I let my crab pots sit in the warm Chesapeake Bay water for too long and now they are extremely dirty. My crab pot cleaner keeps breaking and that means I have to pull my pots and power wash them back at the marina. I hope I can get my pots cleaned and back in the water quickly. Dirty crab pots don't catch crabs and thats a huge porblem.

Sir, I am 57 years old. Do you realize what you bring to the table? You are showing people what it takes to make it. And you will make it. You sir are pure American, we keep pushing forward and we make a way. Thank you for your videos Terry in North Carolina
Yes sir he is ! I'm from N.C. myself and did you notice he was wearing a t-shirt that read Washington , N.C. ?
@@michaelenglish8004I noticed that too. Love this kid. I pray for his success all the time
It has nothing to do with being "American" 😂 you need to turn off fox fake news and open your eyes. Literally every single country in the world has people that work hard and overcome far more than the hurdles we face in America. Pull your head out of the sand
Man you work your ass off. It's like a viscous cycle. I appreciate what you do
You said exactly what I was thinking.
As an aircraft mechanic, I’m horrified. As a man, I’m impressed.
Same here. Retired military aircraft electrician. If younger, I'd go fix him up electrically
I’m in college to become an aircraft mechanic
He had two pumps though! That's called redundancy, it's what you want!
Also an aircraft mechanic and I’m just trying to ignore all the violations on the electric work😂😂😂

Man coming from someone who has been a manager for years. You are absolutely doing this right, find yourself Atleast 4 people you would trust with that business if you died. Pay them well, keep the atmosphere as positive as possible and your life will be a lot less stressful keep up the amazing work Luke you’ve got this
Trust. Pay your folks what TRUST is worth. Not what the work is worth. And hold them accountable.
@@sandymush7163I concur. Trust is worth a lot nowadays! At least it is to me.
Ok bud, big idea here. That whole clean down setup is a nightmare, batteries, residential electrical, no GFIs, no water resistance. Eliminate it all. Get a small generator or gas powered pressure washer and wash them down on the boat. You can pull water with a hose and a filter straight from the side of the boat. That whole corner has a bunch of space without the heater and everything to do plenty. Go self enclosed system and eliminate the electrical/leaky disaster waiting to burn up your boat. Greetings from Indian River Bay DE crab team
A pressure washer will work, but I think the problem is he needs HOT water in order to kill bacteria and algae.
And if he needs heat just get a heated pressure washer. Done deal
There is also the issue with dumping water into a boat, a lot of pressure on the boats bilge to keep up.
My guess is the pump motor is burning out by overheating. Running continuous duty in the enclosed bilge with the water temp being mid 80s is causing an issue with overheating.
I think the whole heater/sump/overflow system is just way too complicated with too many fail spots, and sumps in general pull a ton of amperage usually for those golf cart batteries. It’s probably either pressure wash, or dunk hot to remove the grime..one or the other. My vote’s for a quick spray and reload..I don’t think it’ll create any more water than he already has running over everywhere haha. We don’t drop for 4+ days and turn ours every 24 hrs so we rarely get build up like that but less complications on board is always better mechanically and electrically for everyone imo. Make a knee wall maybe in that corner with FRP and have a dedicated spray spot with a backsplash, heated pressure washer would be 10/10!
Why does the "You ain't no crabber" joke never get old? 🤣🤣🤣
If that joke gets old...well, you ain't no crabber.

@@agmood Right! 🤣🤣🤣
When you run out of deck space but still have another 50 or 75 pots to collect, you can pull a platform on pontoons (a water trailer) behind your boat. You need an operator on the platform to run a small outboard to keep it under control and to receive the handoff of pots from the Southern girl. It can get kind of complicated, but it saves a ton of diesel and time. we used a similar setup in the Gulf
Always wrap your Teflon tape on the way the fitting screws on, it will work better for you. Great video

