- We have always wanted a Volkswagen R32! Lucky for us this cheap $3,000 MKV R32 popped up on Facebook at just the right time! Also lucky for us, @JamiesGarage1 Happened to be near where the seller was located! We bought this car and took it to Jamie's shop to get it inspected, then attempted to drive it 600 miles home!

What are you going to do with the bumper on the car? After you put the r32 one back on are you selling it? Could use a good tornado red bumper for my mk5
You can gift me that car Sir it will be helpful to me ,I'm in Africa
Thank you for your support I have unsubscribed

As an original Mk5 owner who still has the car to this day, you guys are brave, not just taking this project on but driving it home sight unseen. 😆
Brave and dumb can sometimes look like the same thing 😜
Dumb courage is the best kind!
Could have changed the gearbox fluid and filter before the trip to give you half a chance 😅
It would be easy when you have unlimited amount of money to throw at it 😂
I had an MkV GTi , it had 230k last time I spoke to the guy I sold it to.
The spider delete was too funny lol
🕷️ 🚫
Scared the shit out of me. 😂😂😂
As a retired VW/Audi tech with 47 years experience I must say that you were a very brave man.
Well. That sounds like that you should never buy a VW or an Audi or other of their EU brands like Skoda or Seat.
What I meant it was risky because of the condition and sounds of the car. I drive a a 20 year old Golf and has been a good reliable car and would drive it anywhere.@@Vixen1525
Are they genuinely unreliable or is it on par with Japanese brands?
Not as reliable as Japanese but not that bad. I live in a salt belt so German cars hold up better than Japanese.@@diobrando9324
@@diobrando9324Honda and Toyota have great reliability with less maintenance. VW and Audi have good reliability with more maintenance. Chevy has ok reliability with a TON of maintenance
Welcome to the club Paul! Now we can be mk5 and R32 bois
So much R32ing
True VW enthusiasts do this shit all the time. Sweet baby jesus help me I'm in NC and about to drag home another Corrado to Oregon.
As an original owner of a MK4 r32 , its sad to see how people neglect these cars especially considering how rare they are in North America. This car is a lemon no doubt.
Poor R32 had a rough life. I don’t get how people don’t take care of their cars
It was said in the first few minutes, it was his daily, he did the big chain service then the gearbox died and it got too expensive.
It's a pos vw? What does it matter?
@@JAKETSU99🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can laugh I have a mk3 golf that’s been off the road 5 years
@@JAKETSU99you have a unrealible scoobie mate. Fastest 0-60 time is on back of a tow truck
@@JAKETSU99yet it’s still more reliable than that junker of yours
It always feels like these cars start having problems that people ignore until they pile up into something that can't be handled. That took some bravery to drive it home! I'm interested to see what you do with it.
This car certainly also looks like it has many crappy parts along with shoddy work too.
Yep proper maintenance is lost among the general population. Last year I bought a mk5 with 130k miles. Original spark plugs. Talking like over a quarter inch gap. Still playing catch up with early oil changes but somehow it doesn’t burn oil. Probably only had like 3 oil changes before I got it. The guy who bought in at auction said he dropped like $1000 in parts to get it road worthy.
My exact experience with my 2003 530i. So much sludge in the oil pan, original plugs, even had to do rod bearings cause the were so badly worn from the lack of oil changes. @@Emoralis

And I thought my hour and a half drive in the pouring rain from Chattanooga to north of Atlanta in my just purchased sight unseen $1100 MK4 with bad O2 sensors/cat (running VERY rich) was scary. This was a few years ago now, but it still serves as a vivid reminder of what VW life is all about..🤣
Waited way too long for another addition to the series, never expected my dream car. Oh my dudes. Thanks a mill. ❤
Paul! I’m so happy to see you’ve added an R32 to the mix!! Can’t wait to see what you guys do next. Perhaps our R32’s can meet up one day and dance it up! Very stoked for what’s to come!! Love your vids as always ❤️
Looks like a deal to me! Fun project car. My daughter paid more for a ragged out TT that is worth a lot less lol. She would have much preferred that car had we found it, though DSG is not preferred.
Great video, again!! Your irrepressible optimism and adventurous style make these vids very entertaining. Always a couple of good chuckles. I love the R32 but never had a chance to pick one up and I don' think I'd want one quite so badly hacked up. Really looking forward to more content on this one! 🙂
Holy cow and here I thought my MK5 was bad. I'm currently at 210000 miles and though it's got a coolant leak, the transmission works well enough to drive on a daily but PRNDS does flash then goes away. Somehow no check engine light though. Obviously, it's had its fair share of mechanical issues but these cars are just something special. This car needs some love and affection and it can be a great addition. Can't wait to see more!
Prnds flashing could mean the Mechatronics might be toasted mine had it and got worse over time till one day the tranny cooked
like the other guy said, its probs mechatronics is bad... good luck finding one though
Everyone knows transmission works via spiders running inside it, that deleted spider was the main component.
