I think the best setup (which I use) is controlling Logic or Pro Tools (or any DAW) with Maschine while using Maschine in Standalone Mode. This way you have all the freedom of both separate softwares, and when you're ready, you can drag your Maschine performances right into your DAW of choice. Both the audio and midi tracks are completely integrated, yet you're not bogged down with the headache of having to set up Maschine's MIDI mode and all that stuff.
Great video, thanks! The fastest workflow I know is to work in standalone, then drag&drop individual patters in AUDIO from Maschine into logic for arranging and mixing purposes. This solves the problems with simultaneous playback as well as annoying routing, and is a bit quicker than mass export+import. You do lose the MIDI, but on the other hand committing to audio is always safer (ever pulled up an ancient project and noticed you're missing half the plugins?:) Thanks for a great video!
True. There are two easy solutions for that: either solo the sound before exporting (so the exported pattern contains just the solo'd snare, for example), or export the audio ("sounds" instead of "channels", to get individual sounds) - which may indeed be quicker, especially if you have a busy drum kit.
If I have many active pads (say more than 5) I export all the samples through File/Export Audio (make sure you set the output to "Sounds" and not "Groups"). If it's just a few pads, I usually solo the pads individually, consecutively (i.e I solo pad #1, drag&drop, solo pad #2, drag&drop, etc.). Hope this helps!
Thanks for putting this up. Learned a few things. I just started using logic with maschine but I think machines beats are a tighter when it plays the midi instead of Logic.
Yep sussed it - export all sounds so they are in their own stems and can therefor have a channel each in logic - perfect. I find this the easiest way to integrate maschine with logic after trying the other options. Its simple and keeps the workflow at a good pace. Many thanks all
G, I have a question for you... I don't own a Maschine yet (i'm an mpc3000 user) but this device is interesting. I do however use logic. So my question is this... In your first demonstration, you did a drag and drop of midi note into logic from the plug in. After you do that, do you still need the hardware attached to play that particular sequence? Please respond soon.
Hi! nice video Gio! I am a new maschine user and I prefer the second way to work but, when I work in a song with different time signatures I can't make maschine correspond to Logic grid...e.g. in maschine the recording starts in bar 3 and in logic the start is in bar 1 (when it is supposed to be!) Any idea on this? have you worked with different time signatures in a song? (e.g. 4/4 and 5/4). Thank you!
Hey Michael, how do you drag the audio to logic. I.E i sampled a song onto the 16 pads on maschine, and each pad is a different loop of the song, but i can't figure out how to drag each audio loop onto a separate track on logic. I've done it once a long while ago and i forgot how.
Also, thanks a lot from me for sharing the knoweldge! The 2nd type is my way to go. Besides I have one question: Is it possible to use different groups of the Maschine and let them correspond with logic? As if maybe Track one in Logic corresponds with group A in Maschine - Drumkit, Track two in Logic corresponds with group B in Maschine - Synth e.g. As I see it i have to open another instance of maschine to handle that. Do you have an idea on that?
After you drag and droped your pattern from maschine to logic, you can simply move to another scene in maschine sequenzer. Than Maschine dont double your files but you havent to delete the pattern in maschine if you want to hold it.
The only thing with drag and dropping patterns into logic is that you cant then mix down individual sounds like kick drum, snare etc instead u can only mixdown the drums as a group - thats what i found annoying as in most cases its best to mix individual drum sounds to get that better final mix. Im new to maschine and logic and this is what im gathering from my research so far.
You know the drag and drop method can you separate say the intro, verse and chorus into different tracks or do they all (intro, verse, chorus) have to be in the same track on logic? Its just its easier arranging wise for them to be in separate tracks on logic.
Awsome video man I have the same setup u know what would be a awsome video is how to import a song to sample into logic and chop it to 4-8 bars and put into maschine to sample I cant figure it out
thanks that really helped alot i prefer your first way aswell, i do have one question though ive done everything like you said but then i wen to group B with new sounds n froze lol do i just repeat the process or is there an easier way to do things
Fantastic tutorial! Question: does anyone know how to apply effects created in Maschine on the imported patterns once they're in Logic? Example: In Maschine, I used an ambient sound from Prism which is set to Pad 1 in Group A. I then added a HP Filter and an Ice effect onto this sound. Now I've imported this Prism ambient sound as MIDI into Logic's arranger as shown in this tutorial. I now want to arrange the 2 effects created/edited in Maschine in Logic's so that they come in half way through the song and then fade out. HOW?!!??!
Is it possible to arrange your tracks in a daw the way they do in big studios meaning muting and soloing sounds while vocals are being recorded???I hope this doesnt sound stupid but i was just wondering because when you arrange your track in maschine its not like you know where a drop or a sound should be muted or soloed sounds best, let me know if im bugging thanks in advance
So do you absolutely HAVE to have Maschine running as a plug-in in Logic for in order to transfer midi from Maschine to Logic? Can you transfer midi from Maschine to Logic in standalone mode? If so, how exactly do you go about that? I've tried transferring midi as a plug in and the midi that does play in Logic after being transferred from Machine doesn't match the sounds that i have in Maschine. I've also tried transferring midi in standalone mode and I get one track that says "No Output" and another random instrument that is not present in the pattern i dragged over from Maschine and both do not play sound. Any help would be appreciated before i have a brain aneurism.
hey thanks for the video, but i have a question .... how do i use the automation in logic?... i have the midi in logic but i have a filter that wan to automate in logic how do i do that? thanks
Can you help, firstly you video's are very helpful. Q: when i go into record mode on Mashine slaved to logic 9 the sound changes in fact it will go from c3 to c1 so it does not record or play the same as when not in record function.
Say I have 3 different instruments on 3 different groups and I want to bring them all in as separate midi tracks in logic from maschine, how would I go about doing that? So that I can arrange and change them up as the track progresses.
How can i do to put each sound from Maschine into a midi channel? To record every thing from maschine on a midi channel and make good mix Thanks for your videos!
Dude... seriously to figure those stuffs out made me extremely pissed off.. Thanks for your video so much so I can get access to it easier. But one more big problem I can't solve is that whenever I hit record button on my Macbook from logic pro, it keeps playing the sample inside the maschine mikro.. I cant record any of the sound from maschine. What did I do wrong?? Thanks a lot!
Another question why am i not getting the sound I hear from my machine in logic? The kicks i hear in logic are different from what i hear in my maschine
I export my sound data in by exporting the sound from Maschine. The issue i have is that when it transfers into logic, it is not at its correct length and all out of time and it doesnt loop properly when you try and cut it down and loop it. Is there a way around this??
I got to find out how you have each sound from MASCHINE playing on its own track in logic. What vid is that? I got eveything down but that, please help> Thanks
alright say you wanna record a chopped sample in maschine and you want to add drums when i open maschine as a plug in record drums then make a new track and try to add drums my samples are takin away and my drums are in its place how can i do this with drag and drop
So I used the first method. And I got it to work and I properly separated all the pads to different auxs. When I play it back in logic I have all my sounds but I don't have all of my midi. Only some of the midi shows even though all of it plays back.. I'm not sure really how to explain it any better but I was hoping for a solution?
This is probably an easy fix, but I can't figure out how to get existing projects that ive made in maschine to open with the plug in version. You know when you select it as a stereo or whatever, then theres a clean slate in maschine that opens up and you have to re-assign sounds to the pads. What if I want to use a pre existing beat Ive already made, so that the plugin version loads those, does anyone know?
Erm please marry me.. You saved my life!!! I was getting so frustrated until I found this video! It's exactly what I wanted to learn and you describe it so well too. Thanks mate x
many times pulled up an old project and half the audio is not there... i think everybody works differently. i tried working in standalone then opened up the same maschine project inside ableton live. All the settings were different and all the synth sounds and effects had changed. It sounded terrible. I never use standalone anymore. Once u set up maschine inside a DAW a couple of times its like second nature and really fast + maschine is excellent controller & wasted if not used as such.
Great tutorial. I wish the software was a little more integrated though. Maschine's software is a joke, and resembles Fruity Loops which that I cant stand. Oh well, that's what I get for not using an actual MPC. Beats doing MPC file dumps any day though.
No I understand it, but that's my preference. But for you to say nothing beats it sounds very subjective to me. I'd rather use something much more versatile i.e. recording vocals, mixing, mastering. FL just doesn't deliver for me. I'm sorry but I'm writing this from personal experience. Thank you for you input though.
Really helpful summary. I've used all 3, but then I always forget how I did stuff, so you're bookmarked! Cheers.
this is the most helpful video so far on this topic. the first integration works the best for me. Thank you for sharing man.