What temperature does your engine run vs. what temp is needed to clean the pots? If your engine temp is sufficient, try re-routing the cooling water discharge from the engine to the wash tank and eliminate the burner and pump situation all together. Keep up the good work man. We enjoy the vids!
Came here to ask/suggest this very solution.
@@kevinhowell1618me aswell
This was exactly my thought as well
The only issue is that the wash tank is super hot and has to maintain that temp while the engine water would have to be cycled through the tank and out to the bay so it would only retain the heat from the engine which is likely just a bit too low for this job. If the tank water could be cycled through an independent radiator and back into the tank, then it could work to reduce the load on the heater at least but that's some extra equipment on a purpose made boat with little extra room so the tradeoff has to be valuable.
The raw water wouldn’t be hot enough but he has a heater. It would be just used as a pump. If the engine is running you have water. Shaft seal may not like it if it’s water cooled
Finally something good to watch on youtube
On our boat when we clean pots we use a propane powered dip tank. We just use buckets to fill up the tank and the propane heats up the tank. Works great and highly recommend it. All it cost is half a propane tank a day
That was going to be my question. Just have a heated tank.
Time for " you ain't no craber " shirts 😂😅
It's simple dear Watson.marine diesel heaters use the heat exchanger discharge water to heat boats. Use it to you're steamer.
Should generate the proper heat 175+
I was going to suggest using T off the water going back out from the engine. Not that knowledgeable on boats. You said it better.
Don't know anything about boats but it sounds just like the heater core on a car.
Thank you for the beautiful sunrise. It brings me back to being a kid when we would go stay with grandpa in south Louisiana and we spent every min we could in the gulf and on the mermentau river. Never can forget that smell and the wind blowing thru as we headed to the fishing spots. I wasn’t too big on fishing but I loved being out there
Summer of '01 to summer '03 I worked on the Miss Linda out of chesapeake beach md. We got paid 1 dollar a pot to pressure wash them every day after we were done hauling. BUT even your dirtiest pot isn't even close to the ones we were washing. Back then the only way to clean them was to pressure wash so the crabbers waited until there were barnacles and stuff growing on them before they'd haul them in and have them cleaned. They were so bad you could barely see through them. Which makes them even heavier and messier when you have to move and stack them when you're cleaning them. Me and my buddy would clean about 300 a day for 2 or 3 of the days of fishing over the week and split the money. Unfortunately fall of '03 hurricane isabel sank the Miss Linda in the marina and the captain never got her back on the water.
As a 35 year avionics mechanic that hurt my brain to watch.
Harbor freight makes a $60 continous run DC pump that will do the job

Another great video of the behind the scenes of crabbing . One of the best channels I'm subscribed to.
Use a jabsco water pump it runs off of a pulley on the engine. It gets water through a through hull fitting.

I read his titles & sigh, "Poor Luke. Can't he have one day without problems?"
That’s the joy of being a commercial fishermen wouldn’t have it no other way 😎
Glad you made progress with the cooker. Heater outlet temp is a combination of water flow rate and burner temp. I think you are right running a fixed speed pump at reduced flow increases the load and can cause them to fail or trip.
Sometimes it's just cheaper to buy new equipment.
Yeah downtime and time in general cost money. Always a fine balance when your running older equipment.
The problem is he half asses everything. But thats part of his deal..
@@OVERCAPITALIZE Yeah he would definitely be time ahead to just get some decent stuff and put it together properly. And then time ahead puts you money ahead.
Good luck this week Luke! You are an inspiration!
We need to set up some machine donations for this crabber. He needs our assistance!
Fantastic video! The county's slow process for planning permission gives me the impression that it's not a business-friendly county.
Get a jabsco mechanical pump and run it off that 3208 with a belt and you can use a ball value to turn it on or off if you want..i used a 1 inch pump as a washdown pump on my crab boat. They make em in different sizes for you need. So wherever boat was running i had lots of water and they last for like forever.
You always come across so positive in the face of adversity. Do your best to keep that up. Its the key to success.
Enjoyed the video! Life's like a rollercoaster, with its ups and downs. Sometimes you gotta go through a bunch of rough days before the good ones come along. But hey, it's all just part of the journey to becoming a stronger person. And when those good days finally arrive, boy do they feel extra sweet! You're doing what you wanted as a kid, I wish I could do that. Hopefully this week is better!
Luke when I was younger, I was a HVAC technician and I have worked a few Hot Water systems in people's homes. Occasionally pump impellers stop working and the following links I provided are used for hot water use. The pumps run on 120 volts so you would need something which provides this power for the pumps to operate. One of them has a stainless-steel housing. Offhand I am not sure which is more compatible with salt water. The others are cast iron. This just may get your hot water cleaning system operational.
The burner issue was most likely a safety shutoff, carbon buildup, or fuel regulator issue. What might be a lot more simplistic and reliable is a propane instant water heater used for RVs. They get hot as heck, work very well, and come with the properly sized pump that is easily replaceable. Once more it will take up less space.
Luke my man, this whole month is like that. Dude, be glad that you are healthy and young. Be of good courage my Brother, or"you ain't no crabber". You Sir are blessed beyond comparison. Lyndsey has your back, and so do I.❤😊

