When Miku first dreamed up the band, she did so with herself as lead vocalist - it was really to be "her" band. When she came to realize that her voice wasn't powerful enough for the type of music she wanted to play, with great grace and humility she took a step back and hired Saiki.
She gets a song to sing lead on every album, and she is featured around their mid-show MC along with other instrumental pieces to give an extended break to Saiki's instrument. It's a beautiful thing

I wouldn't exactly say Miku's voice isn't powerful enough or thin, it's more so that there's a brightness to it that didn't lend itself to the sound that they wanted to explore/create.
Saiki is a belty Power Alto with extended range, while Miku's voice has more Top and Low End than Saiki. Their voices compliment each other which creates a much fuller sound.
She has a great voice, Rock in Me is one of my favourite songs, But Saiki is another level add in that over the last three albums they've been developing the harmony between the two of them.
her Guitar skills are now good enough so she gets solo's she's a freak of nature.

You are not the only person brought to tears during Akane's joy during her drum solo. Did you also notice Miku and Kanami pumping their fists, clapping and cheering for Akane during her drum solo. How many other bands have you seen other bands just enjoying each other on stage. They actually look like they really like and love each other and their fans. They also look like they are actually having more fun than their fans (if that is even possible). Great reaction my friend.
Yeah I teared up because I was super happy!! I guess I'm a joy softy at heart. I did notice them cheering them on and you are right, you do not see that. That it what I was referring to when I said they collaborate well, jut had trouble finding the words! Thank so much

"Spoilt for choice" is a phrase that's often overused but when it comes to BAND-MAID songs it describes their awesome music perfectly :)

As noted in the comments, Miku is really responsible for this whole thing. Created the band, writes about 98% of the lyrics, can sing both higher AND lower than Saiki, tirelessly promotes the band, and on top of all that, she's the stage boss (look for the upraised fist signalling the song conclusion, although not seen well here). She is a force and there would be no Band-Maid without her.

@@DaneBramageROCKS There's a fairly long interview from the "Mook" (i.e. between a magazine and a book) called "MASSIVE" (this issue also includes Dir En Grey if you like old school heavy) where Miku talks about her background. I love all 5 Maids equally, but I do have a bias towards Miku, knowing her back story - plus rhythm guitar is always overlooked and she writes lyrics on a par with Elvis Costello while making puns *between* languages and comes up with amazing vocal harmonies and her "stunt vocals. " They'te all amazing in their own right, but Kobato is super- inspirational for me.
@@stevehall5128 The more I hear about her, the more I understand and I agree. She is the foundation of the band and should be the one everyone is looking at. Regardless, they all feed well off each other and enjoy each others presence on stage and that what makes them great live.
All hail the Mighty Miku! We owe it all to her determination, drive and dedication to World Domination. It ain't just words. Miku was in a national Poker tournament in Japan. She came in second. And she was pissed off. I would be thrilled. That's the difference between. Miku and the average pidgeon.

I just saw them last night in Nashville. Akane is like that for 20 songs. No idea how she can play 200+ BPM songs and make it look like the easiest and most fun thing in the world, song after song.
Right? She keeps a rythm and realizes she does not have to smash each drum head hard. Those wear you out but she can hold a smooth strong beat for days!
I was at the Nashville concert as well. I'm 63 years old and have seen the "Best of the Best" multiple times over the years. I have to honestly say that Band-Maid was the BEST concert I've EVER been to, hands down! Absolutely STELLAR musicians and SO much fun! ❤

OK a couple of things first when kanami was crouching down beside miku was in a previous concert and they did this song miku forgot some lyrics so kanami was there for support also second when misa and a few others were crowded around akane they were playing a game making faces to get the others to goof up its a running joke and what else would you expect from the living legends known as band maid
Ohhhhh, that's awesome. I knew about the drum part of that but cool about the lyrics. They are super fun regardless.
Miku actually wrote the lyrics, which must have made her screw-up somewhat embarrassing! Kanami is indulging in a bit of mild trolling here (she sometimes exhibits a slightly malicious sense of humour, as evidenced by the infamous pocky incident). 😅

If you think the sound is good at Shibuya Line Cube check out 'Real Existence' LIVE next. It's from an earlier concert before they were concerned about putting out room mics to get the crowd response. That's all well and good. And it's easier to tell it's really them playing, but the ambience makes the low end very wild and wooly.

