    I'm currently in the market for a 2012-2013 E92 or E93 and never thought I would be interested in my own maintenance. Thanks for the videos and looking fwd to getting my hands dirty. Best!

      Yeah might as well learn and save some money! Plus there's a certain satisfaction about accomplishing things like this yourself

    Hey bubby thanks for the video. I need to do this to my car and you showed me what i needed to see. I am a car guy so simplicity on diy videos is important to me. But I feel obligated to give you some serious advise. NEVER use any jack as a stand. Never get under a car that is held by a jack. Jacks fail. Always use a jack stand and make sure it is secure. I shake my car hard before i get under it. Stay safe so you can do more videos.

    Drive M3 to warm diff. Jack up so it is level -(Important!) Get magnetic drain plug. (Turnermotorsport) Let drain for an hour. Fill and torque to 37 ft-lbs. Get a OTC (2359) Oil Suction Gun on Amazon. $19 for next time (can use on diff & tranny). It sucks and fills and is made for gear oil. Good video! 👍

    Great tips. Can't emphasize enough to remove fill plug first. If you drain it first and find out the full plug is sized then you're screwed.

      How about having the car close to level so that it's refilled to correct volume? The way he has it the oil level would appear to be a little high.

    This will incorrectly drain and incorrectly fill your diff since you did both with the car in a non level position... Please do a drain and fill of the diff with the car in a level position.. DO NOT do as the video shows.. not only will you not drain all the fluid out, esp the last few oz of fluid which is the most important in a diff drain, but you will also incorrectly fill your diff which can cause damage. Thumbs down for misinformation of how to do this DIY.

      Very good opinion Senad.I was wondering how Brandon knew how much oil to put when his car was in so "silly" position.I hope all lads have read your comment.

  • @Mrbfgray
    @Mrbfgray 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would only suggest leveling the car (not easy in your or my situation I know) to ensure proper refill level is achieved? Good tips, I have a very similar 2011 and plan to do that same maintenance soon.

    Always good to fill new oil when the drain bolt is off to flush out any remaining old oil. Thanks for the DIY :D

    • @Mrbfgray
      @Mrbfgray 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always do that too, including engine oil, waste a little via pouring some fresh in, maybe half a quart, and letting it drain from the hole(s) until it comes out mostly clean.

    • @horemustjugen6677
      @horemustjugen6677 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i know this comment is 3 years old, but you should flush out the old oil completely by pouring in obviously, thats the definition of a flush.... this video is more like a differential oil change

      Glad to help! But per the comments below, apparently it's not recommended to tilt the car slightly up on one side temporarily. 😀

  • @dec3649
    @dec3649 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You're supposed to lift the whole car when doing diff fluid change to get all the fluid out and put the right amount in. From what I can see in the video, you only lifted the rear, and then even lifted the passenger side higher.

  • @ralphralphin
    @ralphralphin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    cool video, how often do they recommend you change the fluid?

    • @ShiftedPerspective
      @ShiftedPerspective  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ralph Burrows seems like 30k or so miles is good although BMW doesn't recommend it until much later.

    NOTE: For those dumping E9X-M3 trans oil--don't bother spending $27 (or whatever) on replacement filter, it's a stainless screen that's essentially indestructible, pull it, clean if necessary, reinstall.

      Haha, new to my e92 M3, but not new to DIY car maintenance. I recently paid a dealership around 700 dollars to do something, that when I later researched, would have taken me 2 hours and 30 dollars in parts to do on my own time. I won't be repeating that again. Once again, thanks for the video =)

    • @hamsterbrigade

      crazythedon it was minor. The rear passenger spring needed two new spring pads. i find BMW labor costs are excessively high where I live. In Miami it can get up to 250 dollars an hour. Where I live it's around 200 unless you take it to a good Indy shop.

    • @hamsterbrigade

      crazythedon thanks man. You're right about the good Indy shop. I believe I found one, they charge 120 an hour so not as nice as your situation though. 😊.

    Awesome videos man. Been following you for a about a month now. I got my M3 about 2 months ago and it had 41k miles on it. Thanks to your vid, I am actually thinking about doing this myself. Are you planning to do any interior detailing and repairs? When I got my car, there were few scratches and scuffs on the leather and is definitely one of my top priorities this summer to take care of that. Anyways wanted to say again cool vids bro.

    • @ShiftedPerspective
      @ShiftedPerspective  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The interior is mint so it doesn't need much besides vacuuming and leather treatment. I'll have to get to that soon.

    I don't know if it was a fluke but I changed my diff oil twice, 1st with Mobile 1 and second time with Ravenol, both of those left me with a diff that worked fine in most driving conditions but behaved strangely sometimes at very low spd.s tight turns in a parking lot--it would begin to slightly lock-in when it shouldn't....I resorted to the unthinkable went to BMW dealer for their gold plated diff oil for laughable $150 for 3 little bottles, but damned if that didn't SEEM to do the trick.

    Hey Brandon. I know you've been getting some hate on how you had your car shifted to one side on this project. However, I understand why you did that. I just completed the differential flush myself tonight and I noticed that when I took the fill plug out first, there was actually some fluid that drained out first (with the bottom drain plug still attached to the differential). It wasn't a lot but it was still a good amount that slowly drained out for a few minutes. So I had also shifted my car a little bit to the side as well when I was refilling the differential fluid to try to maybe get it a little bit closer and match the incoming fluid level to the outcoming fluid level. In the end, I still used about 2.5 bottles of the fluid. I didn't raise the passenger side of the car as high as you did but just a little bit higher than level. Also, I noticed that on the differential fluid bottle, there's a date on there. Do you happen to know if that date is the manufactured date of the fluid or the expiration date of the fluid? I just bought my fluid from Turner Motorsport last week and it had a date of 2016 on the bottle. Hopefully they didn't send me expired differential fluid...

Check out my TH-cam channel and I think I already follow you on IG and you follow me too check out my pics. Greatly appreciate your content.

    shoulda jacked it a bit higher on driver side in the beginning, might have got more of the old fluid out

    Nice car....but NEVER get underneath a vehicle partially supported by a floor jack...only jack stands or ramps!!! Safety first.

    The E92 M3 differential only takes 1.1 liters of fluid. You add more than twice this amount. You don’t know what you are doing.

  • @xxstefanmxx
    @xxstefanmxx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is definitely NOT how to flush your diff, this is wrong on so many levels i don´t even want to begin explaining it here. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR CAR IF ANYONE SEES THIS

  • @davidpritchard1365
    @davidpritchard1365 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You added too much oil! You are going to blow up your diff.
