Brian I appreciate that you understand us painting in the garages because you literally came just from that so you know the struggles as always great video I'm always watching 👀
This is what I bought to do my truck, also bought that brand of primer. First time ever painting so I’ve watched a bunch of your videos! Bought 3 guns for each application. Plus a bunch of supplies that I needed. Tack cloth, paint prep, sandpaper, glass cleaner, microfiber cloths. I was happy with the primer and the paint I put on. I did 4 coats of red paint. When came time to clear coat I thought I had the gun set right according to instructions on the can. Well after spraying the inside of the tailgate it was leaving like tiny air bubbles. 😳 Well reaching out to others I was told my psi was to low, needed to try 30psi coming out of the gun. So I started on the underside of the fenders and once I started it was night & day difference!! So thankful for your help !!! 👍🏻😁
Great clear for the money. Been using fc720 for awhile have a small collision shop. Haven’t had no complaints years down the road holds up nice.I spray three coats doesn’t matter if it’s a complete or repair. It’s my go to clear the price is right for the set up. I’m not new to this used many different products. It will and does cut and buff nice if needed. First coat coverage second medium wet third wet. Each coat I increase pressure. That’s what works for me lays right down.Brian’s a good teacher one thing about painting can always learn more. If you get tunnel vision most likely you’ll be stuck with bad habits.
Fixing to paint a front bumper medium silver little lighter than charcoal grey do you think the fc720 will hold up for 10 years on a bumper I've been using the fc720 for 3 year's
I used to love using the FC720 because of how easy it was to spray and how it shines, but noticed that over time it dies back and looks dull over time. It mainly did it on darker vehicles. I had a black Altima that I did some work on and a year later the customer wrecked it again. The car still looked good because it mainly sat under the garage. It was another black Altima that I worked on and a year later the customer wrecked it again and it was dull. I know that car sits out in the sun a lot. I've learned that they came out with an FC740, which I was thinking that would be a HS clear. I called their tech support to get more info on it and even he told me that none of those clears hold up well to UV rays.
i paint in my yard and thats the only clear i use and i love it... usually go 710 on roof, trunks and hoods for the fast dry to speed up dry time and help stop dust from landing in clear... 720 on sides just for a good flow out..... so far so good.
Aw man, you're blowing up my spot. I love this clear. I just wet sanded and buffed the last car I painted with this clear to a mirror finish and I didn't have any sand throughs. I hope they don't raise the price or sell out of this stuff because of this video.
I've used the Acme clears before and I for the most part preferred the 720 as it just seems to level out a little better, I've never really cared for fast hardener in any brand as it just doesn't flow and level as well, but for the money the Acme stuff is hard to beat, I do recommend for painters to stick with one or two brands so you can get familiar with how it performs and that helps cut down on unwanted suprises and one of the most important steps when you do start laying down the clear, and I always hear you mention it, is watch the material as your laying it down and make adjustments in technique and or gun settings to obtain the best results, and if you don't paint a lot spray a test panel first.
Speedokote has a lot of DIY friendly clears. Many were designed for mobile use which means fast drying/potentially less dust settling in for smaller jobs. Price on most is also DIY friendly and easily as good or better than Finish one in my opinion
Man Brian you and i agree on a lot from paint, regulators, to clears. I have been using Acme FC720 high solids and FC740 for a long time for budget jobs. For a sherwins Williams product its surprisingly very good and for the price much better than their Dimension Clear. I saw Acme has an FC770 high solids Euro Clear now too that comes in euro style cans (5.0Liter clear, 2.5Liter catalyst) but i never tried it before.
Many thanks for recommending this clear i ordered some and i just sprayed a altima bumper with it..wow does it lay down super slick with my no-name gun that you reviewed also!! 💯
Did full repaint on my 06 gto a couple years ago with the Finish 1 FC720 clear and still looking good. And just repainted the front bumper on my 06 dodge viper using the same clear.
@jayon w awesome man. So after looking at my materials I used FC740 clear. Just made a walk around video of the car th-cam.com/video/C8J23k5ABXs/w-d-xo.html

