When I was a kid we had a malamute that weighed in at 82kg and another that weighed 70kg. Both were gigantic and very lean. We used them to pull our cars out of the snowbank when we got stuck, and we often gave them exercise by having them pull a small car or a large sled.

I've always been a fan of dogs that don't look too far removed from their wolf ancestors. It's why I could never see myself having something like a pug, yorkie or bulldog. Working line German Shepherds are definitely my preferred breed. I just adopted a 5 year old GSD called Anya a couple of months ago. I was becoming quite inactive and reclusive due to lock down and losing my old dog at the beginning of the year. Rescuing Anya has completely turned that around!
According to Dr. Stanley Coran, a professor of psychology and noted author on dog behavior, the dog breed most like the wolf behaviorally is the German Shepherd. His reason, unlike Huskies or Malmutes, you can not take the leadership away from a German Shepherd without a fight. I have owned many GSD's. If you love them and treat them like your family, you will have a very intelligent companion and member of your family.
German shepherds are ugly af tbh. If You want a dog that looks more like a wolf, is more intelligent, more tame and more healthy than a german shepherd get an old german herding dog.

Seeing this video makes me realize how wolf like my dog actually was. In 2006 I adopted what they called an Alaskan Husky. She was 98 pounds, typical Malamute mask, very tough, one blue eye one amber eye, very dark red and white coat, and shed her entire coat in the spring so she looked like an entirely different dog with hardly any red, shedding not just her under coat, but a lot of the rest, too! But she looked just a little more wolf than the average malamute does, and was much taller than any malamute I've ever met. Everyone thought she was Malamute and wolf, because her size and her tail was not curled most of the time, but straight and down like a wolf. Her nose was much longer than either a Husky or a malamute's should be. She was food aggressive, but otherwise loved all other dogs, but made sure they knew she was the boss and would not put up with disrespect. She acted quite a lot like a wolf, but also very intelligent and so funny! Best dog ever. We spent a lot of time camping in national forests so she could be herself, and traveled all over the US with her for 11 years!
I’m missing the White Swiss shepherd. They tend to be a bit taller than the GSD, have a higher tail and longer legs. Their temperament, although not too different from the GSD, is bit more timid and untrusting of strangers. They don’t look 100% like arctic wolves but I think for a dog with 0 wolf in it they come quite close 😊

My White Swiss Shepherd (which I believe is really just an off shoot of German Shepherds") looks very wolf-like. She is a beauty. Needy, always underfoot, but a beauty. lol
My uncle has a working line german shepherd and she really looks like a wolf with her amber eyes, long pointy ears, dark coat and straight back, she's just gorgeous
Our german shepard was around 50Kg, she was even bigger than some males. She was howling like a wolf and she had a grey and silver ish color was very wolfy for me :) She had a completely different fur than our current german shepard. At the winter time she had a very tick fur very soft short fur closer to her body and long rough outer fur, at the summer time she dropped it and had a normal german shepard fur.
Most dogs howl, even small dogs some breeds. My uncle's rotti howls and my German Shepherd howls all the time! Just do alot of research on whatever dog you think you want, most people want a wolf look dog and get huskies and can't handle nor train them at all. This is why shelters are filled with this breed.

The hips are higher in German Shepherds from working line breeding, though, aren't they? Were I not allergic to dog hair, those would have been on my favourite list. Since I am, though, I'll stick with my best pal, our really sweet and un-wolfy black poodle boy (though he actually howls sometimes when he sleeps 🤔) At least I can actually cuddle him without sneezing all day long 🥰

My grandparents had a dog named Beau who looked a lot like a wolf in the face and fur coloring. He would frighten off delivery men away from the yard when he would quietly walk up to them. One night he wandered into the surrounding forest and never came back. I loved that quiet dog.
You should get one I have one right now and she is amazing but you should have a backyard or have time to take care of them because they will need a lot of walking and exercise and need a lot of training and yes you can off leash train a husky.
My huskies love watching these with me. I put this up on the big screen and they sit there and stare and howl. It's SO funny. I'll need to post a "response" video to one of these some time.
I lived with a half wolf half GS dog for 18 years till she passed away. A lot of work and most can not provide the secure enviroment they need much less keep them happy. My Kali was my heart and soul.

I have two Germans and they howl like wolves every morning to let me know they are ready to get up for the day. Sometimes I let them go for a few minutes because it’s so beautiful sounding, like my own little wolf pack.
Wolves don’t have a large territory for fun, it’s actually been shown that in a study, wolves had the same energy level as a domestic dog. Wolves don’t roam for fun, it’s out of necessity. So if anyone thinks wolves shouldnt be cooped up in a house, do remember that scientifically dogs are recognized as wolves too.
I have a GSDxMalamute (80%x20%). Apart from the GSD colouring, ears and none howling he comes across very wolfdog like. 28 inches and 40kg, extremely fast and athletic. Can be responsive but likes to be when he feels like it, wary of strangers but very affectionate to his family and friends. AND AN EXTREMELY HIGH PREY DRIVE
I have two things to say about the Malamute: The first is its size, although according to the FCI and the AKC the perfect size of the malamute is 63.5 cm, there is a natural range of sizes that goes from 58 cm to 70 cm, from In fact, working lines in deep snow are between 67 and 70cm, with many reaching 55kg. The second is his coat, the Malamute, it changes winter and summer coats, being longer in winter and developing a mane around the neck, and shorter in summer, with the mane less visible.

I currently am owned by a Malamute and agree with everything you said. I did have a Wolf/Husky mix (85%wolf) and they don't make very good pets. I had to end up giving him to a Wildlife rescue group who knew how to deal with him.

When I was younger I saw a Malamute at a dog park and wanted to pet it but my grandmother thought it was a wolf! She was really nervous and didn't let me pet it even though the Malamute's owner said that it wasn't a wolf...funny situation

i have a 3 1/2 year old malamute and he never did hurt a dog except his brother. they were fighting a lot but with other dogs he is very nice

I have a GSDxMalamute (80%x20%). Apart from the GSD colouring, ears and none howling he comes across very wolfdog like. 28 inches and 40kg, extremely fast and athletic. Can be responsive but likes to be when he feels like it, wary of strangers but very affectionate to his family and friends. AND AN EXTREMELY HIGH PREY DRIVE
I have two things to say about the Malamute: The first is its size, although according to the FCI and the AKC the perfect size of the malamute is 63.5 cm, there is a natural range of sizes that goes from 58 cm to 70 cm, from In fact, working lines in deep snow are between 67 and 70cm, with many reaching 55kg. The second is his coat, the Malamute, it changes winter and summer coats, being longer in winter and developing a mane around the neck, and shorter in summer, with the mane less visible.

I currently am owned by a Malamute and agree with everything you said. I did have a Wolf/Husky mix (85%wolf) and they don't make very good pets. I had to end up giving him to a Wildlife rescue group who knew how to deal with him.

When I was younger I saw a Malamute at a dog park and wanted to pet it but my grandmother thought it was a wolf! She was really nervous and didn't let me pet it even though the Malamute's owner said that it wasn't a wolf...funny situation

Siberian huskies often have a low tail, unlike other spitz-type dogs. She should also consider body language where the siberian husky is very similar to the wolf.
I disagree as I've worked with wolves for over 20 years and own a husky. I've also filmed huskies several times
