I have found that everyone suffers with addiction in different ways, we just suffer from a drug one. I journeyed my detox/ withdrawal off heroin from day 5 all the way to the present. I have journaled many experiences and have shown many of my stories on my channel. During this process I have learned much and continue to learn. I have found that we addicts need new people, places and things for sure!
People Overdosing and dying from addiction is real! I detoxed off heroin and know what its like to be stuck and not be able to stop using drugs. Intervention is sometimes necessary because I know the mind of an addict first hand. The way these drugs feel consumes the addict and they cannot think of stopping and follow through without proper help from others.
Addiction can be overcome. Cocaine, alcohol, benzos, adderal, ecstacy, opioids, heroin, steroids & mushrooms are just some of the drugs that I have tried. I wasn't addicted to all of those listed but I have experimented with these. The war on drugs is stupid and the stigma on drug addicts needs to change in order to help the drug addiction issues within America.

I've been on methadone for 13 years now started on 140ml daily and I was in nodd city every day but I needed that at the time to stop the gear. Now 13 years later I'm on a 50ml maintenance. I've been as low as 19ml but always came back to my "safe space" of 50ml. Yes I've swapped gear for methadone however... my quality of life is 100% improved. Went from a homeless broke addicted thief to having a home a wife a child and full time job. Yes it's an addictive substance but meth life is better than drug life. God bless

Thanks Derek for making these videos. They help me everyday. Going on seven weeks sober. The hardest part is getting out of bed every morning to go to work. No motivation other than I have to make money to keep a roof over my head and pay my bills but I keep going. Moving forward away from dope. Thanks again for what u do.
I came off heroin/fetanayl & crystal meth at same time. I maybe slept 5hrs in 2 week period. It took a good 10 weeks for all symptoms to disappear! Hardest time of my life.

Medicaid covers methadone treatment now with no co pay in most states so money isn't an issue if u want to get help.
Dude I just came across your channel and I just want to say Thank u thank u thank u man!! I was 8 years clean well on methadone but I did relapse for over a year I am now clean 10 months again and tapering down now. Oh and it took me 8 years to get to 10 ml of methadone I was almost off man and then boom literally took running into a past using friend and literally took me 2 months to be back on over a half a day it was insane. But I am happy to say I am back on the road to recovery, and so glad I found your channel!!! Thanks again man!!!!
I have been in cold turkey for 2 days and I coudnt handle the pain so I am currently on suboxone and watching Ur videos inspires and motivates me to quit everything related to dope.

Loved your genuine effort to help people. Some will listen, others will use whatever they hear as an excuse to somehow to NOT help themselves! When I was on methadone and desperately wanted to get off of it, I could not find ONE treatment center that would take me as a patient. This is what I heard" I"m sorry. We don't treat methadone addicts" Whoa....what? You guys treat heroin addicts with methadone, RIGHT? So you're not going to help them if they want to get off of the methadone which, in reality, is a much harder drug to get off of and it also does major damage to your bones, teeth and your brain. I ended up doing it myself but am still pissed that the treatment centers are so "meh" about helping people who no longer want to be chained to a drug or in this case, a methadone bottle. In any case, you sound strong, healthy and you've learned a lot. Bless you so much for sharing your experience in a genuine way. That's what all the suffering is about, in my opinion...so you can share your war stories (to a point--haha) in order to teach others NOT TO follow in your footsteps but most importantly, to teach them why they shouldn't. Again, I say God bless and keep posting!

i am 4 years clean of heroin and was in the methadone clinic for the past 4 years and decided this new years was the end of methadone but i prepared well in advance to be on very little if no mgs by the time i was done tapering and it has made much easier than i thought being at 195mg for most of the time but it definitley makes it easier with preplanned steps and to plan well in advance on what you truley want to do because its hard trying to do it spur of the moment and say im going to quit but your not prepared for the aftermath and cold turkey or not make sure you have ppl and tools in place to succeed.