Yep I used FC720 last fall with the FH611 Fast Hardener. No one recommends the fast hardener but it was all that was left at Sherwin Williams and it was fine since temps were pretty cool in the upper 60s. I put a heater next to the panel and it kept it reasonably warm. This stuff came out great.
I'm going with Fc720 due to cost and it's reputation for being easy to work with. Being a novice and the projects I will be painting it seems like a good choice for practice/learning.
Thanks for validating my choice of clear coats. I am DIYer and got it off of Amazon. They charge much more for it at the local sherwin-williams auto paint store near me.
This clear was a game changer for me when I found it at the advice of a local NAPA mechanic. Suddenly the chances of runs dropped drastically, dry spots or other weirdness declined. Feels good to spray and is very predictable. Other budget brands I used sprayed like water and if that happens, you're gonna have a bad time. I was recently equally impressed by some of the speedokote super fast clears. 100% would recommend. My paint cabinet is packed with Finish 1 and Speedokote.
I just started using it a buddy of mines let me try some with the black widow layed it wet with no runs I had a little sag but we are going to flow coat I also have speedokote euro clear good stuff for the price
@@2koolforyou88 I used the glamour production clear. what I really liked was that if you are even reasonably good at laying clear, chances of runs are so little. Spray it wet and as you see it on the surface when you spray it is how it's going to be when it dries. Unless you realllllllly mess up. really eliminates some of the guess work on how much a clear will flow out and that fine line between laying flat or running and ruining the job. The quick drying time was great at minimizing junk that may float into the clear as it sets in a less than perfect environment, and the gloss was right up there with anything else I've used. Used it on about half of a black car and the car was sprayed, unmasked and outside within 2 hours.

Upol 2882 is also another good one at a lower price. It's compatible with solvent/water based, UV resistant (not sure how strong), and is high solid at 4:1 ratio
Upol 2882 from Oreillys and the LVLP "gold cap" 1.3mm on my Sharpe Razor. Lays glass time and time again. If I could only post a photo in the comments.
You should be fine spraying urethane clear over alkyd enamel, but wait 3 days for the solvents to flash out of the paint before clearing it. If you wait 5 days, you might need to sand the vehicle before clearing, because you won't have much chemical adhesion.
Hi Brian @PaintSociety looking forward to seeing how you set up the "ultimate home shop". What sort of pro league shop equipment you would recommend (mixing bench essentials?).
I have that brand in my stock for the wife's Camry. This will be a springtime project. Used your links to purchase it. Got the Eastwood primer as well. Still need to order the sealer.
This is sherwin williams #2 sold clear coat. Cc200 is #1. I spray it daily and it does work very well for what it costs. Also if you add up to %10 reducer in it it will lay down like a much more expensive clear …minus the solids.

Ive been working with 720 in a mom and pop shop. It works nice for apot repairs and multipanel with the 612. However i reqlly need to try it with the 613 and or lower temps. But so far not bad clear, i either need to fine tune it or maybe get something that isnt "diy level"
I used this clear over Martin Senour Crossfire base, all products bought at my local NAPA if that helps anyone, on the hood of my sons Buick Century after he hit a deer. Holding up very well after three years(except for area where he hit another deer). Dried fast enough to spray in my backyard with very little dust picked up.
@@MMichaelSingh Yeah, the Century is a deer slayer for sure! I bought a quart of Crossfire base and a quart of FC720 clear, can’t remember exactly what I paid but I do know it was reasonable. Base was a metallic gold and had some streaks on the first coat. Added a little reducer and a little air pressure and solved that issue. The Finish1 clear is about as easy to spray as it gets. I hadn’t picked up a spray gun in 20 years and layed it down smooth enough to not require buffing.

