@@Psykotik_ you are right! Togashi sometimes takes long vacations during the serialization. As a result, it took us Japanese 10 years to complete a few arcs of his manga. This chapter lasted from my teens to my twenties. lol
Same here, I first laid my hands on it when I was 14 or 15. I‘m 37 now and it’s literally my favorite piece of fiction, bare none. Thoughts to Togashi, he is the ultimate legend!
11:18 No, Biskys NORMAL form is the hulk, she uses nen to get into her cute small form. Gon made a nen pact like Kurapica with his chains. But instead of having a condition, like "If I use this power against anyone that isn't a spider, I'll die." he just paid the price upfront. "I don't care, if this is the end." was what he said, so he just threw his life away on the spot, meaning this pact is "Give me enough power to kill Pitou and in exchange I will die." without any conditions, he just paid with his life to gain this much power out of nowhere. Any nen user can do this technically, so fighting someone with nothing left to lose is especially SCAAAAAAAAAARY in the HxH world.
I wouldn't say every nen user can do this. You need a lot of potential and to be in the right headset to make the condition as strong as possible, which works best when you REALLY believe in the conditions you set. SPOILERS WARNING: I suspect Gon's condition wasn't as simple as "I need to kill this thing that's stronger than me, so ill just die afterwards". For the amount of power he gained its more likely his condition was even worse than death.. to be a 24/7 hospitalized raisin suffering in pain for his entire life.
@@sayit8ntso I stand by what I said, TECHNICALLY every nen user can do this is what I said. You can use nen? Then you can make pacts. That's just factual. I said myself that a person with nothing to lose would be scary, because obviously you gotta be in an insane mindset to do this. And the resulting power would vary based on the individual persons potential, that's obvious. So, I don't disagree with anything you said, I'm just confused why you phrased it as a correction, as my statements literally agree with you 🙃
Well, every nen user could technically make the pact, but they wouldn't gain any more power than they would have through natural means. We've been shown that Gon's potential is 'one in ten million;' not even regular prodigies in nen would stack up to that. Also, it's important to note that Gon would *not* have achieved that much power when he was grown up. The power he gained was essentially his maximum possible potential if he had endless training. I doubt any nen users reach their ceiling other than someone like Netero.
@@sayit8ntso I disagree with the spoiler part. The reason why he was hospitalized was because Gon is a child. His body was not able to keep up with the rapid growth and thus had shriveled up after he lost the power. I would argue that an adult who makes the same pact, although obviously not gaining the same level of power, would not have been in the same state afterwards. Additionally, Gon's transformation was likely that due to the fact the he's an Enhancer. I bet that it wouldn't really be a physical transformation for any other nen category.
Fun fact, the reason Gon's hair is THAT long is literally because he traded for the point of his adulthood at the point of his potential where he was stronger than Pitou to defeat her. So he essentially transformed into his body as if he trained in that same spot for DECADES. So that is the length of his hair having never cut it for decades, like his muscle, nen, strength and reaction time his physical features like his hair was transformed onto him too. Cool detail from Togashi!

Usually in other anime, transformation for MC is always a positive thing, After struggle for some time MC rages and beats the Villain after power up and everyone celebrates without any huge consequence for it , but HxH didn't do it like that and left the viewers in shock and horror. Harsher the power greater the consequence is, and they nailed the Ost, silence, animation it was just beautiful. what i love about gon's transformation is that it isnt bullshit. its not some random new form power that he unlocked like other shounen anime. the price he paid is equal to the power he got.
and this is true throughout the anime/story. Yes there is "magic" in the world so it is fantasy but within that fictious world it is always explainable/believable. I love that about HxH. Even "why would Gon ever do something like that?" is explainable by his purity and recklessness. The power he got is explainable with the potential that he had in him but not yet achieved due to his young age.

