    Danny, your time lapse footage is perfectly stunning. All of your DIY projects are great and certainly seem like excellent changes. Oh, gosh, I know exactly how you feel about the deer. I have the same issue, it is so discouraging. When I finally was able to fence my plants safe from the deer, the plants were then attacked by voles!! Grrrr.

      You have voles? They’ll make crazy holes everywhere which is worse I think 😱 I have a fence plan hopefully in the near future and we can start to take our garden more seriously.

    they should invent a way to retrofit windows that exist to be double paned and clear glassed . . I was grateful to have at least one window clear in my new to me, apt in Ehime

      It’s so true about aligning the drawers. You just never know that’s an actual thing until you make something with them. Took a couple of retrofits to get it right but that would hVe been boring to put in the video I thought lol

      Pity that it is in the controversial mental health niche and not say an outdoor sports or DIY tool brand.

    I hear you I had been looking forward to some apples from our apple tree (which was producing apples for the first time) but the deer ate them first. Looks like you need to build a fence to keep out the deer or a Shiba Inu to keep them away.

      I’ve dreamt up the plans for a fence already lol 😂 I have access to some scrap wood and maybe I can make the fence as a early winter project… too hot to do it now 🥵

    What part of Japan are you living in. You have a great project and enjoying watching your home come together. I live in Tokyo and fell in love with the architecture of the old homes in Amanohashidate. Your neighborhood reminds me a bit of that area outside of Kyoto. I’ve also started doing a little research in that area and homes are reasonable…. Who knows. Keep moving forward!

    • @DIYJapan

      Appreciate it! Amanohashidate has some great little areas that are pretty and reasonable home prices. Definitely a nice place for a retirement home.

    That deer would be on the menu after that blueberry burglary (...venison with a hint of blueberry flavor. Tasty bastard!)! Cool time lapses...specially those moon and stars! Only thing that should the frosted is...frosted flakes! Window looks a lot better...nice view!

    Very sweet daughter, Danny! Is the place you launched your kayak a public ramp, yours, or someone you know? You did a great job with the beam--cutting it down with just the tools you had and notching the posts. I watch this guy Kaziya and his builing projects (he's in Yamanashi and a real pro woodworker) and you "done good."

    9:14 Knowing how destructive and little warning one might have from an impending tsunami, I would feel awfully nervous living in a home there that didn't have an escape pod to strap into and punch out of there in a hurry. 😅
    The view and lifestyle versus always ready to run for your life. I hope I am never posed with that dilemma as I'd be in your shoes in a heartbeat. 😅

      You have to weigh the risks and make choices based on that. This region isn't known for earthquakes and the village has been around for hundreds of years with nothing coming this way... one can only hope it stays that way.

    • @DIYJapan

    I don't know if you have mentioned it before but how do you get your income?
    I can't imagine it being cheap to take on a renovation project while having a family even with the lower cost of living compared to the city

    • @DIYJapan

      Well the house is paid off so we don’t have the cost of rent. Also the cost of utilities is less. With that said, my income is from online work, graphic design and such which is sometimes inconsistent, my wife works full time as she didn’t before which offsets my inconsistent income. When I lived in the city I had a full time job so it’s swapped a bit with my wife.

      @@DIYJapan I see, thanks for the information
      (I live in a country where the term "countryside" doesn't exist, its just one city, so I can't imagine how its like getting income in the middle of nowhere unless you grew up there/have online work)

    Maybe you can polish the glass.

    • @DIYJapan

      I’ve thought long and hard about it… but the glass is frosted by sand blasting… so it’s very inconsistent in thickness. I tried using a piece before and it snapped in pieces too easily. I think if I polished it, it would weaken it too much and it would shatter easily.
