    I am familiar with the CZ "wolfdog" as you call it. This was probably the most intelligent dog I have ever known. She was no problem around any children, was not at all aggressive unless provoked, and even another friend's Rottweiler was slightly afraid of her. She was very warm, very attached and loyal, and very expressive with her emotions. A truly great dog.

      They are the national breed of both CZ and SK. We have a 6 month old and yes, she is by far the smartest dog I've ever known. She is great with my kids 4 and 7. They are confident and deal with her better than my wife. We've been training with her for 2 months now and she is great and loves the dog park with her friends.

    Thank you for this. Sincerely!
    I've been looking into this Czechoslovakian wolfdog called Taiyo, she's really sweet, kind, and friendly but also playful. She's never had a home, and when I met her I fell in love instantly. But I didn't know quite if she was a right choice, due to temperament in certain wolfdog breeds. Now I know she'd make an excellent choice, so thank you, really! Now Taiyo is happy and in her sweet home, and so far so good!

    I really love your videos about the wolf dogs and I hope that through these videos the amount of people who would want one for prestige reasons will decrease. Personally I am an absolute cat-person, being owned by two beautiful jet-black boys. Every now and then I think I should get a dog, but then I reach the conclusion that dogs may not really enjoy my laid-back life style. So watching your videos is probably the closest I will ever get to owning a dog and especially when it comes to wolf dog.

    • @foofieviolet
      @foofieviolet 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      WILD THINGS there’s a documentary on coywolves on Netflix currently. I haven’t seen that one, but I did see one on pbs I think a few years ago. I can’t recall human deaths, but I can say there’s more of a danger because they can be just as large and powerful as a wolf, but are less timid, and are bold like a coyote and live in urban areas. In the documentary I watched they were definitely worried about that, and in fact one was growling at ppl if they cane in his territory, so they killed him, only to discover it was because he was protecting his mate and young pups in their den. Usually, they roam (I can’t remember the exact number, but for some reason my mind brings up the number 40? But can’t remember if it was miles or kilometers) over a night or two. They have extensive territories, and are very good at keeping out of sight in urban areas, so it was unique that this male was growling at humans and staying in one small area. It’s such a fine line between the safety of humans and animal conservation. Like the other commenter said, they also take up natural wolf territories

    • @amzarnacht6710
      @amzarnacht6710 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@NoneNone-kp1qc Taking the cunning and boldness of a coyote and adding the power of a wolf to it... can certainly be problematic, though only passingly to humans. Yotes and yote-crosses will be far more willing to live in suburban and even urban areas, increasing the encounter potential with humans, than wolves which would avoid such areas like the plague. But, if you cross a coyote with a domestic breed that they don't *eat* before mating with and you have the same problem - plenty of cunning, plenty of potential for a lot of power in the hybrid (depending on the domestic).
      But such admixtures can also be advantageous for security, farm, and other work as the coyote is a *damn* smart animal that, if socialized from birth and trained properly could probably do any job required of modern security animals.
      As for coy-crosses and human fatalities: pure coyotes and coydogs have more reported attacks on humans than wolves or confirmed coywolves by a very, very large margin. And attacks on domestic pets by coyotes is a plague in many areas from farmland to inner cities.

    Fantastic video, very informative...... I have a friend who has three Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs, they are all very different from one another in temperament as in night and day different...... I think a really important point to anyone thinking in owning one would be that you should be prepared for an array of temperaments that your wolfdog could possibly have and expect the unexpected rather than thinking you will get a specific temperament.... ranging from extremely coy (Shy) to extremely dominant...... as well as needing a decent sized enclosed high fenced garden...... and a dog that needs some serious daily exercise as in three x 1 hour cross country walks preferably of lead if possible......

I would love to see you visit the 'mini-husky', Alaskan Klee Kai! It's such a new breed that there's not much information about them out there. Have a great day!

    Gorgeous dog's (and presenter!)! I have a 15 month old Siberian Husky and people try to tell me he is not a dog but in fact a wolf. Others seem to think he's a Malamute.
    Huskies are shorter, slimmer, more angular muzzle (read as not as squared), faces are full of expression and their ears are closer together.
    People need more education with dog's.
    Never a bad dog only bad owner's.

