The flinching and sound effect were brilliantly conceived. I found myself recoiling when it happened. Reminiscent of Herrmann's Psycho score of screeching violins. Also, the casting of the film. With little screen time to develop a character, Dewhurst, Campbell, Zerbe and Lom were remarkable. An under-rated gem!

We saw him cry before in The Deer Hunter, but this scene is definitely sadder. Seeing Christopher Walken crying over his lost love is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen. I just want to jump right through the screen and hug him.

He totally forgets her husband is standing right there, focusing on her as she comes to the porch. Then the 'head shake' motion to bring himself back, and then comes the best part: the Genial guy at the door, taking the brochures, making small talk, and sending them on their way...until he sees her husband put his arm round her, and its all he can do to hold it together until he closes the door. His body language motioning towards his pupil to back off a minute while he falls apart. Then he reaches for the student, more comfort for himself than the kid, and THEN the vision hits like an anvil. This short scene shows everything that is piled on this character, and Walken plays it to perfection.
Steven King Was seriously a dark prophet. This story is being lived out right now. This is the powerhouse of using a story to illustrate something. Why did Johnny use an outburst of rage to make his point? Why did STILLson use an outburst of rage to illustrate his point? Ask yourself: 1.
