@RoadsUntraveled Definitely a cool build but far from making the mk8 look silly. It's still old AF and has all of the clunky old features to boot. Analog tac, old halogen bulb lights, very little safety features, super dated infotainment, electrical gremlins, traction control issues, etc. This kind of stuff always seems like a kewl idea in videos but when it comes down to the money, it makes no sense. Just like the HPA program for the 7.5 R. Gotta dump $40k into a car that we already paid $40k for. So the buyer ends up spending G80 M3 money for a Golf lol.
It wasn't even the regulations that killed it off, but more so VW's laziness to update the VR6 to keep it very compelling in regards to performance and efficiency. Man, I loved how proper it sounded!

@@pes6616 square cars are nice and he made the right choice going for the 16V instead of the 8 Valve , i live in South Africa so I'm very familiar with square Golf's because here in South Africa the Mk1 Golf was sold untill 2009 , and people love swapping MK2 GTI 2 liter 16 valve motors into them the ABF great cars it's like a blank canvas best first cars
The MK4 in Europe was seen as too heavy to be a hot hatch. Especially alongside cars like the mk1 focus RS and the EP3 type R. I say that as a golf fan btw. That why the Mk5 was quite a step up (in GTI guise anyway)
I'm so glad you mentioned the HPA R32 in Gran Turismo 4. That was ALWAYS my go-to car, and it almost felt like cheating. I even used it in some of the "Special Events" where it absolutely dominated. I've always had so much respect for everyone at HPA because of how much they care about their product and what it delivers. Anything they sell is worth the money, which is why I ran an HPA Intake on my BPY Passat for awhile before selling it. Afshin's R32 is truly a masterpiece and I'm glad you got to have it on the channel.
Sweet VR6 build. That's really cool how you had Kaiser at the beginning! That song is the jam! I'm glad to see HPA has cleaned up their upgrades quite a bit since they used to have hoses going all over the engine bay on quite a few older builds.
Great review and amazing car. I always wanted an R32. Dude is right, I also learned to drive through video games.... I learned to drive stick/manual from a game called "Hard Driving" and also "Race Driving" in the late 80's. I swear after mastering those arcade games I hopped in a Honda CRX and drove off!

My favorite golf R model! I still remember when they were testing this Car in Motor trend on television, I was in awe because I was a big vw guy back in the days when I was only 13yrs old, when I saw the R32 came with 3.2 displacement and awd I was shocked and excited, especially when I started seeing the on the road, at the time my cousin had a couple built turbo mk1 rabbits that ran low 12’s and a mk1 caddy with a built 16v that ran low 13’s all motor that was considered quick for a lot of cars, especially for 4 bangers, it was much more fun time in my opinion when real car enthusiasts existed
I had an 01 Gti VR6 then got a mk4 r32, I’ve loved that car ever since now it’s been 5 years and I’ve put over 60k miles. Such an amazing sounding and driving car

R32’s are supposedly so rare but I see them at every car show. I’m usually the only vr6 Tt anywhere. Vag Show 2024 was last sunday. I feel like this car was there. There was a black magic pearl HPA r32 nearby Jamie Orr’s booth. Sick!!!
Saw a red one years ago it was driven by a chick, she gave me a peace sign while i was passing her in my EK. I dont see it around anymore maybe broke down or stored. Buy ya that era of cars was something special 90s to mid 2010s. I still got my 2003 car magazine (might be lost) with the Evo 8 vs STi. It also featured the Mazda Speed Protege, EP3 Si, GTi and more...
Regarding what you said towards the end, I can only imagine how planted a Mk4 on KW V3s and Powerflex bushes feels. I own a mk4 with the "sport" pack from factory - stiffer and lowered springs - and it feels very planted even at higher speeds, I really like this characteristic and I feel it's very underrated as people tend to shrug them off as "understeery boats". I've tried my best to really upset the chassis and it's very difficult, can't say that about other cars that I've driven (of which people praise their sportiness quality). Excellent car and review, lovely all around.
I have an ‘04 GTI VR6 with H&R cup kit with power flex bushings and Neuspeed sway bar and it handles great for a v6 fwd hatch that’s 20 years old lol. The V3’s are too expensive for a car I paid $7300 for however.
The MK4 R32 the original R is by far the best. Nothing beats the awesome music 🎶 from the VR6 engine. Owned a Deep Blue Pearl with a stage 2 VF ENGINEERING SUPER CHARGER and Intercooler. Had on 28K miles on it when I lost her to a flood 😢.
What coilovers are on the car? I am looking at getting KW V3 but im worried I will not be able to lower it enough to get the stance I like. I love how the R32 looks above. Its exactly how I want my R32 to look.
Please tell me your gonna drive that RSI New Beetle in the next video? I have a Turbo S New Beetle the closet thing you can realistically afford to a RSI and we Turbo S Owners struggle to just find the full body kit of a RSI on resale its like assembling Exodia from Yu-Gi-Oh! Lol
The MK5 is the best generation the R32 version only ways 50kg more than the MK4 generation not bad for a car that's better in every single imaginable way
“The weak point on the engine is the rod bolt…you have to upgrade your rod bolt(s)” BTB the bolts on the con rod. Closed captioning is your friend here.

The VR6 is so slept on. Surprisingly strong engine, naturally; due to those ridiculously thick cylinder walls. Then there's the sound.... chef's kiss.

The MK4 Golf, specifically the R32 and the 20th anniversary edition, were peak VW. And this vr6 sounds soooo damn good 👌👌👌
To me peak VW was with the MK5 it is undoubtedly the last of the greats the MK5 is like the BMW E9x generation for Volkswagen the last of the greatest
The MK4 chassis was total crap. And this comes from a VW fan. The engine may sound great but the dynamics are total shit.