    Such a cute video. You probably know more about the character of the breeds than others know about the character of the people. I added the CS wolfdog (vlčák) to my Quora answer on Czechoslovak inventions LOL.
    You know, I think that the CS wolfdog is the most recognizable breed in Czechia (although the police or army are still leading its ownership) - along with Cocker Spaniel, Dachshund, Golden Retriever - but the actual professionals' lists are led by the German Shepherd, boxer, Hungarian viszla, azavak, fox terrier, saluka, little bishon, porcelain, Weimar pointing dog, and Stafordsheer Bull Terrier. Dášeňka, the dog from the "dog biography" book by Karel Čapek - the inventor of the word Robot - was Fox Terrier. Fig the Maxidog from the animated cartoon seems like a St Bernard but he was mixed with a Bobtail (Old English Sheepdog). ;-)

    I get a bit emotional watching you with your beautiful girl (don’t want to butcher her name lol). I was raised with German Shepards and I think it’s the eyes that remind me of my gorgeous, now past furry family. I have an advancing degenerative condition, so watching you and your videos is the closest I will unfortunately get to owning my dream breed Czech wolf dog. The up side is that I had to choose a breed other than a GSD and I have spent the last 14 years of my life with Tia, a pedigree staffy who has become my absolute best friend in the whole world. Thank you for all you do, it allows me the live somewhat vicariously through the videos. Peace from Somerset. Dan and Tia

    All three of these Wolfdogs are very beautiful representations of the various Wolfdogs. However, I'm partial to my own girl... *BIG WIDE GRIN* Nova which I've written to you about previously, is a F2 German Shepard/Arctic Wolf. Mom is a pure black imported Shepard from Afghanistan. A "retired" working guard dog that came home with a returning First Nations Soldier that was deployed over there. Nova's father is half German Shepard working (guard lines) and his father is the Arctic Wolf.
    I have been very happy and surprised at how "easy" Nova has been so far (knock on wood) However, she does seem to take after her guarding German Shepard mom, more than the wolf but... You can clearly see in many situations that the wolf in her is very much there. She is a bit skittish around people she doesn't know but once she and I have given them the OK, she's full of love and kisses. I know that she would be much less standoffish. (keeping her distance a few meters but, still clearly showing that she wouldn't hesitate to take action if I would give her the command) if I would have been able to socialize her more but, living off grid in mid BC Canada, you don't get to town that often, as there really is no reason. However, when she does ride with me in the truck to town, she loves calmly walking down the streets of our small town, looking at everything and everyone, sniffing at all the new and strange smells and wagging her tail, just don't try to stare her down, approach her to fast or come up from behind and try to pet her... For this reason, when in town I do have a muzzle on her. Not that I don't trust her, I don't trust people. She has never nipped or bitten anyone but her warning growl is to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, she is not used to children since there are non around here.
    She is soon 1 and a half yrs. old and is still developing. Making a point of driving down the mountain to go into town more often, especially now that the snow is starting to melt. She is always with me 24/7. Be it on our property, in the woods or when I do drive to town. What has surprised me is how easy it was to get her "house trained", as in not chewing on things or destroying stuff. (potty trained was not that easy, but she understood early what the puppy pads were for) I have had much MUCH more problems with those types of destructive behavioral issues with my previous mountain dog breeds such as the Hungarian Kuvasz, Maremma and Great Pyrenees Mountain Dogs.
    So far out here, I have been able to keep her not fenced in, free and loose and she hasn't shown any tendencies YET to "wander" or chase our livestock, regardless of type/species. I know that could just be a matter of time, so we do much training on where the borders are that she is not allowed to go outside of on her own.
    She had her first heat in late November and hasn't changed behavior much. Will have to wait for the next one to see if she'll change behavior in any way. She's a big girl, big boned and well muscled. She does bark when she deems something is not right or when any of the many wild animals that live out here show up on our property that she can see. She's had her encounters with the local Black Bears when they've tried to take a short cut through our yard and will gladly run them off or tree them but so far, she has followed orders that once the bears are out side of what we deem our yard that surrounds the house and outbuildings, she has done her job and must not follow/chase them further or into the woods. But, we'll see if this lasts or, if I'm still experiencing the "honey moon" stage of her development. Physically she does look like a blend of the wolf and German Shepard. Her coloring is mostly black, except from her tan legs. She has the smaller thick and furry wolf ears and golden/yellow eyes. Big boned and large paws. A lot more and thicker fur than the German Shepard and a fully furred tummy. When she goes for a swim in our pond, one shake and she's dry... Not much water that can get through that coat!
    Only time she howls is early morning or late evening when we hear the wild wolves howl and I howl with them. She will sit or stand right next to me and her howl is deep and beautiful. No regrets about adding her to our pack or, rather her adding us to her pack... LOL
    However, she is NOT suited to be a city dog...

