    I cant believe you just left the caliper hanging like that the whole time...sooo bad for the brake line and connections...on the upper control arm I noticed you skipped over all the brake lines in the way of the nut on the right side....

      Hi Adam Crown Victoria Car repair help
      First thanks for your comment, so that you know I'm not a mechanic that was the very first time I have ever done a jod like that. I did the video because there Where no videos of that kind. And I did it so people can see that if I can do it anyone can do it. I'm learning from people like yourself to let me know what I did wrong and I thank you for that Adam Crown Victoria Car repair help.

    Thanks for sharing Hector. I am about to get complete maintenance on the suspension on my Lincoln LS and didnt know if I should go ahead and replace the lower control arms, but it seems that I should especially since I am replacing the struts (shocks), sway bar, and tie rods.

  • @kccodex8931
    @kccodex8931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Don't forget to put the plastic insulator on the top of the coil spring, otherwise you'll get a nasty grinding screech, when you pull up into the driveway. Also make sure you have the rubber bumpstops in place or you'll blow through shocks, faster than Stormy Daniel's.

    Hector I am working on a '99 Grand Marquis it has the same set up like the Town Car you were working on. My problem is that I can't get the spring up like you did, but i was using the spring compressor tool. Is it better to do it with out the tool?

    What a great video! You know your stuff. I have a 2002 Lincoln Towncar which I bought new which really cleans up nice. But recently, the lower control arm connection broke off while driving. No damage except to my wheel. I would like to replace the front end components just as you did in the video. If I were 30 years younger I would undertake this task but I am 80 years old. I live in Orlando now having moved from Philly. I have not established any relationships with mechanics in the area yet.
    Would you happen to have any contacts in the area that could do this job for me?

    Good Job! I expected that spring to be a lot more work than it was, especially without a spring compressor. The only thing I would have done differently was not to let the caliper just hang there by the brake hose. This will work on every 79-2002 panther platform car, as there are very little differences between them. It may even be basically the same for 03-2011, but I haven't done one of them so I can't be sure.

    I don't know Hector I don't have your luck getting the springs back in both my Town car and Grand Marquis required I compress the spring to get it into the lower control arm seat. Springs were just too long with the arm hanging all the way down to get them in. I dread working with compressed springs just like a grande waiting to go off.

  • @Trizzytrakz
    @Trizzytrakz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I couldn't see how u got the 2 bolts out of the sides of the upper and lower control arm. I'm doing the same job but no one seems to show how to get them off.

    • @JohnSmith-wd9rc
      @JohnSmith-wd9rc 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to disconnect the strut assembly. One bolt on bottom, and 3 on top. Disconnect and move out of the way. The 2 top bolts will slide right out. No need to remove strut completely, just pull it away from the bolts, only an inch or two movement needed.

    • @JohnSmith-wd9rc

      Opps! tizzy. Wrong year, that is the procedure for 2007 Town Car, not the 02's.

    Thank You Carl Delgado for asking the question, but you must do everything safely be careful in everything that you do. just raise the car a little higher and push down on the control arm and it should pop right out just like on the video I did. that was my first time doing that kind of work just to let you know, again thank you for asking the question Carl.

    Left off the step I have the most problem with, access to the upper a-frame nut & bolt. On the drivers side, it is surrounded by brake lines, I cannot get me 13/16 socket to even attach to the nut, which is facing to the rear of the car (DUMB) !!
