The only person who actually TEST drove a G Wagon 1. Has amazing offroad capability. Only needs the right tires 2. In case of an accident, the car will notify the emergency services. 3. Has airbags for the legs, that is some next level safety 4. Powerful engine.Imagine filing that thing with concrete and yet it still move
Also, like any vehicle made in the last 30 yrs, the electronics were eventually what stopped it. Yes, computer controls are amazing, wonderful things, but that doesn't mean they don't add crazy cost/complexity/ long term reliability issues. Esp german cars, where some of the designs seem like engineers add things just because they can. Sounded nice when it was going full bore, tho lol. Full diff locks frt/rear and all 4, portal axles, good ground clearance make these things really capable off rd. They're so expensive tho, part of the reason why people use land cruisers and old land rovers for the harshest, most remote places in the world. Cant have your life depend on not getting water near the battery in the trunk.

I don't think most people understand how impressive the quality of this car is. The engine runs under extreme conditions with after-market tuning and maximum load. Cement in the car in the limiter is also part of it. This is German engineering at the highest level. Nobody can really tell me that the tin can from musk can keep up in any way. Incidentally, I'm not the biggest fan of destroying things that many people will never be able to afford in their lifetime. But here I was really impressed by the outstanding quality. Excuse my English, as a German I don't speak it very often.

It's not as durable as the Hilux or Land Cruiser. WhistlinDiesel's G-wagon broke two axles. Nothing on the Hilux broke. The other downside of the G-wagon is cost to repair and maintain it.

Thirdly, to compare a G-wagon in it's rightful form, you would need another luxury ride to do so. Only then could you talk about durability, axles and whatnot. In regards to Toyota Hilux and the likes, they were built for that kinda terrain and yet, G-Wagon still beats it in some.

one of the main reasons its so impressively durable is because the original body and chassis were built for the military back in 1979. they then kept the main idea of those components with the bulky and strong parts while changing the interior and engine, but still very impressive.

Also, like any vehicle made in the last 30 yrs, the electronics were eventually what stopped it. Yes, computer controls are amazing, wonderful things, but that doesn't mean they don't add crazy cost/complexity/ long term reliability issues. Esp german cars, where some of the designs seem like engineers add things just because they can.
Sounded nice when it was going full bore, tho lol. Full diff locks frt/rear and all 4, portal axles, good ground clearance make these things really capable off rd. They're so expensive tho, part of the reason why people use land cruisers and old land rovers for the harshest, most remote places in the world. Cant have your life depend on not getting water near the battery in the trunk.

I don't think most people understand how impressive the quality of this car is. The engine runs under extreme conditions with after-market tuning and maximum load. Cement in the car in the limiter is also part of it. This is German engineering at the highest level. Nobody can really tell me that the tin can from musk can keep up in any way. Incidentally, I'm not the biggest fan of destroying things that many people will never be able to afford in their lifetime. But here I was really impressed by the outstanding quality. Excuse my English, as a German I don't speak it very often.

What on earth would belong to that section and would require cheap maintenance 😂? Secondly, the only reason a G-wagon is used in these tests is to push it to its limit, farther than the makers have and to see if it's tougher than the landmark they had set. Thirdly, to compare a G-wagon in it's rightful form, you would need another luxury ride to do so. Only then could you talk about durability, axles and whatnot. In regards to Toyota Hilux and the likes, they were built for that kinda terrain and yet, G-Wagon still beats it in some.

one of the main reasons its so impressively durable is because the original body and chassis were built for the military back in 1979. they then kept the main idea of those components with the bulky and strong parts while changing the interior and engine, but still very impressive.
