The body of an Olympic athlete and the mind of a Naval academy graduate, and cross trained on every weapons system, shipboard interface, and transport ever made. A lot has been written about the brutal training methods they went through, but not there hasn't been enough talk about just how intelligent they were. The Spartan IIs were INCREDIBLY smart, both in theory and in practice.
It isn't that serious
And then you wake up.
were? this is fiction kid.
the past still exists in fiction, kiD.@@santiagoferrari1973
In fact the ones who were crippled by the augmentation process went on to work for Naval Intelligence, Keyes even references a paper written by one of them in Fall Of Reach
The process of becoming a Spartan vs. becoming a Witcher seems very similar. Taken as kids, shot up with chemicals, eyes changed, trained in combat, now you’re superhuman.
Hotdogs need to include the buns
For becoming Spartan II and III, yes. Spartan IV, not so much. To be a IV, you just needed extensive military amd combat experience and proof that you were special even among those with extensive military and combat experiences.
IVE LITERALLY ALWAYS SAID THIS!!! it's so similar it's almost uncanny. extremely well trained fighters taken as kids to be chemically altered to fight an inhuman foe? sounds very similar to me
@@tristan3456 one difference: Spartans weren't created to fight an inhuman foe. They were created to fight humans, with the invasion of the Covenant happening shortly after some of the Spartans first missions against human targets. It just happened to be a lovely coincidence for the Information and Propaganda sectors. Though, even as the populace found out what happened, the majority just accepted it as "the ends justify the means."
@@the_SolLoserHuh now I'm thinking imagine if the kingdoms of the Witcher took control of a Witcher school to use witchers as their personal soldiers.
Masterchief Stalking the Prometheans scene was incredible, he is simply just a killing machine.
It's very interesting and scary to see the difference between the new Spartans and Halsey's Spartans. Halsey's were taken as kids, subjected to horrifying surgeries, brutal training, and a tiny survival rate in order to get strength, speed, and skills like master chief. They had to be children because adults couldn't control that strength and a single twitch would crumple their body. The ones that did make it ended up being by far the strongest people in the world by far. You could literally drop one spartan into a battlefield and they would take full control before the day was over.
The new Spartans are still superhuman, but they are weaker and slower than Halsey's Spartans. Their biggest strength was that they can be made in bigger numbers, so you could have full teams of Spartans rather than just one or two in a single location. They were also already adults with extreme combat skills, so they could be deployed much faster after they're made into Spartans.
I also noticed there's a difference in how the older and newer Spartans are named, like.... the older (using Blue Team as an example): John-117, Kelly-087, Linda-058, Frederic-104 and Samuel-034. These names have a serial number flavour to them, as if these Spartans are halfway between people and products. Whereas, the newer Spartans (using Team Osiris as an example): Jameson Locke, Olympia Vale, Holly Tanaka, Edward Buck.... all names firmly in the realm of human identity. The older Spartans are SUPERhumans, while the newer are SuperHUMANS.

If my understanding is correct the Spartans II program went online well before humanity even made contact with the covenant, which makes this even more messed up since they basically did this whole thing for a few rebels on some backwater planets. Halsey was a complete psychopath who was only vindicated by a freak cosmic coincidence.
🤓
“The Rookie” TV Shows, John Nolan finally Man’ed up.
The spartan 2 program was made due to an analysis by the UNSC that the conflict with the insurrection would eventually reach a point that would cause the splintering of humanity and it's eventual demise.
It was also due to the geass implanted in her by the librarian that compelled her to make both the spartan 2 program and the mjolnir armor system.
The Librarian had a lot to do with the Genesis of the SPARTAN II's. She spoke to Halsey through dreams, visions, and hypnotic suggestions. The techniques revealed to Halsey could not be conceived without the Forerunner's influence.
@@Nighthawke70Feels like some retroactive lore bs
So basically a Spartan is a Witcher of the future.
That’s probably one of the simplest and logical ways of explaining them.👍🏻