23:38 it's postmortem nen -> stronger cuz it's the last wish of the dying nen user. It has been explained by chrolo once when he said the chain user can not be killed before exorcising his nen cuz maybe it gets stronger after death. If you ever read the manga you will come across an even better example😉
My takeaway is that Gon was trying to redirect his rage on blaming Pitou, prepared to die, and hopefully his Post-Mortem Nen would latch on Pitou and kill her.
Yeah I only watched the anime last year and surprisingly didn't get a single spoiler til then. Really appreciate how the HxH community stays lowkey and chill. Definitely one of the chillest fandoms out there.
It's fun to rewatch the show too cuz you realize that most of the nen masters who meet Gon refer to him as "dangerous" or "a monster", this exact reason is why Wing is so careful with who he teaches nen to.
I think I must have cried the first time I watched episode 131, not just because of how devastated Gon was and how he basically sacrificed his future to kill Pitou. Many people have explained his transformation as this: He essentially gave the universe a blank check, and told it to write whatever price it wanted from him, in exchange for making him so powerful that he can defeat Pitou. As Killua points out, this form that Gon assumes is what he would probably have looked like in the future at his peak, after all the training that he would have over decades/years. It's so incredibly sad because you see the contrast between Gon and Killua, and how Killua was so worried for his best friend, and what would happen to him after he did all this crazy stuff. Watching your best friend turning into what Gon turned into and seeing him suffer like this must have been such a punch to his gut, which is probably why it makes people shed a tear or tear up.
Me too, all I'm thinking watching Gon rage like that, is that he gave up his future for this one moment. And I felt bad for Killua, I know he is blaming himself for allowing Gon to be like this
I think the strength of nen that you get back from whatever conditions is also connected with how convicted and determined one is in achieving their goals. Gon is so strong not just because of the condition, but also because he’s as strong willed and stubborn as they come.
Just a remember: The that Pitous said "I knew it... he's power is now equal to that of the King" is a mistranslation for the english subs; the original is "I knew it... his fangs now can reach the King's throat"
Cannon getting teary eyed and not understanding why... I was so upset the whole time watching this episode, I was crying the whole Gon/Pitou fight or whenever it has anything to do with the conflict between Killua/Gon's friendship... Their friendship is so beautiful so every time something sad happens around it, I'm in shambles lol
I remember feeling something was missing from the kite story. And then I found out there’s a lot more in the manga about him. But the scene still works and hit me like a ton of bricks. Gon is alone and scared. He’s jeopardized his relationship with killua and now he longs for him. The closest thing to a father he’s ever had is dead. The closest LINK to his father is dead. On top of that he feels like he failed his dad by getting his friend killed. He was willing to sacrifice everything to find his dad, and he failed, so he’ll use everything. It’s perfection.
The king tried to kill Pitou with one hit to the head as well earlier in the arc. Pitou is not that easy to kill off, not even for him. So it makes sense that it took Gon a few blows to finish her.
Just imagine the fact that Gon's kick was enough to incapacitate her to the point where she couldn't retaliate. The king tried to end her life but pretty much unbothered. She was correct in her deduction that Gon could literally reach Meruem's throat granted pre rose.
pitou died in the first rock paper scissors. gon was literally bashing a corpse. but pitou's ability + her devotion the the king made possible that her nen controlled her body even after death. that's why gon literally obliterated her body at the end
Throughout the show, time and time again, people would look at Gon and think "he's a monster". Meleoron, Bisky and Wing are some of them. And this episode shows the reason for that perception. Gon has always had trouble accepting anything other than his way and this is what happens when this side of his is tested to the limit.
when Pitou cut off Gon's arm she was already dead, but as we learned in Yorkshine City with the fantom troupe, nen after death can be very powerful if the dead person had a strong will to fulfill his desires, Pito's desire to protect the king caused her puppet ( Terpsichora, so the puppet that put her physical strenght at 100% ) to control her body to kill Gon even after her own death
For context, when Pitou died, her love for Meruem caused her to activate post mortem nen. Since death is the ultimate condition, she’s able to do the impossible and keep fighting while dead in order to protect the king
Remember Phinx mentioned at the very end of YorkNew, that the whole reason they stopped chasing Kurapika was because Chrollo no longer had Nen and if they killed Kurapika his intense vengeful Nen would still go after/kill Chrollo even after death, which Pitou did here to attack Gon.
You guys should absolutely listen to that spooky theme for Gon's transformation all by itself. It's called "Kage to Rasetsu" and it's so haunting but so amazing. Absolute chills
When Pitou attacks afer loosing her head it is because of the concept of "Post Mortem Nen" when someone have a great resolve die using Nen his Nen becomes more powerfull and praticly limitless becoming able to do something that we can consider impossible (ex: Nen can curse someone, reviving someone , of like here in this scene it can make a dead body fight)

