“It never ends when you own your own home” … I have been involved with preschool aged kids in Tokyo for many years and this is a special time for you guys. Enjoy it, it goes quick, glad your documenting it.
I just love your videos! Your sliding doors are very beautiful. All of your "Ghetto Fixes" gave me a great laugh, and well . . . that's just how I do fixes. You do live in a lovely, lovely place and your daughter is so very adorable. Thank you for sharing.
13:20 I just replaced my old screen door this week! You just gotta rip out the old spline then keep the new screen taught while wedging in the new spline. I'm sure building a screen holding frame to that window's custom dimensions wouldn't be too hard. I'm saving up for my own akiya now, this looks too fun!
Thanks for the new episode! Hm, I’m not a huge fan of the new doors.. kinda big for such a small space. But I get it would take a while to design and cut some closet doors to fit within the weird shape of the nook.. All hail ghetto fixes tho xD Mice love peanut butter, so you could also give that a try in the future :)
Yeah, it took a few months of thinking about how to hide this spot. Cutting doors to fit the weird shape and make it more integrated just took too much time effort and money 😞 I would use peanut butter but “real” peanut butter is just as expensive as the cheese in Japan lol
Your daughter is adorable! Are there many kids for her to play with in your area? As a kominka owner, I really appreciate ideas for new ghetto fixes. Spent a day measuring 20 old wooden doors in the koya. Of course, none of them will fit properly for a closet door. Ghetto Fix to the rescue (hopefully)! Thanks for another fun vlog.
She has a ton of friends. And they all play often… more than when we lived in Osaka… which is strange because a few million people more there! Glad I could inspire some ghetto fix projects lol 😂
Just one coat of polyurethane… but I fear it won’t be a permanent fix… it’s not sunny but it is damp back there, I can see it rotting after a few years, enough time to make something better I hope. 🤞🏼
Doing a ghetto fix this morning. I stepped on the edge of my fiberglass tub and put a small hole in it. The guy who install it(not me) did a terrible job. I was looking online how to fix it and the only thing I was was some expensive fiberglass repair kit. I said screw that, I got some JB weld water putty, filled in the hole, got some mesh tape over the puddy, and the cheap two part tub repair kit. A little sanding and done.
That's pretty wild...glowing Plankton. Barn doors, that was a pretty nice ....GHETTO FIX! : ) And the GHETTO FIX screen...nothing wrong with that. I did the exact same thing...using caulk to glue it down to the frame, very effective. That's the nice thing about an Akiya....even a GHETTO FIX is still better than what was there before. Years from now, your daughter is going to have so pretty nice memories from having grown up there in your little picturesque sea side town. Oh...and yeah..I noticed that blue berry stealing dear in the opening. Still say that that sucker belongs in the fridge! :)
Ine looks so majestic in your videos even if the monkeys might bully you, hah. How well do stud finders work for drilling into walls like for the barn doors? Did you have to relocate or have new power outlets installed for the new refrigerator location? I always find that older Japanese buildings don't supply enough power outlets for modern needs, hehe.
Stud finders don't really work because it gets confused with all the bamboo in there. Luckily there is an outlet back there where the fridge is plugged into. I had the electrician add about 10 extra outlets when he did work for me lol I agree, way too little outlets. You gotta have a power strip and have like 10 plugs going into one outlet... seems dangerous right? lol
@@DIYJapan Totally, I got the power strip surge protector from the US but into a travel converter so the 3 prongs can still safely power stuff. I see, so mostly having the right anchors or visible studs are the way to go, gotcha. I guess less power outlets makes me consider what I buy since space can run out quickly in older designed dwellings. We live life on the edge, hah
The dentists are good here. Many study in the U.S. and come back and work in larger cities. Countryside doctors are good too but you'll find the more advanced doctors in the bigger cities.
Lol maybe I can make a short out of it lol it would be difficult to time it just right to come and see it. It lasted one week and it randomly comes when it comes and then it’s gone.
Magical place
I'm 3 seconds in and I paused the video just to enjoy the view. Beautiful.
LOve how gently you relocated the mouse. :)
Glad you like it! We’re trying our best to be gentle with our little friends.

Everyone tells us this is the best age and I’m trying my best to enjoy it. Hopefully she can look back at our videos and smile 😀

I’m such a perfectionist but I’m starting to accept ghetto fixes lol 😂

It’s great fun… but summer not so much… loading up on materials for the fall project blitz.
Thanks for the new episode!

Beautiful place and love your update. You are loving my daydream. Thank you for your posting! From L.A., USA.
Appreciate the good vibes! Enjoy the never ending sun in L.A.! Rain all week here 😩
Love the cozy area. Great spot.
Thanks 👍
do you local fishing? kind of fish there?
Many local fishermen. I don't fish myself but a lot of people here catch (in Japanese ) Tai, octopus, squid, and Buri (Yellowtail)
I really appreciate your insights on Ine! thank you for sharing!
You're so welcome!

You are bringing a new life into this old town. Best wishes for your family ☺️
I hope so. Definitely unconventional for them to have a foreigner there.
Nothing spell 田舎 like 夕焼け小焼け playing at 1700. 😊
I always look forward to sunset time 🌅
Your fly screen, did you preserve the wood before you fixed your screen material on?

Good ol’ JB weld 😆 you can fix a lot either way it!
I hope that big mouse eats a lot and grow healthy. ~_~
He’s totally enjoying his new home :)

Would love to have that deer in my fridge lol I dream of ways to make it possible every night 😂
Nice épisode !’
Where did you buy the rollers for your sliding door ?
I bought online from that store named after the rain forest 😉 lol

Can you tell me what is the scope of dentist doctor in Japan?
The dentists are good here. Many study in the U.S. and come back and work in larger cities. Countryside doctors are good too but you'll find the more advanced doctors in the bigger cities.
I WANT A BABY RACCOOOOOON!
The way the babies scuttled away was too cute!
@@DIYJapan I love them so much
Ok the bioluminescence algae are ideal for short.
But may be you don't do it so Ine remains an insider tip. 😊😊😊

Интересно
Ghetto fix is still a fix, lol.
That’s true! It’s still doing the job just fine lol
oh no not ghetto fix lmaooo
Might be a few more in the future lol
Have a cats 🐈 will help to catch 🐀
