then either
Exactly! Like did you expect a Yukon?! It’s a freak G and is a compromised work of art!
@@RossEnzo My kids draw art all the time apparently... boxes.
@@LextasyNation I would love a review of a land cruiser if you have one or even just a video of your thoughts on it would be cool too. No pressure, just throwing that out there 🫡
I really think every suv that has solid axcels drive pretty much same way ruff won't drive like a car won't I never own one thinking about getting on I use to own a 2002 range rover and discovery 2 solid with solid axcels I never complain or wine I just gas them up and drive drive it
2019+ Gs are the best Gs compared to the old models. They upgraded almost everything. It’s more luxurious and drives way much better.
I agree
Sure buddy. Upgraded the price as well. Money is infinite right?
How do you know, James? Hope you didn’t swap your Bmw for a Mercedes 🗿
@@justanmpowereddude5021 through a friend who has one… i am a BMW die hard!
@@JamesXiii Ahhh I get you. You got great taste bro, I could tell from your profile picture. That's why I asked if you've now switched and fallen in love with the Benz instead 😆
Thank you for the content. I'm looking for a capable off roader and torn between old land cruiser or higher milage g wagen. I don't commute to work so gas milage isn't big concern. I am a little worried about all the computers and wiring in the Mercedes
Land cruisers are designed to last 25 years in a third world country and Toyota don’t make them anymore. Land Cruiser all day!
It’s all about image. Nobody is off-roading these things, it’s soccer mom’s drive them around shopping in Beverly Hills and Greenwich. Can’t believe they’re willing to put up with all of the compromises to look “cool”.
It's crazy how many people like these cars.
They are actually amazing off-road. Watch the videos of these doing badlands off-roading.
@@chrisloesch5854 gregs point wasn't that they can't do these things. But 99% of the time do not do off road things.
good entertaining video! Makes me laugh 😆👍 subscribed already 🥳
Thanks for the sub!
I love these. Rather have this then the new one
I tried that version of the G-Wagon and had the same feeling. At that time, I drove a Range Rover, and the Mercedes-Benz salesman tried to convince me that the G-Wagon was a better drive than my Range Rover.
Yo I was about to buy one with in a year . Now I am really thinking of this decision
just wait untill stuff goes starts to go wrong then you are run like the wind ...
Good review though. Honest !!! 👍🏿
That’s crazy it’s 50k where I live
hahha the flimsy hood, when I bought mine I thought it was broke. I guess they're all like that
yea I saw a used 2014 for 50k with less than 50k mileage. I want one too
Good honest review, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I have been in the market for one of these for a while now, though, I have friends that own them and I cannot get over how much more practical and comfortable my full size Range Rover is... Still though, want a G... But this video definitley makes you think
As someone that has owned 4 RR. Once you ride in a RR nothing else competes. Period.
U obviously do not believe in the upcoming zombie apocalypse, but trust me you guys will be safe in the G-wagon:)
the newer one has fixed a lot of the negatives u had bro might have to buy the newer one lextasy
I like mine, I put my phone between the handbrake and the center console
You think a Jeep Rubicon is comfortable? 🤣
I’d say stay away from amg ones for overlanding
The keyless entry is a big deal . I can hear the short patience in the man’s voice
Luckily, there are aftermarket solutions that give you remote start :-)
$900 gets you keyless entry and start with autostart using a mercedes key fob.
I think that what you are looking for is a RAM TRX or maybe a Raptor R because the G wagon is the Jeep Wrangler of Germany so its not exactly the dream road vehicle
I had a Ram TRX and miss it. Such a beast
You are right
One of the most entertaining car reviews I've seen, and a candid one too. Thanks you!
I guess it'll have to be the GLS to keep my family and my own body happy.
The worst about this model is the noise
The hood noise the dashboard background noises is killing
Especially when u drive in small quite town u can hear all the funfair noise coming from fronts
Others all good for me
I like that rumbling noise at low rpm. It's like a lion growl. I also have an LR3 , no growl there.
All the bad things you have mentioned is why we love it, period.
This guy doesn't know what quality is. He's focused on aesthetic items but is clueless about the running gear and the frame. The thing is better built than anything else on the road. As for the lack of tech features it still has way more than I need or want. Some of us don't need electronic nannies to help us drive.
These things are like the Toyota 70 series Land cruiser where Toyota makes 5x profit
You didnt mention the full story on why and who asked MB to create it… fyi this is not a soccer mom car, need a minivan for that ;)
First guy i’ve seen concerning about gas while riding an amg
😂 balling on a budget lol
You should've gotten a Range Rover, full size that is not the little minion ones. I have both and Range Rovers have everything you complained about. Go test drive a 2010-2012 (L322) Range Rover 5.0l Supercharged if you still want some ruggedness but supreme comfort and soft suspension. Then try the later model 2013-2020 (L405) they're lighter, better handling and much more gadgets too. L322 is a better Range Rover L405 is a better car. I love my G63 for its uniqueness simplicity and capability.
I will have the 2023 one by the end of this year 🎉
I heard the Arabs in Saudi Arabia buy that G Wagon, prob the AMG version, some go crazy on their sand dunes all day, up the steep sand hill and if it flips over, roof or side caves in when the truck flips over or something, they just buy a new one and do it all over again. Apparently a disposable truck in Saudi Arabia 👀 lol
I cant stand the fact that the car has no side pipes no way this is a g 63
Probably a G550.
Talk about wine. I'm looking at a 2013 for $55K 45K miles
You’re reviewing military style vehicle not S class , it’d be like comparing H1 with Impala
The reasons you like it ,are the reasons why it costs so much. Mercedes quality.
MERCEDES W463 THE FIRST AND ALSO SAFEST SUV IN THE WORLD 💣💣💣
Nobody has ever died in a Volvo XC90. Just sayin..
Military vehicle...
How would soldiers with rifles and other kit fit in it?
Good bye G-Wagon. Definitely will not miss you. ✌🏻🙃 can’t believe I used to say it was my dream car. 🙊
New SUV parked In The garage already
the new one is way better in every way they redid everything
Poor👌 people 🤦
No offense but this car just seems very boxy and unattractive.
That’s it.
A lot of the reviews are from people who borrow it for a day and they think they know the car. I actually purchase mine as dumb as that sounds lol
This is making me 2nd guess it . I like the prestige of the car . That’s it
I don't get it.
I’ve seen it around and wonders who had it
Give me a barebones vehicle that is indestructible, built to last and easy to maintain.
3:00 ohhhhh mannnnnn lol
Good Thing I'm single
they are expensive because ex soviets think they will make them look dangerous and buy them on 20 year loans :D
You can buy these damaged from Copart....95% of them have rolled over!
Stewie from Family Guy wohoos about G Wagen. How appropriate
Its my dream car and will be my first car.
Its just Mafia status thats why people love it😅
Should of got Escalade V for that money
That’s my next move
this is an older version
yes
Garbage 1920's G-Wagon. Buy a new model bro. This is a fugazi truck.
No matter what you say... It's still my favourite 😂
