Wow! Thank you for this. My 2009 Z4 35i has 144,000 miles on it but have never changed the DCT transmission fluid. It had 72,000 on the car when I bought it so I doubt it’s ever been changed and I don’t have any service records prior to me buying the car. Your video is the first one I’ve found regarding the DCT trans oil change. It’s not leaking but I think it’s long overdue for an oil service.
I know right! They really make things difficult on purpose to overcharge at the dealership. Also yea, it’s messy especially without a lift. Glad it’s not leaking anymore though, *fingers crossed.
What are the symptoms of a transmission service as ive had a transmission fault light and it said limited gear selection and idk if it needs a gearbox service
Can you just replace the rubber gasket and reuse the pan? If i do it, fill the fluid until it overflows then start the engine, then fill again until it flows out and hand tight the fill plug. When the temp reaches the temp., remove the fill plug to have access fluid to run out. I think it's easier this way.
Nice diy, thanks! My transmission on a ‘12 m3 e93 has 52k miles. I’ve been thinking about doing a drain and replacement of the fluid without replacing the filters since it’s lower miles. Do you have an idea how much of the 6.5 liters came out just from the drain plug?
Thanks for the comment. I didn’t check the exact amount that came out prior to doing the filters, but I would say about 5.5 to 6L of fluid. It’s best to get 6 bottles for a safe bet.
Thanks for the helpful information. I noticed though you said you drained 6.5 liter but then added 5.5 to 6.0. Is this because you reached 104 Fahrenheit and intend to add additional fluid once it cools and is back in the temperature range to add? Also the foxwell tool is capable of performing the oil balancing function which engages 1/3 with minimum pressure and maximum cooling during the final fluid add.
Thanks I knew about the final 1/3 filling but I didn’t have a tool to perform that. I will probably go back and do the final fill when I have the time. As for the amount drained I’m guessing it was overfilled slightly from the factory. I could probably get a little more in there but it takes time and the car heats up quickly.
Any update on this? Got about 100k on mine and pan is seeping. wanting to do this on my own and save about 2k from a shops quote cheers Also how much oil went back in? was it the full 6.5 that came out?
Hey Sal, are there anything else after filling the fluid other than resetting the service date? It seems just like a engine oil service lol. Thanks for the vid anyway! Imma do it tomorrow!
Nice video Sal (your others as well), thanks. Did I missunderstand or did you drained 6.5q but only filled in 5.5-6q? Also curious, have you use Protool to reset your DCT adaptation? Ps. Final one, you on M3post? Thanks!
@Sals_Garage I don't have one of those special tools. Also my service kit didn't come with a filter. I'm just wondering what type of oil you recommend and how much I need to buy in litres? I can't understand the American measurement
Hey sal any future plans to replace the mechatronics sleeve o ring on top of the trans. Thats the source of my dtc leak. I guess it’s doable with leaving the trans mounted.
It’s possible to drop the transmission enough to fit your arm in there but it’s a tight fit and without a lift I won’t be tackling that job in my carport 😆 there might be some access to it from above. I saw it clearly when doing the starter replacement. Good luck 👍
Thanks! I haven’t noticed any changes in shifting quality. I mainly did this for high mileage maintenance and also to fix my weeping trans oil pan. So far, no issues or leaks 🤞
@@Sals_Garage thank you for getting back to me. I have just bought an e92 M3 competition pack and the car has 47k on the clock but I was thinking of getting it done as well as the car is coming up to 10 years old now

Great video and like how thorough you are! Did you happen to have the part number or a link for the oil cooler o rings as guessing the old ones aren't reused?
Yes, it should take about another quart of fluid until it spills out again. Need to make sure the fluid temperature is in the correct fill range of 80-120 degrees Fahrenheit.
@@Sals_Garage okay and I don’t actually have the app that would tell me what the temp is at how long did it take you to get to that temperature so I can time it on my phone to do it