I'm at 27:57 - one thing for sure: you CANNOT predict how this arc will end. I can assure you of that 100%. Togashi is really good at going for the unexpected outcomes while also having built it up for a loooong while.
I like how netero and gon are so much alike. Both losing their humanity and turning into monsters. When gon loses his arm he acknowledges that he is now like kite and is redeemed. During Netero’s battle he loses his arm and acknowledges the fact a prayer comes from the heart in which he doesn’t need 2.
feel like this was Togashi's answer to the standard Super Saiyan-esque power up that so many Shonen MCs get in their time of need, but completely flipped on its head. That's what makes me feel that Gon is essentially supposed to be the true horror of Shonen protagonists: a tunnel-visioned youth whose unwavering innocence, childishness, and selective forgiveness really is just horrifying when put under the right lense. Gon really is just a horrifying yet more understandable take on Kid Goku.
The juxtaposition between Meruem and Gon is what makes this arc goated. Meruem is a monster who gradually gains human qualities, whereas Gon is a human who becomes a monster. Gon and Meruem sitting in the same exact position in front of their adversaries and constantly having scenes cutting between foreshadows this moment perfectly. Then you also have Netero/Gon being drawn to look like demons during the fights to represent humanity's endless malice, whereas Pitou/Meruem are pitiful and levelheaded (more human qualities) respectively. Pitou's portrayal also took a 180, as they started off the arc being depicted as a stoic menace, but gradually devolved into a pitiful, helpless victim when confronted with Gon's malice. Straight peak.
The tragedy unfolding in this episode brings me to tears every time. HxH is one of the shows that on the secound watch just gets you so heavily in the feels at random moments, because with the knowledge of this every hint to this episode stings your heart with a knive.
After episode 131, I finally learned why his name is "Gon" because his mind was "GON" after he saw Pitou wouldn't heal Kite. The ant arc is literally 90% the reason this anime even has the psychological genre tag
I genuinely love that this episode plays out with a "rage powerup" moment like many other shows but the power system itself is so robust that not a single moment doesn't make sense within the bounds of the system they're locked into. For many lesser shows this would come in the form of a weird lineage thing or just some random powerup but in HxH it actually makes logical sense within the confides of the power system. Technically any Nen user could theoretically do this (with varying results). One of the single most well thought out power systems in all of media.
I love this because this is like the opposite of Goku going super Saiyan. While Goku does the heroic act of surpassing his limit in order to a avange his friends and save the world, gon sacrifices everything just so he can express his rage. He sacrificed all of his training, talent and future just to be able to hurt someone who hurt him.
I forgot that his power matches the king when he's in that state. I still got chills eventhough this is not the first time I watch this. so happy that I could watch again with you guys! thank you.
It took that much to destroy Pitou’s body because she’s a royal guard. They’re *very* tough. Remember when Meruem tried to kill her with his tail slap? She took it to the chin like it was nothing.
@@randomchips7099 Wow, way to miss the point. Did I ever say Pitou took no damage from jajanken like she did with Meruem? No. Did I ever say Meruem’s tail slap was comparable to jajanken? No. The point of the example is to show Pitou is extremely tough. Meruem tried to kill her like he would any other ant, and it did next to no damage. He didn’t go all out, but that’s still impressive. So when Gon tries a lot more emphatically, we shouldn’t expect her to just explode. We expect her to be instantly incapacitated (like she was), but to assume her body will just be decimated in one hit doesn’t make sense because of how tough she is. And for the record, Gon’s last jajanken was WAY more powerful than the others if we go off the visuals. If he kept using normal ones, I doubt it would ever destroy her body completely (or would at least take a very long time).
Remember the scene when Kite said what if there are Ants who care about other like human to Gon in his mind? The moment when Gon knows Pitou was healing Komugi and realized what he was doing are wrong, the conflict started from his inside. This show mentioned Light and Shadow a couple times. I thought that was refering to Gon and Killua. But in fact that was about Gon. Funny how Netero and Gon were purely satisfying their own personal reasons, but the King starts walking toward the human side because of Komugi. Just like Netoro said "Meruem, king of ants, you understand nothing... of humanity's infinite potential for evolution." Fun Fact: In the Manga, the ruby (振り仮名) of "evolution" was "悪意" which is "malice". Which means evolution (malice). "you don't understand a thing... of mankind about the limitless malice."
Most watchers see a kid who lost his humanity, but I see a broken/traumatized child who has been pushed to his limit by man eating ants. He felt a deep emotional connection for kite how the royal guards revered the king.

