It's about time you did this :) This really transforms the Aquila! You might want show to how to create a bed mesh level and also how to add start code to the slicer so it retrieves the mesh bed settings after saving in Aquila of course..
@@3DPrintSOS Every time I power off my Aquila, I have to go back into Alex's firmware and turn on "Leveling Active". Is there a way to make this always on even after a power cycle?
Thanks! This worked flawlessly. The thought of bricking my printer was daunting so I was always afraid to do this. I updated my firmware alongside you in the video. I appreciate your work.
Thank you so much for the help and detailed instructions. Just wanted to add a tip if anyone was struggling with this. I had an off brand SD card that was 4 gig and even after following your instructions to a T, it still would not complete and give me the check mark. I had to use an entirely different SD card and then it worked. If people are still having problems just try a few different SD cards to see if it solves your problem.
Thank You for all your videos!I This was one issue with my Aquilla that was very scary.I reflashed the firmware yesterday following your video. It worked perfectly. One of the first things I did to the printer was change out the fans.Coffee coming!
Thanks for this video. Didn't know that custom firmware was an option until I found this! Had some trouble getting the printer to update but a quick format of the SD card did the trick. Keep up the awesome content!
Thank you for the step by step tutorial. I am deeply appreciative. Just bought my first 3D printer (Aquila) yesterday and am having to troubleshoot bed leveling (made easier by the firmware from this video).
About to put mine together this week. Had it for 3 months in box.. just waiting to build and watching everything you got!!! After seeing Tom's Vid last week I' ve been looking up New firmware. Perfect timing! And can't wait for more content on this firmware. Thanks !
First of all, thank you very much for contributing these videos to the community that we have recently acquired or are about to acquire AQUILA printers !!!! I want to contribute my experience when updating the display, I could not do it in any way, until I read the instructions provided by Voxlab where it said that the MicroSD card should be formated at 4096bits !!!!! And holy solution !!!! I hope I can help another like me who was unable to update the display !!!! Thank you very much and greetings to all!
Thank you very much for the video. Was at first struggling but on windows 11 it changed the DWIN_SET to a shortcut, so i changed that and it worked great thank you
Installed as per your video and the upgrade went very well. I had a particular error with the original Voxelab firmware, that seems to have gone away now. Many thanks
That thermal run away happened to my original aquila, I didn't realize what happened at first lol and didn't realize how scary it was. Watching that video finally made me update to Alex's firmware. It's sooo much better.
Excellent as usual Feddor - great instructions. It's pathetic for these issues to continue to exist in machines 2020/2021. Flashforge/Voxelab should be ashamed.
Happy to see you guys have a safe printer now, Jyers FW is legendary, so many features the vendor couldn't/wouldn't be bothered to include on the printer.
If you do end up with an H32 machine, you can just update to the latest firmware from voxelab. They have fixed the bug in the firmware. Alex is also working on. A firmware solution. So, no worries.
@@3DPrintSOS Sorry one more quick question if you don't mind. I have come across on ebay used and refurbished Ender 3 V2s/Pros for £140, sold as far as I can see by the manufacturer's UK distribution/repair centre. They are used items returned within the 30 day return period, and any faults rectified. They carry the usual warranty a new printer would have. This seems a good deal, what do you think of this versus the Aquila?
Installed and printed the new LCD bracket and firmware, 1000% nicer then the original thank you very much and to Alex that wrote the firmware. nicest upgrade to date.
Got my first printer about two weeks ago. Aquilla X2 N32, and have just been having a hell of a time getting the bed level, it's just a never ending cycle of twist (the knob) and shout (at the bed). I was going to get a leveling probe, but it just seemed difficult to install and then I'd have to load Alex's firmware blah blah blah. After seeing this video, I decided to load Alex's firmware with the manual mesh just for the thermal protection. WOWZERZ, now I get the power of the probe without the probe. Well I guess I am the probe really. And I second the request for a video on how to use manual mesh properly and a run down of the other features of Alex's firmware.
Hey wanted to say thanks for making this. I just got a voxelab aquila x2 to work along side my creality, and this video helped me get a newer safer firmware onto the voxelab. I only noticed it at first because octoprint gave me a big warning when it found no protection on it.
Just did this firmware update today and man you made it easy to follow ! I thank you again sir ! I've done all the modifications to my X2 so far by following your videos ! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙌🏽
@@KSa-ld7cp there should be a sticker in the top off your printer, under the build plate that says either N32 or H32, you will need the corresponding firmware. Then just follow the same instructions in the video.
