I love you Mark for bringing these Dreamcast treasures to our attention. Just upgraded my broken hifi to a 2.1 sound system. GIGA WING would make a delightful din with a 30watt subwoofer. What's with Seaman? Do you have recurring dreams about Seaman? Great review. DC reviews make me a happy bunny.
For those of you who are planning on getting this game, get an arcade stick to go along with it. The feeling of being able to reflect myriad of enemies bullets by holding and subsequently releasing the attack button at near death situation is absolutely exhilarating.
I played this at the arcades numerous times ;D Didn't know that it came out on Dreamcast though O_o?! I'm gonna have to hunt down a copy of this now ;D
Nice Review Mark and Happy 10th anniversary to the dreamcast i just finished watching your review, screwattack's top 10 Dreamcast games, now i'm watching IGN history of Dreamcast and later i'l play one of my all time favorite RPG game Skies of Arcadia Legends and i also fond out a new 2D Sonic is coming in 2010. SEGA's last Console truly is ever lasting.
this was more addictive and rewarding to play than gigawing 2, but man.... did you HEAR the soundtrack to gigawing 2? its AMAZING! in fact the whole theme to gigawing 2 is just.... unnerving, but great at the same time
I don't know about the original Giga Wing, but I have GW Generations for the PS2 and man, it's really something else. Too bad it doesn't have those characters and some sort of a plot, but it's still great.
It was a two-button arcade game ported to the Dreamcast later on, so it's not surprising the graphics don't really compare to standard Dreamcast games. The music's not great either, but the gameplay's solid.
DC is IMO the best arcade in a box ever - I still have my beloved SEGA Sports black model connected through RGB SCART - Gigawing is ace, I prefer Ikaruga and Border Down though overall...
nice video. i'd suggest doing a review of Gigawing2 for dreamcast, it has smooth 3d graphics, interesting soundtrack for a shooter, and even more digits for score (at least 20~30 digits as i can remember).
I don't see how something looking reminiscent to something else can be backwards or wrong... "Backwards" isn't possible because them being alike doesn't really go one way or the other. "Wrong" doesn't seem quite right because they look like they share at least some features (there's pretty much no denying that if you just look at the footage...). In any case, it looks really fun.
Giga Wing 1 is a pretty good game, but it takes a long time for it to load the levels on the Dreamcast. If you just can't stand them, play it on MAME. Mars Matrix, however, should be definitely played on the Dreamcast
I just picked up the Japanese version of Gigawing & GW2 today. Sweet games! Im torn between GW and DUX. Both are really hard and fun! I need the HD cables!
Man! This was an old post! It's from 2014! For the record though, I did go on to have Gigawing be one of my all time favorite shmups, so I guess that question is answered on which one I liked more.
I haven't really seen it being done all that much, or at least not in this style. Then again, I grew up with shmups like Tyrian, where the stories happened in-between the levels, so...
i need help...is there ANYWHERE i can get an A/V cable for my Dreamcast? not any rigged up way...but an official A/V cable. i don't want to have to run such and such through a such and such...
Mark, that score is the size of a telephone number if you were dialing it long distance. How does it go now? Ah yes! Country code, area code, then telephone number! =P "Hello? Yes, I would like to speak to Hajime Satomi please?" :)
There is also a cheat to unlock another ship, it's the best ship, purple, laser stream beam, constant flow and its fast as fuck, its called The Stranger, its the true end boss of the game and attached to 2 mini bosses on 2 different levels.
by the way, 11.7 quintillion points is the highest recorded score on Giga Wing. Mark's 296 billion points is just a drop in the bucket, which is freakish. You know you're playing Giga Wing when your score is more easily spoken in scientific notation. 6.2x10^23
Hey Mark (and every other viewer scrolling by the comments)! I'm not sure if you know about it or not,, but I got a PAL promotional version of this game, (complete with manual) and I really can't find any info about it ANYWHERE! I can't be the only one on earth who has it. I really have been looking and looking, going through old listings on Ebay, google image search etc - nothing. I'm guessing this copy could make me a millionaire?
"That's not a score, that's the distance between stars in feet."
Awesome.
Damn Capcom was like the flagship company for the dreamcast they made so many games for it great games too
20 or 30 bucks. God, I kick myself for not getting into Dreamcast before the "Great Dreamcast Price Inflation" hit.
Start collecting for pr-modern consoles. Pick up the uncommon games for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and DS. They will be like Dreamcast in 10-15 years.
@@DavidH373 lol, checking on to say those games are already now inflating stupidly too!
@@opaljk4835 Whelp, it has been 4 years! xD
I love you Mark for bringing these