I could write a thousand words about this episode but one important thing I can say, HunterXHunter is a Masterpiece. Just one thing to point out is the fact that Pitou was sorry twice in this episode, she clearly grew as a character, even Pouf pointed that out before. Also if Gon ended up defeating the King that would have been very cliche, main character gains power up and defeats the main villain, that is absolutely the opposite of what HxH is, the way the writer ended this arc is so amazing and genius. Also, Yorknew isn't really the end of the Phantom Troupe and Kurapika's story so if you keep that in mind the ending of that arc is pretty great.
I think Gon blames himself for what happened to Kite, that's why he's glad that pitou actually cut his arm, it's like he redeemed himself and able to let go of the guilt that he's feeling. Bro, when i saw this episode way back, i was screaming like a lunatic 😂
Gon going JOJO Mode is one of the Greatest Moments in Anime History for me, It's so well done that no matter what anyone says i can't help but feel bad for Pitou which is just Insane 🛐
I think nothing beats this episode in the shock it cause to the viewer, because here you can see clearly the separation of the tipical shonen to a new type, something quite unique. Everything here is made to perfection so you can have a roller coaster in just 23 minutes, you end beaten by it. 16:23 And this is the perfect example, after Killua screams Gon's name to reach him one last time, everyone, absolutely everyone react the same way, completely silent, because you are watching the main character give up, you are watching it do a last effort to get his revenge, you are watching him die, and not for the sake of the world, not because he is defeating the final boss, just for revenge, he throw away everything for it, but you are as confuse as Killua even when the entire thing is happening before your eyes, you little by little are becoming aware of what is happening until the very end. This episode is the peak of anime, and in your next watch you will understad it better, and in the next one you will see something that you didn't catch before and so on, and after many other watchs you could do, it doesn't feel less impactful, that's the beauty of this episode and is trully impressive.
Prior to Pitous nen after-death, Gon hit her a total of 9 times since cats have 9 lives, and despite his appearance he still has the nature and naïveté of a child. Also I can’t remember specifics that foreshadow his twisted mindset on this other part, but when he loses his arm it both makes him glad that he can be like kite, but he also says “you can have my right arm” as a call back to Pitou giving him her right arm when healing Komugi, and now in his mind they’re even.
i’d say that hxh’s animation stands to current date as very good simply because every episode stays the same consistently nice quality which is actually much harder to maintain especially in such a long running show, nowadays much shorter anime struggle with switching between occasional godly action scenes and choppy/lackluster animation and art inbetween 🤔
There were so many hints and foreshadowing from other characters about Gon’s mindset and how his “pureness’’ was both refreshing and terrifying. There’s no balance in Gon cause he has no filter in his pure and extreme emotions and a lack of care/thought about the consequences.