Thanks so much bro! Been searching for a while on how to do this
Dude pretty good video, it should have way more views, I actually prefer the first integration... So I will thumbs up!!!
Thank you so much man. It would have taken me forever to figure all this out.

Unfortunately none of the 3 methods are satisfying. Is there a way to trigger the patters in maschine in logic?
very very very helpful

yup, and NI is pretty great about free updates with added features as well
appreciate the vids man helped out alot

when you where recording the piano on logic where u using a midi keyboard or the machine?
so on the second example after it all corresponds with the melody in logic how do you make the project into one? do you drag and drop or what?

Why not just do your beats directly in Logic, but using EXS24, or Battery. Does the drums pop better using Maschine?
hey thanks for the video, but i have a question .... how do i use the automation in logic?... i have the midi in logic but i have a filter that wan to automate in logic how do i do that? thanks

is there a way u can use the logic sound library in the maschine software??
how do you record the maschine into logic like stay positve does in his fact tv against the clock

Does maschine software plug in come with the hardware?

My Logic Bar length is not working and repeats too soon, can you help?
What about for melodies in maschine. When I try to drag a melody into logic, it put it's all in one key.

I'm want to use te drag-and-drop but I can't find it on the controller, it doesn't say it as an option.. I'm using mk2. What to do?
I use M as plug in Reaper, very quick to arrange this way
i don't have the patter drag mode option?
Gio Ramirez do you set up komplete control in logic
Thank you.
thanks giovanni
