The relationship with the Spartans and the ai is so interesting. Spartans are people built to be like a machine. And the ai are machines built to be like a person. Fused into one being through the armor
Eric Nylund, who wrote the first few Halo novels and most of the background lore, had an educational background in chemistry and physics, which is why much of the tech in the Bungie-era Halo games had such technical explanations for how they worked.
I think Master Chief mentioned once that after the event of Halo 4 he struggled to operate without cortana because he didn't need to ask for something, cortana was already doing what he wanted, they basically become one and Cortana saved directly master Chief life few times, back in installation 04 a Flood infector made his way throught the armour almost reached John's skin, Cortana overdrive the energy system to fry it
If you read the first 2 or 3 books of Halo, you can learn a lot about the Spartans and their trainings with and without the Armor. There is also a lot to learn about Master Chief and Cortana's relations in the second (?) book. I just recently discovered that there are more than only 3 Halo Books and I plan on reading them all soon.
I never considered how connected Cortana and John were trough the neural interface. It makes losing her more significant. She wasn't just a voice in his head, she was a part of him like a long time partner.
Don't forget part of the reason that the AI was given to spartans is to help them interface with humanity better. The spartan program kidnap and then brainwash children into being machines and since they behaved like machines they felt no attachment to humanity or the repercussions to the actions they take that may kill many humans as long as the goals they were given are achieved. The AI was there to guide them into being better humans once again (as well as other tasks that an AI can perform). Think of all the times Cortana chided John about his actions or the repercussion they may have.
God, the amount of detail and effort that went into this video, the capabilities of each gen of armor, the time they were in service, the time the next gen of armor began production, everything.. down to the smallest details, amazing work, truly.
Check out Installation 00. Great Halo TH-camr and makes super cool, super detailed breakdowns. Not to mention he’s trying to build mjornir as close to lore as possible irl
This actually deserves more attention like holy crap. Not to talk down on them, but this video was actually more detailed than a lot of the top Halo content creators' videos. Very informative and relaxing to watch
Your videos always have such a high level of quality production, intricate depth of the Halo extended lore, and attention to detail that it's genuinely sad that they aren't seen enough by the Halo community. I loved how you covered how armor has Evolved to Combat different stages of weaponry throughout history with the pros, cons, and compromises. The custom animations were also a great addition. When I saw the title, I was really hoping to see some footage or reference to The Prototype from Halo Legends, with it being a massive exoskeleton like the Mark I and II, but didn't need to be tethered and had a plethora of powerful offensive and defensive capabilities. Would have also loved to hear you describe some of the awesome features of the early models in addition to the downsides like extreme power consumption or cost but your video was already a mountain of information at half an hour long and I genuinely loved every minute of it! Even got goosebumps a few times from how cool everything was. I'm gonna go refresh my lore knowledge from your past videos. Amazing job as always!!! :D

@@pasindudinusha6507 I think what you meant was 'scientific' part, rather than science. In my understanding, the word 'science' means both the struggle to find knowledge and the knowledge itself, so it can be something like our own limited understanding of our world laws of physics or it can be someone's understanding of their own universe laws of physics (or the lack thereof) like things such as the commonly known/named as magic, psychic power etc. If we get to be more technical, even the power-system/magic-system in some fiction like 'Mother of Learning' that have their own well-defined parts of said power system is "methodologically" correct within their own universe and thereof 'scientific' in their own way. What I understand from your writing, what you want is actually 'our-world-physics's-scientifically-correct', and not just some mumbo jumbo regarding unobtainium and Shakespearean-influenced story plots which are prevalent in science fantasy. Never seen your channel before but this is an absolutely awesome video. The writers of halo seemingly went to great lengths and effort to make things reasonably possible with the current rate of technology advancement. Of course they did drop the ball on the piezoelectric crystal thing. Humans have known for a very long time that piezoelectric crystals both produce energy when deformed and deformed when energy is applied to them. In fact pretty much every single automotive direct fuel injected gas and Diesel engine use piezoelectric injectors.
What's new here is probably the level of strain this new piezo material goes through when subject to voltage. Having a material strain by 10% or more without yielding is quite a feat to pull off, which is why you don't see it used in any large-scale robotics application

The MARK IV is my favorite iteration of the MJOLNIR armor. I have been a massive Halo fan for years. In the last 2-3 years especially I have dived deep into Halo lore reading many books (multiple times) as well as the Halo Encyclopedia and reading the Halopedia to death. You're ability to condense it down to an entertaining, informative, and encompassing video is incredible. I greatly enjoyed watching this video and hearing it all again. Thank you.