@@KSa-ld7cp maybe retry doing it, and follow each step very carefully, including renaming the folders, otherwise your machine will not know what to do with the files. Do not fast forward any of the video, I would recommend doing each step as it comes up in the video, then pause it, complete the step, then move to the next step. I also have the N32 version and it worked perfectly on my machine. 👍🏽
One thing you didn't mention or if you did, I missed it, is to write down your movement configurations. I had changed my steps per mm for my extruder because I changed out to a dual drive, and it didn't save my steps per mm after the flash. Good thing I had it written down. Thanks for the great video, now I have a safer Aquila!!!! :)
Printer came early, assembled it and oh boy is this machine amazing! So happy about my purchase. Thank you for the wonderful work you do on this channel.
I just think it was really unfair of Tom to say it was an issue with the Aquila and for him not to mention that the Ender 3's had similar and worse issues. I had two Ender 3's that had no thermal runaway from stock! Fantastic video as always buddy. Keep it up. ❤️
The bltouch bin files are for different amount of probe points, and high speed or low speed probing. So 3x3 probes 9 points, and hs, makes the probe stay deployed during probing, which is a little faster.
Hey there. I was so excited to see your video. I have a question however. I have the original Aquila so I did exactly what you did with the downloads, putting the first bin into a folder named firmware (all lower case) renaming the DWIN_SET (Voxelab Red) to just DWIN_SET. Formatted the card Fat32 with 4096. put the card in the slot on the scree assembly, plug it in and up comes the original Voxelab menu. I've repeated this three times. Same result. Two folders on the freshly formatted card: firmware and DWIN_Set. Please help!
@@3DPrintSOS Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I figured out the issue finally. The card reader on the screen is very iffy and by pressing and holding the card into place once I turned on the printer it finally updated! So are there any lessons on here for using the mesh leveler? I'm pretty excited about that and I love the vertical screen. Already printed and installed the mount.
Oh awesome! Glad it was simple. I bet by the time i reply you have already figured it out. But head to auto level and let it do it’s thing. Then make sure you go to zoffset and set a proper height. Then make sure you hit save. Once you do that, you’re set.
Hey thanks for the video. Edited this comment if you see something different. I was trying to fix something but got it solved. Thanks again for all the videos! Super helpful!
I'd like to know the difference between manual mesh and default. I'd also like to see a rundown of all the features the new software has. We know it has thermal runaway protection, but what other cool things does it have?
It’s likely just normal leveling with no mesh. Yes there are TONS of features. I really wanted this vid to focus on install and fire prevention. But I plan on doing a deeper dive. There seems to be a bunch of interest.
So I have a BL touch so this is how I learned it but within the software you can level (aka z-offset) different points. if you don’t have a bl touch but it makes a mesh like it does with the auto.
@@3DPrintSOS I think I have the same aquila and octoprint is telling me I should update my firmware ! It looks like I should do exactly what you did in this video but I want to know why you chose 3x3 manual mesh g32. What are the others and should I care about them at all ? Is there a document that explains what each is ?
Octoprint might always tell you that on the Aquila. Depends on the firmware. Manual mesh let’s you make a mesh ontop of your bed kind of like an auto leveler would do except you do manually. 3x3 is the points on the bed. The more, the more accurate the mesh but more time consuming. The others are BLTouch which is an auto leveling sensor you can install that makes a mesh for you using a probe and another firmware that is just regular old leveling. Completely manually.
When I ordered my Aquila I found it on Amazon for 160. Wife said get it and I did. But after I did I went to look on TH-cam for reviews and I found your channel right away! And I watched it before I did my first print and got my bed set and level! And I printed the tool box! It came out great! And now I am doing the firmware update and your incautions is making this process a breeze. I just want to know I have the same printer that you have in the video! How did you get the lights in the print head?? I want that!! LOL Great Job!!!
@@3DPrintSOS so something I have found out with this firm ware. The aquila x2 loses its ability to restart prints after power outages. Who do we report this too and get it back? How can I get the orginal firmware back?
Great Tutorial!!! I will say this, after flashing firmware multiple times, you do not have to remove the firmware folder. When it installs the firmware, it deletes the .bin file from inside the folder. I just keep dumping a new firmware into the folder when needed.
@@3DPrintSOS I totally understand. I was running Alex's firmware when I had a hot end issue and went back to stock and back to Alex and back to stock making sure it wasn't a firmware or board issue.(turned out to be a faulty thremocouple and a bad heat break)
anyone else having problem with display installation? i follow all steps, but my display ends up messed up and cant read any thing off of it. it moves between icons, and it seems to have two layers of english and Chinese text over each other and its unreadable and unrecognizable.
This happens when the DWIN files failed to install. Make sure you are using an 8GB SD card and double make sure you set the byte size to 4096 or it wont work. So you are seeing basically seeing new firmware with no graphics files.
Outstanding like always , Fedor ! I ctually like my horizontal screen.well bad luck I guess on y part. Still...I have my machine now 2 months and its working non stop....never had an issue with the temps...might be related to the newer processors .I dont know . Hopefully everybody is safe now!
