    Director Bill Forsyth got funding for Gregory’s Girl (1980) following the success of his directorial debut, That Sinking Feeling (1979), a feature made partly with stolen film reel. Actors John Gordon Sinclair, Dee Hepburn and Clare Grogan reminisce about the making of Gregory’s Girl, and its feminist outlook.
    Q&A hosted by writer and academic Sue Harris.

    My favourite movie..for many reasons. I was in Scotland while it was being made, and it was a beautiful relaxed summer in Greenock that year. I was about 15, and loved that the cast captured central Scotland and kids like my cousins on film, and sweetly. Jazzy music was lovely too. I met Claire at a London bus stop 3 years later. I said: you were in Gregory’s Girl.Smiling shyly, she said, softly, yes I was....

      I saw this in 1982. It was ok, a bit over rated in my opinion. Real people don't act this way in real life but we go to the movies to escape the horrible world we live in. Another Gregory girl should be made.

      We need a nicely nice film, comedy and mild drama to escape this horrible world.

    I was a pre-teen when I saw this movie on HBO in Houston, Texas and when I bought the vhs tape of it; I would watch it all the time. My favorites of the movie were 1. Clare Grogan in her little beret. 2. The saxophone all through the movie. 3. The view of twilight in the park as they are leaving.
    I remember seeing the movie without the "Americanized" Voice-Over and it was a big shock. I love this movie.

    Awesome ! I know actors hate being reminded of 'former glories' if they're trying to do new things. But this movie was probably the first ever movie about 'normal' teen life that EVERYONE could relate to ! Gregory's girl remains a favourite of mine even now !

    My grandma and great aunt were born in Fife, Scotland and brought to Canada, then California as kids. I dragged my mom to see this movie in the theater when it first came out. I was so intrigued by Scotland and wanted to visit so badly. Finally did, after my mom passed and got to take my young 10 yr. old son with me. Such a magical time we had there, spent 40 days total in Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. Just wandered around with no agenda or plans. Flew back to the states as hurricane Katrina hit.

    The most heartfelt original identifiable coming of age film of the 1980's wasn't any of the mean-spirited rubbish from the U.S. that us outsiders and socially awkward American teens were told were our experiences. it was the incomparable Scottish realism of "Gregory's Girl."

    Dee and Clare looking totally gorgeous 😍. Gregory's girl is a fantatsic film. I first saw it when I was at high school aged 14 in 1988, we watched it in class one dy. Ive watched the film many times over the yrs since then and i was also watching it actually yesterday on Prime. Its a film that never bores u and me watching it now as an adult almost 50 🙁, the film is still gr8 and still funny. The film also has a fantastic feelgood to it. Btw back to when I saw it in High school, only downside was that our teacher didn't supply popcorn 🙁😥🤣

    • @Mudge07
      @Mudge07 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe if you watch some other of the director’s films and see if they’re as quirky as you think, then see if it’s just G’sG ? Forsyth’s humour is subtle and exploits the nature of the character of the folk the cast portrays; sometimes genteel and witty other times ribald but never gross. “That sinking feeling” is more a boy’s own script whereas, this movie imho was more balanced. The natural humour and vitality shared by the actors in this interview is the essential component of the original: uncomplicated, innate and particularly local.
