THANK you for mentioning dragging to the top. This problem has been wrecking my brain for months now. Who knew it would be as simple as making sure you drag MIDI to the top to avoid having a billion MIDI instruments created. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I've watched several tutorials regarding routing with DAWs and you're the first person to point out that you can go to keyboard mode to drag out audio of individual sounds! Thank you! That info is gold!
Wow, my mind is blown... I would have never figured that out on my own, no way. Thank you ADSR, you are a godsend! I was beginning to put logic on the back burner because I didn’t have this info at the time and maschine being easier to be creating in minutes, yet I hated the seeming lack of integration between the two. Finally! I’m looking forward to a long and fun creating sesh this weekend... this has stumped me for months lol you’re the real MVPs!
This video answered all my prayers...all the last videos only explained the workflow in bringing an entire group into Logic. I like to edit each sound on its own track in case I get an idea during the process so this definitely makes things a lot more easier. Much appreciation 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
this is the most comprehensive video i've seen on this. that being said. maschine and logic together is such a convoluted thing. it takes me so far out of the creative process, i find myself just using battery so much more. i can work so much quicker that way.
+Dave Pelletier I hear what you're saying there, this is why sometimes I just commit the tracks to audio and drag them over to the Logic main window. Sometimes this helps me move forwards in a project too, committing stuff to audio means you're not endlessly tweaking it.
Dude you saved me from so much frustration! :) Thanks for this video and the great tutorial. So many videos i have watched focused on just the routing but not on how to export individual parts as MIDI into the DAW and you did it. Thank you :) Its important to export individually because when it comes time for mixing, sound engineer needs to hear individual parts.
Thank you for this helpful video about routing the audio and the midi. It seems there is no problem with the Maschine sounds which are assigned to different tracks in the software. However, what I could not figure out from different videos is that how it is possible to do the same thing with a 3rd party drum vst like Modo Drum for example, and spread across the pads and route them like here and finally end up with midi notes of different tracks inside Logic? I could not find an answer for that. I would like to use my Maschine in Logic, but as I say, sometimes with a 3rd party drum vst and end up like in here; so that I can have complete control over the midi notes in Logic, not just wave files. Thank you!
For anyone watching this 6 years later, I think it’s more useful to create your idea solely within Maschine plugin inside Logic, that way you can still mix everything on your MK3 (if you have one) and take advantage of Note Repeat, Keyboard Mode, Chord Mode, Perform FX, Automation, and Lock States and then record your vocals or whatever else outside of the Maschine Plugin Track on its own Audio Track. Then you can stem out the individual channels in Maschine using the Audio Drag feature. Or use the MIDI drag feature while in Keyboard Mode for each sound and recreate the individual tracks with same plugins placed inside your project. Just what I’ve found best.. even now. Routing to separate channels makes you lose ability to use pads unless you put MK3 in MIDI Mode.
Hey guys, thank you so much for this video. I was trying to figure out how to set everything up like this and I was going mad, this video cleared up all my doubts! Keep up the good work, we appreciate it :)
Great video man! You saved me tons of time by showing how to instantly export the WAVs and drag into Logic. Before this I was soloing the each channel and exporting (Command-E) one-by-one...it was tedious and slow. Thank you loads!
Amazing tutorial going to make me save lot of time but I don’t have the + on the export button so I can’t drag anything directly to logic 😅😅 if someone can help on that 🙌🏻
great video! had to watch several times to get it all set up but I think I'll use this quite a bit since i really like to use maschine for all my drums. Thanks!!
Thanks for this video man. Super helpful. The fact that you have to load each midi file from the piano roll when you have less than 16 channels is a bust... I've been scratching my head as to why, and you completely solved the issue with your work around. Still sucks, but at least there is a solution. THANK YOU!
Thanks. Good to have an up to date video on this. One advantage I have found of using a second instance of Maschine, is that it will use a different CPU core. So, spreading the load. So, I have drums on one, and instruments on the other. Although I have recently just taken to just dropping in the audio to save CPU.