I got to the same reasoning but I can't get my hands on an original ST32 version board to test it. I think that the current chips availability constraints made Voxelab change to another chip and they didn't do their homework in the rush to get to market and keep production going.
I have just gotten the Aquila myself and for my grand Nephew. I am trying to Mentor him on these things and will definitely recommend this channel to him. One problem I am having is that the display will not update. I only get a red screen. Would the SD format be an issue if I can't make it 4096 block size under FAT32? It is the only thing I can't do because it is not an option in my windows 10 format command. The firmware update appeared just as you showed in your video.
@@3DPrintSOS Problem solved and an explanation of what it was and why. I was trying to use a new SD card that is Class 10 video grade., These can not be formatted even manually for 4096. Took my SD card to the Geek Squad people to see if they could do it and they tried but failed and then explained why. Came home and took the card that came with the printer and backed it up to the computer, then formatted it and the option to do it at 4096 appeared for that card. Formatted, then loaded the files back to that card and the upgrade of the video worked flawlessly. So sometimes the latest tech is not the best tech to solve our problems. Getting a bunch of 8Gb cards cheaply may be better that getting video grade cards. Just saying. Thanks for the info, you may have specified to use the system SD card and I missed it , however I think a little more about it may be warranted for those of us that don't understand the why of things.
True but this is just the way it is when you’re trying to save some $$$ over a premium printer. What’s interesting is I hear even the “premium” brands have all kinds of issues the community has to fix.
Bryan’s TH-cam video on manual mesh bed levelling using JyersUI which looks the same as The Alex firmware, takes you through the steps of Manual bed levelling on a Ender 3V2. I tried it out on the Aquila and is has worked perfectly, I would like to give a big thank you to all you guys for your great tutorials on 3D printing.
Are there any videos out there that give an in depth guide to this firmware, i want to see what i can do with it and how to use it. Thanks for the great videos! Keep it up.
I'm loving the videos! one video idea: how fast you can print on a "stock" vox lab aquila printer with .4mm nozzle with PLA. maybe even showing other hot end sizes as well, maybe even show some cheap upgrades that can greatly increase print speeds, show comparing the quality. just an idea!
Great videos. Just got an Aquila for the family and working through the growing pains of owning a 3d printer. Couple of general questions for the printer: 1) the middle of the bed seems to be a little bit lower than the 4 corners as I go through the leveling process. Would you recommend adding aluminum foil (as some suggest) to remedy the issue, and have you discussed this in any of your videos? 2) I'll probably upgrade the firmware after my 'Benchy' finishes printing but I was wondering if there wasn't something I should be doing to have print time estimates more accurate in Cura for my Aquila. Thanks and I look forward to your upcoming videos!
are these the same steps that would be required for the X2 as well? your vid is super clear and easy to understand so I hope the steps are the same lol
@@3DPrintSOS yay, then if all goes well tomorrow or monday I will be following the guide as I am going to be installing an abl on my machine and software is the more confusing part of it for me, thank you again for the great guide
@@muzicpro3089 Im not sure the numbers but check the voxelab website’s download section. They should have the latest for each of their machines. Just check your sticker on your X2 to find the right chip you have. N32 or H32. If you have no sticker, you have a G32.
idk if you will see this but i did this and let it sit for an hour and i never got a checkmark. Now every time i turn it on it just sits on the voxelab logo
Hey. I see them all! Hmm. Did you make sure you have the right firmware for your chip? If so, make sure you format the card correctly. You shouldn’t have to wait long at long. A few seconds at most.
The sd card must be 8 or 16gb and have to use Windows to allocate 4096 byte size or it won’t work. The second thing is make sure you are using a .bin file and not a .zip or .rar
Thank u my man worked great. Question..after the firmware and screen are updated and the folders are removed from the SD card...do you put ALL the files that you copied? From the SD card originally back in to the sd?? Just making sure there are no files that cannot be in the SD once turned on. Thanks again!
No. Unfortunately, the PRO is entirely different. It uses a proprietary board, screen, and firmware. You cannot change it. Check out my videos on the PRO, including the shorts.
@@3DPrintSOS Im trying to roll one of my machines back to stock, but found my after the install the SD card is no long working. im getting "sd init fail" is there someway to turn the sd slot back on?
Sounds like your card was corrupted. Have you tried to reformat it using your pc? These cards are super low quality. Luckily 8 and 16gb cards are extremely cheap.
@@3DPrintSOS that was it! so strange, that card worked everywhere but my printer. thank for the quick reply. whats the best way to donate to the channel?
