Note about this thing in PvP - As Patrick demonstrated (but not necessarily commented), Deathbringer has virtually NO self damage. Meaning, you can fire it at your own feet, and not be immediately blasted to hell.
I was gonna say! He wasn’t even gonna mention the fact that you could fire it at your feet, and use it to kill someone in pursuit, and survive? That’s such a cool application, though!

I feel even auto loading holster would be awesome. Fire it, swap weapon to deal extra damage and when you pull it out again, it's loaded. Not too OP but definitely noticeable!

I absolutely fell in love with this exotic once I realized how it's meant to be used. The amount of damage it can do is really underrated imo. Regardless, it's soooooo much fun to use for pve and pvp. Gambit Prime is where it especially shines. Time your invades right(when they get their pool of light) and you can stall the other team a crap ton. 3-4 guardians standing in the pool of light, all it takes is 1 Deathbringer above them to wipe a whole team! It's not super loud like Truth, and hardly anyone expects it.
All that, plus the lore of how we crafted the weapon just makes it the whole package, for me personally.

Been enjoying all these reviews so far. Really looking forward to your review of Black talon. Swords are great now, and Black talon seems amazing, just finished the Catalyst too and that damage is nuts and now it also has the ability to partially bypass elemental shields. No one has posted a review of it since the sword changes and would love to see you talking about it.
Black Talon is an awesome sword! I love it so much lol got mines masterwork as well!
It's actually pretty cool now with the sword buff. You can basically spam the range attack now as it only takes 1-2 ammo without sword energy, but the tracking is reduced. When you do have full sword energy, it tracks much better and hits extremely hard for like 4 ammo. Very fun, especially with the new sword mods 👀
@@matthewhilliker what sword mods can you use other then the normal ammo finders? You can get the unstopable mod sadly because exotics can't equip them. I still hate that btw

Worldline zero does a shit ton of damage, just wish the catalyst got changed to increase charge speed. The catalyst It’s almost useless now
IMO this really shines in gambit, especially invading with wall hacks

This is like my favorite weapon in the game lol, just I love how it takes skill to use it correctly like anarchy does. Plus the weapon itself just looks so damn cool and sleek
An in depth review in only 5.5 minutes... impressive.
Something that became available a little after this review went live that I personally started using recently, is pairing this with a warmind weapon, because pretty much every time the void orbs kill something when you have either the Seraph or Ikelos weapons equipped you will create warmind cells. Just thought I'd add this as its incredibly useful and a lot of fun on top of that.
Love this weapon so much, and I think that if it were ever to get a catalyst then my heavy slot would pretty much only consist of this, Anarchy and Xenophage 👍

This has taken me by surprise in pvp
God this gun just makes me want Dragons Breath. Just watching the missile arc it’s way to the ground before bursting into a pool of flaming napalm brought me so much joy.
Honestly I've been using this a TONNE recently, both PvP and PvE. Whilst it doesn't tick the reliability/optimal boxes in most scenarios, the power fantasy and fun factors are so important to me I always want to be using this gun! Personal thing for me
Deathbringer is fun as hell to use in Gambit as an invader weapon. Its also a really good defensive weapon if you know someone is running towards you from around the corner. But its definitely not as optimal as Truth cause the orbs go way too slow when tracking players.
You can also shoot and reload while the first shot is still going forward ( do not release left click)

This gun is great for warmind cell builds. If you shoot the orb, then swap to a seraph weapon, it still counts as seraph weapon kills and a cell will spawn at the same rates.
Given your description, this sounds like it'd perform pretty well on the GoS final boss. Reckon that'd be the case?
The RL looks amazing
In my opinion, this rocket could really use a way to tell when it's over an enemy's head. For instance; tagging an enemy before you shoot it like you would a homing rocket. Or maybe having a beeping sound to indicate when the orb is over an enemy.

