Hello, I am novice with no knowledge of electronics but like to tinker. I tried your Number 1 circuit, the mod of 2596 module. I used every thing exactly same as in your circuit except the capacitor I used is 1 microfarad instead of .68. The module I have has built in voltmeter. My set up did not work. The voltage at the 2596 original out terminals reads what the built in and external voltmeter reads but there is 0 volt at the new out terminals, no matter what I do. I tried it with 9V battery, 12 volt, and 18.5V 4Amp power supply. I think some how the 1K resistor is blocking the current because the external voltmeter reads it proximal to the resistor but not distal to it. What am I doing wrong? The resitor is 1K, I confirmed it from color code as well as measured it with the meter. Then I tried the project #2 2596 with TIP transistor. I do not have 3055 but have a TIP 42 PNP, rated 40V, 65 Watt. Without replacing the onboard potentiometer, I tested it with 18.5V 4Amp power supply without any load. When I had 14V at the 2596 output original terminals, the voltage at the new terminals is reading only 1.8V. Is that what it is supposed to be? So much drop through the transistor? Thanks.

This is strange. The 317T has a max input of 37V DC, so how the author can claim to drive it from a 60V source is baffling. There's something not quite right here - very fishy indeed!
No you not understand properly this lm317 is hvt it's can work upto 60v this one is new come in market 😊

It's not 60 volts bro, 60A voltage is regulated by the circuit but the load passes through the MOSFET.