Great review. DC reviews make
me a happy bunny.
great game, gotta love the old sega/capcom arcade stuff from back then
For those of you who are planning on getting this game, get an arcade stick to go along with it. The feeling of being able to reflect myriad of enemies bullets by holding and subsequently releasing the attack button at near death situation is absolutely exhilarating.
This game looks ridiculously awesome. I love shooters like this!
2021 and I still enjoy your videos for over a decade!
I played this at the arcades numerous times ;D Didn't know that it came out on Dreamcast though O_o?! I'm gonna have to hunt down a copy of this now ;D
Mark your the reason I started getting Sega Dreamcast games. Thank you

I love 2D Bullet Hell Shooters they just look so freakin awesome!!!
Giga Wing is my favorite of all the shooters I've played on any Sega console.
this was more addictive and rewarding to play than gigawing 2, but man.... did you HEAR the soundtrack to gigawing 2? its AMAZING!
in fact the whole theme to gigawing 2 is just.... unnerving, but great at the same time
Simply awesome. Anyone who likes shooters must play Contra ReBirth.
I don't know about the original Giga Wing, but I have GW Generations for the PS2 and man, it's really something else. Too bad it doesn't have those characters and some sort of a plot, but it's still great.
10th aniversary for the Dreamcast!!!! yaaay! :D
The DREAMCAST is AWESOME!!!
Seaman is the best video game review ever made by the Game Room
It is around 125 bucks now. I opted for Gunbird 2 complete for less than half the price of Gigawing.
Dreamcast might actually be the only console worth buying.
Mark, you rock!
I'm loving these shooters.
I love this shooter. I used to play it for hours on Gametap.
It was a two-button arcade game ported to the Dreamcast later on, so it's not surprising the graphics don't really compare to standard Dreamcast games. The music's not great either, but the gameplay's solid.
Child memories
DC is IMO the best arcade in a box ever - I still have my beloved SEGA Sports black model connected through RGB SCART - Gigawing is ace, I prefer Ikaruga and Border Down though overall...
cool reviews and games!go CGRHD!!!!
nice video. i'd suggest doing a review of Gigawing2 for dreamcast, it has smooth 3d graphics, interesting soundtrack for a shooter, and even more digits for score (at least 20~30 digits as i can remember).
Also exclusive to the dreamcast you can use the Stranger plane after you unlock enough cumulative score
IKARUGA is also AWESOME!!!
In any case, it looks really fun.
the song play at 5:28 is 'the Ytse Jam' by Dream Theater!!!
well pretty much hahah.
I love these kind of games
You know what? I'm gonna play one of these shooters! I never got a chance to play a real shmup before.
This guy is too good! Im proud to be named Marc
Giga Wing 1 is a pretty good game, but it takes a long time for it to load the levels on the Dreamcast. If you just can't stand them, play it on MAME. Mars Matrix, however, should be definitely played on the Dreamcast
i remember playing this on the arcade with my neighbor and finishing it XD
I just picked up the Japanese version of Gigawing & GW2 today. Sweet games! Im torn between GW and DUX. Both are really hard and fun! I need the HD cables!
Man! This was an old post! It's from 2014! For the record though, I did go on to have Gigawing be one of my all time favorite shmups, so I guess that question is answered on which one I liked more.
Gunbird 2 was another great Dreamcast shooter
It's CLASSIC game room for a reason guys.
@poisonhedorah Sorry, was getting mixed up with the second one, don't think that was released in the UK.
I still own this game. Had no idea that it's worth around $40 on ebay. Holy crap.
Great game! But why do I have the feeling that the sega saturn could pull this game off just as good as the sega dreamcast?
It.might be close but theres so much on screen it might a stretch. And i loved Saturn
Dreamcast has some fantastic shmups
You should try playing some of CAVE's later shooters. THOSE are bullet hell.
One of best games ever made
totally gonna get this game!
love this game! do a review of gunbird 2 for deamcast its simillar but i think much better!
298,698,213,230 points. Not quite two telephone numbers stacked together but close. Happy birthday Dreamcast.
I haven't really seen it being done all that much, or at least not in this style. Then again, I grew up with shmups like Tyrian, where the stories happened in-between the levels, so...
Im guessing Dreamcast 2 will never be launched... those 9/9/09 vids are still awesome.
This game looks cool am looking 2 get R-Type final for PS2 only a few bucks is it any good???
Woot for Dreamcast anniversary! 9/9/99!!!
I think I've bought at least 10 games that he's recommended, Mark you're going to make all of your fans go broke!!!
Hey Marc, nice review, awesome game!
If you can't pronounce your Highscore, it's:
Twohundredandninetyeightbillionsixhundredandninetyeightmilliontwohundredandthirteenthousandtwohundredandthirty. ;) (for real:)
I always wanted to know the name of this game since I played it in a bowling alley when I was 10. So happy I own a DC and definitely gonna buy this
i just might get myself a dreamcast for the hell of it for my room whenever im bored of 360
Giga Wing 2 is also on the Sega Naomi.