Its literally a Nova bomb with seeker orbs in a rocket launcher. It's faster than the initial nova bomb, but the orbs are way slower than the supers' orbs.
A catalyst with increased velocity and improved orb tracking would put it one notch above wardcliff coil with i's catalyst.
If I'm not running a main exotic I will pop this in my loadout in PvP, it is a unseen killer if you shoot it over walls and just past corners. Had a 5 kill when they were all catching a flag and i simply fired it through the porthole from outside the capture zone.
If you play on Cauldron, Deathbringer can seriously output some massive damage in the center room. Shoot into the air when red pings are nearby and you can potentially get two or three kills, typically on people who just walked in or are trying to run away. I've gotten a Ghost in the Night from doing this and it's suuuuper satisfying.

I love this gun but I feel like a catalyst with auto-loading holster and improved orb velocity is pretty much mandatory to save it
I wish they added a feature were you can aim at the enemy and the orbs will just go to the target you aimed at but you can aim at multiple targets

Do Worldline Zero! The new sword changes have made it more fun to kill with again. Its my go to patrol or playlist strike heavy weapon.

I love this thing, but important things to know are: While holding the trigger down to time the detonation, your character does not begin to reload the weapon until you let go of the trigger to tell the round to detonate, making this literally the longest reload time in the entire game. To bypass this, if there is a ceiling or environmental object you can aim at around the height you would normally detonate the round, you can shoot the launcher at it and immediately begin reloading or swap guns, letting the projectile hit something on purpose rather than stopping all damage to stand around timing your detonation.
The best use of this I've seen in action was during a solo Pit of Heresy video where the user was hot swapping to this weapon, launching a shell at the ceiling above a new wave of adds, then instantly swapping back to recluse to clear out the other side.
I'm not trying to argue your point, but I often didn't even notice I had already reloaded because I was watching the orbs descend.

Imo the orbs just need better tracking to be more consistent. Maybe a larger detection range and last longer in the air? Oh, and also being smart enough to avoid geometry.
If Bungie is 100% sure they will never bring back Gjallarhorn then Deathbringer’s catalyst should add a perk call Wolfpack Rounds wich improves void orb’s tracking and speed. Maybe even add a second rocket in the magazine.

Id actually recommend this gun to people more for pvp than pve. I love bringing this thing into pvp. I can use it as trap behind me when people are chasing, i can use to wipe out unaware teams, and rip through multiple super. If you can put in the time and know how to use it this thing is a blast to use. Also in pve for void burn activities for me there are no substitutes.
This is one of my favorite weapons in the game, lol. It's a lot of fun and requires a lot of coordination and practice. You 100% will need to waste some rounds getting used to how this works but it's so satisfying to melt bosses. I use it in Gambit and Reckoning a lot. Yes, I still play Reckoning a little, lol.

I never liked exotics that force you to retrain your basics (Jade Rabbit), specially because they usually reward you with on par DPS to any good legendary.

I think what would make this exotic worth using is a catalyst that adds a Champion effect. Any of the 3 would do.

This thing has a fine dps and total damage for exotic heavy if used right. The only thing that stops me from using it in endgame is the fact that it just doesnt track some of the raid bosses or any big enemy. That's probably because the point to which the void charges are attracted to is deep inside the bosses' model. If bungie would fix that i d use it everywhere i can.
It's good as an Invader in Gambit.

Why you see more the scope in izanagi?
There are 3 main problems with this weapon:
1. You have to waste time judging the right distance because the orbs will just disappear if you detonate too high which kind of defeats the purpose of the whole weapon
2. The orbs drop/seek enemies too slowly. I'd never use it in PvP for this reason
3. Too unreliable in PvE because the orbs will go anywhere they want. Sometimes they hit the target you want, sometimes they hit the mobs and you waste a ton of damage. Sometimes they will all chase an enemy that you don't want them to focus on and sometimes they don't hit anything at all.
This weapon needs at least an orb travel speed buff and some ability to lock a priority target for the orbs to track before i will bother using it again. It's just too unreliable.

