BattlefiendHrush Agreed. Plus I didn't like in NV how certain areas were essentially blocked off at the beginning of the game (freaking cazadores). I also felt that the story in 3 was more interesting, but that may just be personal preference. I certainly felt that 3 had more character. But both games are excellent and deserve to be played.
BattlefiendHrush I hated the subway/sewer system in Fallout 3. I also loved the added Hardcore mode in NV, made me feel a lot more involved with the game, and still kept me from being an unkillable murder machine like I was in 3. That being said, 3 had way more memorable set-pieces, and that "wow" factor that NV was sorely lacking. Basically, give me fallout 3 with NV gameplay for Fallout 4, and you will have perfection ...minus the game breaking glitches that is ;)
Jim from DBPG It's a Bethesda game; no way does it come without a healthy selection of bugs and glitches for us to sort through. Hopefully at least, there will be some hilarious ones.
Never used it,feels kinda boring to let the computer aim for you, also its kinda op that it pauses time in older games,i remember using it only when i was about to die
It made sense and was actually a pretty cool mechanic in the first two games, since they're turn-based, but I didn't mind its inclusion in the new games, even if it's lame. It's completely pointless in 76, though.
Vats was great for close range fire fights.... At longer range it was only good if you invested Perks/skills/SPECIAL It's was a needed mechanism in fallout 3 and NV, for both Lore (because fallout 1 & 2 had it) and because the Oblivion engine that the games were based on didn't do FPS well, so they needed a mechanism to balance things out... Keep in mind that Fallout is supposed to be an RPG first and everything else second (FPS action, or turn based second)
@@machscga6238Maybe that's what made me bored to death in New Vegas, then ran back to the sweet feeling of nuking things in Fallout 4. If I don't like a faction or an ideology I simply will never play with it. I've never joined the NCR, House, Rail Road or Brotherhood, I simply don't think they're right, roleplaying is definitely not my thing
New Vegas had some excellent side quests and just plain cool hidden stuff. Personal highlights include reuniting the enclave, doing companion side quests (which were actually done well), resurfacing an old bomber, and lots more
Badabing Bing agreed! One of them had a cool premise involving schoolchildren, but played out so damn generically it was actually frustratingly disappointing. This game has so much potential but the quests all seem to just be interesting premises with poor follow up and execution.
I think New Vegas and Fo3 were both good in different ways. New Vegas had a western feel that I loved, and interesting factions/DLC. Fo3 felt big, and desolate, with settlements spread few and far. It felt like a true post-apocalyptic world. And I really enjoyed the backstory and the drive for the main character. (Although I can get why some found the protag's background too restrictive, role play-wise.)
I'm pretty sure the only reason people like Fallout 3 more is because of nostalgia and when it came out. Especially those who claim it had a superior story. The New Vegas open desert setting was crap compared to DC but just about everything else was better. Memorable characters, a story that made sense, awesome atmosphere and lore as well as a damn good looking Vegas. Just played both games back to back.
Actually, I hated Fallout 3 when it came out. I bought and it was so similar to Oblivion I felt sick (I returned it). Around a year later after watching people play it on TH-cam I decided to give it another try. Never looked back. I'm happy I found this video, I'm actually taking a break from the most comprehensive playthrough I've done of the game. I've been playing it for 3 days straight....... I NEED a break.
"A game that makes you pick up absolutely everything" ...yeah, I went from Fallout 4 to Fallout 3...I'm still tying to grab things that are apparently not actually things, so not even close yet.
Watched this four times, still hilarious. Edit: I ain't even mad that you thought Fo4 was going to be godlike in comparison. Also the Tale of Two Wastelands mod is everything.
I know this is incredibly late, but he meant that this game was only considered good until New Vegas came out, then it was considered great (in compared to New Vegas before it became a cult classic), and that it (fallout 3) would become Godlike in comparison to Fallout 4
Things that are better in NV: Weapon sights, crafting, very cool character in the dlc, more types of soda Things that are better in 3: Every other thing
Ethan Awesome I remember when I started to head north of Goodsprings. I had only been fighting geckos, radscorpions and petty raiders. And oh god I have been slaughtered by those insects
Hey, at least that DLC was one that was worth buying because it wasn't just some cosmetic work-overs or item packs that you could just as easily patch in with a mod.
I loved New Vegas, mostly due to it having WAY more guns. I had the Terminator 2 styled lever action shotgun. I was 'bad to the bone...DANANANANA' for over 200 hours. Too bad it kept on glitching out when you reloaded.
Right? I had such high hopes for the next gen fallout, I mean anything had to be better than the steaming poo pile that is new vegas, but if 4 is better, it's just barely better, and that's sad. Kinda like how skyrim just plain sucks compared to oblivion.
John m I don't want them to do Halo 5, I want them to do all Halos prior to this in one go. Fallout 4 is announced and they immediately did Fallout 3. Why not do Halos 1-4? H5G was the first game showcased at E3... :/
josh11735 OOOH I understand now. Still Fallout 4 has been a long time coming and is one of those big games that most people thought was just never coming out (Half-Life 3, Last Guardian, Shenmue 3, FF7) so this game being announced is a lot more monumental than Halo 5
Why is everyone shitting on New Vegas and saying it's boring? It has the best start ever. In fact it's so good, I think it's the best. Second to Mass Effect 2's start of course
New Vegas a supposedly open world game that makes you go south then west then north because if you try to go in any other direction from the start its death by cazador or death by ,well deathclaw... then you get to Vegas and it's small... the whole game is basically desert and mountains...
Matoro Zeliph Ah hatred, I tried it, its not even gory, its just that the NPC screams a lot, but they're so stupid, who in the right mind would run up close to a person who has a flamethrower just to pick up a pistol!? seriously, the game is boring, the objective is kill, yes, but it just gets so repetitive and the ending sucked. The destruction and physics were cool looking though.
CaitSeith Yeah, in the end all the hype must've turned into disappointment. Still, the gameplay was nice, they just need to fix the camera and the objectives should be more interesting.