Hi There, Well, Maybe this problem you told us about with the run away over heat seems I think what had happened to my printer? The company keeps asking me tons of different questions and asking me to do this test then another one and over again. I think they just don't wish to fix my printer by sending out a new main board even though I did a test on the Aquila they asked to do where I changed the wires over from the power block of the hot end to the power block of the bed heater and the try to heat them up like that? Nothing happened I has zero heat on both as I already told them after seeing that both the hot end and the bed were not heating up when wired as normal. I had to buy a new hot end and thermistor and heater cartridge and fit it in place of he original as that had some much melted plastic encasing it that it even had the hardened plastic as I told them in the screw holes and I could not get the thermistor un-tightened and the heater one either. So I just brought the new one and fitted those that'a as I told them when the system stopped powering up the hot end and the ed? But yet again they still telling me to do another test of the pins of the power blocks and the thermistor plug on board & the bed one on there? And to use a multi-meter to test the pins, u not what setting to set the meter to? I never used a multi-meter before as I only brought it. So I have to install this firmware update as soon as I can after all this damn testing and checking that the company keeps asking me to do and they keep asking or the same information over and over again in their emails to me? I not impressed with their service to me. really getting a pain as though the printer being out of action is not bad enough.
It’s definitely a challenge to trouble shoot a printer via email. Without seeing it even I have a hard time fully grasping the issues you’re having. I know it’s rough to have issues like this. Mostly they are due to a tiny QC issue or installation or operation error. So they have to figure out what to send and why.
@@3DPrintSOS Hello.. Well, what a time I had with this new main board I got from flashforge which is to replace the one I got with the printer that failed I think to the now known temperature thermal run away you were told about with some of the Aquila's? I got the new board quickly in 3 days which is good, However the new hot end Thermistors I ordered took 3 weeks to come! So for the 1st time I had to replace the main board of a 3D printer, I took many photos of the wiring into the main board and added notes to the picture of the board i the back of the paper manual. I started on Saturday morning. Then I found the fact that the display unit ribbon plug on the board end was plugged in But also the plug was glued in place with allot of that glue used in those heat guns in DIY? I can understand them worrying about the ribbon cable plug there being pulled out of the port, But really it does have a semi-tight locking effect when inserted. Lucky for me I have a modelers magnifier unit on a arm with lighting as I did scale models awhile back. So super slowly and carefully I had to cut and lift off the big amount of that semi-clear eat gun glue off the outside and top edge of the port. Took about 15 minutes as it was very hard to get it unstuck without damaging the board, I kept my fingers under the small nail scissors used so it did not touch anything. Slowly and carefully removing the wire plugs from the main board and then took out the board. I put the new board in and screwed it in with the 4 screws then slowly making sure now to do any damage I one by one re-plugged in the wiring plugs. I checked all the plugs were in right and where they should be, Then when I went to wire in the wires for power I found the new thermistor white plug was not the right size for the one on the board! The Thermistor plug was a 3 holes wide plug and the board was like the others there a 2 hole plug? So I checked out the video I had of yours I copied where you show how to take the wires out of the small white plug and move them over to another one? Very hard to do even though I have good hand skills with small parts ( i.e. like I did scale models before remember ) After allot of fiddling I got the wires out and locked into the small 2 hole white plug I had from the original system thermistor. Now after all that, time to re-cable up & attach them with cable ties and fix those and re-screw the cover etc. Okay after 3 hours of this hell, I got it all redone up and now came the firmware upgrading about the new anti-over heating and better bed mesh software. I did the same as you did. ( picked the red text one you had ) The 1st screen showed the white background with the thin red bar and the green check mark. The did the next one with the sd card moved to the back of the screen unit. did the power and the screen went solid light blue then red. Turned off the printer again and removed the sd card ad re-fixed the back cover of the screen display unit. And at long last turned the printer on with all done. And then a problem, Nothing came up on the screen except light black solid with no figures no text at all? So turn off printer and checked the main board found the black plug of the display unit looked maybe out a little of the port? So I re-plugged it in again. and left off the cover in case I needed to check it was in again? I turned on the printer and the screen was on okay, but no text just light black. I redid the sd card stuff again. The screen showed the 1st and 2nd right stuff of updating. Re-fitted the covers and made sure the ribbon cable for the display was not pulled or caught as I turned over the printer back to normal placement. But now still a light black screen no text no figures. So re-updated the firmware a 3rd time in case of a problem before! And no luck no text no colours no figures no nothing just the light lack lit up screen? So any ideas why this is not doing the screen as your other video showed?
@@3DPrintSOS Hi there.. I used your choice in the video as My original board was the same one as yours in the Aquila as I checked it then. I thought this would just be the same board again as the original was just with the now coloured plug ports on it where as the original one just has all white plug ports on it? So how do I check what chip number is on the board I have now so I can get the right firmware? Thanks again for your help. 8 )
Just tried to update my Aquila, screen now is just backlit black, followed all the steps to the T. now trying to load the original firmware from the Voxelab site.