Methadone is the thing that keeps me on the straight and narrow and stable. Subutex didn’t. Everyone is different and what works for one person might not work for another. Love the videos and you’re a lifesaver for a lot of people.
Wonderful and insightful point of view. I know it's difficult and different for each individual. I still found you're perspective pretty much spot on when it comes to withdrawal. I've been messing up for years. I've got clean and then couldn't cope when the 2'3'4'5 day feeling miserable and sick kicked in. I know it does get better. Then I get the first Knock back with jobs , etc. Then my resolve vanished.
I'll admit that I can do this,
as painful as it is. I remember how special life is. I wish I could stick to being clean and then I choose to self medicate?? Opiates ain't the answer.

22 years on and off dope. Methadone clinic once, sub's 3 times. Cold turkey a dozen times. AA, NA, FNA, thousands of meetings. Presently on sub's. I dont like it, but sick of relapsing once or twice a year. Is what it is. I miss the mental sharpness I once had. Grateful to just be alive. Grateful for family I have... At 61 my health is hit. I've never given up fighting it. Best bet is to never, ever, start to begin with. Godspeed to all facing these problems.

It's amazing how many Americans get started on painkillers from the dentist...Here in the UK dentists NEVER give you opiates..I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled including one where they had to slice the gum open with a scalpel and drill into the bone..They give you paracetamol (APAP)..
Graeme you're right! The dentist in the US is a true source. I won't allow pain killers to be prescribed to ANYONE in my house. It's just not necessary. It starts with 1 pill...
In the u.k drs and shrinks can prescribe heroin still. Dentists no but there still are treatment options.
Dentist gave me tramadol after wisdom tooth pull. Uk
Sadly not true.....I was prescribed Df118 100 of them by the dentist, then another 100 by the Dr and it triggered a relapse.
well here's my story I was using heroin for about seven years off and on but I was also a commercial fisherman so I was able to quit and when I get on the boat and let me tell you it was hell but at the time I wasn't as deep... I always would the have money and I'd be able to keep myself supplied I had a bad habit and long story short it got out of control and coming from a person that was making over a 100k a
year and spending all of it on drugs alcohol and women... I came to realization that something needed to change and you're right I ended up breaking my finger this year which was a blessing in disguise because it was the worst and deepest I've ever been in my drug use so when I was off the boat I got enrolled in a methadone clinic which now I'm at a hundred and 20 milligrams and I've been clean off of dope for over 2 months which my mom and dad and family are happy about but it's hard for me to find Joy about but then next thing I want to get off is the methadone I was wondering how you did it cold turkey and gnats either my choice or the one I'm going to make either the 21-day taper and go through hell or just cold turkey it but I want to quit everything and be back to my old self the one that loves money but you're right now that I'm sober money literally will just sit in my wallet it's weird how I didn't spend money on anything but drugs well and fast cars and I got a Harley

I'm one of the only people I know at my clinic that is actually using methadone to get off opioids. I did same shit at first raising my dose up to 120. Once your body gets used to a large dose it won't make you nod off.
Nice story. Thinking of sharing my story to give hope to lots of folks wanting treatment and those in treatment that want off
Honesty methadone was one of the worst choices I ever made. Within 16 months I had went from 30mg to 180mg and this particular clinic would not give take home doses even for people that had been there for 5 years; they would be lucky to have a take home one day out of the week. Add the fact the location is a 45min drive one way it became such a hassle that I decided to get off so began a 10mg drop each week. When I got to 20mg I figured that I had tapered down enough to stop so I did. Around 4 days later I was thinking to myself "wow I am doing great, little to no sickness" and then it hit like a freight train. For the next 4 weeks I was bedridden with a sickness that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. It was hell on earth. Knowing what i know now I would probably have considered taking myself out before going through that again. Suboxone on the other hand is a godsend and worked miracles, but I will warn anyone on fentanyl to avoid suboxone for atleast 5 days until it is out of your system and if you try to take it you will end up in precipitaed withdrawal which is worse than most can imagine. Moral of story is suboxone is great for getting off heroin and methadone is an outdated medication that people get trapped on due to not realizing what they signed up for. Hope all is well on your end