Jokes aside, this was a great video! Waiting for the next part
Making me miss my old mkv Wolfsburg 2.0t. Where it all started for me like 12 years ago. Love y’all!
As someone who owns a mk6 gti with a dsg that was behaving exactly like this one right before it stopped shifting into ANY gear, this video was highly entertaining. I'm also curious to see what the insides look like if you get it apart, I had my tranny swapped for a used one and never got the chance to do a teardown.
7:50 reminds me of my first car I ever bought myself when I was 18 (I'm 23). It was a 1995 Nissan 300zx, and it had no AC. I was on a date with my girlfriend and the Georgia rain started pouring down. It was dark outside, the windows were fogging up, my t-tops were leaking on me from the rain, and my girlfriend was the indoor windshield wipers keeping me able to see while I drove. Miss that car, but thankfully I am engaged to that girl now, now I have a project golf getting a transmission right now but thankfully it has AC lmao
While I'm kind of hoping for a manual conversion, I think that the real adversity is more likely to come from rehabbing it and just making it reliable again.
Also hoping for a manual conversion. VW goofed by omitting the third pedal from this car.
@@l00tur. Was available as a 6sp manual here in Australia and Europe
@@chrisparr7476 Sadly we didnt recive a manual in the US. I wanted one but ended up with a dual clutch.
its amazing how some people can really screw up a car
Brave purchase
looking forward to more content on this car.
Exhaust note is lovely
Very entertaining upload and best of all I learnt that the PRNDS flashing is actually a problem because I’ve actually got it on my seat Leon and it drives absolutely fine so I didn’t know it was a thing but now I can actually get a problem or an accident, waiting to happen fixed before anything does happen 😂 great content
Deadly video, me and my wife luved watching it. My son has an 2 seater R32, Savage car, I liv driving it but its so loud and very hard to drive slow. We wish you all the best with it. God bless EVERYONE 🇮🇪... from Ireland 🇮🇪....
I’m excited for this. I just recently had a chance to buy one for cheap.
Seller originally told me “it needs a diff” no biggie.
Then come to find out, the motor and trans is already pulled. And it needs a front diff not a rear.
I hard passed on it.
I loved the Charles insert. Even when you're not in the same place, your bond is unbreakable.
jeeze the production and editing value on this is insane.... i'm mesmerized 2 minutes in lol ty for all this!
You guys are brave! Great watching these challenge videos!
This was entertaining! well done and best wishes from germany for your project with this nice R32.
As a mk5 R32 owner im so happy for this series
This video was really enjoyable but I must say you guys are nuts driving that thing😂😂 can't wait for the next one guys.
That was a good video. Enjoyed it. Looking forward to more content with the R32 👏
Another adventure with Paul and Jamie!
Love these videos from you guys. They are very entertaining
13:21 Best Mod for this car by far! *Spider Delete! And yes, I’m scared of spiders 🕷️
I wasn't a fan of the MKV until I purchased one a few years back. Now I can't let it go.
so excited for this build! i have the same car and im looking forward to learning more about it
Very good video! The car got great potentials! Looking forward to the upcoming episodes!
Man I’m so hyped to see you mount my transmission. I really hope everything turns out great. 💪🏽🔥
I remember leaving a comment on one of your videos way back in the day and damn, this is a quality video.
Welcome back
The rain and window fogging gave me PTSD over my Corrado I sold about ten years ago. That would have been a fun "can I drive it hundreds of miles home" video for someone to make.
I love that the Fahrenheit’s and R32’s are finally getting some content love.
I loved every moment of this, can't wait for more
Good compilation w/ Jamie!
This is gonna be an awesome series fellas!!
I'm not really much into euro cars, let alone VAGs but this channel definitely makes things interesting 👍
This is gonna be fun. Hopefully there is a really tight deadline to get the project done.
You don’t know how much I needed this video🙏
Paul and Charles doing the MkV thing. Awesome!
Am about to buy a r32 and you guys just gave me many reasons to buy a manual
Just subbed can’t wait to see the end result.
Can’t wait to see the build. $3K is a deal
Considering I was just diving through Autotempest looking for one of these, well timed video! 😂
Nice! I live in Sarasota and have used Renn Haus for a couple of my BMWs. Not a budget shop by any means but they are meticulous and do things the right way.
Love the video I’ve been looking around for a mk5 r32 for a while but most I find are 👏🏻 out like yours😂 best of luck 🤞
Omg how good are those cars , drove the long distance with a car with transmission gone and so many thing wrong and he made it ,crazy cars ..thats why i love them 😊
Great for content. So much potential. Gonna be brand new when you get done.
This is something I’ve done in my younger years. Y’all are a bit nuts, but I couldn’t shut the video off till you got back to Carolina. Can’t wait for next phase. Thanks, RickGTI….. 🌴
Love when blokes go round other blokes houses and talk cars - especially when buying one, everyone crosses their arms, it's such a tense situation 😅😅
I would love to see this beauty restored! Those wheels as rough as they are they look good, just imagine them restored as well.
