Shindou also has a few other quality-of-life things (Mario auto turning to face the back of a tree, etc.). But a Lua script probably could've been used to preserve the regular BLJ behaviour, but that was a bit too complicated for a game designed for casual players.

As far as I know, you can go to PUs on ANY version of super mario 64, even shindou. Since shindou doesn't patch hyperspeed walking (the infamous method for the "build up speed for 12 hours" meme), so you could still do that to aquire pu speed Also, isn't pu movement a TAS only thing since you have to control mario at really high speed extremely precisely to not get stuck in a pu?

BLJs are possible on the US and EU versions, but NOT the JP version. The JP version of the Switch VC uses the Shindou version of the game
