Within 30 seconds of playing, I knew this is the absolute best shmup I’ve ever played. I’m loving every second of it on switch. Masterpiece of a game. 10/10
I gotta say your review and positive message of "vote with your wallet" really got to me man, I hope you and your channel get a lot more subscribers because your content is fantastic. I really appreciated you mentioned Esp Ra De and Rolling Gunner as your other "must buy" switch shmups and the fact that you categorized the port quality.
I already knew that I wanted Crimzon Clover on Switch, I just needed to know how the game runs on the system. Needless to say, about 3 minutes into your video, I just had to hit pause and go download it from the eShop right away! I’m delighted to add this stunning shmup to my ever-growing Switch collection. Now all I want (nay, NEED) is *Zero Ranger* on Switch and, as a digital collector, for the fabulous *ESP **Ra.De**.* to release on Western eShops! Please, CAVE, localise this game! Oh and while you’re at it, bringing *Battle Garegga* to Switch would also see me 'voting with my wallet'. Thank you for another quality review and please keep your Switch shmup videos coming! I’m a big fan of the channel 😊
ESP Ra de on Switch Runs very Well. The Psikyo Collections sadly have some Delay. Mushihimesama, Espgaluda2 and Ketsui on Switch are also recommended but that's only a dream.
Definitely did not expect this release - absolutely one of the greatest bullet hell shmups ever made. I'm having a blast with it all over again on Switch. Love it. My only point of criticism would be that I miss the demonstration videos you can get as DLC for the Steam version. Totally nonessential content, but those were quite helpful to me when I first tried to understand the systems in the game way back when I first came across it. EDIT: Man, I really wish the port of Esp Ra.De had been released in Europe as well... At some point I will import a physical version, but I'd love to have easier access to another of my all-time favourites.
Since I watched your review, I bought it in the Eshop and not one day passed whithout, at least for a couple of rounds, playing that masterpiece. I just started to explore all the different modes besides original. Fantastic game. Thanks for your review.
This game is quite a pain to set up on other machines which is one reason why it doesnt get much playtime from me. Now that it's on Switch, I'll probably put over 10+ hours in a week lol. Good review as always
Very true. I've had the same issue. You can get it to work, but it's just a bit of a hassle. Big part of the reason I like playing on Switch so much. Guess I'm a pretty lazy guy!
Love this game! I still need to rotate my Vewlix screen to player.. and well, now the screen in the living room too, if the Switch version allows for that :)
I’m used to shmups like Stellatum and used to it’s slower pace and precision shooting and a little less like the arcade type. With that said this thing is like a shmup on steroids. Lol. Not really my cup of tea but to each their own. You almost seem invincible. All about the points I guess.
Another great review. Have you thought about doing more playlists? You could do a recommended shmup playlist so we can easily find your current top 10 or top 20.
As much as I love this game as well, I think it would be nice to mention how brutal the Arcade modes are. Especially since some patterns are impossible to survive without bombing *coughcough*TLBArcadeBoost*coughcough*
I'm surprised there is no video about Azure Reflections. The best homage of Touhou. Edit: I just saw your list from #25 to #11 video and it's there, but man... as you say, it's so underrated is sad.
Yeah, I've mentioned it a couple of times, I think, in those sorts of videos. I've been meaning to do a review of it, actually, and there's not much else coming out in the next few weeks so who knows? Watch this space...
@@musclemark2710 one full day after and I still haven't bought it.. Don't think I can wait much longer, I feel the urge to mark the leader boards with my shitty score NOW! :)
No problem. I like a lot of The Electric Underground content, but that video was especially fascinating - some really interesting approaches to think about that had never really occured to me before. Keep it up, man!
@@OniLordMiki physical you own the game, download you are effectively just leasing the licence. What do you do if the game gets removed from the e-shop and for whatever reason you no longer have access to your original purchase🤔🤔🤔 hmmmm
Good review, small detail but the game does have a small story. Only in World Ignition’s steam trading cards though, nothing important but it has a little bit of lore for the bosses and what’s on what’s going on. Doesn’t matter much though, but it’s there I suppose and I’ve never seen anyone really bring it up (although that’s understandable)
Hey, thanks. That's really interesting to know. I have the Steam version but never bothered looking at the trading cards or anything. Will check them out.
oh yeah, kinda late but i noticed there's also some random messages that show up near the start of stage 5. no idea what they mean but i think that in each version of the game they're actually different? they dont make much sense and sort of seem like a conversation between the player ship and the stage 5 ex boss. not really important and im pretty sure they only show up in 1cc runs but its somewhat interesting and i dont think theres any list of all the possible messages or anything.
There are random messages, yes. I've seen at least half a dozen of them myself and they always feature your username somewhere in them. Honestly, they're pretty bizarre and they almost seem like they're from a random text generator sometimes. My favourite is: "Do you exist to save the world? Or to break?" Cool little feature, though.
Lmao yeah, they’re borderline nonsensical, in a fun way though. Currently my favorite is “When multiplied by all road has been closed, where do you go?” solely because I still have no idea what it’s even trying to say.
I thought I heard this was on Switch, but I can't find a physical copy, anywhere! No listings on e-bay, Amazon, or Gamestop. I was sure I'd at least see over-priced mark up ones on ebay! But no!
No physical, I'm afraid...yet. Given how many shmups have been picked up by limited release publishers, I'm sure this will get a physical at some point.
Everyone always suggest me games similar to touhou, crimzon clover and cave shmups but I just cant get into something similar to them. Are there any shmup(either pc or switch) that is more similar to Striker 1945, Suguri or Gunbird? I also have problem with games that flicker like Aleste.
The Vasara Collection is quite similar. It's not quite as good as Gunbird or Strikers 1945, but it's often on sale for a very, very low price. Angerforce Reloaded is a modern release styled after Gunbird. Again, not as good as the originals, but still pretty fun.
I am pretty new to shmups and bought this without looking much at gameplay. Holy Cow, this game is insane. How am I supposed to do this, also I find the Joycons a bit to fiddly. But I guess you need to get used to it.
Type-Z is in the game. I actually don't know the unlock condition, though. Probably will be the same as on PC. Hopefully someone else can confirm for you.
I know it can sometimes seem like that if you don't play the genre much, but trust me, making these longer would wreck them for their core audience and then, basically, the genre's dead. They have to be this short to be played in oe sitting and keep that all-important arcade DNA.
I genuinely mean this when I say I wish I could get as excited about these types of games as the rest of you are, but somehow I just feel like bullet hell shmups all kind of look the same and play similarly. What am I missing? Is it just that I don't really enjoy dodging all the bullets or that I just don't find the core gameplay satisfying?
I get you. I personally don't like the whole Euroshmup thing, but there are others for whom that's their favourite subgenre. Bullet hells are definitely not for everyone and there's no point trying to force yourself to enjoy something you don't. Tons of great classic shmups on Switch too!

If this plays as well as Ignition on PC. Then I would say this is the best (Vertical)SHMUP on Switch.