Heck to make sure you have the sd card formatted correctly. Then if that’s true then check your processor. Let me know what it says and I can confirm which model you have
@@3DPrintSOS I followed every step to the T. Formatted the SD card and everything, went back and looked at the 3rd party site you listed and went and looked at his original firmware update he posted and the chip set on my Aquila is an H32 and is not supported, only the other 2 chips are supported. So beware of the chip in your machine, one size does not fit all.
Well I’d still worry a bit. Haha can never be too sure! LOL. Lots and lots of differences. Too many to list. Haha Makes the printer into a total powerhouse. I’ll have to make a video!
Hello Fedor . I am new to 3D printing and have been watching your videos for several months now, I purchased an Aquila and your videos have been great help in installing basic inexpensive upgrades. Now this one is quite a bit more important so I will be doing this one soon. I have been thinking about installing an all metal hot end, if I should do so would I be able increase the max temp in this firmware at a later date, or would I have to reinstall?
Awesome. Hmm to get a higher temp then 260 you would have to compile your own version of this firmware. It’s not too hard actually and the source code is easy to download. Search TH-cam for a tutorial on how to compile Marlin and I bet you can get it done.
I've got the CR Touch installed, which bin file do I want now? Oh, and I printed the bracket for the sensor without any issue too, came out beautiful! :-D
I installed this firmware but had an issue with my printer and needed to return it, sadly no instructions on how to uninstall the firmware and had no luck finding any examples on forums.
Hmm. That’s very odd. Typically it’s just a matter on putting the stock .bin into a folder called “firmware” and the screen files in “DWIN_SET” and doing the same process. It may have been because you need to reformat to 4096 byte size.
Hi! Thanks for a great tutorial, I had some problems and finally found an other person on Reddit who had the same: I have a stock Aquila N32, got it 2 weeks ago and only the beta software of Alex flashes. So far so good, but if anyone else has the same problem that the flashing of the printer never finishes, try the Beta, otherwise follow this video.
hi, thanks for the really cool videos, really helpful. i am getting one of these printers soon. will be my first. will i have to do the firmware or have they sorted the problem. ??. thanks again
@@3DPrintSOS was very excited about doing this to the machine - my Ender3v2 already runs JyersUI and I love the manual mesh bed levelling feature...but it's a real shame to lose the horizontal display. Really liked that with the Aquila. I'll mull it over for a few days...will probably do it though as mesh levelling is just too awesome to pass up....did you print a part to mount it the other way up? Here's hoping they eventually do manage a horizontal one!
@@3DPrintSOS yes I did, so some how after doing a couple time it worked, also switch brand of memory card. So idk what the deal was. Thanks for replying back tho! Great vids
Thank for your videos. I still dont know where can i get the information about the chip type of my Aquila. How do you know what type of chip is on your board?
What about H32 machines? I just received my Aquila S2 yesterday and I assembled it today. I am currently printing the Toolbox. However, watching your videos as well. Is there any info on if the S2 H32 version is having issues and needs a firmware update? Thank you Fedor
The h32 model issues were solved with firmware. So just make sure you have the latest and you’re good to go. Also, 3rd party firmware is in beta and works well. So things are looking good.
Fedor are you planning on reviewing the S2? It is Direct Drive, I printed the Toolbox yesterday and it did a really good job. I am looking forward to printing plenty more stuff come up. I would love to try and do some upgrades to this machine, but I’m too new to it to know yet what to do. Also wondering if the Extendable option would work on the S2… need to do some research on that. Thanks for your comment about the H32 chip being already firmware solved. Dan V
@@3DPrintSOS I will check out the XL Kit and see if it something that I might get into down the road, I am still just trying to learn how to 3d print, and also learn this machine. Any tips for slicers, filament and other tips for the Aquila S2?
Really helpful video. Many thanks for posting. I want to change filament part way through a print and the Voxelab firmware does not support this as it does not full recognise a code pause. Following the code pause you have to select pause on the screen to allow resume and this moves the head back to the model, deposits a blob of filament on the model and then reparks the heads. Do you know if Alex's firmware will support a pause/filament change?
Hmm. I’ve done pauses on this machine several times using “pause at layer height”. The issue I ran into is it only working at layer height .2 Otherwise, it misaligned when starting the next layer after pause.
@@3DPrintSOS Thanks for the info. Odd, when I do it it gives no option to restart on the screen, hence my issue. I am running on old firmware, maybe updating it will fix my issue.
TRY TO REFLASH THE FIRMWARE. THIS WAS A BUG IN EARLIER FIRMWARES. SHOUKD HAVE BEEN FIXED NOW. ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR THERMISTOR ISNT LOOSE ON THE HOTEND. CHECK THE SCREW AND RESEAT.