Is it possible to record from the studio into logic from the multi platform? I know it’s possible in stereo format. I’ve been stuck with this issue for quite sometime. It would make my workflow all the better if I can figure out how to do this. Thanks!
I love Maschine but it is a nightmare to work with inside of a host. If they had an option so that when we set everything up as a template inside our host DAW, we could simply click a button inside of machine that tells it not to change the current routing settings when we change groups. Something like "Keep current routing on group change"
+Trent Hogan Couldn't agree more, if you could keep those Group routing and output settings when previewing new groups you could simply save this workflow as a template and it'd load seamlessly for new projects.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make it. One question I have... Lets say you have a few scene's in MS, and you've routed the audio to the aux channels in LPX. You want to jam on MS and multi-track this recording. How do you record on the aux tracks?
+Pat Brady We're gonna do a video on recording directly into Logic using Maschine pads, so watch this space. Essentially you need to have Mashcine in MIDI mode to do this.
Thanks for the info. Do you have a video explaining how to record midi from the Maschine in Logic main window?? I have put it into midi control mode and all it does is record velocity and not the notes. It has been rather frustrating. Thanks!!
Thanks for the tutorial. I wish there was a way to simply press record on Logic while Maschine is opened as a plugin and record Midi right into Logic while it triggers the maschine library. Why isn't this possible? It's really screwing my workflow.
There is a way! You need to put Maschine into MIDI mode for Logic to receive MIDI data from it: www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/maschine-into-logic-x-but-how.225814/
Oh my. Thanks! I was super frustrated when dragging a midi pattern to Logic, Logic would open a new track for every sound in the group along with loading a default sound for each track. Group MIDI batch setup - MIDI notes! Yes! Thanks.
Great video! HUGE thanks! This is a long shot, but has anyone figured out how to turn off that "Also Import Tempo?" automatic dialog box that comes up? This is a very long shot, but has anyone figured out a way to save a template and keep the MIDI routing settings even when you change groups in maschine? That would be amazing!
This video was extremely helpful in learning how to multitrack with Maschine. However, it didn't seem to cover live recording with Maschine. I would add an addendum about assigning inputs, outputs, and busses. You may have covered it in a different video, but I probably haven't seen that one yet.
+thefluxcapacitor1 We didn't cover anything on live recording with Mashcine in this video as it was specifically about a workflow we created for using Logic & Maschine. In fact this video was an addendum to a video we did previously on the same subject, we felt we needed to update the video with additional info as Maschine made some changes to certain behaviours as of v2.2. Also, this video is over 20 minutes long, which is already long enough I think for viewers to stay engaged and digest the content. We do have many other Maschine videos however, so have a dig around some of the stuff on our channel or head over to our www.adsrcourses.com site, where we have lots more specific course content for Maschine: www.adsrcourses.com/categories/maschine-playing-live-beats/3315/media
I have Logic exactly set up as you did in the last section. Now my question is how to apply side chain compression from the kick to the low Tom for example? I don’t see the seperate channels in my compressor?
man nice i just talk about it in my Facebook about couple of days ago about the HOST option, i see your tutorial before this one like the last work flow, what i did found after you do last work flow if you press record option in machine and not on logic pro x the midi notes will record back into maschine but great work flow. i use maschine mk2 also with a roland fa-06 i can trigger midi notes no problem even that i still will get a complete keyboard, i but i use all this with a allen a heath qu-24 a motu express xt haven't test it yet the motu soon i will no need to use it with the roland since the roland have USB but well i having tons of fun watching all this great tutorials
Thank you! Finally I got it ), great tutorial! Still too many moves, but it's not your fault ;) Is there any way to make maschine drum kits be triggered by GM mapped midi patterns, or by playing on keyboard like on other drums? Thanks!
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! Quick question I hope you or anyone else can help me out with. After following the directions to have my audio routed from machine into individual channels in Logic and dragging my patterns out of Maschine into Logic, ALL of my midi patterns are on separate tracks but all the notes are triggering as only one instrument. For example, my piano, bass, kick and snare are all on separate tracks, but all the midi notes trigger as Piano notes. Is there any solution to this? Thanks so much to anyone who can help me out
Thank you ADSR and Jonathan. Can you do a video on arranging Maschine scenes with logic X(an elaborate one)? I have been facing many problems while following this approach where few sounds are already arranged inside logic. Thank you
+Navin Iyer Would it not be easier to export your patterns to Logic and use Logics arranger? You can automate Maschine parameters in Logic too, which makes life easier.