This sad part, is that a notable amount of Spartans ended discharged or dead, as result of the surgeries that were to grants them their superhuman features.
Wasn't that from the first few versions of the Spartan program though? I think Spartan IV's and up had much safer procedures
@@DHGxMcFlurry Spartan IIs had probably the most invasive enhancements with the highest losses. Spartan IIIs were simpler and they were basically creating mass-produced, revenge-fuelled, killing machines.
@@HubiKoshi Though that even if the risks of the Spartan II program were more higher, in the case of the succesfull Spartans, their physical enchancements are the best, in comparison with the Spartans IV and III.
Meaning that the Spartans II are like Quality above Quantity.
@DHGxMcFlurry Someone already said it, but the Spartan IIs were the highest quality
Laughs in warhammer 40 k
it's interesting the various means by ways the various spartans were created
Spartan 2's had the most dangerous augmentation process, yet were one of the most coveted military assests
Spartan 3's recieved their augmentations via chemical injection, eliminating any risk of debilitating condition or death, but they were also somewhat unstable and considered expendable
Spartan 4's recieved effectively a refined version of the spartan 2 augmentation process with very little risk, but their power level was constantly kept in check.
And spartans 1?
@@thoi637 spartan 1s were the building block which fueled the creation of future generations
@@deadponic117 but how they were made and how powerful?
@@thoi637 that i have no idea
@@deadponic117 Spartan 1s were less invasive augmentations to regular soldiers. The servicemen used for the program didn’t even know they were apart of it, because it was framed as standard medical procedures. Sgt Johnson is the most prominent Spartan 1, and the alterations it made to his nervous system is how he was so resistant to flood infection
Halo lore is so interesting man. Love the two-sided coin of a simple "kill the aliens, save humanity" plot for the games (the good ones anyway) and a very dark history of what actually led up to those events. Guess the people of earth can count themselves lucky that whatever psychotic bastard at the UNSC greenlit Halsey's work
I can totally see our future being like halo with the genetic modifications and so on but just hope that we never encounter the covanent
That psycho was a bungie developer 😂
that psychotic bastard would be Vice Admiral Margaret Parangosky, also known as the axeman, aka the Queen Bitch, aka the head of ONI, the one who signed off on not just the Spartan 2 program, but also the 3rd program and greenlit the 4th generation of Spartans. there's a really good scene in one of the Kilo 5 trilogy where Parangosky and Halsey finally have a showdown after everything has gone down and the UEC(Earth's civilian govt) is tryna get answers about the Spartans. Halsey finally gets arrested for her crimes and Parangosky interrogates her.
The Spartans were designed to kill their fellow humans... We just so happened to get invaded before the Spartans could be turned out
“The Rookie” TV Shows, John Nolan finally Man’ed up.
Spartans don't die. They just go Missing in Action.
Yeah like fanboys missed their self love supporting halo infinite😭
Adding Nathan Fillion (Serenity, The Rookie, etc) and Mike Colter (Evil, Marvel's Luke Cage) to this, both their voices and likenesses, brought more a sense of realism to this. I quite enjoyed it. Great job!!

"Hey... they flew pretty good for some bricks."
It's a wonder that the Spartan II's even had any love for humanity, let alone the unquestionable willingness to die for a race that they hardly even relate to.
They were trained to do so, it was stated in Halo the fall of reach that they were made for the greater good of humanity, so Spartans technically don't have love for the race they just see it as a mission to protect them. Only Spartan Grey Team were the most brutal, even towards their fellow humans.
If it takes 4 dudes in biohazard suits to put on your armor your badass

I followed Halo my whole life but couldn't finish that series. Why do they have to make up stuff when the cannon is so great as is?
Those gradians are awesome. what a wild ride that clip was.
it was known that the serum they injected couldnt work witout pre spartan surgery. in non applicable canidates it was known to completely cause hyper activity/ contractions in the muscle and bone to the point where it could bend back or just completely break/snap for no reason
The whole Spartan idea is sound, except for one flaw: The ground under their feet will not be able to handle that raw power as easily as it is repeatedly depicted.
Lol, it even says in the books numerous times that floors get pulverized when they start running