Ok so I loaded this firmware in I got to say I like the changes it has done. The manual leveling feature is so much easier. It moves through 9 locations on the bed and allows you to make changes to each part as a micro change instead of moving the wheels underneath. I'm getting perfect 1st layers using prusa slicer with this. Amazing changes to all aspects of the program.
My friend, thank you very much but I have an Aquila S3 and believe me I have already tried all the n32s and none of them make me able to hit the home plate in Z, what am I doing? I'm going to cry.
I am in the market for my first 3D printer and it was looking like it would be the Aquila, mainly due to price and I liked the horizontal screen better. With this firmware changing the orientation I have to rethink this now, would an X2 be a better choice? Also, Alex's firmware looks to not have been updated lately, hopefully support continues.
Thanks for the video, helped me realise there's custom firmware for the X2, but some feedback, you could've cut this video down about 80%.. no need to tell people to right click in order to extract, or to drag from folder to folder, etc. I'm sure 3d print users would know these fundamentals.
1st of all, thaks! i saw the vid, yesterday and was actuly quiet worried. 2nd Is there a way to turn the display sideways again? I realy don'0t like the vertival layout
Currently there is not. Alex's firmware is a fork of Jyer's FW for the Ender 3v2 which has a vertical display hence the need to flip the Aquila's display.
That’s correct, not yet. It sounded like one may be in the works but it’s quite involved. And technically, even voxelab went back to vertical with the x2
@@3DPrintSOS I have a feeling we might not ever see a horizontal version unless someone else picks up the ball and forks one as it's all based on Jyers Ender 3v2 firmware anyway. Lot of work for sure. It will require practically a complete rewrite of the display firmware. However there is a decent chance that at some point we might see a touch screen version supporting Creality's E3v2 touch screen upgrade since it's pin compatible with the Aquila main board. The building blocks are already in place as Jyers said his version up until a few rev's ago was using the protocol designed for touch screens but then switched to the more appropriate version.

It's about time you did this :) This really transforms the Aquila! You might want show to how to create a bed mesh level and also how to add start code to the slicer so it retrieves the mesh bed settings after saving in Aquila of course..
Probably a good idea. By the way the firmware already gets the mesh before the print. ;)
@@3DPrintSOS I second a vote for a bed mesh level video. Thanks for all of your time that you’ve dedicated to this printer.
@@3DPrintSOS Every time I power off my Aquila, I have to go back into Alex's firmware and turn on "Leveling Active". Is there a way to make this always on even after a power cycle?
Try selecting it then going to “store settings”

Voxelab is completely broken as of yesterday. Couldn’t get my printer to work with the 3D Touch.
Your video helped me out a ton. Thanks man.
Thanks! This worked flawlessly. The thought of bricking my printer was daunting so I was always afraid to do this. I updated my firmware alongside you in the video. I appreciate your work.
Awesome. Glad you found it useful.

Yes, that is a crucial step. Otherwise the printer doesn’t know what to do. I made sure to mention that in the vid. :)
Thank you very much for the video. Was at first struggling but on windows 11 it changed the DWIN_SET to a shortcut, so i changed that and it worked great thank you
Glad it helped. Yeah the shortcuts thing is annoying!
Installed as per your video and the upgrade went very well. I had a particular error with the original Voxelab firmware, that seems to have gone away now. Many thanks
Thanks for the information/help/howto in this video. I just bought the X2 and now I have that firmware upate installed. Thank you for all that you do.
Awesome and sure thing. Glad I could help.
That thermal run away happened to my original aquila, I didn't realize what happened at first lol and didn't realize how scary it was.
Watching that video finally made me update to Alex's firmware. It's sooo much better.
Glad it didn’t cause further damage.
Well done, gives me alittle piece of mind when I have to walk away from my 3d printer for more than few minutes
Dude. After Tom’s video I’m stoked you made this. Nice work.
Toms vid is an eye opener to the industry that people pay attention. In the long run, it’ll help the consumers out big time.
Excellent as usual Feddor - great instructions. It's pathetic for these issues to continue to exist in machines 2020/2021. Flashforge/Voxelab should be ashamed.
Creality still send out machines with no thermal runaway protection enabled from stock. All manufacturers should be ashamed of that! 😉
Man, this was seriously an extremely helpful video!
Happy to see you guys have a safe printer now, Jyers FW is legendary, so many features the vendor couldn't/wouldn't be bothered to include on the printer.
Really opens it up. Gotta love it.
Tried this in 2024. It worked before, but now when I insert the sd card into the printer to install the firmware, it does nothing. Any ideas?
What a kind service you have offered these owners. Good job

Haha true. Then you gotta make vinaigrette!
Oh good... I loved your review of the Aquila, and was about to press the button when I saw Thomas' rant...
So now I can proceed!
If you do end up with an H32 machine, you can just update to the latest firmware from voxelab. They have fixed the bug in the firmware. Alex is also working on. A firmware solution. So, no worries.