When dragging the Audio do you have to change the sounds levels on the mixer in maschine on the sound before dragging into logic or do you set them all at same level and adjust in logic?
This way worked out great. But one of my tracks is not reading the midi i checked and made sure all of the output and inputs were right. The other tracks work fine but when i take it to an empty scene and play that one track on solo nothing plays for it. Please help! Thank you
Hey there - thanks for this! quick question - in all of these cases - whether it's copying audio or routing externally, if you have fx loaded in machine, will they copy over too?
Hello I hope you can help? I am applying the workflow suggested in this video to an existing project. When I add multi channels by pressing the + button the Maschine input strip is called 1 and the aux channels name themselves aux 2, aux 3, aux 4 etc (not aux 1, aux 2 etc) this then confuses the midi mapping process.can you advise why this happening? Thanks
Hello. Please tell me if it is possible to play the sounds of Logic synthesizers on the controller, do not use the Machine program? Only the controller.Cheers.Kosta
Yes! I think most producers will agree working with audio is just fine! I think the answer is obvious but I'm not sure if when you transfer the audio as he does in this video and rejects importing the tempo would this erase the groove/quantization you used in the maschine?
Can you rewire with maschine? For keys and general recording I use logicX, but sampling and creative loop making I use maschine mk2. I would like to run both logic and maschine, but with maschine syncing to logic (and not as a plugin) hope that makes sense 🙂
Is there a way we can record maschine midi directly into logic? Is it possible to use the record button on the maschine to start recording, and keep the note repeat capabilities?
Great stuff! I have this question (I have done this with Ableton Live before): Using Maschine in Logic as a plugin, I want to send midi notes from maschine to an external synth so I can then record the Audio back into Logic. Is that possible? thanks!
If Maschine is your primary MIDI controller then it will trigger your MIDI instruments - just put your Maschine into MIDI mode. I'm assuming this is how you did it in Ableton?
Not as a midi controller. I use the patterns and scenes that I create on Maschine to trigger external hardware synths. What I've been doing is Routing Midi clock from Logic to Maschine Stand alone, then making a channel in machine to trigger my external synths and then recording the audio of the external synths back into Logic. I was was wondering if you might know a work around for this when you use Maschine as a Plugin inside Logic X. Thanks,
I have a slight issue i get everything in the video except if i recorded 2 variations of a pattern on maschine, and want pattern 1 to play for 16 bars and then pattern 2 to play for 8 bars (the hook) and then back to pattern 1 seeing as both patters are 4 bars long originally do i need to loop pattern 1 to 16 bars on logic using the loop function? and then loop the second patter for 8 bars ?
to your last comment - i think you can load a kit without routing but with pattern into your template with the multi-routing for logic. that might work. so you can load patterns and not routing for example
I can't see any "active" in group->input, i can't also see the midi section below midi but only routings. It must be just a setting but i can't find it if you can help me guys. thanks
glad someone brought this up. I have this problem too. when i go to "Input", there is one tab that says "Key Mode" with 3 settings None, Drumkit, and Manual
How come Logic won't record like this even though it can clearly pass through the audio. I want to use this exact setup but have logic record the sounds as I play them in Logic but it doesn't record it.
Quick question about using swing in maschine, I love the global swing feature in maschine and find once I'm commiting to audio from maschine or even adding the midi everything else that's added from logic is not set at the same swing? I usually just play it by ear and use the complicated logic swing settings per channel but still
I struggled with this (a lot!) initially, as I'm not keen on the Logic swing at all. Thankfully the Freemasons answered my prayers with this awesome tutorial on using Maschine (and the classic MPC) swings in both Logic & Live: th-cam.com/video/R8sm4xWqNHQ/w-d-xo.html
Do you have a video on how to use maschine as a synth in logic? I want to be record a synth line into logic in realtime using maschine. I don't want to record into maschine and export it in.