First of all I miss dragon's breath from Destiny 1. Now that I said that....I took a break from Destiny and I'm kind of back to enjoy what's new in pick up on things I miss before I like the izanagi's burden catalyst and anarchy, xenophage.... Stuff like that.
I rarely use the meta. I like weird stuff. Stuff that people don't expect.
I've had loaded question since it came out. I missed out on 21% delirium. So I decided to finish off the quest yesterday.
You know where this weapon is REALLY good....Gambit. lol
It is hilarious. Once you get good at approximating distance....you can literally spawn and stand on the other side of the map fire in the general direction & release.
Because most people think you're going to snipe or come in with a super.
They're never just looking up for no reason. And then they die suddenly. And think to themselves...."what the....DEATHBRINGeR?!? Are you serious?".
I've had more teams quit on me yesterday getting 21% using death bringer than at any point before. He can literally wipe whole teams. It's like a combination of dragon's breath with a smidgen of gjallarhorn. You have to be smart and time it right but IF you time it right when they're fighting a blocker....approximate the distance fire above them. Then just sit down and wait for the timer to run out.
Once you get good at it it's really fun.
Maybe you could use it to flush out camping snipers, but that does require teamwork...

Thanks for this review, not enough was done to truly review this weapon. I think this weapon, in addition to the issues you've noted here, really struggles on console given the low field of view. I think this thing needs to be reworked. It's not bad, but it's too much work to make useful. Just having auto loading holster as a perk would make this weapon way more useful and fun.
I’m on Xbox and I use this quite a bit for pvp and gambit, I’m fine with the way it is. If anything buff it’s tracking and damage for pve but a rework is just overkill as it’s not only a cool rocket launcher but it’s very handy for the two modes I listed.
Deathnotekeeper my comment was more for PVE. I have used it in PvP, but that's different because you can concentrate on a spot. I don't play gambit anymore so can't really speak to that, I'll take your word for it

Nicholas Nelson for sure it’s got a lot of utility in gambit whether your invading or an anti invader. It’s also handy for add clearing since you can make so many motes for you team with ease.

An exotic power weapon that actually skill to bring out the maximum potential and it doesn’t get rewarded. All the best exotic power weapons atm are just boring point and click or spamming the attack button.
I never use this in PvE but I actually always have it on me for PvP, where it’s really good.
Same, also gambit it’s ridiculously good as an invader or even an anti invader weapon. I just hop in shoot and then let the gun do the rest of the work for me.

It's a shame in most of your recent reviews since returning to us your struggling to recommend any new exotics for anything, with a couple of exceptions of course. Think that speaks volumes about where bungies at (either fresh out of good ideas or to scared to make anything with the power fantasy of g-horn or icebreaker.) Just my take! Good to have you back all the same holtz.
Not really there’s only been a few he really didn’t care for but even then they had a place in the sand box. Xenophage he personally didn’t like but it’s one of the best dps weapons at the moment and is used quite a bit for raid teams, deathbringer is incredibly good in gambit and pvp since you don’t even need to face you fellow guardians to kill them with ease, symmetry is decent in pvp but excels at gambit especially as an invader, he didn’t care for 4th horsemen pve but even then it’s still an incrediable dps weapon. He still recommended bastion, divinity, devils ruin, Monte Carlo, and Erinas vow. So maybe what levthains breath was the only one that didn’t really have a place or wasn’t all that good. Sure maybe not all of the weapons arent pure damage dealers but exotics don’t need to do ridiculous damage just to be good. Many of these exotics have a place and a job in the sand box as coolguy would say. Just look at Monte Carlo and erinas vow, sure they aren’t icebreaker but they damn sure have utility and use. You say bungie is running out of ideas yet these exotics have been the most unique and interesting. If you keep just having exotics trying to top each other in damage it’s just gonna get boring and your gonna have power creep. At least here these exotics are not only interesting and fun to use but they have a job in the sandbox which gives them an actual job to do.

I tried using it in Pit of Heresy and I decided *fuck it* and detonated the orb at Heretic Knights' feet to guarantee *some* burst damage.
Although it's easy Boss DPS in Pit and Gambit Prime.