Hey Brian! Love the videos and info. As a small DIYer can you go over bumper, trim, and emblem removal? It is different on all cars but an overview would be great.
I bought a 5 pack of sprayaway glass cleaner at home depot. I love 710, its always sold out at napa paint store but managed to get a gallon. I paint at home and have a Pomeranian dog outside with long ass hair. I blow the driveway with leaf blower. The clear dried in 30 minutes but found some dog hair stuck to it. It didn't get absorbed by clear, it just wiped away. After 24 hours i tried sanding out the dirt nibs but noticed the clear was still soft, the sand paper wont even cut. Have to give it a few more days. Buffed out good with turtlewax one and done.
Hey Brian ... thank you for the very informative video. When you said you mixed your clear 20 minutes prior to using it, was this accurate? Also, did you use the same gun for color and clear and if you do, how do you keep from any cleaning solvent getting into your clear coat after cleaning the color from the gun? Thanks a bunch!
Brian, do you know what the percentage of “solids” that clear (FC710 is ? The Sherwin Williams web site is a nightmare to navigate! Thanks for your time! Great video 👍
Brian, another great video! FYI - after you applied the first coat of Pearl, at 6:23 you say you’re going to apply another coat of “base”. Then you apply the second coat of Pearl.
Walmart, O'Reilly's, Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone, and Napa all carry Sprayway around here... Gonna have to check if Amazon is cheaper before I get into painting my truck.
Incredible! I think you could paint a car behind your back with a mirror and it would look fantastic :) One thing and it has nothing to do with painting is don't buy Sprayway glass cleaner through Amazon. Go to a box store that begins with an H or one with a red bullseye. About $2.60 a can vs $7 on Amazon. More money for paint..right?
Have you Tried Noval Spectral 545 VHS. I’ve started using it and it’s amazing stuff. Low bake at 40 degrees for 15 mins saves around 50% on has for booth bake cycles as well
Thanks for the recommendation on the clear! Wondering if you got any recommendations on where to get good quality base coat paints online at good prices.
Just seen this video of you using the Finish 1 products. I was just curious how much clear coat I would need for my car. I have a 1974 vw that I’m turning into a Baja bug. I was also curious about if I can put an orange pearl in the clear coat and spray it on? Thanks for your time and your videos are very helpful and informative! 1:23 pm central time

Which combo of this clear would you think for a 60-70 degree shop? I was spraying another brand with only one activator and I’m having problems with cratering no mater how I lay it down . Last time spraying I did to very light , dry coats fine at that point then a med wet coat and they appeared. I’m sure my air system is clean and dry . In this cool temp I was wondering about the FC710 and a fast to medium activator or would that make my problem worse?

Considering the current ambient temperatures this time of year, will the medium hardener be ok? Thanks for all your videos, I painted my first car following your tips and it turned out amazing!
So I do product testing for several vendors in the Philadelphia area. Good clear but if you have to buff it , you only have a 72 hr window to do so. It states that in the TDS
For plastics with no paint on them pretty much straight out of the mold how would I prep them to clear 🤔 and how many coats or should I paint them first
Can a car have about 20 clear coat layers by waiting the third layer to dry then sand it and add 3 more layers, and fallow this same steps over an over again till you have about 20 layers or more??
I’m redoing a golf cart panel, and if I spray an adhesion promoter do I need primer before base coat? Panel is plastic, first timer here, have been watching lot of your videos to learn the most I can, I’ll be painting it kona blue, I’ll take any advise you got lol