I can tell your honest can hear it in your voice I always tell people that you really have to be totally done with it and honestly want to get off then you have to fight like never before it’s going to be hard but with determination I kicked it why because like you I was so tired of being tired and understand you can’t just lay there even if you can’t you have to get up or it will be worse for you methadone works if you’re determined enough keep fighting it’ll pass I promise
I lost 97 pounds after I got off of methadone. The worst part of it is gaining weight and being lazy. If you go to the clinic for as long as I did, you see all the regulars all getting much fatter the more you see them. Including me. I weighed about 180 190 before I started and got up to 311. I would not recommend it unless you are going to start tapering fairly early. Don’t lose a decade of your life like I did on this stuff
Hi peeps the only true way to get clean is to go through the 4-5 days cold Turkey and then you are not beholden to Hitler's green juice also I did the subutex uk 🇬🇧 and was no good for me ..was brilliant if used right but I was snorting it as it felt better and another dirty habit I picked up ...I'm 2 years clean and went cold turkey off of Heroin ,Crack And Spice ...just decided after 15 years to get clean and that was 2 years ago and I've never felt better ..good luck all

I’m not advocating for any certain method, but for any way that results in someone getting clean. Everyone is different, so what works for one person isn’t necessarily the same thing that would work for another.... but as long as it ends up in sobriety, then I’m about it. I kind of look at methadone/suboxone in these terms: using a credit card to buy your life back, and then paying the bill once it’s time to come off.
That’s a perfect way to look at it, wow.

I went the methadone route, just not strong enuff I tried a few times but my body's been worn down from drugs drink injury and bad health i was worried about dieing, wich was kinda a miracle cause I hadn't cared much about my life for awhile. And I have never abused my methadone and I get two weeks take homes, got to behave yourself to get those

Not that its bad i dont think if it helps ppl but my experience sux an yes def do lying an hussling but its not worth but for me cold turkey only wsy for me as nurse cuz just trading but im not against if methadone or subs helps think great but i can't and dont work for me.

I'm 30 hours into withdrawal. I have used a half strip of Suboxone. I have 5 strips I'm only planning to use subs for 4 days to get through the Acute withdrawal then I'm on my own for the first time in two years. This addict has become unhappy with the addict lifestyle. I want to be me again. I let heroin become a routine in my life that should have never even been in it in the first place. Funny what he says about the alcohol.. my dad is an alcoholic, my whole life, and my mum is still with him after 40 years, basically his care taker .. so when I got clean for the first time in 15 years, about 3 years ago it was kinda miraculous how it happened, I started drinking ! Not realizing I'm an alcoholic, because the entire time I was on opioids I never drank, my money was reserved for getting by with pills and chasing the sick away everyday.. I didnt care at all about drinking or weed .. so when i got strait I started drinking and getting into shit immediately .. I relapsed, so the second time I went cold Turkey and made it through, I was not as confident as the first time, but I started craving booze so much! My boyfriend who's not an addict would say, "theres no harm in a beer or 2, you never drink", but I think about sneaking off to grab a mickey 24/7, so no, even one is too many! I'll just keep drinking and cant stop after a few .. so strange I didn't realize I was even an alcoholic till i got clean.. and like you say, i never wanted to be like my dad or put my kids through that, and in the beginning the pills seemed a way better option! I could feel better and not act like a drunkin idiot! Little did I know the dependance would build on me .. if you haven't experienced withdrawl you cant eben fathom it, and once it starts it's too late, you're already on the sick/better sick/better wheel