@@3DPrintSOS Great, thanks. Love the channel, new sub. Totall new to 3D printing too, and can't believe how affordable these printers have become...
Isn’t it amazing. Gotta love it.
If you are willing to troubleshoot them, that’s a great deal. :)
That was a super useful tutorial. Well done and thank you. Greetings from Arizona.
Glad it was helpful. :)
Installed and printed the new LCD bracket and firmware, 1000% nicer then the original thank you very much and to Alex that wrote the firmware. nicest upgrade to date.
Yes, it’s so good.
How many days has it been
Hey wanted to say thanks for making this. I just got a voxelab aquila x2 to work along side my creality, and this video helped me get a newer safer firmware onto the voxelab. I only noticed it at first because octoprint gave me a big warning when it found no protection on it.
question, did you have to update the firmware on the screen for the X2 as well?

What firmware i need to download for my aquila X2?
@@KSa-ld7cp there should be a sticker in the top off your printer, under the build plate that says either N32 or H32, you will need the corresponding firmware. Then just follow the same instructions in the video.
@@dirtymikendaboys i have the n32 version and downloaded n32. But my machine just power on normally. I did every step on the video. :/
@@KSa-ld7cp maybe retry doing it, and follow each step very carefully, including renaming the folders, otherwise your machine will not know what to do with the files.

Cool! Im doing the update today im waiting on a bl touch since my bed is a bit warped.
I just think it was really unfair of Tom to say it was an issue with the Aquila and for him not to mention that the Ender 3's had similar and worse issues. I had two Ender 3's that had no thermal runaway from stock!

Thanks Fedor for getting this out so quickly.
I love how they basically made the interface screen an Ender 3 v2 format. Now I might actually get one of these as a second printer.
Hmm. You’re doing the printer first, then the screen? Is the card you are using a 8gb card?
Super helpful!
yes!!! i've been waiting for you to do this.
:)
Honestly I have never had my machine run this smooth.
Funny thing I just did this last night and was hoping you had video of it XD
Again thank you so much for the very helpful videos!!

Great Tutorial!!! I will say this, after flashing firmware multiple times, you do not have to remove the firmware folder. When it installs the firmware, it deletes the .bin file from inside the folder. I just keep dumping a new firmware into the folder when needed.
Oh nice! I was trying to be cautious, but very good to know.
@@3DPrintSOS I totally understand. I was running Alex's firmware when I had a hot end issue and went back to stock and back to Alex and back to stock making sure it wasn't a firmware or board issue.(turned out to be a faulty thremocouple and a bad heat break)

I’ve been using mine for 8 months with no issues. But for the piece of mind...
Yep. That would be the issue. The printer doesn’t know what to do with the files when it’s not set to 4096
@@3DPrintSOS Problem solved and an explanation of what it was and why.
Right around 3:08 you do say the SD card for the Aquila. perhaps you could edit over it and flash the it is the card that came with the Aquila.
Good point. It also has to do with size. You can only use 8 or 16gb cards. Thanks for replying with a fix!

1) nah, I would use 4 clips on the bed
And realign and

Hi There,
Well, Maybe this problem you told us about with the run away over heat seems I think what had happened to my printer?
The company keeps asking me tons of different questions and asking me to do this test then another one and over again.
I think they just don't wish to fix my printer by sending out a new main board even though
I did a test on the Aquila they asked to do where I changed the wires over from the
power block of the hot end to the power block of the bed heater and the try to heat them up like that?
Nothing happened I has zero heat on both as I already told them after seeing that both the hot end and the bed were not heating up
when wired as normal.
I had to buy a new hot end and thermistor and heater cartridge and fit it in place of he original as that had some much melted plastic encasing
it that it even had the hardened plastic as I told them in the screw holes and I could not get the thermistor un-tightened and the heater one either.
So I have to install this firmware update as soon as I can after all this damn testing and checking that the company keeps asking me to do
and they keep asking or the same information over and over again in their emails to me?
Very hard to do even though I have good hand skills with small parts ( i.e. like I did scale models before remember )
After allot of fiddling I got the wires out and locked into the small 2 hole white plug I had from the original system thermistor.
What chip is on your new board. It must be the wrong firmware
8 )
Take a look at the text on the chip and let me know here. I’ll tell you which to download. Color plugs already indicate that it’s a newer board.
I’ve been printing all night and all day I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS SUCH A FIRE RISK 😱
Me too. For 8 months. Not all machines are affected. But hey, now that we all know, the machine is only going to be better. :)
Legend, thanks Fedor, now I can print without worrying my house will burn down! Any huge differences feature-wise with the new firmware?
Well I’d still worry a bit. Haha can never be too sure! LOL.
