Very good improvements, for sure ! BUT, in a world where photos and videos are king, when are we going to be able to explore Google Photos from within the Files browser?
10 year support life is great, I love chromeos - but across 10 years these device will go thru 1 or more batteries. Not confident manufactuers make batteries easily replaceable. Same for emmc vs nvme - emmc limited life.
I love the idea of chromebook plus. Since i got my thinkpad 13 chrome book in 2017, the android playstore and linux integration into chrome os has increased the functionality of the system so much.
I'm surprised Google keeps making more Pixelbooks. They could do well if they included OLED displays and their latest Tensor chips and AI features. But Google tends to overprice their Chromebooks. They should offer both a standard and a flagship model. A new Chromebook priced around $500 seems reasonable, not $1500.
I watched this video 3 months later. However the goal "Simple and yet powerful computer for everyone" caught my eyes and made me think a lot. It's true that Chromebooks are great simple computing device and with the availability of Android and Linux apps it has become even more powerful. However Google will never achieve that "for everyone" goal. The only way to reach that goal is to create ChromeOS virtual machine that can run in Android vm (thanks to Android Virtualization Framework). That would bring desktop grade OS to Android phones and close the digital divide and truly empower "everyone". Not everyone has a laptop in the developing world, but they have a smartphone (they can't afford to have both). ChromeOS vm on Android would help students in those countries doing their school tasks on just one device!
No talk about improving the Linux support (Crostini) of ChromeOS. 😑😑 Many people buying Chromebook for their low price without knowing the hassle of installing Desktop apps. And IT guys get scolded for ChromeOS's fault. Please improve Crostini and add Linux App Store.
@@neroetal Many Linux app don't have a simple Deb file. Like, Libre Office installer is divided into 19 Deb files and users still have to put code in the terminal to install them properly. And most Deb files are not up to date. Firefox just recently started updating Debs properly. Writing terminal code to install apps is not possible for most people. They get angry. A simple store front will improve the situation greatly.
We NEED being able to install APKs with a single setting instead of having to put the whole Chromebook in developer mode. We also need to be able to disable the startup of specific Android apps. And in addition all Chromebooks with a x64 chipset should have a 64bit OS. My Chromebook has a 64bit chipset and still has 32bit ChromeOS. Come on, it's 2024 already FFS.
The way I see it Google has clearly shifted its focus towards AI data(center) DL crunching and somehow forgot what basic ChromeOS consumer needs and is looking for. So let me clarify it for u what I think u should do with the ChromeOS: 1. Stop unnecessary separation of the ChromeOS Flex and merge into single dev group under ChromeOS. 2. Create FREE, downloadable (only Google account required) general purpose (GP) ChromeOS installation capable of running standalone or beside other OS (multiboot Windows, Linux, MacOS?) on the 99% x86 and selected Arm based machines (currently Qualcomm's X-Elite/Plus) and with the full support of Android Play store ecosystem (native on Arm). 3. Develop your own Arm (Tensor chip?) or x86 based flagship Pixelbook to lead "premium" Chromebook Plus line followed by the selected Chromebooks OEM models which will receive special care and support to be distinguished from the rest of the GP ChromeOS machines with of course full Android subsystem Play Store support (native on Arm). 4. Deliver tighter integration and optimization of the AndroidOS features inside ChromeOS so there's minimum difference between them almost like they r both one OS with only difference in the GUI. Android is hugely popular so ChromeOS must logically build on that and offer best desktop Android experience on the market. 5. Expand Chrome OS capabilities beyond being just a "dumb" schoolgirl's netbook so it can become people's no.1 favorite Linux based machine with advanced features like installation of the approved/supported Linux subsystems besides Debian (Fedora, Arch?) or multi kernels with capability of PC Win gaming through Proton layer and Steam (games r still the most popular apps and Linux gaming is on the rise) - this will make ChromeOS machines even more popular (FREE promotion)! You're welcome!😎
When do i get desktop shortcut? Sharing clipboard between chromeos and andriod is a hit or miss. Nearby share is terribly slow. Some good old chrome app were gone forever. Frequently reboot from sleep for no reason. Please focus on this problems before introducing new things
When will Google License ChromeOS the way Microsoft does for Windows? The current Chromebooks don't have the Specs I'm comfortable with, plus I want a Custom PC utilizing not only High End Hardware but Peripherals and its own Monitor, not an All-in-One. Not interested in using ChromeOS Flex as it doesn't have the Native functionality of Google Play Store among others.
My child's Chromebook is supervised by Family Link. Unfortunately, Linux is disabled, and I can't find a way to enable it. This is a pity because I can't install Linux apps or IDE to teach my child programming. I hope Google can fix it.
Well, I gave a tablet Chromebook Lenovo duet Snapdragon 7c, 8gb ram to my boy when he was 10yo without Family link. I've been supervising him very closely and also I've been teaching him how to use it properly. Now he is 11+ yo he is very good in Linux command line (console), python, C and he is coding his first 3d sandbox game in Android Godot 3 . I know my son is a kid like millions more, easy to distract, sometimes lazy sometimes without interest in coding. That is why he has a bicycle, skateboard and Nintendo switch, etc. Chromebooks have become something flexible and powerful. If your kid is ready, let him be free with his hardware. Don't restrict him/her, guide him/her . That is my suggestion.
This was cool. Google please. Bring back the Pixelbook Go with a laptop tier Tensor chip.
Yes! A thousand times, yes!!
If google actually listens to their customers, they would be working on a new pixelbook by now!

Extremely helpful finally somebody came up with the idea of the Chromebook badge yeah that's been driving me insane and I'm new to Chromebook ❤️🌴
Great work guys. Mark is inspiring to watch.

Maybe Tensor G5 (which is rumored to be the first fully-custom chip made by Google) will be the first Tensor chip they put in a Chromebook?

I thought the Debian sideload is adequate lol .. for me it worked quite well though ram limitations is still haunting us

DESKTOP WIDGET PLEASE !!
if we can do it on our phone, why can't we do it on a Chrome OS?? We got a huge space for widgets.