Thank You. Bias is accepted but I do not put on a show or a cover, I express how I genuinely feel and I can not hide the goosebumps and excitement. I get why people love BM so much
Yeah, finding a band with this much genuine positive energy is an impossible challenge. Also love that unlike many a talent, Akane keeps the beat perfectly clear the entire way through. Too many drummers would try to the hardest thing they could come up with and go on a tangent that loses the vibe of the song. Never once does this solo ever feel like it’s not part of the song.
That is why I appreciate her drumming. Is crisp, it times perfectly, and her presence is apparent. She does not need to get impossible or technical, se has perfected her art.
Thanks Dane. BAND-MAID astounds me even after many multiple listens. Their sense of rhythm and melody is perfect for me. Whether fast or slow or high or low their music hits me like no other Rock band in the past 40+ years. You just won't be disappointed with their Awesomeness. Peace. 1.25

I got to see them on May 19 in Atlanta. It was one of the best shows I have seen. I believe the ladies of Japan rock and metal scene are leading the way into the future. When Miku is singing her solo when she is looking at Kanami it was because Miku messed up the night before and they are always picking at each other to get reactions. They are amazing an so humble.

If you listen closely, Akane is still playing those rhythms of her solo all through the bridge & transition, right up to where Kanami is up on the dais starting her guitar solo proper. She is such a musical drummer.
The off beat 'hi hat' work, is what makes you really feel the fun beat of the drums during some sections. Sort of akin to the old disco beats of the 70's & early 80's.
Yeah she is. I noticed her continuation but it was awesome to see it all go dark and highlight her. They are so fun to watch.
MISA was enjoying herself, and playing what should be considered as a LEAD Bass line. While Miku and Kanami took over the rhythm part. My daughter who is a music teacher has said that MISA's playing throughout this song is a lead part. I don't know that much about music theory and that stuff, I just know MISA OWNS this song.

Nowadays I usually watch BM videos via reactors such as yourself. It's so much fun watching a reactor like yourself who is newly discovering BM. The expression on your face caused by the joy they bring never grows old. IMHO they're a super group. Brilliant musicians and singers combined with passion and dedication to their fans leads me to this conclusion. So many songs to choose from. One you may consider is From Now On which is an instrumental MV from this year. A progressive rock masterpiece. Enjoy your journey down the Pidgeon hole

Akane rarely does solo's so this is a special moment captured on film. There are a couple of drum cam vids around but that's it. Her best work is done within the songs. She is also one of the biggest jokers on stage- like the pulling faces at each other in the video- yes, that's what they are doing. The only reason Kanami sat next to Miku when she had her vocal solo, was to put her off.
Yeah, that is why it was heavily suggested. I agree though, she as at her best during the songs. I love these little antics they have for each other, makes it special!

Not sure if you were aware, but during their shows, the other members - even Saiki - try to make Akane laugh by making faces at her. It's a fun thing to watch! And Akane never misses a beat, even she's laughing or making faces back at them! It happens every show! LOL!
I am aware and this is my favorite ting they do!! I adore the attempt and fun they have. This is what separates them from the rest, they are not a copy and paste band, they are performers and loved doing it.

I love the hand off from after the drum solo to the guitar solo. Such a great arrangement and transparent switch. One solo to another. Then the great breakdown back to vocals

For me this song is still something like the unofficial anthem and was the show closer of these ladies a few times. No matter what video you watch for this song, fancam or official footage, it's the song where they just show the most how much fun they have being on stage. Yeah she is impossible not to hear and she compliments Akane so well. Those two really deliver the music of this band.

When Miku formed the band she did not play guitar. Kanami (lead guitar) is her Sensei. Also, 4:52 you said "They allowed her to take lead". You try telling the pigeon no! PO!

It looks like you are at the Maidiac stage where every new song is your favorite BM song😆 They are phenomenal musicians with excellent material and outstanding stage presence. Akane says that she has a small kit because she wants to be able to see the audience. One suggestion for you channel is to make a Band Maid playlist so we will know what to suggest for you. This is pre-pandemic. Akane used the time in isolation to level up. You can her the "new! Akane on any song from the "Unseen World" album and even more on the "Unleashed" EP.

It took me this many Band-Maid reactions to notice the Packers helmet. I’m a blind fool.😂 Anyway, I always like to say this song is Japanese ABBA meets KISS with ten times the talent. To me this is a 70’s arena rock song that is totally elevated in a live setting to the point it makes the studio track obsolete (studio track also lacks the extended drum solo). Good news is this is a staple of nearly every live show of theirs. They need a live album, that much is clear.
LOL, I mean its small and hidden, but yes there are nuggets and easter eggs hidden behind me in various spots. I just wish I had a sharper camera so my backdrop wasn't so blurry. Some day.I would love a live album, but for now, Im perfectly good with these Videos!
Akane the Happiest drummer on the planet , now you know why , Jimmy Paige of Led Zeppelin wanted to me Akane backstage after one of there concerts , there's a pic of them meeting on the internet , when Akane was told Jimmy Paige wanted to meet her , she thought it was a prank , also don't believe what other people say , that Jimmy Paige told Akane she was the reincarnation of John Bonham , Jimmy Paige never talked about the meeting n Akane only said he liked her drumming and gave her words of encouragement .
Then I am the happiest listener! I heard about the Jimmy Paige meeting. She has something special, that much is for sure!
