  • This is the third Gregory's girl filming location video that I have made and this is the ultimate edit with loads of the quotes you love (Let me know your favourite quote from the movie in the comments?).
My favourite Scottish movie and now you can see how the locations look 40 years on.
The school is now demolished so I was very lucky to be able to record the interior locations before the vanished forever.
Enjoy this gem on nostalgia and remember to visit my website at www.rewoundandfound.com for more of the classic film you love re visited.

The amount of nostalgia, innocence and sheer Scottishness in Gregory's Girl makes it one of the best British films ever made.

Great video! Mad to see how little had changed in the school and on the housing estate! Gregory's Girl was a hugely relatable film for me when I first saw it in 1987. I was 14, awkward, shy, lived on a similar estate in North Wales and madly in (unrequited) love with Michelle Jones! Unfortunately for me though, there was no Clare Grogan equivalent!

Wow, great video!its amazing how little its changed.I first saw Gregory's Girl in the early 80s when we acquirred Cable. I was a Teenager myself at the time and totally fell in love with the film. Even though I was in the USA, I could relate to the problems and situations they were going thru 100%.

Thank you for the kind words and for getting in touch. I love this movie and its amazing just how universal the subjects of the film are and that they can be enjoyed by people all over the world. Sadly, the school is now demolished. I got to film the interior shots the day the keys were handed over to the demolition crew.

Bloody hell...the same sinks still in the back...and still supported by the same legs...Built to last them👍🏽....In fact...it even looks like they've kept the classroom doors, just painted them. The only changes outside are cosmetically via upgrading the cladding to the blue colour. Fantastic to have captured this footage before demolition...[a shame really that the modern-academies took over around 10 yrs ago]...The system hasn't improved despite the rebuilding of the schools...4:21 That tunnel and exit haven't changed at all...really good to see. It looks like a place you'd get twatted cutting through there on a fri/sat night:)...

It was incredible just how much was still there. The classroom doors were the same doors. I had permission to take the door number plate from room 4.1, the room Claire Grogan carries the books into at the start of the film and under the plaque the original colour was still there. I was very lucky to get in the day before the building was handed over to the demolition.

Its a film that has been with me for as long as I can remember. It was the first thing my Dad recorded the night we got our first VCR th-cam.com/video/5Q8EMHN1rLE/w-d-xo.html and allthough I was at primary school and didnt get the joke, it was exciting to think I would be at high school soon and it would be like the film. I would continue to go back to it and now look back on it with warm nostalgia. For that reason it was one of my first film location then and now projects and when the chance came up to explore the school I couldnt say no. Even found the piano that Chick Murray was playing at the end and tried to buy it but wasnt able to. Probably a good thing as I dont play piano and stay in a flat but had to try.

By the time I got into Grange hill the first cast had moved on and Tuckers luck was on so my era of Grange hill was Zammo to Ziggy. Dont think I saw the last few seasons, wasnt the same without the sausage.

Great to see so much has been retained, not just in the buildings etc. A lot of those school doors, even the door knobs. The same Belfast sink as well! I thought I read some time back that the clock was to be relocated? It apparently caused a stir with fans of the film, is that correct? Superb viewing, I must watch this film again.

I have some bad news for you. The day after I had access to the school the demolition company took possession and at has since been flattened. The clock is still currently on display in a back corridor of the shopping centre in Cumbernauld. When they built the new Queen Street station in Glasgow there was talk of buying the clock to locate it there but the shopping centre were not for selling.

@@AstonishingGlasgow Blimey, how lucky you were to get access to and photograph such precise detail. So sad to see the school has gone, regeneration they call it! That makes sense about the clock, a great film location, keep it where it is, it creates custom for location hunters as well as Gregory's Girl fans a place of homage. You even found the tree! Now to find those flats where the girl was removing her brassier at the beginning of the film, or did you lose breath and pass out on finding??

I was really lucky to get into the school and I managed to come away with the door number plate from classroom 1.4, the door Susan (Clare Grogan) walks into with the pile of books at the start of the film. The nurses home at the start was in real life an electricity board office block and training centre. It was demolished about 5 years before I started the project unfortunately so I missed the chance to visit that location.

I saw Gregory’s Girl when it came out in the States, I was in high school. It was me n my sister’s favorite. We had just got cable tv and Gregory’s Girl was played in heavy rotation, on Cinemax I believe. I think we watched it once a week for a year.
I was infatuated with Claire Grogan already through the band “Altered Immages”. I had the LP’s 45’s and EP’s.
My sister was a beautiful leggy model and hence could get us into any nightclub. When Altered Images played Boston at the Paradise Rock Club she got in the front door with no hassle whatsoever then and let me and our best friend in the back. We were 15, 16 and 17 years old.
I went to a lot of proms and a few cotillions in those years, 11 in total. I owned two tuxedos and one beautiful white dinner jacket, it was single breasted with a shawl collar, and fit much like Gregory’s - I was 6’ tall and all arms and legs and a mop of hair.
America had its teen flicks like Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, and Porkey’s -they were crude, often racist, homophobic, sexist; - they seemed to exploit and pervert the innocence of adolescence.
But that’s not what I came to post about. This was one of my favorite movies and still is. And Claire and Altered Images are still doing gigs! I’d love to go see her and the boys sometime.
    Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for getting in touch Richie. Its really interesting to hear how the film translates in other countries though I wonder if you have grown up with the dubbed version? My video uses the original dialog but there was a reduced version produced for North America where the accents are a little less Scottish.

"She's got a brraaaaahhhhziiieerrr !" LOL I remember that Peeping Tom scene well. The other scene I remember is where he got a suspected concussion and his mother and I think his old aunt or someone were trying to tear his clothes off to get him into 'hospital patient mode'. You just don't get funny yet innocent 'coming of age' movies like this these days done so well, there were quite a few in the 80s. In the last few decades you get instead the 'Manic Pixie Dream Girl' type movies (look the term up) where a regular guy falls for the highly unstable beautiful but elusive girl who turns his life upside down in pursuit of her, think Garden State, The Girl Next Door, 500 Days of Summer, Ruby Sparks. Although in all fairness I think that 'John Cusacks' "Say Anthing' in the 80s was a bit like that.