      @FifaPro1001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How is she doing now

    • @solanisomeni
      @solanisomeni 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FifaPro1001 Nova is doing great! ☺❤ Our life situation has changed quite a bit since I first wrote about her here. After spending her first 2.5 yrs. off grid in BC Canada, I jumped back over to Sweden and my two legged adult kids.
      Have done A LOT of training with Nova and she is now certified as my Service Dog. I got her certified in Canada, before we flew back here to Sweden. She's still the happy playful wolfish pup but, also has a very serious side, when she feels that she needs it...
      Thankfully we live out in the country/forest here too (my old house that I kept while I was in Canada) and not in a city. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the free range I was able to let her have in Canada, due to that we have neighbors much closer. She does have a large dog run and besides the daily walks on leash out here on the dirt roads, we take at least 3 off leash walks a week, through the forest at night. It is much more peaceful letting her run free at night and she really enjoy being able to run free. She still won't run off, even if she runs wide circles around me. 😂
      I don't put a muzzle on her when we are in town anymore, even if I always have one in my pocket... When she has her "working vest" on, she knows she's on the job and that she needs to be on her best behavior. I'm very thankful that I managed to get her certified as my Service Dog before we flew to Sweden as she would not be able to become certified over here, due to that she is NOT "available" meaning, no one other than me, can hold her leash. She will not let anyone take her leash and/or try to walk off with her or, I walk off. She WILL do everything she can to get loose, to the point where if whomever doesn't let go, she will bite... Her vet in Canada wanted to see how bonded she was with me and tried it. And yes, Nova was thankfully wearing her muzzle then...
      It makes me sad that I can tell that she does miss her freedom to be off leash and also misses chasing the black bears. Don't have any bears around here. Have wild hogs though and she's more than a little irritated that she's not allowed to chase them... We do however have a wolf out here somewhere, 😳 as she will howl every now and then and the only animal she will howl at/with is another wolf. She never howls with a Husky or Malamute. She also never barks at other dogs in town, even if they're barking their heads off at her. She'll just raise her head, look, listen and ignore them...
      She does BARK a lot, when she hears something/someone on or around the property. She is a very sharp guard dog, which isn't that common with a high content Wolfdog. She guards me and our cats/kittens. When my moma cat had her kittens, Nova would lay right next to them, not touching them but with her nose right up next to the box they were in. She's good with the cats but, she doesn't want them to come cuddle with her or, get to close to her food bowl when she's eating. She'll also wait until they've finished their breakfast/dinner and left the bowls, before she goes in and "does the dishes". She's never harmed them but, she will growl at them and they have learned that, OK... I'll back off. She will however NOT let them go out through the back door that leads out to her run. NOPE, you guys stay inside!! 😳😂
      When out in town, even if she "behaves" she has a few times let out a low growl if someone looks at me for to long. Especially if it's a man. If I'm sitting in our car and someone walks up to the car or walks to close to the side I'm sitting on, she'll, raise holy hell and smack her nose/teeth on the window, causing whoever to jump out of their skin so yes, she is highly protective of me.
      I still don't regret adding her to my flock but, yes, sometimes it's difficult and you really have to think of how to solve various situations that you wouldn't have to with a "regular dog".
      No one over here knows what she is, as I've only said that she is German Shepard/Alaska Malamute and I intend to keep it that way...

I have watched & rewatched your programs & I would love to get a Sarloos. The issue is , I’m in Ireland & have had had no luck in finding a breeder in Ireland & have had a lot of people trying to scam me. I know you’re very busy, but I would really appreciate any advise on breeders & cost of Sarloos .p.s I just want to keep it as a companion, part of the family pack, not a show dog. Thank you,I’ll keep learning from your shows.🐺

    ANIMAL WATCH you need to do a video about the the Mexican Calupoh which is a wolf dog breed that happen in nature with the mix of the Mexican Grey Wolf and the native dog encounters. It existed before the Europeans arrived to the Americas. The government has brought back the breed as a cultural rescue. I think this "new but old" breed needs a video as it is relatively unknown.