You could export it all as 1 midi pattern then use Logics "Separate by note pitch" it would split it to a bunch of unused tracks but then yo you could drag them down onto the multi output tracks
if you set up your midi like you have in the end with your group midi settings (host and midi channels) before the beat has been made could your maschine work as a midi controller and you can hit record and it will read the midi notes as you play the beat physically on your maschine and translate into logic on their separate channels? also is there a way to apply group midi settings to all of maschine to avoid that reset of group midi settings?
You need to put Maschine into MIDI mode to record directly into Logic. Logic will read the notes but not tranlstae them to separate channels. also is there a way to apply group midi settings to all of maschine to avoid that reset of group midi settings? - I've not found out a way to do this, as you have to apply your MIDI settings at Sound level, new group settings will always override these.
@17:00 or just after when you move the 8 drum elements into logic and it creates all the new instruments. Is there a reason you didn't just select the 8 midi regions you needed that it created and moved those into your 8 aux's and then just delete the extra 8 regions and all the extra instruments?
I have a question. I am also using a Juno 106 but can't get it to run into Logic. I am using an apollo twin thunderbolt interface. I also use Maschine. I've tried a midi to USB extension which didn't work and also a patch/instrument cable into the front of my interface through its instrument port. It showed notes playing but is not playing through my monitors. How can I run this synth into Logic? Please help.
Hey, the way I set up my Roland SH101 is to create an External MIDI instrument, select the Output to Arturia Beatstep (which is what I use to trigger the Roland), and then set up a separate audio channel using the input from my interface for the audio from the synth. The audio track needs to have Input Monitoring on and Record enabled. Does the Juno 106 show up in Logic as a MIDI output when plugged in via USB?
Thank you very much for the quick response, I will try this technique later on today. Nothing shows up or triggers when I plug the MIDI to USB cable into my computer. Also, do I need another midi device to trigger the synth just like your Arturia Beatstep?
No I had a look and the Juno 106 has MIDI. The SH101 has no MIDI, so you need something like the Beatstep that has MIDI CV & Gate to trigger it in your DAW. However, whenever I've plugged in a USB MIDI controller - Maschine, Beatstep, MIDI keyboard, etc, Logic always reads it automatically so it shows up as a MIDI output. Which makes me think this is where the problem lies for you, getting Logic read the Juno ... Have you looked on forums? There may be something on Gearslutz about this.
how do i do this with a beat i have made not one of machines template beats ? i've tried and it just plays one note of a piano sound which i didn't use in my original beat that i made in maschine
+OhGod2Trill I'm not sure what your question is? You're exporting your pattern from Maschine to Logic, so if you have another pattern in Maschine you can drag over the MIDI for that also.
Seems like a good vid, wish the process wasn’t so damned convoluted! I’ll give a try later. Been pushing off getting a DAW but I think it’s time. Reaching the limitations of built in software. And I can’t stomach Ableton price tag as I’m not currently a full time student. So Logic is the obvious choice. But man, what a nightmare. Thanks for putting this out there
Hey so the only issue I have is in Maschine when I go to the mixer window all of my drum instruments are listed under one track so I do not have the option of inputting each drum instrument to a different auxiliary track. Any idea how to undo this???
Your sounds in Maschine will automatically be on separate channels, though they will by default be routed through a group, which then routes to the master output of Maschine. Make sure you're not viewing Group level.
Hi guys! I do not know if anyone can answer me but how do you do to put logix pro "slave" and mashcine mk3 "master"? MMC does not work from mk3 Thank you!
hello great video Im using just the software with logic x and im finding when i drag midi into logic sometimes the midi patter appears but it has a extra 1 bar on the end with no midi in what i have to cut with the scissor tool any ideas on this
Are you sure your MIDI note doesn't overlap slightly? If you have, for example, an 8 bar MIDI pattern but the last note extends into bar 9 even just a tiny bit, it'll create an extra & empty bar at the end when you export.