Astonishing job! The amount of work that you put not only in the content of the video but the editing as well is amazing!I hope this video gets a ton more of views in the upcoming weeks, it very well deserves it. Thank you for such an lore-informative and smooth experience!
just a little correction: kevlar doesnt counter high powered bullets (since we talking about military weapons and protection), it counters shrapnel. Kevlar+ceramic or metallic plating stops high powered bullets, and only up to a certain caliber!
You can make rifle-rated flexible armor even without shear thickening fluid, for example Safe Life Defense Flexible Rifle Armor System by employing smart design and better commercially available material. Basic rule of creating really good ballistic armour is stacking many layer of 2 types of alternating materials that's optimized for 2 different purposes (akin to bullet resistant window), one high hardness material to break apart the kinetic penetrator and one high tensile, compressive and shear strength material to act as crumple zone to absorb kinetic energy of (hopefully) fragmented kinetic penetrator.
Sometimes people sleep on the fact that they watch a person because their voice is nice. This dude has a great voice and It’s my first video watching from him. Another person with an awesome voice who’s successful is Star Wars theory. People who can just listen to without cringing and that paired with good content make a great all around artist in this aspect.
After reading the Reach data pads it's clear to me that the AI Assembly influenced humanity or Halsey somehow to equip Spartans to be as overkill as they are for human standards cause they saw hostile first contact with aliens to be an inevitability and wanted to make sure that humanity was as prepared as it could be.
Chainmail would protect you from cuts; padded armore was worn under it, but you would still be injurred from blunt force trauma. You can't slice through chainmail.
@@chrispellegrin People didn't wear gambison and chainmail because it kinda worked; I think chainmail being sliced open would have been quite rare. It would either be the result of poor craftsmanship (nobody would want to buy their mail), or it being hit a lot without maintenance.
@@jonathanbetenbender307 Yeah no slicing of chain mail but it was very weak against thrusts, and spears were the main weapon of war, swords were more of a secondary weapon for the rich. That's what made plate armor so terrifying to go against, you were most likely a peasant with a spear going against a guy you can't really poke with your weapon. As for sword fights the stuff depicted in media is pure fantasy, sword fight were short, a sword fight between 2 unarmored opponents would usually end in a few seconds after a feint or two and maybe a parry. Combat between 2 armored opponents was basically a wrestling match, the idea is to tackle the other guy to the ground so gaps in his armor are easier to exploit, then using a dagger to poke at the joints etc. There is quite a few videos on youtube of what realistic medieval plate armor sword fights looked like.
No one, and nothing, will ever make me appreciate Halo except this. The Piezoelectric Effect is such a masterstroke of Sci-Fi writing that I hesitate trying to come up with an alternative system of motor control for such an exo-skeleton. I don’t care for the story, the war criminals, the shallow thematics, gameplay or any of that. There are geniunely well thought out concepts here that I want to know more about.
12:47 btw that's a real life thing, your basic Bic lighter work like this, you put the Piezo under pressure and their you got your spark that light up the fluid...
I've always thought that Science Fiction was one of the factors that accelerated technology advancements the most. Every sci-fi work has shared a vision, an ideal of what technology could do. And when the right minds have the vision, they can make that vision a reality.
This is an excellent video. You've started in my real history and connected it to a futuristic fantasy world that I have enjoyed using a reasonable and logical story. Excellent work!
I’ve been such a halo nerd since I was a little kid that I know everything about the lore better than most of the big channels but I still sit here and listen to this absentmindedly, why I wonder
I like how you hand-waved away four hundred years (1600s to 2000s) like there was a seamless progression from suits of armour to kevlar, and then claimed that exoskeleton progress was 'slow'.
