    Confirming that this fix works. My car is lowered on M Performance HAS and the clicking sound started immediately after install. Disassembly of the bolt and re-torquing to spec did not help. I followed this procedure and it's all quiet now after about 10-15 miles of driving.

    • @weschoy
      @weschoy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Video is still helpful, but my clicking reappeared after a couple of days. I think you're onto something as the anti-sieze does help. After some more forum research, a few F80 Post members did a full disassembly of the strut and strut knuckle. A few people have reported the clicking not coming back. I tried the full disassembly and drove about 300 miles since. It's pretty silent now.

      Looking for option B or maybe just remove the entire bracket. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Maybe Tommy can help with some insight if there is a plan B

    @Tommy L Garage you should not be putting anti seize on bolts that are torque to spec EVER. Anti seize introduces a lot of lubrication to the threads which then reduces the natural friction the nut and bolts have which the torque spec is calibrated to. By adding this lubrication you are increasing the axial load on the bolt SIGNIFICANTLY which can take the bolt much closer to its failure point. Add to that aggressive/track driving and you can have premature failure.
    Please inform your viewers that they must not get anti seize on the threads, keep it to the mating faces ONLY.

    Mine does this and I got told off bmw that every bolt they undo on the suspension they replace with brand new ones. Mines been lowered on eibach springs before I bought it so bolts probably not been changed. They had a special notice on this noise and I had to buy £160 of suspension bolts for both sides. Also got all the torque settings for every bolt. This will be a winter job when I take it off the road. Don’t shoot the messenger on this it’s what I got told by bmw and they are aware of it and apparently every bolt gets replaced. Worth the £160 to get rid of the embarrassing noise.

I’ve carried this out yesterday and it’s fixed the noise. But just wondering when you unscrew the pinch bolt, can this move and throw off the alignment from the suspension possibly? • @TommyLGarage

    Did you ever get any clicking while
    Rolling? I have the same apex wheels and I’m told by some it could be the wheels themselves. Basically it sounds like a bad wheel bearing, very pattern oriented click, 2 clicks then 1. While rolling, frequency changes with speed and what not. Doesn’t happen when you have the car on a lift and spin tire though, even with pressure on the whole system trying to mimick suspension compression.
    Drivers side, when i turn left and take the weight off that side, sound stops until it balances back out. You’d think wheel bearing but I’ve already had that replaced. Was just curious if you had any of that issue

      @@TommyLGarage Found the problem - it's related to the metal interaction between the wheel bearing flange and the lightweight rotor hat. BMW has a SIB (SIB 34 05 17) on this and the fix is a friction ring (very thin spacer). Although, I didn't go this route. Instead, I installed 5mm Apex spacers as I wanted the wheels a little more flush, and once I did this the clicking/ticking stopped. If ever returns, I'll buy the friction rings from BMW.
