@@deepsquat600 Yup. I bought E92-M3 with 42k miles, dumped the motor oil immediately of course and then changed every fluid except for the AC, coolant, diff, trans, brakes/clutch and steering. Oil is cheap, even the expensive stuff relatively speaking, hardware and labor is NOT.
Perfect ! Well done, i like that you also can fiddle and do some mistakes from time to time, and that you dont edit that out, and dont stop being Focused !
I’ve been checking the E92 M3 market via cars.com and autotrader and they have been flying off the market recently. I really should have bought one when I had the chance...
Jarvis Wagner don’t sweat it. Those will eventually come down in value when M2’s or some other car is discontinued or replaced. BMW is all about the hype
How is fluids $1000. I have a e60 m5 and I can get a full diff change kit with the oem fm booster and two bolts for $152, redline transmission fluid kit with the filter bolt for $125, and liqui moly engine oil kit for $97.
I just added it up. I'm $717.46 into simple maintenance parts: Fluids kits, cabin air filter, wipers, etc. But that does include floor mats as well. It sure felt like a thousand bucks when I was buying all this crap. I still have to flush the coolant.
@@ObsessedGarage Oh, okay. That makes more sense. I think general maintenance on a BMW isn't as expensive as people put it out to be. It just costs more for the labor.
Awesome video Matt, I been looking to buy an E92 M3 for a while I currently own an e46 M3 but this machine is something else I am interested once you want to sell please keep me in mind
After pulling my trans "filter" I would strongly recommend NOT purchasing a replacement like I did, it's a stainless mesh screen that appears essentially INDESTRUCTIBLE, pull it, clean it but don't waste money on a replacement IMO.
@@ObsessedGarage Helpful video, subbed. I used Mobile 1 LS in my diff and I'm going to replace it right away because the diff now behaves very badly, maybe it only needs an additional modifier but I'm going to dump it and use something else.
$1000 for fluids!!!. Like you said the maintainens cost for German cars( specially high performance) is CRAZY. And to motifey them it gets even crazier. Take for exp. The price of a full exhaust for the M3 in comparison with like GT 350. It is double the price in the M3 but what you are getting in terms of guility is the same. Personally buying a $43000 vehicle and then have to pay close to 10% of that only for pair of muffler is nuts!, and it would take away my enjoyment of modifying the car. Feeling like getting robbed on every part you buy.
Competley agree I own a 4 door version of the m3 that Matt owns and it's insane. I'm actually looking at a Camaro SS 1le or a mustang GT Peformance Pack due to the high maintaince and repair costs of the m3.
@@Heymeit I am sure you can get away with lubrication, for way less. But if you do everything OEM and buy every nut and bolt new, and go overboard on everything like Matt usually does. It gets up from only be expensive to being crazy. Overall modern German cars are way overpriced and the maintaince cost is nuts and modifying flat out crazy. If you think about the $$$. And the overpriceing on everything kills the resale value. On everything else then the 911's
@@Heymeit I assume Matt is including labor for the 3 fluid changes. Because other wise there's no way the fluid and parts will get close to 1k even if u buy only BMW branded parts.
searched youtube for a "how to clean seatbelts" video, and surprised you hadn't done one. bought a used car and think there's a few years of accumulated make up on there
YOU DO NOT NEED THE TRANS OIL FILTER!...it's a simple stainless mesh screen that can be easily cleaned if necessary and reused forever, it's indestructible, wasted a some $30 on a new filter I'll never need in 200k miles. (trivial but....) Changed diff oil at 47k as new 2nd owner, 2011 manual, a little clutch plate grit came out but not a lot, first used Mobile 1 and the diff behaved fine at any normal speed but it would begin to engage slightly when turning tight at very low sp.s in a parking lot, I changed it again (forget the brand but high end) and still it would behave slightly wrong at walking speed tight turns. *FINALLY I bowed my head and went to BMW dealer* and laughed over the counter when they quoted me $150 for less than 3 quarts....but damned if it didn't SEEM to fix the problem and they had it on the shelf ....I was toying with idea of rebuilding diff so if gold plated superduper BMW oil fixes it?? Sheesh...it stunk as exactly like all the rest back to the 1980's. (most wouldn't even notice the diff misbehavior, subtle but I'm tight with my machines barely an issue and only one so far)
The car is 5 years old. Transmission and differential fluid should have been changed at least twice. I change both mine every two years. He’s being smart. This isn’t a Honda Civic. This car actually burns it’s differential fluid.
eemeli rantalainen You don’t judge a fluids condition by how it looks. Put a thermocouple on the diff, go the track every time the fluid gets burnt. These diffs don’t hold enough fluid. This isn’t debatable.
I love to see it pour out 'clean' looking. If the car is used but new to me or it has enough yr.s or miles on it, it's coming out no matter what. (speaking of this type of car, not an old Honda necessarily)

Exactly. Just like m539 restorations.
wish every car owner would change engine oil, trans oil, diff oil and logged it. Next owner always appreciates
true, however not every car owner has the same room, tools, lift that Matt has.
Thats why every time I have bought a used car the first thing I do is change the trans fluid... maybe for the cars first time ....

Most people don't even do that much. Will be doing it to my E90 Changed the motor oil but have to do the rest.
Love this guy, so much respect. Always take his time in what he is doing.
The timing of these videos are perfect haha I keep watching the ones from the week now that it's the weekend then boom - 7 minutes ago, new video 😄
Those bottles are genius! I wish I had those when I did mine.
LOL. Selling this before putting 15.000 more miles on it. :) So you are getting the Audi R8 next?

Check out the Motive power fill pump
everywhere like a very clean hospital
For the e9x m3 after filling you need to rev to 2000rpm and once up to temp...you fill more..fyi
when should i change my differential fluidon my e92 m3? tks
The wash/detailing videos are great, but I also love me some "wrenching" videos. Keep the crazy coming my friend.
People like to give me a hard time for not working on cars. I say why the heck would you unless there was something that needed to be done? Ha, ha..

Funny, I've been shopping 80s air cooled lately....
Love the vids and the car! Keep IT up👍🏼
Matt, I’ve heard of some guys using 2 bottles of transmission fluid, and some who need 2.5 bottles. Did you need more than 2 bottles?
I think I used right at 2.
The manual is listed as 2.5L of oil. Diff at 1.1L
Is it a good idea to flush the coolant as well?
I think so. It's on the list. Brake fluid will also get done when I install the Brembos.
Im glad to say my days of having to maintain my own car are well behind me. Better to have a man who can
Some people do it because it's cheaper and they love to do it..
Is the transmission fluid change the same process for DCT?
I think it is rather similar.