that1dude0092 Speaking of Hatred. Yathzee made a Zero Punctuation video in The Escapist website. His point in the controversy (specially because Hatred is banned in his country) goes to the obvious point in 8 simple words: *Banny game make people wanty game more duh!*
Welp, Fallout 3-2: Electric Boogaloo has been out for a while now. I dropped it about 25 hours in after finding out the Mayor of Diamond City is working for the Institute but not being able to do anything about it because "haha you haven't done enough of the main story yet and player freedom doesn't matter anymore :^)" Now I'm back to New Vegas again.
On Fallout 3, is posible to reach Vault 112 at any point of the game, so if a new player found it by accident, s/he will skip half the plot. Which is the least evil?
Drudley Hack the terminal in his office. Pretty incriminating shit in it but you're literally not allowed to do anything at all about it until you've completed the main quest because it's meant to be a post-game quest. I couldn't even take the law into my own hands because "haha the mayor is tagged essential until you get up to this specific trigger in the quest :^)"
Zachary Doney That's not how i see it. Yes Man becoming more assertive means there will be something keeping the courier on his toes. Some new adventure after the retirement. At this point Courier has done some badass stuff so far. He can handle Yes Man's eventual rebellion.
Fallout 4... A game full of build your own settlements, random monsters to shoot, and unmemorable meaningless quests. New Vegas, a fun approach to Fallout with a ton of missing bits towards the end, very clearly rushed for release but decent enough for a years work. Fallout 3, out of the Bethesda Fallouts it has the most in terms of player choice to most quests and an engaging enough main story to keep me much more interested in replaying it.
wwetitle818 I played it for the first time two years ago: £10 for the Game of the Year Edition, 100+ hours - where do you get value like that these days??
wwetitle818 It's probably my favorite game of all time. You can totally dump dozens or even hundreds of hours into it there's so much to explore. Now days it's only a buck or two on Amazon, or like $5 at Gamestop. I myself have spent countless hours just immersed and wandering the wasteland. It was definitely an experience. Get it! :)
If I were about to play a Fallout game, what would you guys recomend me to play between this one and New Vegas? Both plotwise and from a gameplay perspective.
ToM92MoT fallout 3 atmospherically was amazing the story was great and for a game made in 2008 the graphics are pretty good and they still hold up. new vegas is just freaking amazing story wise and gameplay wise it is a great game for players that want a game that you literally choose. there are factions that you can fight for and you can eliminate factions as well
ToM92MoT Fallout 3's story is a terrible and nonsensical rehash of old plot lines (get the GECK from F2, get the water chip from Fallout 1...), and it's not much of an RPG. Also the atmospheric thing...uh, no, the game takes place 200 years after the bombs dropped, everything should look the way it does in Fallout 4, if not better. NV is much better. Fallout 2 is better than all of them, though.
ToM92MoT I think that the two have the same graphics... F3 is better atmospherically (as Uriah said) and in my opinion has better DLC's, but FNV is much better in gameplay. Honestly? if you have the time before F4, try to play both games (playing F3 before FNV is recommended). If not, well, it's a hard for me to choose one.
📌My best way to describe Fallout 4 is it feels like some studio is trying to copy the Fallout franchise but failed to understand what made Fallout great. The roleplay is worse because of the half-baked factions. The dialogue is worse because of the stupid dialogue wheel. A lot of the choices are fake. Some of the quests are auto-generated and not hand-crafted. Anybody who's played Fallout 1 to New Vegas will tell you those are the core elements of Fallout..
***** Yes, it is universally agreed that New Vegas is better. The only people who liked Fallout 3 are those who think its "post-apocalyptic setting" is more realistic.
I'm a huge fan of your show. The energy and humor you bring has been a real inspiration for me as I recently created my own video game based cooking channel where I make in-game food and drink in the style of the game they are from. Right now, I'm doing foods from Fallout 4 in a 1940's style. I would be flattered if you took some time to check it out.
Sacriel you must be one of the players that really cares about weapon variation. There's only two things NV did better than 3, and that's more weapons, and more extensive expansions. Graphics, atmosphere, story, game design, sound, pacing, character, all things that 3 did better. Obsidian released a buggy, brown mess. I like the lvl 50 max, perk list, and the weapon modding and ammo crafting, but that is all that New Vegas has to brag about. I think we can agree that Fallout 4 is going to blow the fucking doors off both games.
Sacriel better characters? I'll give you Ulysses. And that's it. Better gameplay? HAHAHAHAHAHA nope. You mentioned everything I mentioned before and then... Morality? Are you fucking shitting me? The most unbalanced, meaningless, barely functioning part of NV is the morality. Virtually nothing gives you negative morality. You can get a few drops of bad karma from stealing things. Kill an automatically hostile ghoul or bandit? You're Jesus in two seconds flat.
At least I give reasons for why I prefer FO3 slightly better. I also don't toss out the pejorative "fanboy" like a thoughtless dork. I don't see how I qualify as a "FO3 fanboy" when I still love New Vegas, and have played NV more than Fallout 3. I'm basically saying New Vegas is buggy and lazy, and, if you were honest, you'd admit that the DLC expansions of NV are its strong point, and that NV as a stand alone product is pretty monotone overall. Basically, Obsidian added virtually nothing but more guns and somehow produced a game that was less visually impressive and far less innovative (and less functional) than Fallout 3. I for one am very glad Bethesda is back at the helm for Fallout 4. In the new console generation, it wouldn't be possible for Obsidian to innovate and create a new game engine for FO4. Because Obsidian are lazy, overrated hacks who never meet release deadlines. You can shit on FO3 all you want, but it was ballsy, innovative, and genius. I haven't played 1 or 2 and I could give a fuck about comparisons between 1&2 vs 3, because the setting is the only thing those games have in common. FO3 is practically its own IP for its unique gameplay and atmosphere. You can deepthroat NV for piggybacking off of every genius move FO3 made all day. It shows who the actual fanboy is here. Either way, FO3 came out back in '08, when the XB360 and PS3 were producing bullshit garbage, just like this console generation is. And like FO3 and Oblivion before it, Bethesda is gonna save the fuckin day AGAIN with FO4