I have a Golf MK4 since it came out and about two weeks ago it started doing the same transmission noises when you decelerated on 2nd gear. Then, it started making a loud buzzing sound as if it had a supercharger on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear respectively. Eventually, she shat all her interiors inside herself, and I had it swapped for another manual transmission and a new clutch. 21 more years//265k miles of beating this *bulletproof snail* to its absolute death.
I'm not good with mechanics , always watching to learn new vw troubleshooting but im wondering about the trans , if it ever had a dsg fluid and filter service, also I have an older gti , that was driving in limp mode , and had symptoms like a bad trans , in fact I was told by some shops it needed a new trans , as it turned out it was a combo of the coil packs and spark plugs needing replacement, with vws sometimes what seems complex turns out to be basic.I cant wait to see the next video on this.
Love both of you and Charles mk5 series Charles one has unique colour but nothing can beat VR6 engine ❤
I'll be at the shop on Thursday. Hopefully I can peak in and see the r32. Paul, Duncan and crew will have their hands full I'm betting.
love the videos, show some love to the MK6
I bought one in 2021 with plenty of issues, but got it cheap only now have I finally got the mechanicals fine, lucky for me the timing chain is fine but basically everything else wasn't, but now with regular maintenance the car should be fine for another 10 years.
Really Stoked to see a V6 engine in your mk5. Here in RSA , We get the inline 5....
just happy to have the exact same car in top condition in my garage. Good luck, you'll do fine 😁
Compared to what I payed for a tornado red rust box. You got a deal. Hope it all works out for you. I too had to drive a few hours after purchase. That's when all the problems came to life.
y'alls production quality has skyrocketed, wow!
We appreciate the kind words.
Curious do you think this video is considerably better than our recent content, or has it been a little while since you last watched?
That spider chase was just the funniest thing :D
It appears to me that at some point that mk5 was stolen and maybe not crashed, but heavily abused. Great video guys!!!
1000 percent I'm Checking & Changing the gearbox oil before that trip 😀😀
They only made 500 red r32s in the United States so that's awesome. I just got a white one number 4287/5000. It's also a basket case. I'm very close to getting it all fixed up. I also used to own number 3967/5000 in blue and that car was amazing.
I'm having a similar issue with my old mk5 jetta. I've had the PRNDS lights come on and it slips when the car has been driving a while but there's an override you can do with a pedal sequence. I'd like to see what's up with the transmission because they're likely very similar so I can see how bad of news it is that I'm experiencing this. Thanks DAP!
I like this kind of videos, adventures and VW!!!
I would love to see you and humble mechanic do something of a vice grip esc "will it make it home" travel series. Not to the exact tune of, but similar.
Great video! Cheers 🍻
man idk how people beat these cars lmao , just picked an 07 gli farenheit aswell 120k in pretty good condition im trying to keep her for sometime and then get myself an r32 👌
manual swap time, the one thing this car needed that we never got.
jami has one of the coolest looking 328i i have ever seen but anyways cool vw find
Reminds me of my 1998 Prelude with the 4-speed auto... trans slipped so bad I had to drive it in manual mode just to make it work.
Hehe love a good basket case car! I have a TT in the same state! Will follow along on the journey!
This is my favourite TH-cam channel.
Clarkson's Alfa made that same gearbox noise that they took on that Alfa special. That's the sign you know you got a good one haha!
love this channel
That spider was probably sitting on Paul's headrest enjoying the ride of an R32 before they reached the shop 😂
Cant wait for the next video on it
A perfectly logical and well implemented spider removal plan
Did you check the trans fluid level? You should keep a C02 fire extinguisher to cool down the trans
Reminds me of the time I drove from Sacramento CA, to Corpus Christi TX with my timing belt making ugly noises and about to blow in my STI. Anxiety was high watching you drive the VW. 😅
I bought one as well. I ended up replacing the engine, trans, front and rear suspension. It’s basically a new car again. But now it’s under me and nothing gets ignored. 😂
Makes me feel better about my 194k mile Mk4 R32 😆Currently going easy on it until I can get it into the shop for chains, has P0016 code and 2.5/3.0 degree chains, but still runs great.
One of my favorite VW TH-cam videos of all time! Gives me confidence to buy something I shouldn’t, drive 500 miles home.. just let it cool down 😮
Loving the one bite orange review 😂
9:50 you can often run a less wide belt and manufacturers even superceed 6PK with 5PK etc...
„We didnt start the fire…“ omg love you hahahhaa funny
Nothing to worry about, that's a huntsman spider. They don't usually bite.
I had a similar issue with my dsg and it turned out to be the clutch basket snap ring
love this adventure
I wonder if the trans issues that you were specifically having was a wet transmission controller plug. My B6 Passat would do something very similar in the very heavy rain on occasion.
Of course, the rest of the trans issues probably means that one is coming out either way.