@@SolidSnake240ofcourse post rose king is more powerful. He literally healed and took two other royal guards powers, he gets power by consuming nen users . But before rose king might be same as adult gon , because they both were made parallels .
If one punch made a Royal Guard unconscious I think Gon could harm the King consistently and beyond of the damage dealt by Zero Hand of Netero. Enhancers are op, imagine a Uvo much more powerful.
At the end Meruem would win because his body is more resistant though.
Gon completely casual kick pitou up into the sky and pitou completely lost it . Something even neteros 99 hands attack couldn't do . Netero only punched pitou far away , while slight attack of gon to pitou destroyed her / him .
Gon just lifted his left leg and send pitou flying unconscious.

You were in High School at 28 years old? The Chimera Ant Arc in manga form was released in the 2010's lol

11:18
No, Biskys NORMAL form is the hulk, she uses nen to get into her cute small form.
SPOILERS WARNING:
I suspect Gon's condition wasn't as simple as "I need to kill this thing that's stronger than me, so ill just die afterwards". For the amount of power he gained its more likely his condition was even worse than death.. to be a 24/7 hospitalized raisin suffering in pain for his entire life.
yeah i dont know why people have so much trouble identifying a suicide in front of them xd
@@sayit8ntso
I stand by what I said, TECHNICALLY every nen user can do this is what I said.
This is why Wing told Gon not to follow the nen contracts that Kurapika person was doing. These nen contract conditions are dangerous
and he did it willingly out of despair. Gon's just too reckless (you saw that during Wings training too)
Fun fact, the reason Gon's hair is THAT long is literally because he traded for the point of his adulthood at the point of his potential where he was stronger than Pitou to defeat her. So he essentially transformed into his body as if he trained in that same spot for DECADES. So that is the length of his hair having never cut it for decades, like his muscle, nen, strength and reaction time his physical features like his hair was transformed onto him too. what i love about gon's transformation is that it isnt bullshit. its not some random new form power that he unlocked like other shounen anime. the price he paid is equal to the power he got.
It's been foreshadowed(?) From the point they mentioned conditions and prices. It's the same thing as Kurapika, but worse.
and this is true throughout the anime/story. Yes there is "magic" in the world so it is fantasy but within that fictious world it is always explainable/believable. I love that about HxH. Although a lot of people always hint at gons transformation, I think it’s remarkable how little spoilers there are on mainstream anime media!
Yeah I only watched the anime last year and surprisingly didn't get a single spoiler til then. Really appreciate how the HxH community stays lowkey and chill. Definitely one of the chillest fandoms out there.
Cannon was quite literally speechless watching it LMAO
I went back and rewatched it immediately after😂
It's fun to rewatch the show too cuz you realize that most of the nen masters who meet Gon refer to him as "dangerous" or "a monster", this exact reason is why Wing is so careful with who he teaches nen to.
I love that you guys realized from the go that this transformation is not a good thing, it doesnt come from a good place.
Did they tho?
Just a remember: The that Pitous said "I knew it... he's power is now equal to that of the King" is a mistranslation for the english subs; the original is "I knew it... his fangs now can reach the King's throat"
Yes. I don't like how the anime just flatout says that he's equal to the king. All Pitou meant was that Gon is dangerous and he can't get near Meruem.
The amount of damage this mistranslation has done is crazy lmao
In french , they says that is fang now reach the king throat
Yeah sucks they mistranslated it but even if it was true it wasn't true at that point because of Mureem being even stronger than before.
That’s actually insane that they messed it up sobadly

