    ChromeOS 118 began its roll-out this week and with it came a nice handful of Chromebook Plus features for the entire list of devices that meet those Chromebook Plus specifications. For those non-Plus devices, the updates aren't much to talk about this time around and this ChromeOS 118 release was clearly aimed at getting all the Chromebook Plus models up to speed and moving forward together.

    To my mind the last chromeOS feature needing to be added to make chromeOS really useful is the ability to custom map mouse buttons for mice that have more than the default buttons like Logitech G604 etc.

    Google differentiating Chromebooks like this is stupid. If my machine can run it, give me the feature. Man my next portable machine will be a Windows machine again. No way am I going back to a chromebook that goes unsupported when Google decides it does.

      This is exactly what I'm thinking. I like ChromeOS because it was lightweight and can run on just about anything. But creating a class system of specs like this for basic features is not the way.

      Uh. What are all talking about? These are nicer features and you don’t need spend $1500 to get them. CB+ is available on $400 CB’s. These are features that take more horse power form devices so Google is trying to make it easier to shop for CB’s that have the spec’s to be able to do them. Those who don’t care about these features won’t need a CB+ device. If you don’t get it, then you simply are someone who doesn’t e need a CB+ device.

    If Google want to compete on a higher level, they need to get hardware manufacturers to add software for Chrome OS. E.g. the new Elgato Prompter comes with Windows software and Mac Software, no Chome OS software. Blagmagic provides software for Windows and Macs, not for Chrome OS. The list goes on.

  • @dominicamoakobaah9516

    I think google should make Chrome OS a full Linux distro to make competitive for power users

    • @vladimirdelima2519
      @vladimirdelima2519 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I don't think Google is aiming power users now.
      I would think it's trying to get students who will grow with chrome OS in mind. And regular users.
      But of course Google could allow power users to unblock flags or could turn on a " power user mode".
      Actually, when you turn on Linux in chrome OS, it's already kind of a power user mode

    I think it's a shame that my Lenovo Flex 5i 13 inch Chromebook meets all the requirements for Plus, except that it has a 720p webcam. and that's why I can't enjoy the plus features. And that despite the fact that it once had a Chromebook premium label, meaning it was more than the Plus Chromebook a few months ago. i3 processor, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, 1080p display, only the 1080p webcam is missing. That's kind of frustrating!

      Your Flex 5i doesnt meet CB Plus at all.
      You only have an 11th gen CPU and there are MANY reasons why Intels 11th gen is not included.

Is a Chromebook plus a mouse a Chromebook plus? Is Core i3-N-305 of the12th gen or not? Will it be a waste of time making do with a non-plus Chromebook? I have an i5 PC so I can use MS office but my N5030 8GB Chromebook does most things just fine. Got mine yesterday and am really happy with it. The only thing, it does not have background light for the keyboard. Called Asus and had the feeling they were not pretty sure, whether it is like that or if it is a problem with the device. They came up with the answer, that the white version has it, the grey one doesn't. (I have a grey one). Can anyone confirm that it is ok, that my chromebook does not have background light for the keyboard? Also in the official spot for that device it has a bottom note saying that backlit keyboard is optional. Thanks a lot.

      Well, let me answer your question.
      For the first one you can certainly install android applications on chromebooks because basically the system is almost the same as android (but remember, you can only install applications through the play store which is usually already built-in from chromebooks) for other applications such as custom applications or special applications from outside you need a little "linux space" to install them.
      next is quite easy, you may be able to distinguish it through the logo on the front (cover) of the chromebook, there is a special chrome logo to distinguish it.
      And finally, of course you can use as many chrome extensions as you like because basically chromebooks optimize the performance of the chrome browser and are lighter than you might think. (unlike most existing windows installers)

      Good question. The intent is to support until the AUE triggers an end to updates.
      However you ask a great question. Some new feature in the future may require much better hardware and Google won't want to wait for all models that can't support it to go into AUE. My guess is it could get messy,

    What if Chrome comes with a native GUI framework to promote cross-platform development?
    If a browser like Chrome comes with a native GUI framework, that would be great. Web browser is already a cross-platform GUI framework, but the performance of web-based apps sucks. The browser is on every desktop and mobile OS. If it comes with a native GUI framework, that would change the state of the cross-platform ecosystem and the software distribution method, especially if the mobile browser also makes it happen. Most of the apps we use daily are not deep OS applications but just a UI with some data processing logic. If Google makes it happen, at first, they should make their Google Office suite native based on that. Chrome OS will benefit from that as well. Maybe it has better performance than Android Runtime on mobile OS.
    This is not feasible on mobile OS for now, but on desktop OS, it is. For example, I don't want to install Microsoft Office on my PC, but other Office software, like Lib Office, is not that good. If Google Docs runs like a native app, I would use it. It's like a browser plugin, but it's native and can be launched alone. Those OS whose GUI software ecosystem is not as good as Windows would all benefit from this. If everybody knows, there is a stable, unified GUI framework API on all OS. Software for a specific OS like xxx for Windows and xxx for Mac will be less and less.
    Google can make it on their Chrome OS first. It would be a “WPF” of Chrome OS version. By the way, put it into the Chrome Browser package. Whether developers use it or not, everyone knows that there is a stable, unified, cross-platform GUI framework on every desktop.

    they need to make keyboard cover to cover keyboard while laptop is in flip mode. and they should give atleast 150gb rom bidefault in chrome book. they should leave Celeron processor. now chome book will become more and more heavier as time passes. plus they should start making only touch and type with pen hybrid laptop at affordable price. i mean to say no more traditional laptop. focus on hi bread laptop. like 2 screen laptop. like they did with phone. again it must be affordable. otherwise it will new microsoft deo device. price matter a lot to middle class customer. and success and failure don't depend on rich class. its middle class who use products every day , day and night like office photoshop etc etc. they need to get rid of this plastic button as soon as possible. 2 screen , battery on both side with motherboard in 1 side etc etc... its my thought.

    I would love to see all chromebooks starting as chromebook plus.
    I mean, no more cheap chromebooks, as they are partly responsable for degrading chromebooks.
    And it wouldn't be a problem since at this price point, a chromebook plus delivers so much more than a windows device.
    By doing this, Google would be able to give even better experiences to the users of this so underrated OS.
