    As usual, you always bring it with your informative repairs and giving the viewer the correct factory part numbers for whatever service you are performing. I think it is great that not only do you do your job so well.....but that you enjoy your job and you have coworkers who appreciate your professionalism and attention to detail. It is good to see you passing on the proper techniques to next generation of technicians. Keep up the good work and happy motoring.👍

    Now I know what to check next time under the 2001 Lincoln. Replaced the pitman and idler arms when we got it last year(76K miles). Had the airbags(bags failed, then pump failed) replaced with springs and shocks conversion, rides similar but a bit firmer in the back and feels more stable around turns. Also got a "real" OEM aluminum rim for the spare when replacing the 14 year old tires...so we can rotate 5 tires. Thanks for showing us what to look for, part numbers, and how to for Panthers!

      same, I thought they went all aluminum when they updated the steering and suspension in 2003

    • @melvinharris7859
      @melvinharris7859 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      they switched back to steel midway through 2006 for the upper and lower control arms on all panthers. Several reasons they did this, one being cost savings (aluminum is more expensive than steel), and also that Ford increased the front spring rate on the CVPI about 25% at the same time of the switch, and the higher spring rate called for a stronger LCA. So if you've ever driven a later model CVPI and wondered why it rode rougher than yours, that also explains it.

    • @j.t.cooper2963
      @j.t.cooper2963 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@melvinharris7859 I seen your post and went and looked at the build date of my car and it was built in May of 2006 (05 of 06) so I figured they must be aluminum so I took a magnet to them and to my surprise they aren't. They are made from steel after all. They must have switched back sooner than the middle of the year. As far as riding rough goes, mine rode rough when I first got it. After I got rid of the factory steel wheels and put on a set of the Ford premium Bullitt aluminum wheels it rode so much better. A lot less bouncing and jouncing, especially on the highway. I apologize for the mistake.

    • @melvinharris7859
      @melvinharris7859 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@j.t.cooper2963 technically speaking yeah the changeover was May of 06 I believe so pretty cool you got the first month for that.
      Personally I've driven a few later model CVPIs and I always found the front suspension to be rock hard, almost absurdly so, though my standards may be different as I find even my 07 MGM to have a "firm ride" despite the spring rate being less than half of a steel arm CVPI.
      Tires and wheels do make a huge difference. The original Goodyear tires that Ford used on the CVPI rode like bricks compared to the squishy Continentals or Michelins my Marquis or a CVLX would have shipped with. Ford wanted a tire with a stiff sidewall for less lean in corners, though at the expense of grip in some situations. The heavier steel wheels also add more unsprung weight, worsening ride quality, although I will say I personally didnt notice a difference switching from the base 16" steel wheels that came on my Mercury to some higher trim optional 16" aluminum wheels.

    • @j.t.cooper2963
      @j.t.cooper2963 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@melvinharris7859 There was a huge difference in weight between the factory 17x7 steel wheels and the 17x8 aluminum Bullitt wheels I put on. I didn't have a scale to say for sure what that difference actually was but my arm scale could feel a significant difference in weight and like I already said the ride quality was a noticeable difference. I drove the car for a month before I got the new wheels so I was pretty accustomed to the way it rode before the change so the difference was immediately noticeable.
