The Suzuki Swift Sport is a small hot hatchback designed to carry on the baton from its successful predecessor. It has a lot to live up to, because with a rorty petrol engine and engaging handling, the previous Swift Sport was a highly affordable performance car that many driving enthusiasts fell in love with. This one has a new turbo engine and a more grown-up character. Is it a winner? Ginny Buckley finds out.

That ‘scratchy plastic’ is way tougher than the soft crap most cars use. It does not fade or crack like others.

  • @sunilayya8948

Suzuki doesn't flatter you with soft touch plastics to deceive you with inferior mechanicals underneath, like they do in many European brands. They use the best components like aisin auto transmissions, IHI turbochargers , denso/Mitsubishi electrics etc. and costly high tensile steel for lightness. No wonder they score so well in reliability surveys.

No wonder they do so well on reliability surveys. They topped the 2018 What Car ? Reliability survey.

Why do so many people complain about the lack of 200bhp like it's rivals have? The Swift is 200kg lighter on average compared to its rivals! So only in a straight line drag a fiesta ST or Polo gti will gain, but nothing silly. I guess a car length at best on a 1/4 drag. Watch the comparison video from Fahr Doch, a german car youtube channel! The swift sport is more than a match for a fiesta ST on a tight mountain pass!
And giving how easily you can get more power out of cars nowadays, its silly not to go stage 1 on the swift, cause with 170bhp and 300nm it will more than enough to keep up with the competition, while still having less power!

I still really like this car as I always have, but the whole point of the swift sport was that it is the most fun you can have for the smallest money. Also that it was one of the last lightweight old school hot hatches. That doesnt appear to be the case anymore. Not only is it a lot more expensive but now crammed full of tech that I wouldn't want, the fact that it is no longer naturally aspirated will put the price up and make me worry about the longevity of the engine, plus suzuki don't even give you the choice of having these items now which I find very irritating. Sad to say that if I was in the market for a new car I think I'd go for the vw up gti now

    • @rosstee

I agree about the amount of equipment which isn’t essential, but this new Swift Sport is 100kg lighter than the previous one (and lighter than the Up)! That’s the the most important thing, especially as light cars are incredibly rare these days.

    • @MLife1972
      @MLife1972 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@vojH2O ...and that's fine when the car was a little bit cheaper. Now that the car is more expensive, it has to compete with cars in that price bracket. Which means it needs to have the quality of the cars in that price bracket. Why can't I have a car that drives nicely and feels good to touch? There is a practical element with having a decent finish. Hard, plastics are more likely to scratch on keys, coins, pets, children and daily use. This means you may lose some money trying to re-sell a scratched car. Where I live, it also gets very hot, so hard plastics also feel uncomfortable when you want to rest your elbow on a door sill and may crack under extreme heat. I'm only speaking for myself - everyone's different thankfully - if you like the Suzuki and like hard plastic then 'have at it'.

The polo is 20k because you will spend 10k in repairs 🤣

Nothing exciting or interesting that makes me want to buy this car.
Looks- outside, uninspiring. Interior, dull and cheap.
Value for money- ok, compared to the competition
    Driving- unimpressive and underwhelming figures.

Good-looking? It's hideous. They've ruined the smooth curves of the older model and added in silly and unnecessary 'stylistic elements' just to make it look a bit different.

@@holeechit1054 .. true maybe and at least the review(er) is even more boring than the car.

Lightweight cars like this are the opposite of boring; being light makes everything about driving (especially handling) more fun. The heavier the car the more boring it is to drive, and most cars are heavy these days.
