If you guys get the opportunity you could look into doing an Alaskan mooring line. Simple but effective and won't allow your boat to swing around the lighthouse during tide and wind change. Use an anchor like a block of concrete or something heavy and a buoy to mark it. Have a pulley attached to the anchor system with a loop of rope. Put two tie off loops in the line that reaches the lighthouse and the other for the boat. When you exit your boat push it off and use the pulley system to pull it out to the mooring anchor. Then when you're ready to leave unhook the loop from the lighthouse and pull it back in to board your boat.
@@COPPER71 That may be a viable option for daytime use but we get massive freighter wakes through there at times and having some of our boats beam to a big wave is less than ideal! We also have lots of inexperienced boaters that come out for a look that would probably try and go between the moored boat and the lighthouse. The level of stupid we see is off the charts!
Hi Luke, In Crabbin’ Terms, that reactor was a radio-isotope decay thermoelectric generator. They take a lead cylinder and core out the middle bit, a little. Then they wire up with Thermoelectric Diodes on the outside, and insulate Over top with some asbestos and ceramic jacket, and then some tungsten or high carbon steel and CARC paint. In the 6-10” diameter core, the drop in a pellet of Plutonium 238, or similar radioactive isotope, which constantly generates a known amount of heat. The Diodes convert the raw heat into just enough electricity for the light, and a few working lights, and such. Every gram generates .57 watts of heat which can be converted to electricity with 5%-10% efficiency. That unit was 60 Watt, so probably had a fuel pellet between 600g and 1200g[20- 40oz]. They often use these to power satellites and deep space probes, since they double as heaters. They also have versions which are only heaters.
@@joegibson2966 yes always tie off to the boats bow cleat for the waves. To improve this you could add an anchor near the foundation of the light and a tag line that you tie off to that way the whole system stays under water.

One of my favorite uploads. I have stopped and stared at that lighthouse for years wondering what it was like inside. Now I know! Looks amazing. Kudos to the owners.
That was powered by an RTG .Russia did that as well to all their light houses and some were still operating up until the 1980's. However due to lack of security, vandals were steeling the copper wiring and left a lot of RTG's exposed.