THANK you for mentioning dragging to the top. This problem has been wrecking my brain for months now. Who knew it would be as simple as making sure you drag MIDI to the top to avoid having a billion MIDI instruments created.

Haven't been able to find a solid video on maschine 2.0 - logic pro x workflow until now. Ive had Maschine 2.0 since early 2017. Thank you so much!!!

Dude you saved me from so much frustration! :) Thanks for this video and the great tutorial. So many videos i have watched focused on just the routing but not on how to export individual parts as MIDI into the DAW and you did it. Thank you :)
Its important to export individually because when it comes time for mixing, sound engineer needs to hear individual parts.
This is the best Maschine + Logic tutorial I’ve seen. Thanks.

very very helpful. looking forward to revisiting my maschine and logic again! Thanks for posting!!
Took me hours to get it but damn man was worth the journey, thank you very much 😄
Have you gotten it to work with multiple patterns?
Is it possible to record from the studio into logic from the multi platform? I know it’s possible in stereo format. I’ve been stuck with this issue for quite sometime. It would make my workflow all the better if I can figure out how to do this. Thanks!
Please do another one as some of the screen selections have changed in Maschine.
Thank you very much for uploading the workflow. How can you RECORD directly into logic pro x using the Maschine studio pads. Much appreciated
Hey man quick question, first of all thank you for this video! Very helpful. I love the sound of KICK ABERLOUR 1. Where can I get that sound?
I love Maschine but it is a nightmare to work with inside of a host. If they had an option so that when we set everything up as a template inside our host DAW, we could simply click a button inside of machine that tells it not to change the current routing settings when we change groups. Something like "Keep current routing on group change"
+Trent Hogan Couldn't agree more, if you could keep those Group routing and output settings when previewing new groups you could simply save this workflow as a template and it'd load seamlessly for new projects.
Is there at least a way to audition different kits without having to freshly setup the 16 External audio outs each time ?
Thanks for putting together this really helpful tutorial 👍!

Hey there - thanks for this! quick question - in all of these cases - whether it's copying audio or routing externally, if you have fx loaded in machine, will they copy over too?
Provided you have the FX loaded at Sound level, then yes they will be part of the sound. Anything applied at Group or Master level will be bypassed.
appreciate that - yeah i sort of discovered that myslef through trial and error. Thanks again

Can you rewire with maschine? For keys and general recording I use logicX, but sampling and creative loop making I use maschine mk2. I would like to run both logic and maschine, but with maschine syncing to logic (and not as a plugin) hope that makes sense 🙂
Thank you so much!!! I needed this!
Is there a way we can record maschine midi directly into logic? Is it possible to use the record button on the maschine to start recording, and keep the note repeat capabilities?
8:10 sending midi note to logic from the seems to be the best way to work. You can always separate by midi notes in logic.
Thanks,
What If you have effects and plugins on the maschine group. Will they stay when you drag?
Can you jam in Maschine and record the midi notes in Logic while you play?
Great video - really helpful and informative 😊
It must be just a setting but i can't find it if you can help me guys. thanks
Louis Cheneval ever get an answer? I’m having the same issue
@@bryanlubeley3834 Did you ever get an answer?
glad someone brought this up. I have this problem too. when i go to "Input", there is one tab that says "Key Mode" with 3 settings None, Drumkit, and Manual
@@murphychops2586 same here.
13:26 This happens even if i drag it to the very top. This is so annoying! Can you help?
11:10 Individual Midi Tracks
How come Logic won't record like this even though it can clearly pass through the audio. I want to use this exact setup but have logic record the sounds as I play them in Logic but it doesn't record it.
Beautiful tutorial.
Would you mind giving us a download link to the template you made?
Sure:

This also includes the groove tracks for Maschine & MPC swings.
Are you able to do this with the stand alone version?
