Review of vertizontal bullet hell Giga Wing. This is available on Switch as part of Capcom Arcade Stadium Pack 3. For more Switch shmup news, reviews etc, follow us on Twitter: / nshmups
This is my favorite game to play on Arcade Stadium, and probably the one I'll try to 1CC first. It's just a shame it suffers so much from input lag, to the point it is noticeable even to a casual shmupper like me. Hope it'll be patched in the next few months. Great review as usual, thanks!
I notice no lag since I downloaded it the last week ago. Perhaps updated? It's worth mentioning that it may not be input lag, but the way the game was designed even initially. The version I'm playing feels identical to the Dreamcast version I have. Anyway, I love this game. Already put in about 7 hours over the week. And bare in mind I've not much time on my hands these days AND I've been playing this on the Dreamcast for almost 20 years now. Having it on the go is a dream come true.
It has improved, yes, but it still suffers from input lag (this game in particular). It performs similarly to the DC version (a laggy port) and you're clearly used to that, so it feels perfect to you :) The MAME rom plays better, that's for sure. I'm loving the game in this collection but the input lag makes some dodges harder to pull off than necessary (especially if you try not to bomb to get bigger scores). The game is fantastic anyway :D
The input lag is a disappointment I've experienced. I feel like I can't get the timing down on the reflect barrier so at times I get hit when I felt I released it. Other than that, it is a fun game.
Interesting that Shmup Junkie says in his review that the Dreamcast version also has 6-7 frames of input lag. Really, the lag is my only complaint about this game and I'd still rank it and Progear as my two favorites from the Capcom Arcade Stadium shmup lineup.
In an old interview with the people of Takumi, they stated that Giga Wing is a shooter aimed to beginners of the genre: it has a pretty gentle difficulty curve, to the point where is pretty easy to hit regularly the third stage with one credit even for an average player like me. With a bit of practice I reached the sixth level without losing lives. You should try it, it looks harder than it actually is. Plus it's a lot of fun :)
@@ShmupsOnSwitch It's not. The arcade version only has like 2 frames, if that. MAME emulates it pretty well at 2-3 frames depending on MAME build. The Dreamcast version felt fine to me when I tried it (6-7 frames would be quite noticeable, like Guardian Force amounts of input lag). The DC version is still a bit harder though due to the lack of slowdown, which particularly affects Stage 6 and 7.
One day... Honestly, I haven't played it enough yet. I want to be able to really sit down and spend some time with it before doing a review. I will get round to it eventually for sure.
The amount of lag, fps drops and stuttering in this latest Capcom collection; is by far the worse they ever released. I really hope they patch it. What a disappointment to re-buy most these same games again, hoping for better screen filters, screen size options, input response and features; only to find the performance is worse than previous collections released this generation; or even those chinese bootleg handhelds or hundreds of plug and play consoles on the market.
This, and the scanlines are absolutely horrible: actually a bunch of uneven lines thrown over the screen, without any regard of resolution or pixel size
I bought the third arcade pack for this game but man, Progear is taking all my time right now.

We need Giga Wing 2 on Switch.
If only this game had the voice acting from the Japanese Sega Dreamcast port...
In the top 3 favourite shmups of all time for me
I recently picked this up & it being my first time playing it i am having alot of fun. Thankz for this👾

My 3 year old nephew loves this game on the Arcade 1up.

Yeah, I saw that. I've never played it in the arcade - I wonder if it's just a laggy game.

Also there was a pretty good version on psp via capcom arcade emulation I remember playing all the time back in the day.
I still play the Dreamcast version. Great game.
Wish they'd release Giga Wing 2 for the switch
Maybe one day...
@@ShmupsOnSwitch I'd do anything to be able to play it I do have Giga Wing though on the Capcom Collection

@@gardhul the scanlines are great. Good job capcom, keep doing scanlines like this.