Love fc720, 2 med wet coats 5 min apart, sand with 1000 then flow coat for added UV resistance.
Poor deers! I would like to ask you Jeff, how is the pricing on NAPA paint? Would you recommend it? Ty
@@jeffjones8434 ty so much. im just a garage shade tree mechanic looking to get into the paint scene. I've been overhauling a CR-V that i will want to respray. Fortunately I have a spare door laying around to practice bodywork and paint on. ty
@@MMichaelSingh You’re welcome! Do everything Brian says on here and you’ll be good!
Hey Brian! Love the videos and info. As a small DIYer can you go over bumper, trim, and emblem removal? It is different on all cars but an overview would be great.
It's different on all cars. I always search for a OEM service manual and usually I can find one for free. It shows exactly how to remove everything.
@text4231 I can't believe my luck, another prize. what is it this time? a car? a house?
Another great video Brian .
Great videos as usual!!! Question: when does your timer start between coats; when you start the panel or when you complete the panel. Thanks
I saw some cromax on that mixing table!!! Show Axalta some love and do a review on that!
Ha that’s Mario’s, that can I think is empty but we can get some more. I never used it 😀
Brian, do you know what the percentage of “solids” that clear (FC710 is ? The Sherwin Williams web site is a nightmare to navigate! Thanks for your time! Great video 👍
Brian, another great video! FYI - after you applied the first coat of Pearl, at 6:23 you say you’re going to apply another coat of “base”. Then you apply the second coat of Pearl.
Yes that was a technically glitch that I didn’t get to edit out. Good catch. I missed that one and saw it after the video was posted.
Is it recommended to wait 20 minutes between mixing the clearcoat and spraying it?
Would one gallon do 3 coats on a 77 f150 short bed?
Awesome.would you be able to spray this through an airbrush? I customize diecast.
Great video. Do all clear coats have the same gloss? Do you have to match clear coats to what’s on your car?
Will this clearcoat work good for restoring headlights?
Yes I plan to use it in the future. but where can I get my paint from?
Merry Xmas to u and your family love the clip.
Walmart, O'Reilly's, Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone, and Napa all carry Sprayway around here... Gonna have to check if Amazon is cheaper before I get into painting my truck.
It’s funny I just got this for Christmas!
Harbor freight or target? Lol
@@adamgruenwald2087 👍 HF does sell glass cleaner. Go for it!
I bought this clear for my mustang after your video i feel better about using it now nice video 😀👍
Thanks for the awesome tips you the man!!
Perfect job master brian.
Just ordered some hope it works out 😊
Just seen this video of you using the Finish 1 products. I was just curious how much clear coat I would need for my car. I have a 1974 vw that I’m turning into a Baja bug. I was also curious about if I can put an orange pearl in the clear coat and spray it on? Thanks for your time and your videos are very helpful and informative! 1:23 pm central time
HERE IN MEXICO WE DO NOT HAVE MUCH CHOICE TO BUY THE CLEAR COAT 710 OR 720. WE BUY A CHEAP THE CLEAR AT LOCAL STORE ,BUT ALLWAY FOLLOWING YOUR INSTRUCTIONS,THANKS TEACHER BRIAN.
I have been hearing great things about Grant 7 clear. I bought UreChem UC-421. I will be painting my truck shortly and just want to use a clear coat that is good for the garage painter. I see that you recommend the Finish one in this video. What should I do??????
Which combo of this clear would you think for a 60-70 degree shop? I was spraying another brand with only one activator and I’m having problems with cratering no mater how I lay it down . Last time spraying I did to very light , dry coats fine at that point then a med wet coat and they appeared. I’m sure my air system is clean and dry . In this cool temp I was wondering about the FC710 and a fast to medium activator or would that make my problem worse?
HI Brian, Im in Clearwater Florida and Im about to paint a silver prius, there's a deal on amazon for this clear and hardener. Considering the current ambient temperatures this time of year, will the medium hardener be ok? Thanks for all your videos, I painted my first car following your tips and it turned out amazing!
Bruh...best clear there is...FC720...I've used it on three projects...one of which won some awards at a car show...
I see you use u the utech 460 sealer, maybe you could do a video on how you tint or mix it, the toners you use etc
Colorbuild sealer
Oh, sorry, I saw that quart of u tech on your bench and thought it was a sealer hardner
@@hazelwoodgarage utech 4.0 clear
Impressive. Any feedback as to how it compares to Matrix clears?
So I do product testing for several vendors in the Philadelphia area. Good clear but if you have to buff it , you only have a 72 hr window to do so. It states that in the TDS
Why is there a time limit on buffing clear coat
Can I use that clear code if I paint the car with our acrylic enamel paint
For plastics with no paint on them pretty much straight out of the mold how would I prep them to clear 🤔 and how many coats or should I paint them first
Can a car have about 20 clear coat layers by waiting the third layer to dry then sand it and add 3 more layers, and fallow this same steps over an over again till you have about 20 layers or more??
NO! It will peel in chunks
Did you have the fluid level wide open? I use it all the time and love it, especially the spot panel
Great video nice instructions
I make small wood flags with a stain. Will this work on wood and do you have to use up all you mix at one time. How much will a 32 oz can make.
How long would last tho. And would turn yellowish after awhile?
I’m redoing a golf cart panel, and if I spray an adhesion promoter do I need primer before base coat? Panel is plastic, first timer here, have been watching lot of your videos to learn the most I can, I’ll be painting it kona blue, I’ll take any advise you got lol
