    • @GlossArt
      @GlossArt ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@DFAnton The word "like" doesn't imply a relationship based on time in itself, but in a sentence where "like" is used to coorelate two separate things, especially when one of those two things is likely the inspiration for the other, the order of those things does imply that kind of relationship. For example, saying "Smash Bros and Multiversus play similarly" would be a neutral statement acknowledging that those two games have similar gameplay, but saying "doesn't Smash Bros play like Multiversus" carries the connotation that Multiversus came first, because within the sentence the usage of the word "like" causes them to become ordered.

    • @DFAnton
      @DFAnton ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GlossArt Even in that example, if "like" implies a temporal relationship, it only speaks to the order in which the speaker experienced the events, which is still valid. Someone playing Smash for the first time and saying "Hey, Smash plays like Multiversus" doesn't imply that the latter came first, only that they experienced it first.

    The scene were this OST is played is the epidomy of the entire show where everything that happened for the past 120+ episodes lead to that very moment. The emotions I felt during that scene were a mix of sadness, anticipation, shock, sheer disbelief and excitement. After the scene I felt as if everything was complete yet it was so empty. It felt as if you finally undersood everything there is to know but your newly gained knowledge took your ability to have any new thoughts, since everything is so obvious and laid infront of you that you can't do anything else except to just look at it and appreciate it.

    Yeah, this track is deep in the run of the series, so it’s tough to contextualize without spoiling, but here’s my best shot:
    We always hear the “triumphant hero” theme in stories because we’re following the hero’s side of things and that cues us in that this is good for our character. In a fight where the hero wins, if we were watching from *the villain’s* perspective, we might get a more somber track instead, because we aren’t getting a good result for the character we’re attached to.
    This track is what plays when what is happening is not good for *anyone* involved.

    I totally agree with this piece standing out from basically everything else you’ve heard. With minimal spoilers, that’s kinda the point. It plays during a scene that in retrospect, totally makes sense, but when you first watch it, it’s a sort of “I always expected something messed up, but I never expected THIS”. It’s easily the most fitting piece of music for the scene it accompanies out of any show I’ve seen, and it’s hard to say much more without major spoilers.

The anime as a whole is already very well appraised, but this episode is what people usually think of when they think about this anime. In every youtube reaction this episode always has waaay more views than every other episode. Since you mentioned it, there actually is a 'Dies Irae' in this anime. It's called 'Riot'. I remember back in University I'd show other students some of the HxH tracks, one memorable reaction was: 'Wait, that's from a TV series?'
    This show probably has the single greatest soundtrack in anime, in my opinion at least. I'd recommend the whole thing, but that's like 120 tracks.
    Still gonna recommend a few that stand out: 'Riot' of course.
    'The world of adventures' describes the mood for the more lighthearted half of the show pretty great.
    'All I need is MONEY' and 'Kijutsushi no Baire' ('The Mad Bailaor' as a different version) 'cause they're thematically very different character themes.
    'Beyond the Seas' cause just listen to that pedal point, '闇夜を告ぐ者' and that dissonance.
    'Requiem Aranea' and 'Gyakujuuji no Otoko' 'cause Aranea.
    'Latent Power' and 'Auras' are the same, one's instrumental the other vocal, both very ethereal.
    'No no Haru', very obviously inspired by the beginning of Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring' and 'Rhapsody on The Theme of Holst' by Holsts 'Jupiter'.
    There's a lot going on in 'Realized Capacity'.
    'Kinpatsu no Gankou', listen to the strings!
    'Dirge from the Dark Side' and 'Hunters ARE evil' are both choral works I enjoy very much.
    The arc in which 'Theme of Kage & RASETSU' resides also has 'Kingdom of Predators', 'Hegemony of the Foodchain', 'Capture', 'The Prey', 'Elegy of the Dynast', 'Soldier Ants', 'Hopeless War', lots of very dark, in places very dissonant orchestrals, culminating in the simple but beautiful 'Understanding', which can only be fully appreciated when having watched the series.
    'Restriction and Pledge' should be listened to directly after 'Theme of Kage & RASETSU', but on its own it's also a great orchestral piece.
    'In The Palace', cause I'm a violinist.
    I'm very bad at recommending only one or two, don't think anyone will read the full comment and listen to all of these...

    As others have said, the track plays during one of the arguably most important episodes not just in HxH, but in all of modern anime. I actually cry every single time I watch it, it is an absolute masterpiece. As some have said, the voice acting (JP) in this episode is a perfect complement to the music as well. In terms of what is happening...it's essentially the protagonist's descent into a form of despair and misguided self-sacrifice as a result of intense rage and guilt, leading to a "power up" moment that is the antithesis of such moments and transformation in contemporary anime

    One of the things that impress me from manga, are the emotions that are drawn in a paper. Its so difficult to link emotions with a piece of paper without context and there is where music comes in. Epic scenes as these ones in anime are the perfect mixtures between story, music and emotions on the voice of thw characters, each one by themself wont give you the whole picture, but together, ... dude... could become masterpieces.

    I haven't seen this episode yet, but when I hear this song I feel deep anxiety and it sounds like a requiem for something important. These dissonances give me goosebumps... Those deadside motives are destroyed me. I want to cry and immediately hide. This is really deep.

    This piece plays during a peak fight of one of the best anime arcs ever written. There's a lot built up here in terms of character development and motivation, and this is the point where the metaphorical zit pops. This is currently one of the last arcs of the anime but hxh is absolutely worth the watch and read.
    I would recommend the Spider's Requiem from this anime as well, but honestly I think it's best experienced while watching the anime with the full context of what's going on.

    So hyped to see you experience this track, and to experience it again myself, after not hearing it for years; an outstanding, haunting piece of music that makes me emotional each time. There is no comparison, in my opinion, to any moment in anime that evokes the same feeling. I think other comments have done well to describe the moment that this music is enveloping, without spoiling it.
    Also the fact that you mentioned Ghost Train in reference to this piece got me interested, so I had to check it out. Such a fascinating story being told in that piece, with impressive composition--I can absolutely hear the similarities in the first mvt.

    Listening to it, even with your breakdown, put me in a state of emergency depression and I subconciously broke my fast/ diet and had to have 2 bags of chips as is my coping mech. for Trauma. The song itself evoked a truama response in me... Is it possible to have PTSD from such a scene if you have a lot of empathy?

So by that logic it's between despair and humanity or no life and no humanity.

  • @J4j4yd3r
    @J4j4yd3r ปีที่แล้ว

    The scene this track is used for is basically a line being crossed into an unknown-yet-certain doom, for very human, very sympathetic reasons. At this moment in the story, no one - none of the characters in the story nor the audience, only the author knows what will happen next. Yet the nature of what is happening in the scene, coupled with a deliberate and recurring foreshadowing since almost the start of the series, leaves the audience with very little hope that anything good will come out of the scene.
    I really love how well the music communicates this dread and foreboding.

    Hey Tony! I'm a big fan and have binged nearly all your content! I'm also a massive HxH fan! I appreciate this a lot. I enjoy watching your videos because it helps enrich the experience of listening to music. You point out sounds that I would've otherwise bundled with other sounds in my head, and it really helps me listen to music in a more critical/"present" sense. It's a lot like an English teacher providing you the tools to better analyze literature and extract more value from the words on the page than what's present. I hope that makes sense, and I hope you get to see this! I hope your channel goes to the moon!!
