Japanese VAs singing the opening or ending actually happens pretty frequently, mostly in slice-of-life, romance, or comedy animes. Being able to sing as a skill is pretty common among VAs in Japan, something I find pretty charming. It's always fun hearing the characters you recognize in the song itself.
No one’s talking about the Ghost in the Shell op which is a shame. I think they have some of the most beautiful openings of all time and I’ve loved them since I first heard them as a kid
People still commenting over the full song video of the 1st Gig OP - th-cam.com/video/EIVgSuuUTwQ/w-d-xo.html - with 'this song will never die' is one of the nice things I have seen anime fans do.
SAC was so good, not in a traditional sense, but it was what I wanted from a Ghost In the Shell TV show. The openings with Origa's vocals and Kanno's writing always set the tone in a futuristic, digital, haunting sense. Also a big fan of Rise by Origa.
It's really fun for me. I've never watched this show before (shame of me). But I've been surprised today, that the main lyrics of OP is in Russian!)) За это и люблю аниме. Оно постоянно удивляет!
God I miss Origa. I really loved her work, and all the songs she and Kanno did for GitSAC I adored. They were as foundational as you can get in my experience with anime music. This song, Rise, Player, Date of Rebirth....Even when they do new GitS stuff, it's just not the same without her voice.
Finally! Someone has reacted to the _Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex_ opening! This is one of my all-time favorites! The second opening theme "Rise" is also very good, though I think I still like opening one best. Really, the entirety of the _Stand Alone Complex_ soundtrack is amazing, it's got a sound like nothing else.
Glad to hear Origa and Ghost in the Shell. Yoko Kanno is a great composer (Cowboy B, Gundam, Wolfs Rain, Space Dandy) I want to hear more of her songs.
Tenkuu No Escaflowne/The Vision of Escaflowne is also AMAZING (the series + the movie OST). Escaflowne was my introduction to Kanno's work. Her range is just so versatile.
That Ghost in the Shell opening is so ethereal and perfectly nails Japanese cyberpunk. By the way that natural oil thing is a reference to something that happens in the show, ha ha.
If you liked the Death Parade opening you should give the rest of Bradio's catalogue a listen, I love all their music and actually got to see them live twice. One of my favourite bands of all time.
The pop"ish" drops are actually one of the reasons why I enjoy Japanese rock so much. You will generally have some pretty wild riffs, runs, rhythms, chords and vocals in the main body of the song and then a memorable, catchy chorus to bring it all home and give it a free spot in your head. It also makes playing J-Rock on guitar super fun, because you'll be playing your ass off during the verses etc. and then you get a fun break to just jam out nice-sounding chords for the chorus.
@@Kinben69 second opening and ending are beautiful. I remember waiting anxiously for both to release officially. Both of them were in my most played last year lol
Realize is one of my favorite anime openings, but I must say that the lyrics and animations really play a large role in its greatness, although I guess knowledge of Re:Zero is necessary to get the full experience - it can get me to tear up.. :)

7:37 thats funny because Fukuyama Yoshiki (the singer in that last line) is the only one in the band that not only looks like an 80s metal dude but also sounds like one, which is a great asset to the band. And if you liked his vibrato, then Endoh Masaaki (the one that had the first line in the song) is the master of the band in that.......................which is something he is well known for. Examples of Endoh's skill can be found in "Ai wo Torimodose" (his Anisong cover), "Engine" or "Believe in Nexus". And yes, out of all JAM project members, he is my favorite. And mind you that all JAM Porject members are in their mid- to late-50s (outside of Kageyama Hironobu who is in his early 60s) and they are still kicking well.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC has a special place in my memories, being one of the earlier shows I got into when I was new to anime. I think the second season OP Rise is worth a listen as well. Not a lot of soundtracks have this style.
Ghost in the Shell is one of the most unique sounding openings and wish it made more top opening lists which has a lot more standard sounding music and a lot of older openings starting to fade.
OH MY GOSH, YOU LISTENED TO ORIGA!!! It completely broke my heart when she got lung cancer and passed. =( Definitely listen to more of her music when you get the chance! Especially Rise!

Fun fact about the Edgerunners opening: for the version used in the anime, they deliberately cut out the lyrics anytime the song says "Burn This City" to show David's relative powerlessness in the face of Night City.
They also tried to tell you that no one can burn Night City. If you try to burn it, You will be the one who got burnt in the end. Which I doubt even V can did it. Night city is sad but quite beautiful world. I'm glad they announce dlc and sequel since Cyberpunk universe has many so tales to tell.

32:21 "Miyu Tomita and Mariya Ise are also voice actors for the main characters [in addition to singing the OP]. How often does that happen?" That is actually somewhat common in anime. I would say I have heard great performances from voice actors and actresses and performances that were total stinkers. Inner Universe !
Yoko Kanno is clearly the greatest in that industry !
Even in 90's and 2000's it was almost like there was nobody but her. x)
The OST of Made in Abyss is amazing.
My favorite types of videos in this channel, Multi anime Openings :DD
32:21 "Miyu Tomita and Mariya Ise are also voice actors for the main characters [in addition to singing the OP]. How often does that happen?" That is actually somewhat common in anime. I would say I have heard great performances from voice actors and actresses and performances that were total stinkers. I mostly encounter them where the music comes off as cute in slice of life, Romance, and comedies.