Never used it,feels kinda boring to let the computer aim for you, also its kinda op that it pauses time in older games,i remember using it only when i was about to die
and vats it's not much reliable actually, unless you're on high level
It made sense and was actually a pretty cool mechanic in the first two games, since they're turn-based, but I didn't mind its inclusion in the new games, even if it's lame. It's completely pointless in 76, though.
Vats was great for close range fire fights.... At longer range it was only good if you invested Perks/skills/SPECIAL
It's was a needed mechanism in fallout 3 and NV, for both Lore (because fallout 1 & 2 had it) and because the Oblivion engine that the games were based on didn't do FPS well, so they needed a mechanism to balance things out...

Well, New Vegas had much better writing than fallout 3, and from what I've played so far, 3 still has waaaay better writing than 4. By a mile. Fuck.
Cameron Grams I've played further now. Gotta say, my opinion has not changed.
New Vegas had less memorable location and events. I'm not including dlc but the core game. I did like that spore infected vault.
New Vegas had some excellent side quests and just plain cool hidden stuff. Personal highlights include reuniting the enclave, doing companion side quests (which were actually done well), resurfacing an old bomber, and lots more
+Sam Poncho so far for me all the vaults in Fallout 4 are kinda...meh
Badabing Bing agreed! One of them had a cool premise involving schoolchildren, but played out so damn generically it was actually frustratingly disappointing. This game has so much potential but the quests all seem to just be interesting premises with poor follow up and execution.