There has been a massive rate of advancement within the last 100 years, whether in weapons, or on armor systems. It can only be expected that it would slow, at some point.
some might have notice mk7 got skipped, good reason for that, it never hit production with only a few suits worth of parts ever being made and only one complete suit actually being constructed and deployed, its was used as a testbed prototype for gen2 variable modular systems with the greater power of gen1
@@kamaro3695 i mentioned that, she was the test operator for the prototype, the only others ever made were never assembled into complete suits, hence it never entering production since only the development prototypes were ever built and said parts were really only used in combat out of necessity, the war was going on and they were hideously expensive parts so why not use them if the opportunity arises
Now I'm expecting a teacher to come in and say we are having an exam about this and it leads up to us possibly graduating from spartan history and moving forward to in the field spartan armor training
The part about how an AI works was a bit off, but the rest seems legit. I always appreciate SameToken’s videos on this kind of stuff, the science is my favorite part about Halo
@@SameToken Incredible video! I don't see anything that was a bit off, I learned a vast array of new detail I did not know! However, I thought a neat dynamic regarding AI and MJOLNIR was missing. In the Fall of Reach, newly acquainted Cortana and John perform a test exercise of their new integration effectiveness in which they ultimately defelect a SkyHawk launched scorpion missle with John's left palm. Dr. Halsey adds a fascinating detail regarding further improved reaction time via AI integration above the already boosted neural implant/MJOLNIR response time - another encyclopedic-level bit 🤓 "Cortana resides in the interface between your mind and the suit, Master Chief. You will find your reaction time greatly improved. She will be translating the impulses in your motor cortex directly into motion-she can’t make you send those impulses.” Cheers to a great video!
In relation to Power Armor in general, Mjolnir-style or not, I really am starting to think that some kind of compact ICE engine, combined with a electric generator, might actually be the key in major breakthroughs for viable Power Armor. That, or at least a step in the right direction! We can build ICE engines that fit into RC toys, for Librarians sake. Why not something that can fit on the back of a power-armored soldier? As long as it was powerful and efficient enough, without being too heavy or bulky, it might actually be viable for combat applications. It's also a fairly proven technology that we've had for at least a hundred years, so developing and building a PA-scaled ICE engine should, hypothetically at least, be possible with present-day technology. =^x^=
This is really awsome, your way of telling, way of explaining the various bits, like if you are listening to an actual war-based documentary. Truly amazing :)

@@nickolaswilcox425 we can make a micro nuclear reactor. Except the smallest version would still occupy the bed of a pick-up truck.
@@DigitalDNA And if the fire team has the misfortune of being in a grid square being erased by MLRS, you are cracking open a fission reactor which is kinda bad. Fusion reactors if cracked just kinda puff out whatever was plasma and go dead.
I love the background music you chose for this video. Really matches the technology and armor theme
Dude where you at??? Any new videos coming?
What a brilliant video...... this almost felt like a high-class documentary, enjoyed every second of it.
just a little correction: kevlar doesnt counter high powered bullets (since we talking about military weapons and protection), it counters shrapnel.
Kevlar+ceramic or metallic plating stops high powered bullets, and only up to a certain caliber!
Actually there are soft Kevlar armors that can stop rifle rounds
@@Nr15121 any examples or sources? Never heard or pure kevlar armor stopping rifle rounds
@@FanEAW level 3 armor stops up to i believe 308
@@Nr15121 you are correct on both statements
You can make rifle-rated flexible armor even without shear thickening fluid, for example Safe Life Defense Flexible Rifle Armor System by employing smart design and better commercially available material.
Basic rule of creating really good ballistic armour is stacking many layer of 2 types of alternating materials that's optimized for 2 different purposes (akin to bullet resistant window), one high hardness material to break apart the kinetic penetrator and one high tensile, compressive and shear strength material to act as crumple zone to absorb kinetic energy of (hopefully) fragmented kinetic penetrator.
What’s crazy is that none of this is 500 years away.
Highly dependant upon the quality of chainmail.
@Eagle3302PL Preaching to the choir, my friend.
I hope you're doing okay, man.
I hope you cover more games like this in depth with your great descriptions, and passion. Keep up the amazing work my guy. 👍
There are geniunely well thought out concepts here that I want to know more about.
perfect after a hard day, thank you for your high level of quality production :D
Speaking of smart AI, this makes me wonder if the forerunners used the same process Halsey did creating Cortana to create the Contender Class AI.
This man really is the best Halo youtuber when it comes to lore and pretty much everything else
it's been over a year man where are you? :(
How mjolnir works? It protect, it attack. But most of all... it look badass 😎
*Heroic pose*
12:47 btw that's a real life thing, your basic Bic lighter work like this, you put the Piezo under pressure and their you got your spark that light up the fluid...