Always very intriguing to catch glimpses of a well thought out story. I'd like to see a well made movie of Halo, as I understand the one that already exists botched it much like Night Shyamalan did with The Last Airbender.
I like SF and the Halo lore has a ton of potential
Until someone who writes the Scripts aren't compelled to make the story their own, but instead follows the Lore of the Game and adapt it with respect to the Halo franchise, there won't be a satisfying Movie or Series.
Just look at the Halo Series, they kept the names, but butchered all the lore, they kept only surface level Halo stuff, and threw away it all for drama.
Because how can you have a series about a character within a huge vast world of lore without forced drama!!
I understand that its millions of dollars of investment, but why can't the investors realize that the millions of fans that actually knows about Halo would want to see the real Halo not some made up for TV nonsense being a good investment strategy.
@@enightc Yeah well as you said it's a big risk, and an investment is most likely from someone who is 1. at most marginally invested in the lore and 2. cares more about the money than the integrity of the adaptation
I actually quite liked the halo movie forward unto dawn I think it was called. Wasn’t perfect but I don’t think it did master Chief injustice
I've seen two Halo movies and liked them both -- although I really don't know how they stack up to 'official' lore. Fall of Reach was very interesting but it sounds like you're saying they really departed from established worldbuilding which is disappointing. But the other one I saw, Forward unto Dawn, was an excellent movie, imo. I would definitely recommend it to other sci-fi fans who aren't mainstream-halo folks.
@@rcb3921 forward unto dawn was an excellent movie, I love how the Spartans are portrayed in the film, like the cadets can’t believe what they are seeing
We all need community outrage and demand they continue the series!
What's interesting is that spartan 3s, in Carter's case, were intended to be mass produced versions of the master chiefs spartan 2s.
Spartan 4s were the more mass produced versions of Spartan 2s, Spartan 3s were more of cheaper suicide troops for extreme high risk missions they could not risk regular Spartans on. The last wave of them were highly mentally unstable requiring regular drug injections to keep them under control. Only after the program ended the surviving Spartan 3s gets folded into Spartan teams with mix of 2s, 3s and 4s.
that was the original plan, yes, but Kurt couldn't find more suitable candidates for the 3rd program so each class was either stuck to 300 to 400 slots, and by the end of the Onyx book, they're on the Gamma company so just think of how many unknown Spartans, hundreds of them, died taking on suicidal odds and friggin won. they were suicide shock troops through and through because of the kind of missions they took on and very few, like literally a handful of previous companies survived each mission to make up Noble Team.
This is by far the best game trailer I have ever seen. And the game was a masterpiece.

It's important to note that these are spartan 3s. Their process of becoming a spartan was much less intensive than the spartan 2s because it was rushed and the parameters of selection were lowered to allow for a large pool of candidates
This must be what Trigger went through before strider squadron.
4:21 Ghost Rider's Penance stare didn't work on Master Chief
I actually think of that opening scene of Carter-259 every time I donate platelets, except the temples. Too bad we aren't there yet, I'd be in a heartbeat.
The will helm scream at 2:49 makes no sense 💀
It’s really interesting to see that Spartan IIIs augmentations were better than the Spartan IIs and also had a 100% chance of survival thanks to medical advances, but then most of them were given subpar infiltrator armor instead of MJOLNIR armor only because of “budgetary constraints” lol
Is there a reason they're awake for the surgery? You'd think knocking them out would allow for more precision when drilling so they wouldn't risk death... or is it similar to the reason you're sometimes woken up in some brain surgeries: they need you awake so they know they're not hitting the wrong nerves?
Spartan 2s for life.
Impressive but they are not that advanced as the Nanosuit from the Crysis thinking now the suit had evolved beyond the human boundaries it makes it even further the reach but impressive.

No blood from the head? Two drills into the skull? Ain't no way any living being can take that awake; hell nah
Most realworld neurosurgery has to be done awake. They drill holes in the skull then use those holes to insert a jigsaw to cut connect the holes to remove a large portion of the skull . . . all while the patient is awake.
For some reason Fire Team Osiris deploying in that last cinematic always makes me think of Edward Cullen vampire-running in the twilight movie. As cool of a scene as it was, it was entirely unrealistic and looks like they were just kinda clicked and dragged around the screen while an avalanche went on in the background. Always thought it was kinda goofy and that the movement down the mountain was poorly done.
