    “11th hour” deals with alcohol addiction, exploring the theme through biblical language and personifying alcohol as a demon that takes control of the narrator’s life.

    Lex feeling it in her bones makes her a true metal head. It reminds me of the last scene in the documentary Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey “you either feel it, or you don’t. If metal doesn’t give you that overwhelming surge of power, and make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, ya might never get it…and ya know what, that’s ok. Cuz judging by the 40k metal heads around me, we’re doing just fine without ya.”

    It's amazing how much Lex is in tune with headbangers. Only so many feel that calm in the music. You can get the same feeling in a moshpit. You are just floating, banging into other bodies, but so loose that it seems that you are moving smoothly through a chaotic cloud of energy, riding the stream of music you hear. Not many people, even hard-core ones, can hit that Zen in the chaos, but I think Lex is one of those. Good to see someone find their soul vibe, especially from somebody I wouldn't have expected. I'm happy you've discovered this. 😊

    I've only seen a handful of your reactions, but I've discovered something about myself doing so!
    It's in how you differ in your approaches to music that highlighted it for me. Brad seems to usually take the intellectual road and Lex is on the emotional one (I say usually cus Brad didn't do this on the Static-X song the other day, and he actually kind of enjoyed it for the goofy song it is). Brad wants to know what the lyrics are, what the song is about, and Lex is only concerned with the feeling it inspires.
    In every other domain, I would likely take the approach Brad does, but not with music. 90% of the time (in metal anyway) I can't understand what the lyrics even are in a given song, and it doesn't matter because the voice isn't there to deliver a message to me, it's just another instrument in the composition. I haven't felt compelled to look them up either ever since I discovered at a young age most lyrics are vapid nonsense and even learning them can ruin a song for me (cough Pantera hack wheeze). I've heard this song probably several hundred times, and I never had a clue what most of the lyrics were until today.
    I believe the reason I do this is because of the theater of mind stuff a great song will create in my head, (which is maybe just some borderline synthesthesia) is always better than whatever potentially asinine/poorly thought out message the singer wanted to make.
    And this applies to just about every song on my playlist - from Muse to Kendrick Lamar: the song triggered that reaction in my head the first time I heard it.
    Well, not every time I heard a song the first time. I couldn't sit through the first part of Dancers to a Discordant System by Meshuggah the first half a dozen times it popped up on the shuffle. Now it's one of my favorites, but I hated the picture it painted in my head at first. It's one where the opposite maybe applies, I actually started to like it after I looked at the lyrics cus it made sense that it's what they were going for and they nailed it a little too well!

    When I headbang to great metal I feel... happy and calm. Everything negative falls away, stress, worries, problems. I have the same effect when I wall/rock climb, or when I used to skydive. So yes, I totally understand the being one with the music and the calming effect that results from it despite all the physical movement and headbanging. :)

  • @AKoss139
    @AKoss139 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lex, the way I like to explain it as far as the calming feeling you are having when you are listening to such heavy and awesome music, where most people would probably run away scared, think about when you're driving in your car and you're blasting this music. You are completely focused on the road and yet the music is still blasting your ears and it does not bother you at all where other might feel the need to turn it off because it is distracting to them. There are many songs I am sure that would bother or distract you making you annoyed that the music is ruining your drive, but not this. The point is that you are a metal head and congratulations!! It's a great family to be a part of. Embrace it. 🤘😀

    The calm is when you are a true metal head. Reminds me of the quote from pretty woman movie. People's reaction to opera (metal) the first time they see(hear) it is very dramatic. They either love it or hate it. If they love it, they will always love it. If they don't, they may learn to appreciate it, but it will never become part of their soul. This is the paradox that you two are. It’s apart of her soul now and forever

    Metal calms me. I don’t know why but it calms me down and allows me to think. It also allows me to push through BULL no matter what that BULL is. Now, at a concert it’s a little different. Concerts get pretty crazy but no violence unless there’s one turd in the bunch. Metal is medicinal for me. It got me through three tough deployments. Love your guys!!!!

    This dude is kind of a wet blanket on these metal videos. The contrast between his reaction and hers is hilarious. All love. At least he's giving it a chance and sitting through it. I definitely sense a high, impenetrable, invisible wall on his end though 😆 🤣 😂

    1:40... my wife and I go to as many metal shows as we can here in Tampa. Just saw log with killswitch last weekend. The way Lex feels is the way I've always felt since i was young im 36 years old now. Get out to a show sometime. You deserve it.

    Amazing reaction. You can see how metal music just simply clicks with certain people. Either you get it or you don't. There's a real psychology and brain chemistry thing going on with that and the proof is right there in this video.

    Lex gets it, it's awesome to see to expression of absolute joy from her as that's the way this music makes me feel. To me metal is the frequency of my soul and when I tune into it all my pain and worries melt away and I reach a relaxed but energetic place full of joy.
    Metal=life

    I agree with Lex. I sometimes fall asleep to metal music - it is calming at times. They say loud aggressive music can sometimes calm and relax a person.

    I get Lex. Funny that you say that. Thought i was the only one who ever said that to people around me. It really is calming in a weird, but true way!
    When i was using drugs earlier in my life heavily, depressed ect.ect. - i used this kind of music, while laying down on the bed "meditating" with closed eyes.
    Was the only thing that actually helped in the worst time... :S

    There is actually some science behind the emotion metal makes you experience. It causes the mind stress by releasing those brain chemicals, while simultaneously fulfilling the stress so to speak, so your brain is constantly on a literal trip. Basically you're getting yourself high on stress and releasing it at the same time. Next song: Demiurge by Meshuggah please

    The way Lex explains how she feels is what makes us Metal heads. Its how I feel.