A great writer knows how to start with an anecdote or history synopsis. Draws the listener or reader in. Good work.
Are you done uploading 😢. I miss you man… we all do 🥺😭😭
26:59 this is like an ad I love it
When a youtube video about halo armour is more entertaining than the halo tv show
This feels like a real documentary the spartans would watch while in school history class
Damn it really has been 8 months since we've gotten an upload :(
Follow HiddenXperia, he post great halo content as well pretty regularly.
2:36 fookin laser sights
I've always thought that Science Fiction was one of the factors that accelerated technology advancements the most. Every sci-fi work has shared a vision, an ideal of what technology could do. And when the right minds have the vision, they can make that vision a reality.
ima gine how long these videos took to edit. this guy deserves more subscribers
Please come back
I felt like a student in a history class 50-100 years past the Halo aftermath.
I love the way this feels like a discovery channel doc
I like how you hand-waved away four hundred years (1600s to 2000s) like there was a seamless progression from suits of armour to kevlar, and then claimed that exoskeleton progress was 'slow'.
There has been a massive rate of advancement within the last 100 years, whether in weapons, or on armor systems. It can only be expected that it would slow, at some point.
Tales of zale is a cute indie film, most of the characters are owls.
Really cute, I highly recommend!
tf thx anyways
some might have notice mk7 got skipped, good reason for that, it never hit production with only a few suits worth of parts ever being made and only one complete suit actually being constructed and deployed, its was used as a testbed prototype for gen2 variable modular systems with the greater power of gen1
One girl got it accually
@@kamaro3695 i mentioned that, she was the test operator for the prototype, the only others ever made were never assembled into complete suits, hence it never entering production since only the development prototypes were ever built and said parts were really only used in combat out of necessity, the war was going on and they were hideously expensive parts so why not use them if the opportunity arises
does anyone know what happened to this guy? his videos are all so high quality and i love them, but he hasn't posted anything in a year
"There'll be Another Time..."
Now I'm expecting a teacher to come in and say we are having an exam about this and it leads up to us possibly graduating from spartan history and moving forward to in the field spartan armor training
This is, hands down, the greatest video I have ever seen.
The part about how an AI works was a bit off, but the rest seems legit. I always appreciate SameToken’s videos on this kind of stuff, the science is my favorite part about Halo
Hey thanks for watching! I always try to be as accurate as possible, what was off about the AI? So glad you enjoyed! :)
Dr. Halsey adds a fascinating detail regarding further improved reaction time via AI integration above the already boosted neural implant/MJOLNIR response time - another encyclopedic-level bit 🤓
"Cortana resides in the interface between your mind and the suit, Master Chief. You will find your reaction time greatly improved. She will be translating the impulses in your motor cortex directly into motion-she can’t make you send those impulses.”
Cheers to a great video!
Hey same token!!!!!
Glad to see you back again!
Loce your vids and started to miss you and your content.
Ive never played Halo, but I love that this entire video was taken from the perspective of a history lesson in the year 2600
In relation to Power Armor in general, Mjolnir-style or not, I really am starting to think that some kind of compact ICE engine, combined with a electric generator, might actually be the key in major breakthroughs for viable Power Armor. =^x^=
Glad to see another upload man, great vid as always
miss you.
This is really awsome, your way of telling, way of explaining the various bits, like if you are listening to an actual war-based documentary. Truly amazing :)
Thank you so much for all your in-depth videos. I’m planning on writing a halo book (2, if you count the “117: Heroes never die” billboard novel I’m writing because no one else will and I SERIOUSLY want to see that) and it wouldn’t be possible without your library of halo lore.
Not to mention that I use these as podcasts while I’m waiting. Amazing content as always, Token.
Nice. What's it going to be about?
Damn, this was like an actual documentary. Well done.
We miss you! Please come back :(
Excellent quality
I really loved this video, the way you told the story of the evolution of MOJLNIR armors is marvelous. I love the engineering aspect of the video with the music. Thank you for this
2:35 my man giving me flashbacks to Thatcher's trailer from R6.
Great video!
Amazingly produced, written, and researched video!
Your videos are somehow getting even better! Keep up the great work!
You really produce the best halo content on TH-cam, I will be awaiting your next upload
At the beginning of the video at 1:54 you could say “as combat evolved”. Halo pun intended
This is Art, how the video is composed
This is an amazing overview. Well done