F5 rocks! So does Classic Game Room!!
lol, I love the comment about the scores
I saw this game back at my local arcade, one of my favourite shmup. The Reflect Barrier is really unique
You can emulate this perfectly on the psp now I play it on the train every morning
2:55 O_o "Mark, what is the power level of that jet?"
Get one. That's exactly what a DC is
good at. Bored of my 360 go play
some different styled games on my DC!
Dreamcasts are extremely EXTREMELY cheap, I picked mine up with 13 great games at play n trade for $62.00. :)
i have this game for my dreamcast i remember buy the my dreamcast on march 27 2000
i need help...is there ANYWHERE i can get an A/V cable for my Dreamcast? not any rigged up way...but an official A/V cable. i don't want to have to run such and such through a such and such...

i was just watchin that this morning haha
I think you should check out the DC exclusive sequel. Giga Wing 2.
this is a really good shooter, but my favorite is Dodonpachi
I've got the US version, wasn't reelased in the UK, plays fine on my UK console. Not a bad game.
Review Contra ReBirth man. It just came out for Wiiware.
where did you get the official soundtrack
for GIGA WING
what button uses the Reflect Force thingy? thanx
nice but if you can try to do more recent games for reviews because not many people have an old Dreamcast ect.
Two hundred and ninety eight milliards six hundred and ninety eight millions two hundred and thirteen thousand two hundred and thirty points.
Mark, that score is the size of a telephone number if you were dialing it long distance. How does it go now? Ah yes! Country code, area code, then telephone number! =P
"Hello? Yes, I would like to speak to Hajime Satomi please?" :)
Awesome soundtrack.....
Mark made buy a boxed NES. Now I´m on my way to buy a dreamcast.
Shit. But it pays off in the end.
There is also a cheat to unlock another ship, it's the best ship, purple, laser stream beam, constant flow and its fast as fuck, its called The Stranger, its the true end boss of the game and attached to 2 mini bosses on 2 different levels.

Heh, fuckin' awesome dude! I've only played the sequel, but it was also pretty awesome.
Two hundred ninety-eight billion, six hundred ninety-eight million, two hundred thirteen thousand, two hundred thirty points!
are there similar games for windows?
Happy Birthday Dreamcast.
wow i love it !
@Retrogamer71 yeah i fucking love my dreamcast. if only it had backwards compatibility with the saturn... still, an awesome console
Man, this guy sure loves Seaman :D ... oh wait D:
That red guy you were playing as looks like hes flying a giant space lobster!
So, what about Zero Wing now?
This game is the true definition of "Bullet-Hell".
it would be awesome if you review some of the Top Gear saga titles !!!
Hey Mark (and every other viewer scrolling by the comments)! I'm not sure if you know about it or not,, but I got a PAL promotional version of this game, (complete with manual)
and I really can't find any info about it ANYWHERE!
I can't be the only one on earth who has it. I really have been looking and looking, going through old listings on Ebay, google image search etc - nothing. I'm guessing this copy could make me a millionaire?
Any game that you can get 298,698,213,230 as a high score is awesome! Thats almost 300 billion points!!!
like music at end of the review.
keep the DC reviews a-comin!
Reminiscent of the Touhou games, what with the little bits of story right before an end boss.
Yeah, ive played it soo damn much, I can pass the game without dying once now. maybe sometimes.
unwantedshit wow maximum respect the furthest I got on 1 credit was the level before last the one with the pyramids
The scores on Marvel vs. Capcom 2 are ridiculous, too.
acaulty i like the artwork