Fallout 3 is one of the most immersive game, I truly loved being in the post-apocalyptic atmosphere it sets . Amazing game
I actually prefer it to New Vegas. Which makes me an outlier I know.

For over a thousand generations, Fallout 3 was considered the most mediocre Fallout game.
Before the dark times...
Before Fallout 76.
Now it's just second most mediocre. And this isn't even counting Brotherhood of Steel or 4.

42Snowl I actually turned away a child and a man in fallout shelter. To think I may have removed fallout 3 from the lore gives me chills.
Do Metal Gear series.

Funny.
Hex PLAYS New Vegas also has more side quests to do.
Hex PLAYS I liked fallout but.. God it became so boring after I was done with it....
Is it a bad thing that I love the desert wasteland in nv
NEMATOADGOD No... Though it's so hot there, it makes me almost wish for a nuclear winter
"A game that makes you pick up absolutely everything" ...yeah, I went from Fallout 4 to Fallout 3...I'm still tying to grab things that are apparently not actually things, so not even close yet.

I know this is incredibly late, but he meant that this game was only considered good until New Vegas came out, then it was considered great (in compared to New Vegas before it became a cult classic), and that it (fallout 3) would become Godlike in comparison to Fallout 4
Things that are better in NV: Weapon sights, crafting, very cool character in the dlc, more types of soda

josh11735 It's not easy to do halo 5 stuff because the game isn't out yet and they dont know exactly what it's like but other halo games should work
John m I don't want them to do Halo 5, I want them to do all Halos prior to this in one go.
John m
I wouldn't say Fallout 4 was was at any point comparable to Half-Life 3. It's only been 3-4 years, wheres HL3 is about 14 years in.

Considering the story of Fallout 3 up to (and the rest tbh) finding Vault 112, I'd rather find it by accident.
+Dankest Bonglord Wat, how did you find that out? I didn't and I've played through the game once and I'm lvl 53 on my second go.
+Dankest Bonglord Gee guy thank's a whole lot for spoiling the game without giving any spoiler warning whatsoever. Seriously fuck you.

New Vegas was the best by far
Wait, how can all factions suck if one of them is literally you plus a robot butler.
Zachary Doney
That's not how i see it. Yes Man becoming more assertive means there will be something keeping the courier on his toes. Some new adventure after the retirement.
At this point Courier has done some badass stuff so far. He can handle Yes Man's eventual rebellion.
+Zachary Doney It's just science ,you can't argue with pure science.
Zachary Doney
The Factions didn't suck at all, and Fallout 3's world is far more empty.
All Fallout 3 has is garbage everywhere.
I think Fallout 2 was the best game in the series, but New Vegas is a very close second.

New Vegas. Just saying.
+seby theboss K, ill still play.
Agreed. I don't know which game took up more of my life: This one, or Morrowind.
Picking up ammo while accidentally drinking toilet is the best Fallout Troll ever made
Never played Fallout before. If I got Fallout 3, would I like it?
yeah, amazing game
wwetitle818 I played it for the first time two years ago: £10 for the Game of the Year Edition, 100+ hours - where do you get value like that these days??
wwetitle818 It's probably my favorite game of all time. You can totally dump dozens or even hundreds of hours into it there's so much to explore. Now days it's only a buck or two on Amazon, or like $5 at Gamestop. I myself have spent countless hours just immersed and wandering the wasteland. It was definitely an experience. Get it! :)

wwetitle818 Play FAllout 2 first.

One of my favorite games of all time, was fun to see it get roasted :).
Fallout 3 might have been a better game at the time but I would recommend new Vegas to play now
Fallout 3s atmosphere felt like an Apocalypse or at least how it should be
📌My best way to describe Fallout 4 is it feels like some studio is trying to copy the Fallout franchise but failed to understand what made Fallout great.
Do Witcher 3 !
Do this asap
Hold on, do they actually think that New Vegas is better?
***** It is. #sorrynotsorry
***** It is buddy.
***** Yes, it is universally agreed that New Vegas is better. The only people who liked Fallout 3 are those who think its "post-apocalyptic setting" is more realistic.
The bugs always really got to me, and I very rarely cared about the story. I was impressed by the notoriety and weapon mod features though.
***** You didn't care about the story but cared about 3's overall writing?
As for the bugs, why not just use the unofficial patches?
Do Ratchet and Clank next please! (Never hurts to say please).

I like Fallout: New Vegas as much as the next person.
But if you think it's better than Fallout 3, please know that you're wrong.
Darran Kern It is better than Fallout 3. ALOT better.
Darran Kern tl;dr
New Vegas > Fallout 3
Fallout 3 is the greatest game ever made
Not even the best Fallout