THE EPISODE WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I remember feeling something was missing from the kite story.
This is the best reaction you guys have done to this classic so far. Its a classic episode with epic moments.
The king tried to kill Pitou with one hit to the head as well earlier in the arc. Pitou is not that easy to kill off, not even for him. So it makes sense that it took Gon a few blows to finish her.
9 hits for a cats 9 lives, but nah pitou died probably after like the second hit and then her nen activated after death
Just imagine the fact that Gon's kick was enough to incapacitate her to the point where she couldn't retaliate. The king tried to end her life but pretty much unbothered. She was correct in her deduction that Gon could literally reach Meruem's throat granted pre rose.
We were speachless too...
pitou died in the first rock paper scissors. gon was literally bashing a corpse.
but pitou's ability + her devotion the the king made possible that her nen controlled her body even after death. that's why gon literally obliterated her body at the end
This is one of the Goat episodes in all anime..I’ve seen the series a couple times and still get chills when I reach this point 🔥🔥🔥
Throughout the show, time and time again, people would look at Gon and think "he's a monster". Meleoron, Bisky and Wing are some of them. And this episode shows the reason for that perception. Gon has always had trouble accepting anything other than his way and this is what happens when this side of his is tested to the limit.
Cried again for the nth time, no matter how many times I’ve watched this episode
Same. I was crying and laughing watching this 😂
when Pitou cut off Gon's arm she was already dead, but as we learned in Yorkshine City with the fantom troupe, nen after death can be very powerful if the dead person had a strong will to fulfill his desires, Pito's desire to protect the king caused her puppet ( Terpsichora, so the puppet that put her physical strenght at 100% ) to control her body to kill Gon even after her own death
Madhouse did this incredibly, the choice of music at the perfect times, just goated
You guys should absolutely listen to that spooky theme for Gon's transformation all by itself. It's called "Kage to Rasetsu" and it's so haunting but so amazing. Absolute chills
Most anime transformations are an "I win" button, this one was a "I lose, but I'll take you with me" button.

And how the King is the opposite: he starts as a purely evil monster and transforms into a human.
McKay couldn’t stop his smile throughout the reaction 😄 he can’t hide his excitement
131 will always be the one of the best if not THE BEST rage moments in all of anime
When gon said he got the job done as kite asked him to, it was to pulverize the ant’s head. He actually respect kite a lot
feel like this was Togashi's answer to the standard Super Saiyan-esque power up that so many Shonen MCs get in their time of need, but completely flipped on its head.
DBS manga recently used this principle of sacrificing your life to gain power too
won't spoil who did it or how though
I love gon n killua so much. It hurts me so bad see them like this after everything they've been through. They dont deserve this man
The parallel between Gon and Kurapika is crazy in terms of making a nen contract
some of the best storytelling in anime history imho. so so good.
Straight peak.
never clicked so fast 😭😅
The tragedy unfolding in this episode brings me to tears every time. HxH is one of the shows that on the secound watch just gets you so heavily in the feels at random moments, because with the knowledge of this every hint to this episode stings your heart with a knive.

Lol

“What the actual freak?!” Well, it’s GON FREECS lol 😂
It took that much to destroy Pitou’s body because she’s a royal guard. They’re *very* tough. Remember when Meruem tried to kill her with his tail slap? She took it to the chin like it was nothing.
bro that was a tail attack without any nen so comparing that with jajanken is🙄
@@randomchips7099 Wow, way to miss the point.
Man... 131 is an absolute masterpiece

Just like Netoro said "Meruem, king of ants, you understand nothing... of humanity's infinite potential for evolution."
Fun Fact: In the Manga, the ruby (振り仮名) of "evolution" was "悪意" which is "malice".

That was the first time we hear kiluya footstep

BEEN HERE SINCE THE FIRST EPISODE AND IT'S FINALLY HERE !!
Prior to Pitous nen after-death, Gon hit her a total of 9 times since cats have 9 lives, and despite his appearance he still has the nature and naïveté of a child. Also I can’t remember specifics that foreshadow his twisted mindset on this other part, but when he loses his arm it both makes him glad that he can be like kite, but he also says “you can have my right arm” as a call back to Pitou giving him her right arm when healing Komugi, and now in his mind they’re even.
carters reaction at the end of the episode never gets old
i’d say that hxh’s animation stands to current date as very good simply because every episode stays the same consistently nice quality which is actually much harder to maintain especially in such a long running show, nowadays much shorter anime struggle with switching between occasional godly action scenes and choppy/lackluster animation and art inbetween 🤔
There were so many hints and foreshadowing from other characters about Gon’s mindset and how his “pureness’’ was both refreshing and terrifying. There’s no balance in Gon cause he has no filter in his pure and extreme emotions and a lack of care/thought about the consequences.