Hey, Luke, I worked for a production boatbuilder and we had failures with those Jabsco pumps when mounted horizontally. If you have room try mounting vertically and see how it goes.
Always enjoy your videos!!

You could use a submersible pump and a 5 gallon bucket overboard. You might be dead-heading the pump because of an intake restriction. You could use that method to power wash the pots out on the water. BTW Luke take me crabbing one week. I live in Baltimore and have a season of experience working on a crab boat.
Luke. Keep on keepin on! Just love you!

Great determination and drive! Love the video.
We don't have Blue crab up here in the Pacific North West, but we do have Dungeness, Rock, and Tanner.
They're measured not to the point tip, but at the base of the tip.
Dungeness minimum.. 6 1/4" (female only & hardshell)
Rock.. 5" (either sex & hardshell)
Tanner.. 4 1/2" (same as rock)
Biggest Dungeness that I have pulled up was over 9 inches.
Though I have seen 10+ inches decades ago
Don't forget to go to local auctions for parts and pieces too. I can't tell you how many parts I've collected and shocked by what I use over the decades
You so totally sound like an independent truck driver, like my self, the struggles are the same, incredibly the same. Bro, hang in there, as you always do. You are so creative, and positive. Keep the faith, never accept defeat, and "Party on Garth!'.

Love seeing you and I have so much respect for determination and go get it drive. Praying for you bro
In regards to your water pump issue we do in Alaska. We have a secondary water pump that has a diaphragm in it pulls the seater and pushes it to our system. You could put a secondary water pump that’s belt. Just gotta make some brackets and it will push anywhere to 110 towards 120 psi to your little system
Quick Teflon Tape Tip (TTT) - Wrap the tape the same way as you turn so it doesn't back off and bunch up which can cause leaks.
Probably won’t see this but we run 12v pumps all day for our maple syrup operation. We use a Honda 664240 EU2200i and it’s an amazing little machine. The way I see it you spent the price of that generator in time trying to fix your setup(who hasn’t/wouldnt) in your application I wouldn’t suggest using the 12v dc all day but a 120-12 inverter will work perfectly for this. No more batteries just a super reliable little generator. Keep in mind I’m a land dweller I know marine is more complicated
Wow! You going thru a tuff time. Good luck Luke, we're still watching!
When you mentioned wanting to use engine cooling water? I thought that a ram pump might be the ticket for that purpose. It has head pressure for pushing through the burners coil and it releases back pressure as it pumps
In my boat the water heater has to heat scource options - cooling water and electric heating. When running the engine, the hot cooling water runs through a coil in the water heater like a heat exchanger to warm up the standing water in the water heater. The water in the water heater gets really hot from this system. I would for shure tap into the cooling water circuit and use the hot water from that. But the Diesel engine, exhaust elbow still needs a flow of water to cool down the exhaust. You figure this out...
Great video. I think this might be the best one you've ever done. I really enjoyed it. I hope things get better for you soon.
Luke lad that man to chase the blue crab, surprised there be no green ones 😅
It might be a big cost, but I think you should maybe paint your pots with anti-foulent paint. It would last probably 4 or more before the pots start getting dirty. We used it when we were crabbing in the Delaware Bay. I didn't like dipping pots in it, but dirty pots don't catch crabs.
4 weeks of clean pots.
I use bigger version of the same Beckett oil burner on my 8gpm commercial pressure washing rig, the igniter can be the problem, but 90% of my issues with that burner were lack of battery power or charge. If battery is weak or too small, the igniter wont fire and the pump will keep dumping diesel into the coil and if the igniter decides to fire again, it can burn down your boat. Neard many stories of pressure washing rigs and trucks burning down from that. They make small 4gpm hot water pressure washers. Maybe thats the route u should take
YOU ARE THE MAN BROTHER , I LOVE AND WATCH ALL YOUR VIDEOS , DONT CHANGE A THING AND KEEP THEM COMING..! We appreciate your hard work and content it’s hilarious