I've been going to methadone for 5 years and I don't get high, your tolerance still goes up he won't be hi for long, I think I got a lil warm and fuzzy maybe the first 3 days or so, then nothing but I don't care I'll smoke a bowl if I want to get high, methadone is to keep me from being sick
Thats a good thing, you dont want to use it for getting high. I have seen many who were on it for years and still nodding like crazy. I knew 2 different guys on 80mgs, and they admitted they were getting high all the time from the methadone. Nodding out like crazy. Ive seen low doses of methadone like 30 40 mgs knock heroin addicts on there ass. Methadone is strong as hell that's the truth. It's downright dangerous if you don't have a big tolerance. I knew a kid who just sniffed heroin but did not shoot and he drank a friend of mines methadone without his permission and they had to call an ambulance because he ODed. That being said if its helping someone, and not causing issues in their life than its def a good thing. Way better than doing dope and getting it from the street obviously. So to anyone it helps good for you. I personally am like derek, i don't like having to take anything daily regardless. I also came off cold turkey and have been clean from heroin, crack, alcohol, and benzos also for over six years. Life is great. Honestly working out and meditating helped me. I was already lifting weights and eating right before i cold turkeyed the methadone and was feeling great. I had to have the most muscular guy on methadone on the planet lol. Running every day too. Honestly if you are strong and healthy it will help detoxing from opiates and just being sick in general, it makes it easier. I don't know if i could have got through it otherwise. I just starting watching Derek, and i love him and Kurt. If i knew about them when i was detoxing cold turkey off of heroin and methadone they would have helped me big time. I may make a channel about journey some day.

Methadone isn’t for me when I tried getting of it, it was worse than heroin. The one time I went to detox was the easiest withdrawals I had. Felt like I wasn’t even sick. When I was living in Denver I had a buddy I used with who was on methadone as well just wasting his money away and still getting high. I’m trying to get clean but I work everyday so it’s kinda tuff

No no no. Wrong. Cold turkey is a way to quit drugs. Quitting cold turkey means you quit drugs without taking other medications or drugs to help you get clean off of something. It means just dealing with the withdrawals until they go away

Mate you were born in the wrong country... in the UK we get methadone/subbies for free. Been on methadone for 25years plus 56 10mil diazepam a month and on top of that the government pays my rent and gives £1200 per month 😂
I wish I never got on subs! My habit was 3 or 4 30mg oxys (blues) a day. Yes it was a bad habit, but I’d much rather kick that then this 4 year sub habit. I know I have to WANT it, and I’m at a point where I know it’s holding me back. I believe that subs have made me less happy in my life. I consider myself a good looking dude, and girls seem to be interested in me. Well sense I’ve been on subs I haven’t really cared about the opposite sex much and I’m only 35
Robert Worton I wish I hadn't started methadone, I mean in some ways I feel like I am grateful for it but at the same time it's changed me in a lot of ways that had I known would have happened I wouldn't have taken it !!! Now the struggle of trying to get off methadone is pure hell, it is so difficult to get off of methadone and it has really messed my body up in so many ways and I have all sorts of vitamin deficiencies I had never had and a whole host of problems that are a result of methadone use long term !! I am taking my medication level down but I am never rested, I am always tired, unmotivated, just existing, not really sad but not really happy either ya know just sorta going thru the motions of life and barely doing that ! I isolate more now then I did using. This is so much longer the. I ever thought, I had no idea I would be on methadone this long and it sucks!
Ps: I had 10 years clean by living a 12 step program and relapsed when I had some major losses occur and within a year I relapsed, just always keep this in mind to anyone who wants to stay clean :: MEETING MAKERS MAKE IT !!! No matter what do not stop going to meetings, that is the beginning of the end !

You had me until you brought in the religious bullshit, I'm almost on day 10 of methadone detox, and I'm doing fine without a fictional deity. I also got clean of heroin years ago, without the need of a 'higher power' I believe in myself and my own strengths and that's all I need.
why don't you make your own videos on your own journey. some people who are of like mind may find it helpful. I'm glad your absolutely sure about all of that in a world without absolutes. I'd love to see your journey be successful.