Lots and lots of differences. Too many to list. Haha Makes the printer into a total powerhouse. I’ll have to make a video!
@@3DPrintSOS Please do!!! My aquila is now totally different! I don't even recognize her anymore!
Thanks for the great videos but do u have any idea why the prints are all just dragging on the bed and just scarring the screen
Gotta relevel until they print properly. Try this: th-cam.com/video/Q7Mu05fZNsk/w-d-xo.html
Can you do a guide for the process on the aquila C2 ?
It’s the same as the rest, just nothing to do for the screen. ;)
@@3DPrintSOS Thanks. And you recommend the default 3x3 .bin file
@@3DPrintSOS Thanks Feddor. I will be looking forward to more videos.
I've got the CR Touch installed, which bin file do I want now? Oh, and I printed the bracket for the sensor without any issue too, came out beautiful! :-D
If you have the Cr touch, watch my Cr touch video, I linked it I believe.
How about the particular steps needed for the Voxelab X2 with the H32 processor?
Update, installed the update, now my extruder feeds and than runs backwards during calibration
Hmm. During which calibration?
@@3DPrintSOS after firmware update, I have reverted back to 2.1
I installed this firmware but had an issue with my printer and needed to return it, sadly no instructions on how to uninstall the firmware and had no luck finding any examples on forums.
You just follow the same instructions but use the files on the voxelab site.
@@3DPrintSOS I did that but no luck but I may be an anomalie
They have. Just grab the latest and you should be good to go.
@@3DPrintSOS ok nice one, thank you for the reply.
I got this loaded but for my printer I had to change the wiring to each limit switch for it to home properly.
i have been waiting for firmware update video. It would be nice if you go over new features
That’s what I’m thinking. There are tons of amazing features to go over.
Do you know if they have a horizontal layout version of the software instead of vertical? Great video thank you!
Not at the moment. They mentioned that it’s quite complex to get it rotated but they won’t fully dismiss the idea.
Yep, it’s just a printed part. If you type in Aquila Mount in Thingiverse there is a nice adjustable one. :)
is there one for the h32?
Not yet. Alex is working on it
having troubles installing the firmware, its stuck on the loading bar screen and doesn't change.
Are you formatting the card with 4096bytes and are you sure you have the right firmware for your chip?
@@3DPrintSOS yes I did, so some how after doing a couple time it worked, also switch brand of memory card. So idk what the deal was. Thanks for replying back tho! Great vids
Had to have been the card. Glad you got it though. ;)
Hi thanks for the video! If you could explain how to change the colors on the screen that would be helpful
Thanks. I think I’ll do a bit of a deeper dive soon
Thank for your videos. I still dont know where can i get the information about the chip type of my Aquila. How do you know what type of chip is on your board?
This vid should help: th-cam.com/users/shortsX391o3XfjDQ?feature=share
Dan V
I did an unboxing and initial impressions of the S2. I think the xl kit would work just fine as it’s just the hotend that is different. ;)
@@3DPrintSOS I will check out the XL Kit and see if it something that I might get into down the road, I am still just trying to learn how to 3d print, and also learn this machine. Any tips for slicers, filament and other tips for the Aquila S2?
Cura is great for these machines. All of my profiles for the Aquila will work for the S2. You just have to set the retraction properly. That’s all. :)
Do you have an h32 machine?
@@3DPrintSOS Hi, thanks for responding. No G32.
Worth a try
I UPDATED THE FIRMWARE AND THE DISPLAY FIEMWARE ,WHEN I TRY TO PRINT THERMAL RUNWAY AND SHUTDAWN
Yes.it’s a game changer. Glad you’re liking it.
My friend, thank you very much but I have an Aquila S3 and believe me I have already tried all the n32s and none of them make me able to hit the home plate in Z, what am I doing? I'm going to cry.
I never had the S3 but I assume it’s a combo of you limit switch on the z axis being too high and your springs on the bed being too compressed.
Do you have to print a new mount to have the screen vertically?
Yes. There are a ton of choices on Thingiverse though
Has voxeLab come out with updated firmware yet?
They have. All the latest firmware on their site, fixes the potential issue.
has this been fixed by voxelab or do i still need to install this firmware?
Both. Fixed, in the latest firmware. You have to update to it. :)
@@3DPrintSOS if i buy one after the new firmware does it still need to be updated or will it come pre updated?
You can check the version in settings right on the machine and then compare it to the latest version on their site. That would be the best way.
Alex’s is 100% worth the screen flip. I would highly recommend it. :)
What would you do if when you turn on the printer, the screen never changes, stays on the voxlab boot screen
Could you do an octopi video and include the bed visualizer I’m having problems with mine it ignores z offset and z stop and crashes into the bed
I gotta get my hands on another pi
@@richm658 oh I hope so. I would do it myself but don't know anything about it :/