Quick question about using swing in maschine, I love the global swing feature in maschine and find once I'm commiting to audio from maschine or even adding the midi everything else that's added from logic is not set at the same swing? I usually just play it by ear and use the complicated logic swing settings per channel but still
I struggled with this (a lot!) initially, as I'm not keen on the Logic swing at all. Thankfully the Freemasons answered my prayers with this awesome tutorial on using Maschine (and the classic MPC) swings in both Logic & Live:

+ADSR Music Production Tutorials wow you guys never fail to deliver! Many thanks for your timely response. 😀
Do you have a video on how to use maschine as a synth in logic? I want to be record a synth line into logic in realtime using maschine. I don't want to record into maschine and export it in.
Is it possible to get the outputs in mono into logic? Used to have my Kicks in Mono...
Life Saver. Thank you very much
You could export it all as 1 midi pattern then use Logics "Separate by note pitch" it would split it to a bunch of unused tracks but then yo you could drag them down onto the multi output tracks
Great Tutorial!
Great video and very useful although everything looked to have worked I'm not getting any sound???? Can anyone help?
if you set up your midi like you have in the end with your group midi settings (host and midi channels) before the beat has been made could your maschine work as a midi controller and you can hit record and it will read the midi notes as you play the beat physically on your maschine and translate into logic on their separate channels? also is there a way to apply group midi settings to all of maschine to avoid that reset of group midi settings?
You need to put Maschine into MIDI mode to record directly into Logic. Logic will read the notes but not tranlstae them to separate channels.
also is there a way to apply group midi settings to all of maschine to avoid that reset of group midi settings? - I've not found out a way to do this, as you have to apply your MIDI settings at Sound level, new group settings will always override these.
Thanks!
is there an update to this video for the latest version of mashine. I cant get my midi to drag over the way it does in the video
Great tutorial, very helpful!
When I drag the audio into Logic it imports it louder than it was in Maschine and the audio waves clip. Why is this happening!!!! so frustrating
@17:00 or just after when you move the 8 drum elements into logic and it creates all the new instruments. Is there a reason you didn't just select the 8 midi regions you needed that it created and moved those into your 8 aux's and then just delete the extra 8 regions and all the extra instruments?
lol i was thinking the same exact thing, why not just move them up
Hi man, please tell me, how did you unselect instruments??
Ok, need second time klick "cmd + A", information for newbee
Thanks a lot for this great tut man the best on this topic !
Can this be done with mpc studio?
awesome, many thanks for this update. Really helpful.
how do i do this with a beat i have made not one of machines template beats ? i've tried and it just plays one note of a piano sound which i didn't use in my original beat that i made in maschine
How do you get this to work with more than one pattern? I can't seem to get it right. Do you have to open a separate inst track for each pattern?
+OhGod2Trill I'm not sure what your question is? You're exporting your pattern from Maschine to Logic, so if you have another pattern in Maschine you can drag over the MIDI for that also.
Thank you for making this video!
Thanks for putting this out there
Can you actually mix a track and finish it in Maschine? Why is it not a proper DAW?
Hey so the only issue I have is in Maschine when I go to the mixer window all of my drum instruments are listed under one track so I do not have the option of inputting each drum instrument to a different auxiliary track. Any idea how to undo this???
Maschine is under multi-output in Logic. I don't know how to have each drum instrument on a different track in the group.
Your sounds in Maschine will automatically be on separate channels, though they will by default be routed through a group, which then routes to the master output of Maschine. Make sure you're not viewing Group level.
can i also import the effect setting from machine to logic if so how?
Hi guys! I do not know if anyone can answer me but how do you do to put logix pro "slave" and mashcine mk3 "master"? MMC does not work from mk3
Thank you!
How do I get machine 2, I am only able to get machine one
hello great video Im using just the software with logic x and im finding when i drag midi into logic sometimes the midi patter appears but it has a extra 1 bar on the end with no midi in what i have to cut with the scissor tool any ideas on this
Are you sure your MIDI note doesn't overlap slightly? If you have, for example, an 8 bar MIDI pattern but the last note extends into bar 9 even just a tiny bit, it'll create an extra & empty bar at the end when you export.
Is there not a way to record midi data from Machine straight into Logic, manipulate it and play it back to Machine similar to a midi keyboard?
No. This is the issue everyone is complaining about.
