    The Fog is still one of Carpenter's most atmospheric and genuinely classic horror film. The opening will never be beat. An old salty sailor telling a story by the campfire about a classic seafaring legend.

    • @ChrisNoeth
      @ChrisNoeth ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The opening is EXACTLY the perfect example why Carpenter movies are so awesome! he distills down everything to it's core, so it can be done any better! This opening rocks and a lot of the other scenes also! Great movie! One of the best!

      It's a movie I was kind of "meh" about when it was released but upon a recent re-watch, I've come to adore this movie. It has great pacing, atmosphere, dread and story. My hope is I can find a cut of the movie before the rewrites that made it what it is today simply to see how the original concept played out. Still, it's amazing how many reshoots there were and how it turned something the director disliked into what is now a cult classic.

I've actually explored all of these otherworldly locations around Point Reyes myself, and it was wonderful to see you capture and annotate them on video in such an engaging way. You guys rock! Horror cinema fans such as myself should consider ourselves fortunate to have documentary filmmakers such as yourselves producing such rich and engrossing content on our favourite motion pictures. When I was 12 years old, my friend and I were watching the Fog at home, at night, on VHS. All of a sudden there were 3 loud knocks on the front door (just like the movie) and it scared the holy hell out of us! We both hid in a closet until the knocking continued and we heard a voice say "Police, please open the door!" I slowly opened the door and it turned out that the cops were raiding the house next door and they were just there to warn us not to go outside until things calmed down.... I seriously thought I peed myself when that knock happened though. Fun times!

    I watched The Fog for the first time last week because I wanted to watch this location video. It restored some love for films, it's so good! I'm getting a little tired of buying films and turning them off because they are garbage. So nice to see an amazing film that I've not seen before. Thank you!!

    I love The Fog. It has to be the most atmospheric horror film of the 80s. You did a great job and lined up some of those shots really accurately to compare with the movie!

    Great vid. John had a knack for "creep factor" in a movie. Anyone else would've turned it into a forgettable B horror movie, but John made a memorable gem out of it. On my first visit to California, the first thing that struck me is the eclectic feel of the place. The fauna and flora, homes, streets, buildings. It's all very unique. I love all the color and lushness. So much history too. It's no wonder celebrities make it home.

    Really enjoyed this amazing video, as I'm a big The Fog fan. I first saw the film when I was around age 10 or 11, my brother aged around 8 or so, and we ended up watching it on TV, probably in 1985 time or thereabouts. I ended up being scared stiff and to this day, my mum says that she doesn't know how we ended up watching it, as she must have been in the other room that night😄..she'd be getting peace for a while, while we were being scared witless in the livingroom🙈. It now remains one of my all time favourite horror movies ! Brilliant seeing the locations again as have seen other videos on them, but really enjoyed this one. Thank you for making this so informative, well explained and fun ! 😃

    This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I like how John Carpenter said he fell in love with the area during filming and lived here for a number of years. Definitely pick up the special edition DVD of the Fog with all the extra videos, don't forget the pier/harbor at Bodega Bay where they filmed as well. Glad to see how many buildings have survived after all these years. 😊

    Around 1990 my wife, son, brother and cousin and their wives rented the house on stilts over the water, the same house in the movie. We rented it for a weekend. My young son (age 11 then) slept in the bedroom that was attacked by one of the pirate ghosts, who in the movie clawed at the door with his hook hand. The owner of the house had a copy of the movie for renters to view if they wished. We visited the lighthouse too, which at that time was closely approachable. My only other very small connection to the film is through Adrienne Barbeau. A friend of mine from my Toastmasters chapter, was in her high school class at Del Mar High in San Jose. He remembered that when Adrienne sat down at a table there was always the question of whether to put “them” on top of the table or stow them underneath.

    Greetings from Germany!
    I watched the movie again yesterday and, like John Carpenter, it's one of my favorite horror films. Seeing what the original locations are really like and where they are was really impressive. The cemetery also gave me goose bumps, despite the daylight. Thank you both very much for the trip! Greetings again from Germany (Berlin) and don't forget to "stay away from the fog!"

    So creepily ironic, in your shot of the Morrison house with the sign Love Street, the sign "Dead End" is directly below and behind it. Also, when at the brick wall with the loose brick, the words on the wall read "no barking" instead of no parking. Hilarious.
    Awesome video!

Derich has adored Carpenter (and Cronenberg) since he was 5 years old. His grade school would call me all the time because he kept reading Fangoria magazine during class.

      I never even watched the remake. I was intrigued when I heard that Carpenter was executive producer of it, then I heard the unanimously negative reviews, it then became clear that Carpenter was pretty much only involved in name only, and the fact that the trailer even looked terrible, and I was like "Nah."