Just hanging on a pull-up bar for sets of 30sec to a min is amazing for shoulder rotator cuff issues. I have first had experience w how well it helps!!!
You need a sidescan sounder so you can find/see the pots when people cut them. No more lost pots, only missing if they are stolen
That inline fuse is one of the best setups I've seen
Not sure if it’s been said or not, but you need a continuous duty relay to correctly run that pump to keep it from over heating. Great vid, keep it up!
I love this content please keep going!! You got this!
For inshore lobstering, we used to use a dip tank with some heating coils that we'd connect to the cooling system and use waste engine heat... that or a 55 gal drum with 4 gals of bleach mixed in, hooked to a small on-demand water pump for pleasure boat sinks. We could do about 200 lobster pots with 55gals of water n' bleach.
I AGREE 💯 💯 PERCENT ON THE FUEL CONTAINERS ⛽️
In va we dipped in antifouling paint and at the peak of the summer that will get you 7 or 8 weeks... Then normally carry a pressure washer on the boat and an extra crew and wash away. I've never tried the hot water method... We have even carried tanks of water with chlorine on a boat and dip the pots in that.
Hey I am a mechanic for a pressure washing company and I handle the equipment on the trucks and the truck themselves. Actually honestly I handle everything even apparently counseling the crew of guys. Right down the road from you next to BWI. I’ll try to wander over there this week when you’re at your stand to give you a hand maybe or work out some of your problems. There is an acronym/abbreviation to life and a lot of things.,…. K.I.S.S. /Keep it simple stupid. And I’ve seen you kind of done your best to keep it that way. But you have a huge heating machine on your boat already. But that might be something for a later date to come up with but for now I can give you help with your fuel oil burners/diesel. Show you how to repair those pumps or service them pretty much anything to do with pressure washing equipment, fuel oil, burners and mechanical engines.
I have that same exact card cabinet being used for that same exact purpose. Probably a lot of old card file cabinets out there being filled with parts from back when we used them to store information on little 3x5 cards instead of computers.

a carwash like, pod wash table: you can push them acros a roller table with washer jets fully around them. use a heated power washer to power it.
Keep your head up buddy.Hard work pays off at some point. I just haven’t figured out when that point is. Love your show keep up the good work.
You might want to look into getting some PYI hose clamps. They're not cheap, but they're 100% 316 stainless steel, and non perforated. I use them on my car where T bolt clamps aren't needed.

Luke, a guy that I used to work for used to say” Some days we eat the steak and some days we eat the fat”. You’re gonna have some of those days that turn into weeks. Keep plugging away at it. You’re doing great dude. Much love from NC
To make it easier for the water pump, I would lower the hose outlet down to sea level. Then you get a suctioning/siphon effect to help it out
Good Luck! hope you figure it out 😎✌️
Absolutely inspirational. This should be required viewing for all young Humans!
have you thought about putting a small two foot hollow extension on the back of the boat, move the transom back with it. Hollow completely sealed to give you more buoyancy? That will help so much and keep you skinny water as well. Help with the weight you can handle and more. I would be some fiberglass work for sure but I am certain you can do it.

In the process of still watching but i used to work on hot water pressure washers and with the burner unit, the water pressure is an issue but a thermostat will help as well.
Possibly a Marine Air Conditioner water pump would do the trick. They are magnetic and designed to run a long time at decent pressure. I’m sure you got it figured out by now though. Thanks for showing the struggle as well as success 👍👍
That hose spliter you have on there with the valves is restricting the water flow if you can take it out or get a full port design that doesn't restrict it but love the videos keep up the hard work
Watching this is better than a high priced movie.
Sureflow makes a pump that is adjustable. You could also put a T after the outflow and a proportioning valve to bleed of flow/pressure.
